T-Mobile Roms - Compatible? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am waiting for my Note 2 but am curious about something - I currently have a Galaxy SIII and some t-Mobile ROMS are compatible with my phone - work very well actualy (Frosty JB is one example) Does anyone know if this is the same for the Note 2? Are the ATT Note 2 phones similar enough to the TMobile ones that TMobile roms will be able to work with little or no modifications?

Frosty ?
That's too bad - I am not a dev - but it seems to me that if those two things are the only things that don't work, it wouldn't be that difficult (for someone who knows what they are doing) to port it over to ATT?
I wonder if we could talk the Dev who developed FROSTY for TMOBILE to port it ? I'd be willing to give a decent donation to him - maybe I will try to bribe him -

Lol. Bribe tends to work. Best usually are pledges for donation. I for one would like to donate pledge to devs who make porting ROMS from the international version to the rest of us poor folks. Love to finally have a TW based MIUI again. Only seem to happen on international so far. I am no dev either but it doesn't seem impossible from what I have seen so far from "simple" folks like us trying to run different version note 2 ROMs on their devices. But then again sometimes things are harder then they seem. I just like to push for a dev jont effort on this to which I would love to give my pledge.

I remember when I had my fascinate we had to flash our original modems to be able to use custom roms, maybe its similar to that?

Mostly that and the types of radios that are used.
No different CPUs or a materials or something? I'm trying to flash a ROM made for ATT S3 for a Sprint S3, will it work?
No. You'll end up unnecessarily upsetting the network with incorrect requests.

It would need some porting to get your data to work. Pretty much it. And removal of AT&T apps. Just like CNexus said above.

Define "easy".
It all depends on the ROM and your background knowledge with ROMs. Some ROMs I find easy to port while others keep me scratching my head for days. All depends.

Yea, I'm completely new to all this stuff. I'm getting my S3 on Thursday, so I'll have to see. I personally hate Samsung's UI because it feels all laggy and just overall hate it. I'm looking for ROMs to put in, was looking at that supernexus 3.0 that is made for I9300. Could I use that on my sprint phone?

Unless you properly port it, then no. You'll end up making your phone a expensive paper weight.

You can just download the sprint version over in SPRINT GALAXY S3 ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT. sorry for caps, only doing it to make it clear so no one bricks theirs. Wait till he has a booting one though.
Porting from US S3's are a lot easier than from international version.

The correct answer is NO you may not use the Supernexus Rom made for the I9300. Unless you want to throw that phone right in the garbage.
Now you can use the Supernexus Rom made for the (d2spr) SPH-L710 which is the Sprint version. Found in the Sprint Galaxy S3 Development section here on XDA.
There is no reason you should even be looking in other phone forums other than the one specific to your device.
Have a great day!

I'm relatively new to the rooting scene, about a month, but I've learned a lot and am having a blast getting the most out of my SGH-T889. So far, after having test driven Slim Rom, several Jedi roms, Carbon, Pac Man and several others, I've settled on Jedi X20 as my favorite overall rom due to the fact that I love multi-window and installing to sd card. I like the battery efficiency, smooth look and floating notifications of KitKat though and would love to have some of the Note 3 features available.
Can you give any tips for making it a smoother experience if I want to try what you guys are suggesting? Specific apks/flashes to look for for modem /apn/feature downloads/links? I'm not afraid of reading and teaching myself, but some help in cutting down the searching time would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!! :good:

Jedi Roms were my go to rom for a very long time. Try a custom kernel. Below link is in the Note 2 7105 model. Try Agni kernel, there is a jellybean and a kitkat kernel. Do not flash anything for the "Note 2 N7100" is if for Non-LTE phones. Only flash zips for the N7105 the LTE version.
This can give you 20+ hours of battery life on jellybean. I using it on Kitkat now and its awseome.
Cheers.

Thanks for the help guys. Rooting is the Shiznit! Can't wait to try Android L when it lands, but have a feeling I'll end up coming back to ezKat. I'll just make a full backup first so I can easily restore if I wish. Easy peasy!

Does ezKat support wifi calling for t-mobile? I'm looking for a ROM that can support multi-window and wifi calling. I was leaning toward the Jedi Master but have seen these threads about N3 features and some look really nice. I don't use ezkat but i dont think it supports wifi calling that tmobile offers. But, now that google hangouts allows calling within the app, you can make calls using your gvoice number direct from the app as long as you are connected to the internet. It's the same as wifi calling except that you will be using your gvoice number instead of your t-mobile number.

So...
I re-joined under a new login due to problems with the space in my previous screen name, but I digress...
Soooo... EzKat was the first "Note 3" rom I tried for the Note 2 and it was awesome to basically have a Note 3 in a Note 2 for a while. But.... after having test driven EzKAt for a while, I found it to have some issues. First of all, it was kind of quiet, so it could be hard to hear other people and the camera wasn't great - in fact, it kind of sucked. The home button didn't function correctly, it would give an error, that "this function is not installed" or something like that - I don't recall the exact wording right now, but you get the gist. And lastly, it was not super stable - I would have to reboot the phone at least once a day.
So, after a month or so, I took the advice of others and started looking for 7105 roms. I found reviews of the DN3 (Ditto Note 3) and I downloaded it. Unfortunately there was mixed information about whether 7105 roms actually worked on the SGH-T889 (TMOBILE NOTE2). So I was skeptical about trying it. Eventually I decided to try it out. The first time I tried flashing it, it failed with an error, and I was like, "well, that sucked" guess they were wrong, 7105 roms DON'T work with this!" and I installed a CM11 rom instead.
After driving that for a month and doing some more reading, I finally decided that I must have done something wrong because it seemed that at least a COUPLE people had successfully managed to get 7105 roms running on the TMOBILE Note 2. So, I redownloaded the Ditto Note 3 rom, recopied it to my phone, recopied the old Modem - "T889UVUCMK7_Modem-Dec_9_13" and my favorite kernel "PSN_AGNi_pureSTOCK-v4.2.5_N7105_4.4.2_AROMA-signed"
I flashed the rom - successfully - without rebooting, flashed the modem. Then rebooted, just long enough to make sure WIFI was working - rebooted into recovery and flashed kernel.
That was two weeks ago. Since then I've not had to reboot the phone one time. It is ROCK solid stable. Loud and clear. Camera is FANTASTIC!!! Action shots of my kid skateboarding are crystal clear and in focus every time!! One of my favorite things is, because its an an international rom for the 7105 - the Google chick is this hot sounding British babe!! I love it every morning when she tells me the weather! LoL!! But seriously, I am really really happy with the Ditto 3 rom. So, now I know for sure, 7105 roms (at least this one!) DO actually work on the SGH-T889.
So, I hope this helps someone else out that was as confused as I was. Good luck everyone!! :good:

Any love for KK kernels?
I figured I would try asking here since it is sort of relevant.
Besides the AGNi kernel, I have not been able to find other KK kernels that work with our T889s. I don't know if it is the kernel itself or a setting but there is a glitch when listening to music that causes a high pitch screeching sound to cut out the music.

Cant a Dev Mod a Kitkat Port to Allow Wifi Calling?

Many S3 users are complaining that tmobile hasnt released kitkat for the S3 while all the other carriers have. I'm one of those complainers. But why cant a dev just take a Sprint kitkat rom and mod it to allow wifi calling for the tmobile S3? Shouldnt that be easy to do?
If it was easy it would've been done already

no, WiFi calling has NEVER been ported. So the only ROMs that will have WiFi calling on them are ROMs based on a T-Mobile OS that included WiFi calling. Since every KK ROM on TMO is a port, the OS it NEEDS to be based on technically doesn't exist.

I have not. I don't have TMO (yet. Got grandfathered data on VZW which is nice. But TMO is cheaper, has perfect coverage in my area, and 3x LTE speeds. So probably gonna switch and sell my grandfathered plan AoL. First gonna try to get my number. I heard there's a way to do it with Google Voice, but that's a different topic. I just follow the VoIP developments to see how it goes. IMO every carrier should offer it. I'd love to see some ROM team geniuses get it figured out

Yeah I agree. This is the reason why I'm thinking of getting a Note 3 and selling my S3. Its just weird that tmobile wont release kitkat for the S3. Good luck with selling that grandpa plan. I know how its like being grandfathered into a plan. I was there too.
Just so you guys know, other carriers may soon get the hint and follow T-Mobiles lead on wifi calling. Sprint apparently is just now beginning to introduce it on their networks. From what I hear, its very restricted though, and is nowhere near as good as T-Mobile, but its a start!
Don't hold your breath for finding a way to port it into non Tmobile roms though. The work involved in modding many different parts of the o/s is probably much greater than anyone realizes, and without the full source code is next to impossible. It would require modding of system apps, frameworks, libs, drivers and modules, as well as the base firmware itself, most notably, the modem.

Really? Its good to hear that Sprint is including wifi calling. But I feel that the S3 wont get it in future releases based on what I read that kitkat is the last Android version for it. If by chance its included in a future release, it'll be months before it comes out. By then I'd have sold my S3.
Regarding the hard work that goes into modding a rom, I'm glad you explained it in detail. That opens up my eyes about how hard it is for a dev to invest his time and energy in modding a rom just right. I didnt know before how difficult it was. Many times we end users take devs for granted not knowing the sheer sacrifice you guys make to make us all happy. We look at you guys as wizards instead of human beings and expect you to give us what we want at the drop of a hat as if by magic, not appreciating your hard labor. For that I thank you Doc. Talk to you again.
Glad I could help!
Unless im mistaken, Sprint will be introducing their wifi calling with the S5/Note4. Not sure if the S4 will see it, bit you're right about kk being the last update for the S3.
As I understand it, they've still got a ways to go to make it as good as T-Mobiles offering, but it'll be better than not having it all!

Moving from At&t to Sprint

Hey Guys,
I'm moving from an HTC M7 on At&t to the Note 4 on Sprint.
I have been with At&t for 10 years and modding/flashing ROMs for about 4 years. For the last few phones I had, since they were GSM phones, ROMs were fairly universal and could be used cross-carrier to some extent.
Since Sprint is CDMA, is this different? Will a universal ROM work or does it have to be Sprint specific?
Sorry if this question is covered elsewhere. I was just curious.
Thanks,
Ryan

If you're going to a Note 4, there probably won't be any issue. Samsung phones on Sprint almost always have unlocked bootloaders, and the Note 4 is no exception. So because of that, there should be ROMs available for it. Maybe not right away as the phone is brand new, but eventually you'll get there.

So even if you decide you dont like sprint, you can take your phone with you to any carrier you want, doing this with the note 4 ,YMMV!

If I understand your question correctly, no the ROMs for the sprint will be specific to Sprint. You won't be able to use ROM designed for Verizon (CDMA) or AT&T(GSM). Doing so, you run a risk of bricking your phone. It has something to do with kernels I believe.
With that said, most ROMs do get tweaked to be used on Sprint the variant.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I needed. With my M7, there were some Roms that were universal for all GSM varieties, and I wasn't sure how that would work with Sprint.
Since this is my first Samsung phone, I'm curious what developers will come up with as far as touch wiz goes. Would love to see a more vanilla ROM with optional touch wiz features such as multi window and use of the pen.

They come up with all kinds of stuff. You may want to look in to installing Xpose framework and add modules. It may just give the extra pizzazz you're wanting to add.
Obviously, you're going to wait a bit before any ASOP are released. TouchWiz, I would guess, won't be as long as a wait. I would expect the first would be more themed with build in hacks such as Hotspot and 4-option power menu.

Help an old hacker out...Which ROM ???

I've been out of the game for a while. Saw the GNote 5, and wondered.."Hmmm, guess it's time to root the GNote 2 and look for a ROM" (Because I decided enough is enough with Samsung stickin' the finger to folks taking away uSD support, and they never DID give TMo customers KitKat like they said. So you know what...here's the finger back Samsung).
Rooted my GNote 2...but...what do with it ( it's practically stock, save for Root ).
So...
Q1: What this ROM out there has both WiFi calling and SPen?
Q2: Is it a ROM newer than 4.3?
Anything out there match that criteria, so long as it's 4.4 or later?
I know, I know......noobs and old geezers ( so I'm the latter..sorry ), what can you do?
Any guidance (No, the middle finger is not guidance) would be appreciated.
Q1. Only stock based ROM.
Q2. No, T-Mobile only released up to 4.3.

While the previous reply is correct about there only being a 4.3 official ROM, there are many 4.4 or 4.4.4 ROMs that still have SPen and WiFi calling. Check out the T-Mobile Note 2 Android Development forum, specifically ROMs that say "TW", which is TouchWiz, Samsung's Android skin that includes SPen and other S-stuff, if you didn't already know. ROMs with "TW" or "TouchWiz" in the name should have what you want. One popular example is DittoNote, which effectively replicates the look and feel of newer Notes on a Note 2. The latest that's compatible for T-Mobile Note 2 is DittoNote4, or DN4. You'll find it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-2-tmobile/development/4-4-4-tw-rom1-15-2015-t3021847. Looks like there's a patch involved beyond the initial ROM installation, but it's probably worth the effort; the DittoNote team has always put out quality work.
Hope this helps. Enjoy!
