[Q] Is there Black Crush issue in Note 2? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

OK, I saw a thread that was closed so I'm creating a new one.
For starters, I have a the original AT&T Galaxy Note. And yes, I have this black crush issue and a friend of mine has this too. I still have this issue until today even after testing so many roms/changing settings still nothing .. btw but thats fine - i got over it.
However, my wife wants to buy the Galaxy Note 2 and I am just wondering if you guys experience this issue as well in the new Note 2?
For your reference, here is a video of the black crush and it was widely reported on the Note 1.

The Galaxy Note 2 screen is amazing. No black crush, no smudges or lines, no uneven lighting. Almost all of the problems the first note's screen had are gone.

Good to know .. now .. problem is where do we find stock?!
Lol .. AT&T .. Best Buy .. are all out of stock today.
A lot of people are asking when I was there .. damn .. this phone is just popular.

[Q] question about the screen display

I just returned my TMO SGSII today because of all the vertical lines / blobs on the screen when low light or grey backgrounds.
it was very, very, disturbing to my eyes when i'm using the phone at night.
I've gone through 10+ replacements, with all different manufacturing dates on the box.
every single one of them had lines.
ppl in TMO SGSII forum says that its problem with the driver not working so well with the chip (or something)
i called samsung and talked to executive representative, asking if the phone is going to have any software update any time soon (not that it's really going to fix the problem )
they said since the phone is new, there are no planned updates so far.
so i just gave up and i'm back with my old captivate on tmo network with only edge speed..
i wouldn't want to pay more than half a thousand dollars and get a defect phone (it's defect at least to me)
the display is what i mostly look into when i'm trying to buy a phone.
anyways,
do you guys think there will be any possibility that GN would have problems regarding screen display like TMO SGSII?
(fact that GN is not using exynos? - if it really matters)
sorry for the nooby question
thx in advance.
There is no real noob questions when it comes to this device... We hardly know about it!
I think it will be a perfect screen, no lines, samsung takes a lot of pride in this screen I highly doubt something like lines in the screen will show up an issue with this phone.
Side note...so did t mobile give you a refund for your sgs2 our anything?
I am my mom's "little elitest"
Deal with it!
well, i paid $550 at first,
and i got all of it back in cash.
i don't know if you are supposed to get everything back, but if not, it's because i know the owner of my tmo local store so well. my girlfriend's dad runs that place.
i got my my hands on TMO SGSII on Oct. 7th or 8th, not even an hour after the phone got shipped to the store for the first time.
plus, i get lot of things for free. screen protectors, cases, etc. lol
anyway, thx for the answer. u have my thanks
it's good to know that it'll have perfect screen.
i hope tmo really gets this phone soon, cuz i have 10GB plan, but i'm stuck with EDGE!!!!!!
That's terrible! Edge must be killing you! Well I think we ask wish t mobile gets this soon.
I plan to get the lte version on verizon actually
I am my mom's "little elitest"
Deal with it!
good for you
i'm better off with TMO network.. verizon somehow doesn't work well in my area..
i usually got 12+ Mbps with TMO SGSII when i had it.

I don't think you'll have any problems with the screen of the NG. The SGS II had really bad colours because of Mdnie or so. Can't remember how it's called. When you flash CM7 on to the SGS II you won't experience this lines etc. because they don't include the drivers like Samsung does.

i see. not only the vertical lines, some pictures would get blurred a lot. like stock blue wallpaper on TMO SGSII.
but CM7 is not out for the TMO SGSII right?
not sure if this is what you were looking for, but Androidcentral just did some super macro up close shots of the Galaxy Note's screen (which is just about the exact same as the screen on the GN, but lower pixel density).
http://www.androidcentral.com/close-and-personal-hd-super-amoled
These pictures make the screen look suuuuper crisp. Hope this helps.

Sry can't help you with the TMO version had the GSM international one.
Ah and I forgot something. Mdnie (or so) is a "feature" from Samsung to provide natural colours so it shouldn't be included in any AOSP ROM.

Thinking about buying this phone, is it worth it?

I have the s2. Ever since the s3 came out I've been thinking about getting it. But I wanted to wait a little to see what defects or problems it may have! On the s2 we have something called called reduction. If some of you are familiar with the s2 when we flash port roms it gives us bad call quality like the other user you're talking to can hear an echo.
some CM9/cm10 roms including the Miui rom have it too. not the echo but the water weird sound. And sometimes on stock roms.
That is an defect from samsung but I dont want to go throu that again.
Is there any defects or problems I should be aware of? and how you Like your phone?
something I noticed first xda combine all the carriers s3 on one thread and now their separated again!!
does it mean that roms arent compatible with? different hardware?
and the note2 is fixing to come out. whats your thoughts on that?
thanks in advance
THATS A NO BRAINER it blows away the iphone 5 badly
He never said anything about an iPhone 5.
To be honest, the only 'bug' I've noticed is the phone gets hot, but that's to be expected.
Get this phone, you'll love it. The Note is nice and all, but it's more on the tablet size in my opinion. /:
Way too big.
CM10 has a few bugs, but they'll get ironed out eventually.
Another one of these threads already?? The iPhone 5 is so much better please get that.

This same question was asked 6 hours earlier.. Scroll down like 4 threads.
There must be a misunderstanding. I am not comparing it to the iPhone 5!!! I know this phone is way better than that. If you read my thread. I am concern that this phone may have some manufacturer defect!
when the Vibrant came out, it have GPS issues! Now I have the galaxy s2, (not iPhone lol) and it have issues because the way samsung build the phone with noise reduction. which means that the person you are talking to, hears you like you where underwater, and sometimes they hear an echo of them self.
specially on custom roms. like Miui, jellybean, CM. due to drivers. now I really want this phone Im not comparing it to no other phone, I just wanna know if there are issues like i am having with the s2.
thank you guys. I this is one heck of a phone. So what about the roms? are they compatible from the others carries?
Looks like people read the title without reading any details, the man never said anything about an iPhone. Bottom line, if you don't mind the semi-tablet sized phone, then get the Note 2. If you want something smaller, get this. Nothing out of the ordinary with this phone. You're good to go.
Things that might be of concern hardware wise that aren't necessarily obvious:
- The display is pretty crappy. It's sharp, but the contrast and colors are extremely exaggerated.
- When the screen is set to it's dimmest setting and you're in a very dark environment, you may see a dozen or so little dark specs in the darker pixel areas on the screen. These are at random spots but seem to be present on every handset to some degree.
- Problems mounting the phone via USB on a Mac...been just using air droid or removing my MSD card.
- The home button is too narrow for most people's thumbs - GET A CASE
If you're coming from another Android device it's pretty much a no brainer..unless you're holding out for a Note 2 or the next Nexus phone....not sure what else one would consider?

[Q] Question for current Galaxy Note 2 owners..

Thinking of getting a Note 2 here in Dubai, just a quick question for people who have a Note 2 or Note 1.. do you get used to the huge size? How long did it take you to stop thinking "damn, that phone is big!" I've played around with the Note 2 and love the screen but have trouble imagining myself using it everyday, but I'm hoping it could grow on me (pun intended)
I'm coming from the Galaxy Nexus if that helps, anyone else made the same transition?
I used Galaxy S1>Galaxy S2>Galaxy s3 and Now Note 2. 5.5 is not a very huge design. Honestly it fits perfectly in my hand and pocket just like Galaxy s3. I can easily operate it with my 1 hand too and my hands are NORMAL. Even if you have small hands or small pockets, you will get used to it within a couple of days. Grab it man , its just Awesomeeee
Have come from a G2, which is way smaller but haven't found it too hard to switch. Have to use two hands for browsing and stuff but it's worth it for the media experience.
If you use your phone mainly as a phone, the Note isn't for you. If you use it more for Internet and media, go for it. You won't regret.

I too am coming from a GNexus and the GN2, to me, feels better in my hand. This is gonna sound funny but I used the GNexus for about a year and it progressively felt like it was too small. haha! I prefer texting and writing emails with both hands so the GN2 obviously gives me more real estate to make that more comfortable for me.
The problem I have now is deciding what I want to read my books and Flipboard articles with...my N7 or my GN2...
Damn I hate you guys! You just made me order a Note 2 32GB which is arriving tonight Now I have to get my SIM cut quickly!
EDIT: Spoke too soon.. they're "out of stock" on the 32GB, got the 16GB instead+ 64GB MicroSD
It is more of a question of 'how did i ever use something so small?' when you pick up your old phone after using the note for a week.
from a galaxy far far away....

This!
coming from iPhone 4 it took me all of 1 day.. actually more like 8 hrs or so to start wondering why other phones are so small...
it really surprised me a ton as I was dead set on getting the 2gb s3 lte but changed to note 2 at last second at the store counter ... I was pretty much sure I won't get used to the huge size but subtle changes in dimension from note 1 to 2 made a world's difference in handling...

When I was using my GNexus for months people were asking how I could possibly like using a phone so huge. Most of them are iPhone users minus a few that have seen the light that is Android. I seriously don't know how people can be very productive with anything smaller than 4.7" screen. Blows my mind now

Not long at all. I always wanted a bigger phone, and most importantly - I realized right away that I shouldn't bother trying to use it one handed.

Now that I got the phone, I wholeheartedly agree with every one of your comments
This screen alone is worth the purchase, let alone the beastly specs and monster battery! Thank you all for convincing me.

Too big? Nope nope nope. Got used to it immediately, mainly because it looked soooo much bigger in all the videos i watched.
Once i actually saw the box it came in i was like, wow! Thats perfect. So watch all the videos you can BEFORE and it won't seem too big at all...problem solved : )
I love this phone sooooooo much, it has inspired me to invent a new word: This phone is, "unputdownable.".. get Webster's on the line...lol
Not big. At all.
GNexus feels now like smth way to small.
Only one thing that annoys me, that battery cover is kinda slippery.

Who's upgraded from Note 3?

Hi Guys
I know a couple of members have upgraded from the Note 3 but I'm still undecided.
I've become a little bored of the Note now because I've had it since launch but I'm a big fan of carrying spare batteries and the screen size.
Those of you that's upgraded, are you missing anything from the Note? I'm going away on holiday soon and I won't have a tablet so will the M8 suffice to watch a few quick movies etc?
Thanks!

Pink tint

Okay so after using my phone for some time I noticed that I've been having a gradual pinkish gradient on the left side of the screen that slowly creeps to the right. At first I was like, nah it's not me even family was like "I don't see anything." Two people I know while getting my haircut looked at at the screen without me saying anything and asked "is it supposed to be slightly pinker on the left?" I was like "I knew it wasn't me."
Needless to say, I know this is possible with amoled, but how often can you get a uniform screen?
On my s6, it took me 6 returns to get an "acceptable" phone. When i upgraded to a note5 i got a flawless perfect screen the first try.
Now im scared to upgrade....
Btw all my phones were from vietnam. 4 of my friends all haelve korean samsungs and they lucked out with all good screens the first time.

Know exactly what you mean.
Why do we have to play the screen lottery with these new phones?
Back when I had my S2, ended up returning it 3x to get a good screen.
My G2 took 4 returns for various reasons and my recent G3 screen went on the fritz within the first 6 months.
Now I have one with a perfect screen I'm selling bc of the Note 4 only to received a Note 4 with screen tint...sigh

Got the same exact problem. I want to get it replaced it as well. Is it at their own discretion? Can they refuse to change the device? Is the replacement a new device or refurbished? I've bought my device from UAE what about you'llhttps://s17.postimg.org/kzxexdv33/photo_2016_08_29_20_30_35.jpg

They can refuse to exchange it if its passed the return period. They can even refuse during, but then I just threaton to return it outright.
After the return period, its up to them, some may exchange or give you a loaner and send it out to Samsung to look at.
