Why didn't I try this before! Works great, much better then Samsungs! Thanks man
Try searching the forum for HTC IME mod, imo its the best android keyboard available, made even better by jonas

Even I am looking for a replacement keyboard. The issue with Swype is that the keys are small leading to lots of errors and since my native language is not supported I can't swype all the words.
Samsung is good as far as keys are concerned but only issue with it is that if you have to input numbers or some symbol you have to go to a different screen whereas on other keyboards you can long press a certain key and the corrosponding no or symbol is displayed.
If samsung had that option it would have been great.
I have downloaded smart keyboard and it does look good. Lets try it for sometime and see how it goes.
Tried smart keyboard for a few days and i dont really see any improvements... the "." is just placed to close on the space key
The HTC mod keyboard does not work after an upgrade to froyo. Any way of making that work?

Any keyboard out there with the same layout / distancing as the Iphone keyboard but retains the stock SGS or andriod look... I find texting on an ip3Gs / ip4 about 2x better compared to my SGS.
Swiftkey is the best keyboard I have found by far
Swiftkey looks nice, but it has very limited set of keyboard layouts.
For example, it is very funny that is supports Swedish language prediction, but not the Swedish keyboard layout.
Not very speedy to input Swedish words, when you are missing å, ä and ö keys
I always keep going back to the black droidx keyboard.. love how the keys are alittle bigger

Hi All,
I am using HTC IME Mod ported from HTC bu some XDA developers (not by me) and works great on SGS Froyo.
Just install both .apk files using file manager and then select the HTC Keyboard from the Locale and text...thats it...
Hey Guys opened a thread months ago.. D All Keyboards and so there

Starting to stick to Droid x keypad as well.. Easy for quick typing
All of the keyboards around basically have the same spacing in them.. the distance on the iphone keyboard seems to be perfect.. for about 5 months with the samsung keyboard i still get a lot of typos
I actually use Smart Keyboard Pro and find it great.
Hi
I just bought WS and have a oportunity to try my friends Samsung Galaxy Ace. I can compare just a keyboard and typing on it and I was surprised about speed of Samsung! Reaction time between two different letters is very short to compare with Wildfire S! So when I write faster on WS than in text are missing letters, on Samsung not. Why ?
Does anybody have chance to compare Samsung keyboard with HTC ? just try! is that general different of brand or just model different ?
try on your phone tuch letters "A" and "L" and keept touching and increase speed till you reach border of your keyboard or fingers
Correct result shoul looks like : alalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalal even you write very fast in my case on Smasung it was perfect.
But on WS looks final text in same speed like: aalllalllalalllalalallaaalalalallaalaalll
Is there any way how to increase reaction time on WS? if not than I sell my WS and buy Samsung
and sorry for my english
Tested it on my WFS and I see what your saying.
I use Swype beta for touchscreen input. Its a very fast way of typing when you get used to it
Surely the WS is just too small to type quickly and accurately?
I have installed something called big thumb (?) or similar which makes things slightly better ... I wish I'd bought a bigger phone to be honest
Yap. I noticed that too. I can't belive it but Samsung keyboard is better...
this is not a problem of small keyboard but problem of Android settings from HTC. I think its slow becasu of vibration of keyboard. Smasung has no vibration and I found that I do not need it at all! Yes, bigger display is better but I can tuch rigth letters easy on WFS but its just slow. You have to try writte something on Samsung and you will see! And becasuse Samsung Galaxy Ace has now Android 2.3.3 and video 640x480, enaught of RAM even it is less than WFS I am gonna to sell WFS and buy Smamsung And I think that battery is better as well. Finaly I do not like HTC Sense as many so why I bought HTC ? Because I just do not have experience, but only read specification and compare numbers and its is not good way to select right phone. Ok next time
And as I wrote its a problem of Android settings from HTC. It means that some one who is skilled can make some edit of Android and just change a respons of keyboard.
anybody knows ? ?
hey users of HTC, are you satisfied with speed of your keyboard ? If yes, just try samsung or learn to writte faster
I've just installed Beta Swype and the problem is solved
I use swiftkey X and that is very responsive.

Thanks. I had Swype before on my Samsung Galaxy Ace, found it useful but the keyboard's look just doesn't make the cut for me.
But for those who don't want Swype then they can download the Keyboard for Android 2.3 by Steven Lin from the Android Market, quite useful too. Not like the WS keyboard, the A and L trick should work.
I use smart keyboard pro. You can customize it a lot and also change visuals. Now i have a samsung style keyboard. You can also make the keyboard larger for bigger buttons etc ...
I've abandoned QWERTY and have started using the XT9 keyboard which suits my sausage sized fingers perfectly.
ONLY FOR ICS LEAK-BASED ROMS
ONLY FOR ICS LEAK-BASED ROMS
If you have Gingerbread, don't read further!!
Auto-rotate! :-D
Specifically, this fixes the accelerometer issue altogether. Its a deep fix, going down to the driver level. So games and camera work too.
This should work on all ICS leak-derivative ROMs, including my own (and will be baked into my upcoming release).
Long story short, this was made possible due to the ATT Galaxy Note leak (a cousin of the T989)
In theory we can now start pushing out functional ICS ROMs. But there is still the pesky call echo issue, looking into that.
Feel free to include it in your ROMs...although I do ask for some credit since I spent countless hours in the past few days investigating and investigating. My eyes are sore
Warning: Please make a NANDROID backup prior to flashing this.
You never know what can go wrong.
There is no need to clear Dalvik, but I'd do it anyway if I were you.
This file needs to be flashed with ClockworkMod
So you can put it on your SD card, boot into recovery, and install it.
Be careful though. Make a backup first. Always make backups.
IMPORTANT
After installation, remember to:
1) Enable auto-rotation on your launcher / whatever you prefer. Remember we had a little era of no accelerometer so its a little bit foreign ATM
2) Calibrate your Gyroscope via the Settings -> Display menu
confirmed

Works perfect. no problems during the flash. Just make sure whatever launcher you are running has the auto rotate turned on.
Everyone thought that this would be a problem only source could fix... Congratulations on proving them wrong
Can someone else who hasnt applied the mod download android sensor or something else that will interact with the gyroscope.
It seems like its working in reverse. left and right seems to control for and aft.
I could be crazy. So I would like someone else to confirm.

Folks, I'm speaking for all of us that subscribe to threads. Instead of posting "Thanks man" or something similar, just hit the "Thanks" button! We don't all need to be alerted when Joe Shmoe writes "thank you". We all appreciate the hard work of the devs - if you want to show your appreciation, keep the threads clean, or better yet, send them money/buy them a drink, if you are so inclined.
Thanks for your indulgence!
Confirmed working on EasyDoesIt. Awesome work!
this is fantastic. Was hoping it would fix Instagram, but it doesn't. I guess there are more issues with our ICS ports than just the auto-rotate. But we're getting closer!
Thank you so much! I can FINALLY play temple run and Asphalt
So after a couple of hours (20+ hours ) i have used stock 4.2 with root. No other modifications.
What I think:
-excellent speed, no lag or slowdowns
-excellent battery life with the new kernel
-the colors of the screen are much better!
-lovely new camera app
Everything is just perfect. What do you guys think of 4.2?

I love it! It's really fast, smooth and stable. Not a single problem in now almost two days. I like new additions, I got used to them right away. But, I've mentioned this before, the new "recent apps" is bothering me. It's really, really bothering me. I like that I can use the recent apps button while in-app to close it, but it stops right there. It's buggy like hell and it makes me feel like I'm on a nightly ROM each time I close an app. And I preferred the transparent look from 4.1. I seriously hope they'll fix it soon. Argh.
But, nevertheless, I love 4.2 - it's amazing.

1. lockscreen is a fail... o.o... after i slide to other widget page do something and come back to page where i can unlock my device i have to press a button to get the lockring? O.O also when i resize widgets i gets the lockring to another page and doesnt save the resize wtf really?
2. recent apps is cool, but its laggy. swiping apps is laggy, dont know why? hope we get the fix soon
3. power widgets at notifaction thing is not really widgets. example: if i press wifi toggle, it doesnt turn off or on wifi, it just takes you to wifi settings where you cant turn wifi on or off

of course they updated the kernel! look at the build date! and if nothing changed from the previous kernel, they could have used that one. they used a new one, and there are new changes. look at the 4.2 kernel source and you'll see
Not entirely they fubar'd the internal sdcard. Now everytime you flash a new ROM it will create a new partition in the /sdcard/ titled /0/ and you're f'd if you need a backup because thats in /sdcard/ while you're in /sdcard/0/0 :S

And you also seem a bit confused to the lock screen as well. But I'll let you figure that out

Guys I see many of you have lags and bugs, i suggest to wipe everything before flashing, that's what I did and I have no lag or bugs in recent apps or elsewhere...and I'm usually very picky about lags and framerate drops...really 4.2 is as smooth or better than 4.1.2 here...gmail and recent apps are smoother than ever, facebook feed scrolling is finally totally smooth, and generally 4.2 feels fast and solid, I see some nice tweaked animations here and there...
That being said I expected much more from the google development team, sure WP8 lacks a solid ecosystem, but the os itself has some cool features that I'd like to see on android...like the all in one chat app, or the app-personalized lockscreen...our lockscreen widgets can't even compare to that...seems like android team is out of imagination and is just implementing small and not useful things here and there instead of pushing boundaries

So...basically you want them to push boundaries but manage to release a very stable and solid ROM, sometimes as soon as a few months after the last release (4.0>4.1>4.2 in less than a year)? I somehow have a feeling if they had revolutionized the OS but couldn't manage to smooth out a few bugs, you'd be on here hating them for not releasing a stable ROM. I think maybe you should start deving and realize the time and effort it takes to bring new features with true stability.

Hey guys i saw this awesome app on Galaxy nexus thread that allows you to unlock your phone by just swiping on the screen; No need to press the unlock button anymore, but it only works on their phone due to kernal issues, I thought if some developer here could take a look in it make it possible for our device, would be awesome.
here is the link to their thread. please have a look:

THanks.
yes we need it on XS, it was awosme on GNEX
Also found it interesting.
But ... There will be impact on battery??
Sorry for bad english
worry about the battery problem....
btw I love the lockscreen action ( sliding on the back-home-menu-recent app bar) can it be ported and done by sliding on the virtual key on our phones?
So u guyz know any develoers in our forum that can do this job..?
there many Dev. Gods here on Xperia S, but don't know if any of them will be interested.
nd in my knowledge this is some sort of Kernel based mod. and there will be no battery drain. i recently had Gnex and i always use PGM, slide2wake. never have any issue with that.
any way hope there will be some Dev. who can make this work
hey guys, lets make this thread a long one so that devs can notice it. I thinks this slide2wake is a pretty neat feature we need to have in our XS. There will be no hassle anymore in trying to push the power button or the volume buttons.
Lets keep the comments coming guys
We really need this feature for my phone guys, our cool devs
Come on, we really do !!
+1 to that.

Yes, because at least you have to wakeup they for example every 75ms and check if there a pressure. So the battery consumption will increase, and the battery life on Xperia s it's one of the negative side. Also the sensibility of the capacity buttons it's very low, and with slide2unlock/swipe2unlock you can miss one or more button.
I think the Xperia s isn't the best smartphone for slide2unlock/swipe2unlock

As I've used Galaxy S2 with Slide to wake function, Here my experience about that function
- It's a kernel function not an app. You need a kernel that support this function. (Before I've change my device mostly AOSP kernels are supported)
- Really small to none impact on battery life.. even on a very first release. (fluxxi kernel if I'm not wrong) At most I've noticed it going to reduce your usage time about 1-2 min per 8 hour
- But sometime it doesn't respond that well (sometime I just touch then its wake... sometime doesn't ) And...yes that can be fixed in later released
- I'm pretty sure its gonna work with AOSP (Cyanogenmod) first. since there port from nexus... which is AOSP too.
Sorry for my bad English.
