IRC chat #galaxy-note-2 on freenode.net - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey everyone. I wasn't able to find an irc channel for the galaxy note, so I decided to make one.
I'm going to post this in all of the Galaxy Note 2 sub forums because all our devices are rocking the same hardware more or less so it'll be a nice place for devs to collaborate and for users to do whatever users do.
If you have an IRC client
Just connect to freenode.net, then #galaxy-note-2
If you do NOT have an IRC client
Here's the web interface for webchat on freenode: http://webchat.freenode.net/
Click the link, put in a username, then #galaxy-note-2 in the "Channels" box, fill out the captcha and go.
Hope to see people in there this phone is amazing.

um there is a note channel thread 2 threads from the top lol guess you didnt look to hard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957207

that one is for att, and mine is for all of them.
two different channels with two different functions. if you want to chat only with att people, join the att one. if you want to chat with everyone with a gnote, join this channel.
the thread text is copy/pasted in all 5 of the gnote forums i posted in.

Maybe add this sticky as well? Or to the other post? I had fun making fun of his soon to be dead dogs peanut butter fetish and puke stained carpets.

XDA IRC ? ( #xda-devs @ irc.freenode.net, apparently )

EDIT: bla bla bla, #xda-devs on freenode!
we have a channel
#xda-devs on freenode
cya there!
Does this still work?
All your posts got deleted for being off-topic. SOPA!
Well I expect more activity in the channel than just idling there :\
So there are no hot babes in the channel? Bummer...
Yeah, it's a zombie channel.
Have people moved onto a different channel? I've been here now for the past month idling, and looking at it once in a while, it's unmoderated, and it's mostly used by two users named cerjam and taylee being immature and generally talk about sex-related random ...things. But it sure is populated by idlers.

It's not an official channel and is nothing to do with XDA. Unfortunately there are a lot of immature idiots on the internet these days though.

Ye, but an unmoderated channel doesn't help either as it seems. I don't really care for what protocol people use, but a live chatbox to talk about stuff seems helpful though. But indeed, channels die very quickly. Only channel alive I'm subscribed to is <...>
it's moderated just fine. I've been there for four years. You've been there... ... a month? can't say i've seen you.
So now that XDA has officially taken over XDA-Devs of freenode. When are we getting a webbased chat/link?

If xda-devs account on irc.freenode.net is official then someone should ensure the account is not used to add previously unregistered nicknames to that account for the sole purpose of trolling people on that IRC channel.
It would reflect negatively on the xda-devs if this was the norm and not the exception.
don't come into our channel and tell us what to do. all ive got to say.
Someone has banned *!*@* (non-IRC people, that string means "Ban everyone") and essentially taken over the channel.
What the hell just happened?
for those unfamiliar with the situation:
#xda-devs has been an established freenode channel since 2007, owned and operated by Olipro a well known and one of the most respected windows mobile developers.
I've been a user in the channel for over 3 years now, recently the staff of xda-developers convinced freenode that they are the rightful owners of the channel, who then removed olipro, and was appointed the channel.
We were informed that it was now an official channel, and they were going to run it as how they see fit.
Within the first 24 hours, one regular of 3+ years was banned.
Within the first 7 days, a global ban on the optonline network was established, along with a major japanese network, banning every user on those significant networks from the channel. I know of three people this affected personally, let alone all the users who were unable to join to complain.
Tonight, it appears someone using the alias Flar, which has been an operator in that channel since earlier this week, took control and banned every user.
Now, as many people who have visted the IRC over the years knows, i can be very mouthy and pretty much useless. However, I have been in that channel for 3+ years on a daily basis, and am good friends with more than a few users, I have to say the way this all went down is a complete wreck. Sure, I understand xda staffs arguement. They're entitled to a channel, and as freenode policy states, that is what # is for. However, HOWEVER. There is a very big userbase of this channel, spanning back years. To hijack it with absolutely no regard of the existing people, with people who've never even been in the channel and as what happened tonight shows, inexperienced IRCers, is very out of pocket.
We've created ##xda-devs for stability, and off topic discussion. I'd like to see an end to this drama and e-peen contest as much as the next person, I urge the XDA staff to join us and come to terms.
A word from the staff would be helpful about now.
Well, at least you get points for misrepresenting what happened and being part of the drama you claim to not wanting to be a part of. Not as a moderator, but one person to another, and one I had previously thought to be on friendly terms with, ... what the ****, cerjam.

Same goes for both your posts.
(Why use #gn = because most ppl there will have the Galaxy Nexus and are reading in it's forums.)
My first post is a legitimate question as to why use this specific channel (with the likely small amount of people to respond) while there is global #xda-devs channel (where a fair share of the people actually do have the Galaxy Nexus).
Furthermore, if you think answering a question with "guess" has any place here on XDA-Developers, you might want to reconsider being here.
Thread unpinned.

more people should join the channel. Galaxy Nexus owners unite!
Why would #GN be better than xda-devs?.. Let me illustrate.
topic for xda-devs: Note: This is #xda-devs, the operative word being DEV. not "I'm a spastic who can't even flash a ROM"
..
where as GN is for anything and everything... so if I am a user looking for help, the folks in xda-dev's are not helpful.. If i'm looking for specifically help on a g.n., once again, xda-devs, on the off chance I find someone who is a helpful person, the chances are they will not be helpful with a gn as the phone itself isnt their target audience.
And yes, I realize that this topic is old, but it still deserves love.

An IRC channel for the archos gen9

An IRC Channel for the archos gen9 as user help and dev communication
The IRC channel is named #archosg9-xda and is registered on freenode
you can access it over the freenode webchat HERE
or by typing /join #archosg9-xda in your irc client
Feel free to join anytime you want, speak english, behave well and if you have questions first search at xda before asking in the irc channel
Why an IRC Channel ?
i already had the idea 3 weeks ago but i was on holidays
now i'm back and i want to give the xda gen9 forum an own irc chat
most time questions are posted in a thread, and then the answers, which result sometimes in off-topic posts
through an irc channel the user can help each other like in an instant messanger, so you dont have to refresh the site to see if someone answered
AND this is also a great possibility for developers to share ideas or solutions to various problems
i personally chat with people from the xperia x8 forums, most time with my team, and since i started on irc channels i learned a lot of things
#archos and #openpma on Freenode have existed for years. An Archos employee hangs out in both of them (even when he is on vacation - props), and the other people there know a great deal about omap-based Archos devices, and in general, the Archos way of doing things. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly.
But if we must have a channel just for the g9, #archosg9 has existed since June 22 2012, and I vote for that one, as there's no need to restrict the scope of the channel to xda.
But no matter which channel people want to use, I wish more people interested in g9 development would hop on IRC once in a while.
EDIT: Whoops, I meant #openpma.
I registered archosG9, however I don't really understand freenode

Has anyone been using the Wiki?

Anyone? It is such a great source of knowledge and i believe it has been under utilized for its greatness. I just added Pantech to the list of manufacturers and linked one of the device wiki page I created. If anyone has to add to the Pantech wiki page feel free. Lately, I've been using it to see what devices has custom roms and I have been adding to the device page.
Thanks for your contributions - I think the wiki is a great resource and I wish more people would create pages like yourself.
Actually thank you for creating the wiki. people need to know that we have a wiki and that it is there for people to make changes to it. I would say to post something on the portal that we have a wiki and no one is making any changes to it. Not that many people are subscribed to the youtube channel. Only 96,000 people are subscribed compared to the almost 5 million registered users on XDA.

I wouldn't call the portal Abandoned - also XDATV has a lot of reach.
Let's me rephrase the question - what do you think would a) get more people to contribute to the wiki, and b) get more people to visit the wiki?
We are working on a few things but I'm curious what everyone thinks.

I think what we should do is make it mandatory for all users to visit the wiki at least once to read/post.

As has been mentioned, I think that making a story about it on the portal would definitely get more people to visit the wiki. We can't be sure whether it would make them want to contribute to the wiki though.
I only think the portal would be the best place to advertise it is because all the mods/themes/games etc. which get featured gain great exposure and quick popularity.
Proof of that is all around us. Many a time, a thread has been featured on XDA because it's a "hidden gem" and as soon as it reaches the portal, the thread quickly becomes a forum favourite, by gaining more Thanks, downloads, contributors and, most importantly, exposure to the XDA masses.
I would say to get Adam Outler or Jordan in the next video they make for XDA TV to announce that we have a wiki and please contribute to it. Recently the Pantech Burst has been getting a lot of developer support and i created the device wiki in the first as a go to for very useful information instead of going to multiple websites that has been spread out and people have been going to it. I did juice it up with some very useful information such as a bug list of the recent CM10 rom that is so very close to being a fully complete rom, root methods, the specs, even how much the device is going to cost you. I had help with another person but overall its a complete wiki.

Thanks everyone for your input.

And this is precisely evidence that the Portal isn't "abandoned." In fact, we are actually receiving record numbers visitors per month. Regarding advertising the wiki on the Portal, that would be a great idea. I'll look into this.
