Hi,
Due to annoying low memory issue of the Stock ROM, I am planning to update my desire to custom ROM, and thinking to put a JB rom. So far I have searched and looked through CM10 JB and AOKP JB. can someone point out what is the difference between these two and also if there is any other suggestions for the best stable JB rom that I can install as my first custom ROM.
Also i hope these roms support using the SD-ext / SD card to profile large memory size for installing applications, so I don't run into low memory issues often which is the case now with STOCK ROM.
I've currently rooted the device with CWM recovery, S-ON and stock Hboot .
On sd-card partition, what is the recommended sd-ext size to go for, 1/1.5GB , and why it can't be set to 2G or above, any specific reason. In one of the thread I have read the sd-ext partition size is also linked with internal memory , can someone please explain that.
Thank you for your support.

Those three words don't mingle together.
As you don't seem too tech savvy, and this is your first time with custom rom, I suggest you look further.

Hi,
as far as i know there still not exist a bugfree JB rom for our device [Desire].
You can try a Gb rom. The best one is very relative term. For me the the best one is Cronmod with very good battery life (daily normal use up to 2 days.) huge internal memory (INTEXT+ 1Gb) fast and smoot and so on...
good luck.
Hello!
I use this custom rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441
It's very smooth and looks stable + have built in a2sd script + very good support + up do date!
Try it if you want!
You'll be a little disappointed, because JB ROMs tend to be as large as stock HTC Sense, and you will run into space issues even when using some apps-to-sdext scheme.
the only stable JB rom is qiss me rom : http://tw.qiss.mobi/download_software.php?mod=en
others have stability issues mainly with camera and video and not very stable to be used as daily rom
MIUI JB
I can recommend MIUI JB: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1850436
On storage: several apps installed (no games) and 150 MB free (out of 500). 2.91 GB free on USB storage. With A2SD storage should not be an issue.
Very stable and fast (certainly compared to ICS). I don't install Facebook as it seems to slow down all the other apps. Therefore I have installed Facebook Lite, loads very quickly!
I have an issue with mobile data (to be clear: not WiFi) but this can be due to my provider (Belgium).

Im currently using cyanogenmod 6.1.1 on my touch, which is amazing...but i really like to use sense based roms.. i tried CR_Mod_2.13.531.1 OTA and did darktremor app2sd but i only got 60mb free, but the phone was very laggy ..i dont need ant t-mobile apps, coz i use an unlocked phone..which sense rom is recommended among these
-GratiousSlide 1.0
-3rdSense 0.60
-CR_Mod_2.13.531.1 OTA
-HaXspresso 2.2.1..
i would like to use the rom with more free internal memory..
Please advice me on this..thank u..
It sounds like you have a slow or low quality sd card if for any reason darktremor lagged your phone. The best option for you would be to S-OFF your phone and follow the instructions for creating custom MTD partitions. There is step by step instructions in a thread by HebrewToYou in the dev section.

you should try the rc1 cm7 from cyanogenmod...haxspresso and cr mod have only about 70.mb of internal memory for your apps, gratiouslide i dont know and 3rd sense i heard its good.
Ive been using the GratiousSlide rom with apps2sd and it works like a charm. Ive got a lot of apps the need to be on the internal memory and only have about 30mb left on it and it still runs perfect. Definitely one of the best roms out there. Only thing ive noticed that doesnt work is the keyboard light, and Swype needs to be reinstalled. Id recommend it to anyone.
Try LegendtoSlide.
Its stable, has HTC Sense and is pretty decent in the speed department.

3rdSense - 1.00 w/ a2sd by DT is an awesome combo.
I have been testing a few gb roms including RCM and reflex. I have found them to be slower when compared to Leedrioid 2.4.1. Are the latest gb roms not quite there yet due to there currently been no official 2.3 ruu?
I have been using InsertCoin since the beginning and it has just gone from strength to strength. Very very fast and faster than Leedroid v2.4.1
Thats one I havent tried, will give it a go.
I'm using LeeDroid 3.0.5 GB and it's freakin' awesome! Built-in task management is such a welcome addition, works really well IMO...
I also used LeeDrOiD v3.0.5. It is really nice. But now i use Redux v1.2 (it is an aosp-gingerbread v2.3.3). It feels so much faster and smoother. Seems to be more stable, too. It does not have Sense, nevertheless i like it much more than leedroid after a short time for adjustment.

insertcoin now is nice for me. v20 that is. tried v17 a week ago maybe and it was laggy at times. v20 is nice
Both Insertcoin and Reflex S roms are very fast and responsive roms. By the way, if you feel comfortable changing your partition tables (really easy with android flasher) You should give the CM7 partion table roms a go, they're even faster than the normal A2SD versions. (Insertcoin and RCMix have this for instance)
Hi, sorry for noob question.. hv never rooted/installed custom roms, but will do that very soon.
What are ext3 and ext4 partitions used for? in tutorials of the dev of InsertCoin seen that only ext4 created (so, why I am confused) & assume ext1 and 2 assigned already to the system, right?

NB: Everything i say here i say under correction.
Ext 3 & 4 are extended file systems, these are needed by ROMS which use A2SD (Apps2SD). These file systems mimic "internal storage" space as when you use a custom ROM that uses A2SD all the apps you install will install to the Ext 3/4 partition. Normally if a ROM says its needs Ext 4 the you need to partition your SD card with a Ext 4 partition or the ROM wont work. Whereas if the sat Ext2/3/4 then you can use either.
Hope this helped

I have decided to go back to 2.4.1, so much faster than the current gb roms, will look at gb when the official software is out and the developers can tweak it.
I tried Redux and Oxygen. Fast gb roms imo.
i like Reflex S v1.9.9
But now Videocamera is still a problem
I had MMS issues on GB roms, despite they are quite fast, they feel too buggy to me, that's why I reflashed a stock Froyo rom (that is bug free)

Hi. Could you pass on a little information to me please? I have Leedroid 2.4.1(Froyo). I'm using A2SD with an ext3 partition. Not using Sense.
Would like to give a Gingerbread ROM a try.
Is there anything I need to do special/different when putting a GB based ROM onto my Desire as oppose to when I've upgraded a Froyo based one?
I'm thinking Radio updates or Nandroid backup or....?
Thanks
miui rocks and now its 2.3.4 check it out miuiandroid .com
Yes i can confirm that, im using cmiui. Its the best miui version. I think its the best because i cant find bugs ^^

20 Seconds to boot from completely off, and insanely fast to use.

Hi all, I have HTC desire and I am constantly running out of internal memory I am going to root the phone to solve this. I am a complete noob to this so which custom ROM would be easy to install and stable out of the following Cyanogenmod7, LeeDroid 3.0.5 or MIUI ROM, Thanks
Id try the cyanogenmod or miui.
Cyanogenmod 7 or Gingervillain plus CMHBOOT(from alpharev.nl) can solve your problem I think
Thanks for replies jroc716 & plohoi. I will have closer lock at the ROMS ye have recommended
all these rom's r running fast and stable. internal-memory problems had gone by integrating ext-partition(s). so which rom u take is just a matter of ur personal favors.
I have had look at the ROMS suggested in this tread and I am going to flash MIUI Rom by xavierjohn22 but not sure which version is most stable. Should I flash the froyo version (2.2) or 2.3.4 gingerbread (latest version) or 2.3 gingerbread. . I be grateful for any help on this, thanks
1st of all you better obtain an SD Card at least Class4 then follow the guide with the link I will give below. This will help you move your applications to SD and have more space.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
And as a ROM Choice, better use InsertCoin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
Thanks alpivelopx for the reply. Ya I have class 4 SD card and I have carefully studied the noob proof guide just can’t make up my mind on which rom to flash.
I likr the look of MIUI have any experience using this rom? Which version is most stable?
I have had a look at InsertCoin and having the new Sense would be cool.
I use google maps a lot and assume this bug “compass doesn't always point north” will be a problem. Is there a stable Froyo version?

At first: One cannot say, which is the best rom. It's a personal feeling. You should read the posts where the authors describe there themes and then you should decide. If you cannot, just try one. If you like it, stay with it.
I think you should install the latest version of MIUI. It's usually the most stable version.
I cannot find a (stable) Froyo version of Insertcoin. Maybe ask the author (baadnewz) if he can upload it for you.
Thanks Matdroid, I think your right. I'll try a few roms and decide which is best for me.
I can recommend Leedroid 2.4.1.
A very good and stable Sense rom with A2SD+!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Like others have said... it's more of a personal opinion with ROMs as to their speed and usefulness but if you can get by with the compass issue until it gets resolved (hopefully shouldn't be too long as devs are working like crazy at porting sense 2.1/3.0 to desire) I warmly recommend InsertCoin.
The chef is pushing updates like there's no tomorrow an also makes time to answer people's questions (how he manages it I don't know...) and also you have all the info you need in the first 2 post of the thread.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
PS: regarding speed, keep in mind that benchmark apps (Quadrant) don't tell the full tale. Try the ROMs for yourself.
I second leedroid 2.4.1..... fast and stable with a2sd+. I wouldn't bother with gingerbread yet still a bit buggy
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
+1 on leedroid 2.4.1
My first not-htc-rom was leedroid v.3.0.5. It was nice. But since a while i use redux v1.2. I like it much more than leedroid, although you have to readjust a little to use a non-sense-rom.
The best froyo sense rom is the InsertCoinHD 2.0.1 Data2Ext.
The best gingerbread rom is InsertCoin v25 CM7.
Keep in mind that Cynogenmod and Miui don't include Htc Sense on it.
I've been using on Leedroid (froyo) for sometime and it was great and stable.
I'm running now Insertcoin v25 (gingerbread) and it's also great. I got 2 issues that I can live with - the compass issue (not pointing north) and the camera makes my phone boot itself sometimes. but other than that it's great.
Both roms have a2sd+, and if you want something stable than I recommend Leedroid 2.4.1. After some time you can get gingerbread roms based on the official release from htc (something like mid-june or a bit later)
Hi
Hmm running out of internal Space *gg*
I Recommend you use InsertCoin, or an ROM Which fits on CM Hboot, Here is the System Partition smaller, difference space is added to userdata, so "more internal" Memory for you.
Pls. Think if you change your SD Card, or crash of it, your OS Cant booting because 1/3 of our System is stored on it. (sdext)
S-Off required.
If you don´t want to manipulate hboot (afraid of crashing bootloader), use any App2SD Rom.
I have many Problems with DATA2SD and DATA2Whatever Scripts.
App2SD is very good.
*I User Insertcoin GS_V26* and i´m happy with it.
Baadnewz is providing these Rom with STock or CM Hboot.
Just Look at a few Roms, (Download 2-3 Roms and test it) an fix install it, which you mostly like. ))

@MindVision1Thanks for the reply. I am right in saying the Hboot resizes the internal memory to allocate different amount of space to the system. You can get different hboot's from http://alpharev.nl/ so I am right in saying the cm hboot you recommend is the Bravo CM7 on alpharev site.
So If I go with the CM Hboot I have to get a custom rom that fits the 130MB system memory and will also have 300MB free for apps on the internal memory.
If some of the rom is on the sd card and I remove it or it gets damaged I will have a major problem?
How do you know what size a ROM is?
My desire is stock with no branding
I am runnig cm7.1 .... I was wondering if some one can tell me which room is the smallest and stable and off course the coolest. I just have 81.17 mg left in my internal memory.. i also have a 32gb sd card ... I love cm7 but i have no idea if there is a better and smaller room out there ...thx for you help....
Somenthig close to ics...lol
Try dGB (just klick on my sig).
For nearly unlimited internal memory use a ROM in combination with DATA2SD / DATA2EXT-script.
I believe you have to decide what you think is cool... Check out what other people choose and their motivations in the other thread... here
Personally I left Sense 3.5 projects and went to stable and fast, and installed AN-Droid 2.1.0 data++, that gave me speed, space and (for me) a bug free ROM.
An attic would be very small and cool. hmmph

small and stable ? well you can go past aosop based roms such as oxygen etc , if you need more space for apps you could use droid zones flashable data2sd script .zip , does the job well and since you have a large sd card it should work well etc ,dont forget to partian your sd before flashing this script .
Thank u . I'll Try it
Go for MIUI rom by XJ. Very fast, great support and stable.
Miui is very different and you would want to test before using it daily... questions about ROM's are awkward because ithere is no best rom, its your opinion..
My 2 cents:
what ROM is the best it's hard to say, because it depends on what are you looking for.
Usually when it comes to HTC Desire we have 3 macro-families of ROMS:
1) AOSP ROMS - Like CM7 or Oxygen, they are based on the STANDARD Android OS, so there is NO SENSE interface. They are usually pretty stable and light, they are very small etc. but only you can say if they are cool
2) Gingerbread - Sense 1.9/2.1 ROMS - These ROMS are somewhat similar to the stock one, with a newer version of Android (2.3.x) and a version of Sense which is close to the stock one. Most of them feature scripts like A2SD+ of Data++ for storing applications on the SD card, so that you won't finish the space too soon as it happens with the stock firmware
3) Sense 3/3.5 or ICS4 - Here we go advanced, Android is usually 2.3.5 and you have a SENSE interface taken from the latest HTC devices, if you want my opinion these ROMs are the coolest, but since they are very different from what was planned for the Desire, you can get many different issues, some programs not working as they are intended to and so on. For sure the overall experience is slower, since the CPU and RAM are downsized for such an interface. ICS ROMS are based on the new Android 4 OS, there's no SENSE interface and they are mostly alpha or beta releases, so if you want something stable you better leave them alone
Here's the link to the desire index thread where you can find all the ROMS for your Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Hope I've been useful
If you enjoy cm7, I have an idea for you to get much more space for apps. First of all download GParted and make two partitions first will be about 30GB fat32 primary partition and second will be 2 GB ext4 (primary ofc). Then go to this thread and flash INT2SD script. After that almost all space from your ext4 partition will be free for apps (ext4 partition is recommended to be 1-2 GB).
So much info thx

My littlest sister just "inherited" a Wildfire S from my mother, who got a new phone.
Now, the stock ROM is completely useless beause of the lack of space. So I have unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM to work some magic on it.
I am considering installing a 2.3.5 Rom with Link2SD. But of course, if an ICS ROM is stable enough (modpunks CM9 seems to be the best?) and is pretty swift, ICS is better than GB.
Some questions though:
1: Is Link2SD a good choice amon the ther A2sd-options like Int2ext4+?
2: Is any of the ICS ROMs (like modpunks) an OK choice for a non technical kid after it's setup? Or if not, what GB ROM should I go for?
I live quite a few hours away, so it should preferably "just work" ones it's set up. Of course, it ill occasionally hang, reboot etc., but the less the better, and she won't be able to do anything techie to fix anything. Fixing permissions nd wiping dalvic cache from recovery is pretty much wht I cn expect to talk her through.
int2ext+ is best... and ICS is stable now... try paranoid android ICS, it is good for daily usage... If your sister found any difficulty using ICS then going for wildchild/hense mod GB roms ...
May I suggest miui or cm alpha 9 only by mod punk. Int2ext+ is a good option as she won't have to go into technicalities. It'll work in background and would be faster than data 2sd.

I use int2ext4+, Thats specially if you have a ext4 partition. There aren't more than int2ext+ version. They are either int2ext, ext(bla bla)...

Thank you very much for your help. It seems to run surprisingly fast with Modpunks CM9 Alpha 9 and int2ext4+, especially after I changed the CPU settings to 768 or something max. Now she's playing some silly game or another, and is indeed very happy with her "new" phone. Now her parents will be afraid of what and who she'll be texting on kik or whatever with her smatphone, but with no credit card connected and mobile data turned of, at least she'll not ruin them.
