I've been trying out the MIUI 2.10.12 Jelly Bean v2.7 ROM on my HTC Desire, and while I would like to keep it, because I like the instantly applied themes etc., it's proving to be rather buggy on my Desire. I got it to try to solve the problem of running out of internal memory, but despite trying to apply the dt a2sd via terminal emulator app (and adb shell on the PC), as well as moving apps to SD via Titanium/Links2SD, I'm still getting "out of internal storage space" errors every time I turn around.
So my top priority for a Desire ROM is 1) I need for it to emulate internal memory on the SD card (so I can make internal memory larger), or at least take up little space on internal memory, so that it does not run out quicly.
2) Stability. (MIUI keeps randomly rebooting on various occasions, Google Voice/Search does not work, GO keyboard crashes, etc. MIUI is also a bit sluggish in Settings menus).

I have tried the following and by far they seem to be the most stable ones according to their Android version.
For GingerBread : MildWild 5.0
For ICS: sandvold's roms
For JellyBean : JellyNow
For increasing the internal memory, partition your memory card (I tried EXT 3 but my phone got stuck on boot loop, EXT 2 works like a charm for me) then install the ap2sdx script.
Peace,
Ibn Yusuf
If you like miui, go with miui xj rom, if you like sense, go with cooldroid rom.
If you want 100% stable ROM you have to use something like Oxygen ROM. In case you want JB ROM I'm using vijendrahs' CM10 ROM v2.2 and it seems quite stable. But of course there are some issues...

Im using a SCLD GSM Desire rooted. Ive used Gingerbread versions of Oxygen, CM7, and currently on MIUI XJ but all freeze up on me often(almost daily) and battery pulls are required to revive.
The freezes do not happen with my 2GB Samsung SD card that came with the phone, but i have used 3 brand new Sandisk 16GB Class 4 SD cards and it crashes on all. This is regardless of whether i have Apps2SD enabled or not. I have looked for last_kmsg after the crashes on CM7 and Oxygen, but the file is never present after a battery pull, if i reboot normally i will get an old last_kmsg file from a few months back.
Was transferring about a gig of music to my phone currently on MIUI XJ 1.12.2, and after i unmounted USB storage it froze up and crashed.
The SD card im currently using was bought at a Virgin store, so im sure it wouldnt be a fake. I hope someone can help troubleshoot, im completely out of ideas!!
Thanks a tone in advance!

which version of MIUI-XJ ie.. A2SD or XPart or D2W?
You can try the following:
1. take nand backup, titanium backup & miui backup
2. download the full rom
3. full wip/wip cache/wip dalvik
4. flash the rom, if you are using cm7r2 hboot you might have to flash market cache fix.
5. let the rom reboot automatically and then let it settle for 15-20 mins
6. go to super user and make sure you enable ROOT permission ON.
7. power-off and power-on, restore your apps.
Thanks for help, appreciate it. I'm running the apps2sd version. Will flash according the method you have suggested. Since I'm on apps2sd, any reformatting/repartitiin you recommend?
Right now for the 16gb class 4 card I have a 1gb ext3 partition created using gparted.
You partitionend your SD card with an FAT32 partition and an EXT partition. If you partitionend in that order and set both partitions primary, you are ready for A2SD/A2SD+.
But please use "A2SD" if you are talking about the script which moves apps automatically to EXT partition, because with "app2sd" you could also mean the FroYo-App2SD and this would be very confusing.
Thanks for the help guys. I repartitioned and reflashed miui according to the procedures you'll mentioned. So far its been running fine, except that I had to use the terminal to reinstall a2sd yesterday, but still no crashes.
So far I have not put any music on the phone since last time it crashed when I filled up the SD. Now that I'm certain the installation is clean after using it for the past few days, ill go ahead and fill up some muswic tomorrow and will post back here.
So the phone crashes everyday now. Noticeably after I enabled a2sd amd moved dalvik.
Need to perform battery pulls to revive the phone and there is no last_kmsg after a reboot.it really kills me everytime I need to pull out the battery, hopefully someone can help troubleshoot!
I have the same problem. It's do not freeze only with stock hboot
Since I'm rooted on custom rom, any way to use a stock hboot now?
yes, you can use any rom with stock hboot. but you will not have much memory for applications
just checked, im on stock hboot.
do you have any other ideas ?
maybe here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1393132
After failing to get 3 of my 16gb sandisk cards working, I tried my Samsung 2gb that came with the phone. This card is working flawlessly for the past month (or however long its been). I'm using a 512mb partition with apps and cache moved to SD with zipalign running and its never crashed.
Does anyone have any ideas? Can't really load any music into such a small card
I have a similar problem.
My phone crashes every time I browse fast trough my picture gallery (I have a lot of pictures) or I use an app that accesses the SD card continuously for several minutes.
For instance, it happens when I do a batch backup with Titanium Backup for all my applications.
I tried the official ROMs and custom ROMs (Cyanogen, DevNull) but the problem persisted.
I sent the device to HTC and they replaced the mainboard.
I tried then the latest official ROM and I faced the same problem.
I switched again to Cyanogen and the same problem appeared.
I have to mention that all this time I used a 8GB SD card (I tried several different cards with the same result) and no App2SD.
Now I'm using the card delivered by HTC together with the device and the problem is gone.
This card is only 4GB (the brand is Samsung) but it seems to work flawless.
My advise is to try a 4GB card and see if it works.
Is it better to have apps on the SD card or the SD card's second partition that I created, and If I flash a rom will they still be installed if they're in either location? I have the Samsung Extreme Speed Class 10 16GB Micro SDHC card.
Should I use the built-in a2sd or Link2sd, should the second partition be ext 3 or 4 and how should I format it?
I'm using ICS for HTC Desire 0.5.1, default HBoot, Clockworkmod Recovery Touch 5.8.0.2, aGPS and default homescreen with no scripts.
Thanks.
I can recommend to use Stock A2SD with EXT4 (fastest type). Partition size: => 512 MB.
Thanks for your response.
Yep apps on the ext partition. More advantageous. Saves space and doesn't break widgets. Apps are accessible even on USB mode.
Thanks also.
If I make an ext4 partition on my SD card and use the built-in a2sd with ICS for Desire, it will move all apps (including davlik, data and cache) to the second partition with the ability to move them back if needed?
If I flash a rom will they still be installed if they're in either location?
Yes, as far as I know, it moves all apps from your internal data to your ext partition.
a2sd supports moving your apps back, type "a2sd" to get a list of supported commands. The ones you are searching for are propably "a2sd nocachesd", "a2sd nodatasd" or maybe "a2sd noxdata", depending on the option you chose at installation.
If you flash a new rom, it depends on the rom and your installation setup, whether your apps remain or not.
If you flash a rom with the same a2sd script without wiping, your apps should remain. They will be lost in any other case. Always backup to be sure!
I have tried a few times with the A2SD script in (Sandvold's) ICS - but always get problems:
Very slow - at boot-up the "Preparing SD card" takes along time, and also for Apex launcher to internally catalogue the apps before being able to display their icons.
Worse still is downloading from the market, which takes 5x the length of time.
It is true I 'only' have a class 4 sd card - but others have reported this is OK.
I have ordered a class 10 card which will be with me shortly.
The worse problem is the phone keeps prompting me to input my SIM card number, and asking to reboot.
I am on stock HBOOT (but also previously tried cm7r2), I have tried stock and Tiamat kernals, and I have tried all different kinds of a2sd scripts. In some cases I have still run out of space, even though I have 1gb of ext4.
I am currently on Apex launcher, Tiamat kernal - and leaving apps where they are .... but I miss some of my favourites.
This configuration is stable - so I am hoping the new class 10 sd card will do the trick.

Class 10 SD cards are reported to be unstable on the Desire, someone may be lucky with it running properly, but a lot of people have problems; check out the forum.
Thanks for the info. However, I tried it and most apps appear to be on the SD card. I typed a2sd install, y, n, y.
Class 10 card ... my observations

I saw conflicting advice on class 10 cards ... but in any case I took the plunge and ordered one from Amazon - wasn't too expensive .. 11GBP.
I set up the card from scratch via Gparted - wiped the phone and reinstalled Sandvold's 0.5.3 (Tiamat kernal, stock a2sd, Apex launcher ) turned a2sd on via terminal - moving everything ... and reinstalled all apps from the market not from TB.
Result: a very stable phone, nice and quick, no problems with download speed ... so I am pleased as punch.
Hello,
I just installed Evervolv ICS rom on my phone. Things are looking great so far. The speed is more than reasonable and everything seems to be working out of the box. The only problem I noticed is that I started to run out of space on my internal storage and Move to SD card is greyed out for all apps, including the ones I downloaded.
1. do you recommend other better ICS rom for my phone ? From what I've read this is the best.
2. How to enable moving the apps to SD card ?
Thanks all.
I don't recommend ICS at all...

Don't know if that rom uses the same a2sd as many ICS (and GB) roms have built in, but have you tried this in terminal emulator after first boot:
Code:
su
a2sd install
y
n
y
Forgot to mention: you'll need an EXT partition for that.
Hi, I'm new here (less than 10 posts), so I can't post this to the correct thread, but I was wondering how much internal space (device memory) is left after flashing a ROM like Villuminati 4.4.4 or Vanir? I am coming from a GB27 JB ROM and my external SD doesn't work, so I only have the internal SD with the device memory, and I'm not going to flash something that leaves me with little room for apps. I appreciate any feedback.

Go ahead and flash either. I have a spare phone with no external card and I have flashed Liquid Smooth, Villuminati, Revolt, PAC ROM, Dirty Unicorns and Wild for the night with no problems adding apps. Plus I believe the space needed for ROMs have nothing to do with the internal memory. In my opinion Villuminati or Vanir would be the best ones right now. Liquid Smooth is still unable to send MMS other than that, it is a banging ROM. Vanir has the ability to turn off the hardware keys individually as well as a phone proximity setup that switches to speaker if you move the phone from you ear. I would recommend getting an external SD card, but you do not need one to flash a ROM.
Hey, I appreciate it. Ya my external SD doesn't actually work on my phone, I've tried different micro SDs, and tried formatting several different ways, but it keeps giving me prompts saying the card is damaged or unmounted. I will try and flash Vanir later today.:good:
I have tried just about every rom available and other than factory based? I am running the Pacman 4.4 now as it I like it the best and it seems to be the most stable. But since these tablets are stuck with only 16gb internal it goes away very quickly. None of the cm 12+ will do it, just gives me the infernal insufficient storage error.
I have the same issue, I've tried many appointment the apps store but they just don't work.
Try Link2SD app?
Try out the official CM 13 port running on Marshmallow. If you format the microSD as internal storage, you can move your apps there with the certain limitations that comes from it. Read how microSD are treated in Android 6.0
