[Q] What's Your Setup? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I can safely say that with the setup I am running I have had 0 issues (rom, kernel, radio, etc.), the only thing that it is missing is Wi-Fi Calling, but I do not think that has been modified for Jellybean yet...

You were hoping maybe information on XDA could be consolidated and threaded efficiently?
Like maybe...... Every single development thread not containing "how do I flash this?" as every 3rd post?
And someone trying to tell the others what they should or shouldn't write about as every 4th?
Good luck with your goal, brave sir. Many have gone before you and failed, but it is my fervent hope that you will be the one to lead us, and cleanse XDA of needless communication once and for all.

On JB for Unicef v7. (Had this problem on v6 too, never tried v5).

No screen lag.
I don't know if it's placebo, but it feels like switching between tasks is faster with V6.
Speedtest.net results are similar before and after V6, however Chrome browser loads are noticeably faster.
As fas as overall, I'd say the responsiveness and speed difference I feel with V6 is similar to what I felt stepping from AOKP ICS to AOKP JB. Not any huge change, but a sense that you are definitely better off and wouldn't go back.

Can you recommend some roms/kernels?

I just ordered this phone, should be getting it sometime next week. BTW Im coming from the MyTouch 4g slide. If you recommend any roms or kernels please post the link. Thanks.

I recommend AOKP or CM9. Both are AOSP based with AOKP being closer to pure Android 4.0. That said, it helps to just try out what is available and see what works for you.

Is stock ROM official ICS update or GB?
I got this phone 2 months and bounced around between Darkside, stock ICS rooted, and AOKP. I've flashed Eugene's streamlined kernel to AOKP. And I think that's where I'm staying. I love the ui changes and inbuilt cpu control. And with Groove IP I can do without native wifi calling. My advice is to try them each for a few days, even ones I didn't mention like cm9, and decide what fits your needs.

That's because 0623-03 IS Build 39, assuming you are referring to Whitehawkx's AOKP. Hercules is officially supported by Team Kang now, so you can get Build 40 from here:

Kernel overclocking
I'm using Darkside TLLE4.V1 and the 3.0.8-perf-T989DTTLE4-CL579656 kernel. Way good. One question though: I come the cpu is not overclockable over 1.5 ? I thought this kernel was open to overclocking, I would like to boost it up to 1.8. Any ideas?

it looks like there are a bunch of darkside roms/kernels. which one are you using?
This may have been addressed before but for some reason I can not find an answer. I have tried AOKP and CM9 and I am having problems with the external SD card not being recognized by several apps (beyondpod is the main one). There is a setting for using the external only but then most of my games (EA titles) will not open. Is there anything that can be done? I am currently using Chicago rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602332 and it seems to work correctly but I would like to start using the CM9 nightly builds. Thanks in advance.

Smoother w/ the stock kernel compared to what other kernels?
I would like some devs to comment on this just to clear up some issues, but I am reading that these JB kernels are basically just shots in the dark and real improvement over stock cannot occur until JB source is released. I would like to see lively discussion about this, with benchmarks, stability reports, and other comparisons between these kernels and stock.

[Discussion]FrostyJB_4.1.1-X2

This is a discussion thread for views and outtakes on djintrigue808's FrostyJB_4.1.1 experimental versions.
Basic Info
-Based on LI8
-Confirmed compatibility with ktoonsez kernel (10/26 Touchwiz Jellybean B)
-A little faster/smoother than v6
-Possibly less blue flickers
-Battery life not as good as v6
If any of y'all figure out the change log for each build just post it here and I'll update the op.

FrostyJB_4.1.1-X2 released
Changelog:
I just flashed x2 today and so far its running very smooth. Haven't noticed and lag or blue flickering yet. Need some time to report battery life but I have no doubt dj has worked some magic to make battery life amazing just as he did in his regular builds.
P.S. Ktoonsez' latest tw jb kernel that was released today works with this rom as well

I haven't tried all the ROMs, but JB is definitely ready. I would never go back to ICS. I personally like the cm10 based ROMs. GPS is the only buggy feature. JB is so much smoother than ICS, its like a diff OS.

I was on the darkside rome too,the same one. Switched to slim bean rom that has jellybean and enjoying it! You should try it out, also with the kko kernel.
Honestly.. JB is much faster, snappier and smoother. But... if you value battery life, stay on darkside evolution. I would definitely try them out though. Just nandroid back up and try liquid, cm10, or AOKP. All excellent. But like I said, as far as battery life goes, Dark side is still my go to.

If you value battery and responsiveness or stability I'd suggest you stay where your at. I've used all the jelly bean variants for days at a time and they all have presented 1 issue or another. Some would argue there problem free but occasional graphic glitches, ****ty battery, no wifi calling, call echo , gps problems, no flash support, and low speaker volume are some problems I'm willing to bet money you have at least 4 of these issues. Ive just got around to using Evolution 3.8 after hearing rave review and I must say its clearly the best TW rom and possibly the best rom I've ever ran on this phone. If you don't mind cm9 I'd suggest giving the Xperian Rom a go its stupid smooth and unbelievable battery life for a non touch wiz rom. FYI slim bean and liquid smooth rc 7 do kick ass so if do try JB thats where its at.

Hands down Cyanogen Mod 10 Stable.
Made me fall in love with my phone all over again.
I have tried nearly every popular rom for this phone and was getting tired of the glitches, quarks, force closes and other issues associated with them.
Tried CM10 2 months ago and I would never go back.
Jellybean is definitely the best, and CM10 is rock solid, most functional, stable, fast rom I have ever used on any phone.

I'm eager to try one or more of them. Being more of a theorist than an experimentalist , by any chance ... is there anywhere that summarizes/compares them in one place? Especially with some commentary. That would be awesome.
Barring that (or even a thread that goes into a discussion of (some of) the differences), I guess I'll just pull up all the OPs and make a spreadsheet or something. :nerd:

On cm10.1 nightly myself. I like it but it seem to use too much memory. I tried Franco kernel but was not very stable for me. Might try tiny as I see people like it.

People like and dislike all kernels. This thread will give a thousand different answers unfortunately.
Leankernel is good, maybe one of my favorites that I have used. On rootz the community is awesome though its quiet now. I think it's a good choice.

Thanks. Trying it now.
As my sig states, I'm running JellyBro CM10.1 nightlies (I update every week or so) and AK Kernel. I'm currently on AK Diamond v33. So far, it seems that Dynamic FSync is helping performance, though I need to let the phone get some longer uptime to be certain.
I'm currently running Carbon 1.6 with AK's Diamond kernel. Incredibly smooth even while underclocked. Not to mention I generally get pretty darn good battery life with Carbon. Sometimes up to 4.5 hours of screen on time with a 2200mah battery.
Where exactly can I find AK kernel? This is such a nooby question I just can't seem to find it
