No different CPUs or a materials or something? I'm trying to flash a ROM made for ATT S3 for a Sprint S3, will it work?
No. You'll end up unnecessarily upsetting the network with incorrect requests.

It would need some porting to get your data to work. Pretty much it. And removal of AT&T apps. Just like CNexus said above.

Define "easy".
It all depends on the ROM and your background knowledge with ROMs. Some ROMs I find easy to port while others keep me scratching my head for days. All depends.

Yea, I'm completely new to all this stuff. I'm getting my S3 on Thursday, so I'll have to see. I personally hate Samsung's UI because it feels all laggy and just overall hate it. I'm looking for ROMs to put in, was looking at that supernexus 3.0 that is made for I9300. Could I use that on my sprint phone?

Unless you properly port it, then no. You'll end up making your phone a expensive paper weight.

You can just download the sprint version over in SPRINT GALAXY S3 ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT. sorry for caps, only doing it to make it clear so no one bricks theirs. Wait till he has a booting one though.
Porting from US S3's are a lot easier than from international version.

The correct answer is NO you may not use the Supernexus Rom made for the I9300. Unless you want to throw that phone right in the garbage.
Now you can use the Supernexus Rom made for the (d2spr) SPH-L710 which is the Sprint version. Found in the Sprint Galaxy S3 Development section here on XDA.
There is no reason you should even be looking in other phone forums other than the one specific to your device.
Have a great day!

Might work pending hardware, not sure if eveything is exactly the same.
OMG this is really what I most care about, I am addicted to CM7 roms and absolutely love them. I expect the original CM7 nighties from GS2 won't work because of radio issues just like the nexus s roms didn't work on nexus s 4g for sprint, but I hope just like from nexus s to nexus s 4g that it will be minor tweaks so that it will be done fairly quickly.

They will not work. They have to be built for this particular device. It needs to have support for Wimax and the Sprint network.
If you want CM on this phone we have to hope a DEV will work on it.

We could set up a donation pool to get Decad3nce an E4GT to work on....
best to just wait and see. CM teams are awesome and normally don't want a donation pool. I bet a very good developer will come around and push CM onto it. It's the first Galaxy SII in the USA...
now if nobody jumps on then we should consider getting a dev a phone.
maybe he'll convince samsung to stop using garbage A2DP drivers....that would be awesome.
I've been using CM exclusively on my EVO since around christmas because the bluetooth audio streaming to my head unit in my car is so horrible. I don't know why he's the only one who's got it right. I plan on getting my GS2 in the next few days, and as much as i'm looking forward to it, I'm NOT looking forward to losing that crystal clear audio that only CM roms seem to provide.
Well no offense but it worked great on my Samsung Epic for Bluetooth streaming. Sorry the Evo didn't. I think that was just rushed BT compilation if CM was the only stable and clear offering. You will be much happier on this phone. Samsung gets the media portions of these phones right. Atleast for me they seem to be great. Though HTC's new Beats partnership could be enticing.

I am interested in the Note II. I currently have a 4S and with the lack of a jailbreak the i5 is not appealing to me... I tried before with the skyrocket but it was such a bad phone that I really hated it and went back to the 4S. I find this phone extremely capable... 4.2 bring certain updates that might mimic lockinfo for iPhone and that is one huge important piece on why I have stayed on the jailbroken 4S.
Any idea on when this update is scheduled to hit? I only recently saw that the 4.1.2 was leaked but it appears is NOT for the 7105.
This phone has a lack of custom Roms as most of them (all) are for the non LTE version.
Really like the DNA, but not available on AT&T and I want an LTE phone.
Thanks

Dont post questions in the dev section!
-No way to know when 4.2 is going to come for Note II. In fact, 4.1.2 official hasn't been out yet, only the leaked unofficial version.
-Some may agree and some may disagree with me, but you really don't need custom roms for this phone. The stock experience is excellent out of the box.
-The DNA does have LTE, but on Verizon.

True... you don't need custom rom with the plethora of stuff for it... just root it and be done... hence why I wanted the 4.2 version for the lockscreen info.

After a long time staying loyal to the Nexus line I just picked up an S3. Main reason was the 44$ price tag and the fact I could stick a 64GB micro SD in here.

If it's CM you're after, that's definitely available for your new phone. The device code you're looking for is d2att, i.e. this is the download page you'd want.
Of course, you might want to root the device first (the most applicable image for your device would probably be the Rogers one), and put a new recovery image on there - I suggest TWRP for that, though if you're used to CWM that's certainly an option as well.
Welcome to the wide world of the S3, and have fun!
If you want AOSP / AOKP get Task650 Roms. Hes has a 100% perfect 4.1.2, and a great stable 4.2.1 ROM out. Check in original android. Been using it for a long long time on both the S3's in our household and everyones super happy. Super fast and no crashes or problems. TW was just too slow.
His Rom's are for AT&T.

Man you guys are all so welcoming with the wonderful links. Thank you so much.
So im surprised no one else has chimmed in as a new fido owner. I must say their cost is a little high for the phone which might be the reason why. 250$ on a 2 year plan for a phone that is free most elsewhere aint cheap. Luckily for me I got a great deal on it (44$ total cost!)
Does anyone have some warranty related info or links they could send me? I have read about an hours worth and cant seem to gather a clear picture. From what I can tell theres are three methods to rooting this device.
Also, any info on what to backup in order not to brick this phone?
This phone is quite a bit more work than the Nexus I had earlier. None the less I am pretty sure ill have tons of fun!

LMAO. Touchwiz is complete garbage and really slows the S3 down. I used it for a couple of weeks and could not stand all the Samsung bloat and the Samsung replacement apps (phone, messaging, etc.).
Wiped it and I'm running CM 10.1 nightly (1/13) and the phone is a beast now. Super fast, with the best possible UI, i.e. the way Android is meant to be!
Yes there are a few bugs but they're nothing major and at this point CM 10.1 is definitely good enough to be a daily driver. DO NOT hesitate to drop TW crap for CM!
Okay so I'm planning on finally upgrading from my Samsung Vibrant(S1) to an S3. I would go to an S4 but it's still a bit too pricey for me. Anyways, I just wanted to know some general tips and such. What is the latest official firmware, some pros and cons of keeping TW, which ROMs should I use, etc. Just any input would be nice! I think I've just about maxed out my Vibrant's potential with it running SlimBean 4.2.2 for the most part, and recently switching over to CyanAOSP. I think it's my phone, but things are still very laggy. So I can't wait for my S3 to come in.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. First time posting.
You will find out quickly that almost everything here is great. Touchwiz isn't bad on this phone and cm 10.1 has almost all the bugs worked out. So all i can say is happy crack flashing.
Honestly, save a lil more and get the S4. Don't upgrade to last yrs model.
Don't get me wrong, the S3 is a major upgrade from the Vibrant, but I feel like if you have an opportunity to upgrade you should get the very best upgrade available.
Just my 2¢.

Thing is, I'm in desperate need for a phone currently. My Vibrant is becoming unusable and it'll take me a while to save more money. I'm only 16, and the only source of money for me is an annual thing, which is doing the traditional Lion Dance every Chinese New Years. So, by next year's event, I'm sure S5 will be coming about and my Vibrant will definitely be dead by then. So I'm gonna go ahead and upgrade to an S3 now. I really need it to talk to my gf too, since we're a state away. Thanks for everyone's input about going to S4 though.

Touchwiz is ok, definitely recommend getting Nova launcher. Rooting is simple, plenty of instructions, follow them and you'll be good.
I definitely don't recommend flashing kernels or roms not meant for t mobile. You don't want to end up with a hard brick phone. Especially your case that you're tight on money. You don't want to pay extra for a repair.
From MY PERSONAL opinion. Wicked v10 and Stockorama are fantastic touchwiz based roms. Solid battery life and super smooth.

So 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 are leaks right now? What would be advantages of staying on 4.1.2 until the official release?
Yeah, I've been using Nova on my Vibrant for who knows how long. I love it.
Thanks to everyone for the info about carrier-specific flashing. I wasn't intending on trying it until I got an answer anyways.
So what kind of advantages would I get from TW roms and AOSP roms? I know the Samsung specific things like multiwindow, but what else? Or is just a matter of preference?

I'm not against rooting, but if you're tight on cash, then maybe you should think twice about it. Accidents can happen, you can accidentally flash the wrong kernel or rom and brick your device. It can be fixed, but it will cost you.

The latest official release was 4.1.2 which came out a few weeks ago. It's major improvement imo was multi window. I didn't care about the other features personally.
If I'm not mistaken all AOSP roms are 4.2.2 based.
Advantages for touchwiz roms is great stability. You shouldn't come across many, if any bugs at all. You will have all the gesture features on touchwiz roms. Palm to screenshot, tap to refresh, smart stay, etc. You will have more camera features. Everything should just work.
AOSP have more customization but you will give up Samsung features, downgraded camera imo, and you will likely come across minor issues. Random reboots, flickering issues, etc.
I'm not saying AOSP roms are bad. The community here is great and for the most part there's always a solution. I'm running an AOSP rom and I haven't had any issues so far.
One thing I'll recommend, don't switch between AOSP and touchwiz roms back and forth. You may experience some issues, best to Odin stock from an AOSP rom then flash a touchwiz rom afterwards. It's not difficult, just a bit time consuming.

Touchwiz isnt horrible, I just don't like it very much. Its stable, but to me its too laggy, that and I can only have 4 rows and columns on the launcher for icons. If you ask me, it wastes screen real estate, but there are alternatives to it.
Overall once you get 4.1.2 running on this phone it becomes very very stable.
If you want another launcher, Nova (Prime version is 4$, Go Launcher Ex, ADW are all fine choices. Just be warned that Touchwiz Widgets (Such as the Touchwiz Calendar, Accuweather) cannot be used with those Launchers. I use Nova Prime (With Teslaunread for unread email and MMS counts), and it is rock solid stable, and also has Project Butter enhancements which just make it so smooth its not even funny.
Granted, there are also replacements for those such as the Weather Channel, Weather Underground, Google Calendar (Which is what I use anyway), and tons more on Google Play
The S3 is a reasonably good phone, and the only phone I would actually ditch it for would be the Galaxy S4: Nexus Edition when it gets released, granted the GS4-N is not LTE compatible, and costs full price (650$ from what I hear), but it will be Pure AOSP.
I like my GS3.
Also dont use the stock music player, believe me, its not that good. Buy/download one of these
Poweramp (4$)
N7Player (also 4$),
Winamp (Free, but has a paid version that removes Ads and unlocks a couple features).
There are many other Music Players. As for Video Players, I use Moboplayer.
Also the i9003 is the international model. No rom for the SGH-T999 will work on the i9003, nor will any rom built for the i9003 work on the SGH-T999. In fact, flashing either of them to the opposite will brick your phone.

I think Purple Ferret meant to say i9300, not i9003.

Throwing in my experience with TouchWiz.
The SGS3 is a pretty solid phone, and some of the TouchWiz stuff can get you quite hooked (personally, I like how you're able to flip through the homescreen until you are back at the beginning, and some nice touches they recently included for their file manager like the helix and roll pin scrolling), but it's mostly a matter of preference.
On the other hand, I started having issues with the stock TouchWiz after almost a year of use. It would randomly restart itself from time to time, then all controls became unresponsive after start-up (volume buttons, home button, touchscreen and the soft buttons); only the power button was working. I only got it working again after I did a clean wipe and restored an older backup. Which then inevitably led me to check out custom ROMs.
I never had an Android phone before this one, but my brother had been tinkering with his Vibrant for years now. He was the one that helped me root my SGS3, and he stated that it's a lot easier to do things now than it was back when he first started since there's an app for just about everything needed. (Just to give you a perspective)
Besides, the instructions around here are pretty easy to follow.
And yeah, if you are going for a T-Mobile SGS3, only look for ROMs compatible with SGH-T999 (T999) for T-Mobile (d2tmo).

Yes exactly, my bad.
Ask your mom or dad or even family members if you can borrow money to buy an S4. I was touching the S4 the other day at Tmobile and it's so fast and smooth makes me wanted it so bad. I think S4 is better than S3. Go for the S4 I would say.
TouchWiz feels too bloaty and laggy for my taste, so I recommend using CM10.1. The smoothness in scrolling and general navigation of the UI are definitely noticeable compared to even the most de-bloated TouchWiz ROM. Just my 2c.
Hey Guys,
I'm moving from an HTC M7 on At&t to the Note 4 on Sprint.
I have been with At&t for 10 years and modding/flashing ROMs for about 4 years. For the last few phones I had, since they were GSM phones, ROMs were fairly universal and could be used cross-carrier to some extent.
Since Sprint is CDMA, is this different? Will a universal ROM work or does it have to be Sprint specific?
Sorry if this question is covered elsewhere. I was just curious.
Thanks,
Ryan

If you're going to a Note 4, there probably won't be any issue. Samsung phones on Sprint almost always have unlocked bootloaders, and the Note 4 is no exception. So because of that, there should be ROMs available for it. Maybe not right away as the phone is brand new, but eventually you'll get there.

Ryan[/QUOThe bootloader isnt something you have to worry about, but if your looking for a device that can be used globally and on all domestic carries, id check out the nexus 6 which is expected to be released within the month. So even if you decide you dont like sprint, you can take your phone with you to any carrier you want, doing this with the note 4 ,YMMV!

If I understand your question correctly, no the ROMs for the sprint will be specific to Sprint. You won't be able to use ROM designed for Verizon (CDMA) or AT&T(GSM). Doing so, you run a risk of bricking your phone. It has something to do with kernels I believe.
With that said, most ROMs do get tweaked to be used on Sprint the variant.

Thanks! That's pretty much what I needed. With my M7, there were some Roms that were universal for all GSM varieties, and I wasn't sure how that would work with Sprint.
Since this is my first Samsung phone, I'm curious what developers will come up with as far as touch wiz goes. Would love to see a more vanilla ROM with optional touch wiz features such as multi window and use of the pen.

They come up with all kinds of stuff. You may want to look in to installing Xpose framework and add modules. It may just give the extra pizzazz you're wanting to add.
Obviously, you're going to wait a bit before any ASOP are released. TouchWiz, I would guess, won't be as long as a wait. I would expect the first would be more themed with build in hacks such as Hotspot and 4-option power menu.
