[Q] Faster keyboard for fast typing on HTC WS - HTC Wildfire S

Hi
I just bought WS and have a oportunity to try my friends Samsung Galaxy Ace. I can compare just a keyboard and typing on it and I was surprised about speed of Samsung! Reaction time between two different letters is very short to compare with Wildfire S! So when I write faster on WS than in text are missing letters, on Samsung not. Why ?
Does anybody have chance to compare Samsung keyboard with HTC ? just try! is that general different of brand or just model different ?
try on your phone tuch letters "A" and "L" and keept touching and increase speed till you reach border of your keyboard or fingers
Correct result shoul looks like : alalalalalalalalalalalalalalalalal even you write very fast in my case on Smasung it was perfect.
But on WS looks final text in same speed like: aalllalllalalllalalallaaalalalallaalaalll
Is there any way how to increase reaction time on WS? if not than I sell my WS and buy Samsung
and sorry for my english

Tested it on my WFS and I see what your saying.
I use Swype beta for touchscreen input. Its a very fast way of typing when you get used to it

Surely the WS is just too small to type quickly and accurately?
I have installed something called big thumb (?) or similar which makes things slightly better ... I wish I'd bought a bigger phone to be honest

Yap. I noticed that too. I can't belive it but Samsung keyboard is better...

this is not a problem of small keyboard but problem of Android settings from HTC. I think its slow becasu of vibration of keyboard. Smasung has no vibration and I found that I do not need it at all! Yes, bigger display is better but I can tuch rigth letters easy on WFS but its just slow. You have to try writte something on Samsung and you will see! And becasuse Samsung Galaxy Ace has now Android 2.3.3 and video 640x480, enaught of RAM even it is less than WFS I am gonna to sell WFS and buy Smamsung And I think that battery is better as well. Finaly I do not like HTC Sense as many so why I bought HTC ? Because I just do not have experience, but only read specification and compare numbers and its is not good way to select right phone. Ok next time

And as I wrote its a problem of Android settings from HTC. It means that some one who is skilled can make some edit of Android and just change a respons of keyboard.
anybody knows ? ?
hey users of HTC, are you satisfied with speed of your keyboard ? If yes, just try samsung or learn to writte faster

I've just installed Beta Swype and the problem is solved

I use swiftkey X and that is very responsive.

You need to sign up to the beta to start the download process.
Bit of a hassle but worth it

Thanks. I had Swype before on my Samsung Galaxy Ace, found it useful but the keyboard's look just doesn't make the cut for me.
But for those who don't want Swype then they can download the Keyboard for Android 2.3 by Steven Lin from the Android Market, quite useful too. Not like the WS keyboard, the A and L trick should work.

I use smart keyboard pro. You can customize it a lot and also change visuals. Now i have a samsung style keyboard. You can also make the keyboard larger for bigger buttons etc ...

I've abandoned QWERTY and have started using the XT9 keyboard which suits my sausage sized fingers perfectly.

Nexus One (Speak2Text) feature in Desire???

Hi
Just wondering if Desire will have same Nexus One (Speak-2-enter-text in text msgs & Google Maps etc) feature on it, plus all other cool features in N1 (as I don't own N1, nor I have used any Android phone yet so don't know if these features are in Android build or only for N1).
Can we also start a poll to take member's opinion which phone they think is better between HTC Desire & Nexus One...
Thanks
K7
None of the features are N1 only they're just features of Android 2.1 which is what the Desire runs on
According to cnet, the voice to text function is not there (out of the box)
guess it wouldn't be long before someone makes it happen
is an internet connection required for the speech2text function?
You could just install the stock android keyboard to the device to use it.
Although HTC's is incredibly accurate and seems to be able to predict exactly what you want no matter how ****ed up you mish mash at the keys
So while HTC Desire's Sense Keyboard does not support Voice to Text, the user can (without modding) switch to Android Keyboard and enjoy speech to text? Please can you confirm that? I was about to un-desire Desire because I so much expect to use S2T for posting online.

Assuming you can install the android keyboard without root, yes. One can install other keyboards without root (swype for example) so i don't see why the stock android keyboard would be any different.
There is something else to keep in mind. Just because you might be able to install the keyboard, the actual underlying support may have been removed. I don't have the desire rom installed on my nexus anymore or I would check to see if speech to text abilities were even there.

Speech to text has been there since 1.6 though, for google search and translate.
There is absolutely no reason at all why HTC would remove this they just haven't included it in their keyboard.
This means that the ability to get Speech to Text is already there embeded in the phone, you just need a keyboard with the "Speech to Text" button to make use of it in messaging.
As I m spending well few hours everyday 2 decide about which one
I should get Desire r N1... It's so tough 2 decide 1 of these 2 devices
as I like few things in N1 & few in Desire........ Text 2 Speech is
some thing I don't wan2 compromise on (I've read some where
that T2S is not very accurate at the moment but I m still so
fascinated by it), so if there is no such function available in
Desire....then I will go 4 N1.

If this functionality isn't present in the Desire upon release am I correct in assuming that someone will release a ROM where this is possible?
and also if its true that its just the keyboard that needs replacing is that something you need root to do? or can you just install a new keyboard? (Bit of a noob here)

That is why XDA is the place for all your rooting/ROM flashing/making-my-phone-awesome needs
You don't need to be rooted to install a new keyboard.

If that was directed at me...I know you don't need to be rooted to install a new keyboard. I learned that when I had my MyTouch and installed the HTC_IME keyboard from Cyanogen.

Could everyone please keep thread on topic and stop posting off topic pics.
I would assume you have the Speech-to-Text feature on the Desire, as it was previously mentioned, it's an Android 2.1 feature, not a Nexus One exclusive feature. You also don't need to install any other keyboards, as the Desire Sense keyboard has the key already, as seen at 3:12 in the following video:

HTC Keyboard on my XDAndroid TP2?? Can't get it to work.

Trying to get the HTC keyboard for my phone cuz let's face it, the android keyboard sucks. I've been following this thread over on the XDA Nexus One thread and have followed it exactly installing both APK's. Each time when i long click and select Touch Input, no keyboard shows up on the screen.
I'm not exactly sure why it won't work since i have installed several other keyboards over the past.
If anyone knows how to get this working, or is experiencing a similar issue please let me know.
Bump
Seriously? Nobody. The android keyboard sucks haha and my swype expired.
lol dude, not clue why it doesnt work, i tried downloading the v20 apk from the N1 forums, it installs but when you switch input methods it doesnt show up so stuck in same boat

Physical kbd FTW!
working keyboard for android tilt 2
first you have to go to the xdandroid startup icon and make sure the model is on tilt 2 mode, then boot. just like using the regular keyboard. able to use fn key to enter numbers not like when they are all at the top.

Replacement keyboard

Can anyone recommend a great replacement keyboard from the stock samsung keyboard.. i dont use Swype at all.. My main issue with the keys is that its too tightly put together and making LOTS of typos.. been using the phone for close to 2 months already.

Try searching the forum for HTC IME mod, imo its the best android keyboard available, made even better by jonas

Even I am looking for a replacement keyboard. The issue with Swype is that the keys are small leading to lots of errors and since my native language is not supported I can't swype all the words.
Samsung is good as far as keys are concerned but only issue with it is that if you have to input numbers or some symbol you have to go to a different screen whereas on other keyboards you can long press a certain key and the corrosponding no or symbol is displayed.
If samsung had that option it would have been great.
I have downloaded smart keyboard and it does look good. Lets try it for sometime and see how it goes.
Tried smart keyboard for a few days and i dont really see any improvements... the "." is just placed to close on the space key
The HTC mod keyboard does not work after an upgrade to froyo. Any way of making that work?

Any keyboard out there with the same layout / distancing as the Iphone keyboard but retains the stock SGS or andriod look... I find texting on an ip3Gs / ip4 about 2x better compared to my SGS.
Swiftkey is the best keyboard I have found by far
Swiftkey looks nice, but it has very limited set of keyboard layouts.
For example, it is very funny that is supports Swedish language prediction, but not the Swedish keyboard layout.
Not very speedy to input Swedish words, when you are missing å, ä and ö keys
I always keep going back to the black droidx keyboard.. love how the keys are alittle bigger

Starting to stick to Droid x keypad as well.. Easy for quick typing
All of the keyboards around basically have the same spacing in them.. the distance on the iphone keyboard seems to be perfect.. for about 5 months with the samsung keyboard i still get a lot of typos
I actually use Smart Keyboard Pro and find it great.

Lg g3 Keyboard just unusable

Is it just me or does everyone else agree that the stock keyboard is unusable. Simple texts or emails take 5 times longer then just using the android keyboard. Its horrible. Horrible prediction and does actions I never even ask it to do. Haven't even got to the lag!!! I know there is a mod to fix the lag but I don't think it does much. Anyone else dealing with this?? Anything I can do?
I can't say I agree. The keyboard on the LG G3 has to be one of the best I have ever used. Very close to the one on the iPhone in terms of responsivenss, pretty much no lag and the predictions are quite good.
Have you tried the advanced settings for the keyboard?
The only issue I have with it is not inserting spaces as I'm swiping.
Tbh i love it. Its really great.
What lag are you talking about thats because of the LG keyboard?
For me the keyboard is very fast and the prediction is perfect. It looks good aswell and is very customizable.
It's just you the stock key board is one of the first I have not had or wanted to change soon at I turned the phone on
First stock keyboard that hasn't made me switch to swiftkey... Yet anyway
Glad I noticed this post. I had automatically installed swiftkey and turned it off for a while to see if I liked the LG keyboard. It seams very responsive and easy to use. I love the way you can increase the size of the keyboard.
Yeah the keyboard is pretty bad.
I used it for 1 month straight and was too tired of its errors. I didn't see any lag with it but things like swiping to "is" and getting "it's" drove me nuts and wasted a ton of time correcting. Far too many of these types of errors.
Back to Swype and it works perfect as always.
I like it at first but now reverted back to the Google Keyboard. I find the predictive not that good, say you wanted totype "Ship" it would automatically correct it to "Shop". Any word typed that is not in the dictionary it replaces with one that is, its trying to be too clever.
But the biggest problem is I get this bug where I can only type numbers.
There are good things about this keyboard, numbers shown on top row and excellent spacing of keys.

Ok, so switch to another keyboard. Seriously, these types of threads are out of control here. Are we getting all the rejects from the rest of XDA? Are all the smart folks buying other phones? What is going on here.
That was a little harsh. Last I checked this was a discussion board.

You know, you can easily ignore threads with titles that don't interest you instead of complaining... This is a thread about a feature on the phone that this forum is for - it is perfectly on topic.
I agree with the OP its one of the worst I've used because of how tiny the buttons are, I just switched to stock Google and am typing much faster because of it.
Just use Swiftkey, it's free !

No i didnt although opening it again after reading your post and i have noticed that the keyboard updated to a more modern ios type look which is nicer than the bubbly one it shipped with.
Install the Google keyboard, it's fantastic.
Well, kinda agree on this...i stopped using it too, try the google L keyboard... I found it easier to type and use as well. Is available on xda, just search for L keyboard... Comes as apk, can be aplied on non rooted device

ai.type seems pretty close to a samsung keypad
Nah no good. I like the gaps between keys for my fat fingers
Actually it's a pain in the ass to write in 3 different languages with most 3rd party keyboards. Swift/Swype are not usable with a Thai keyboard layout and additional Swiss and English layout. Samsung keyboard was the best and my error rate is 50% higher on any other keyboard even after several months of usage.
I've been looking for a port every time I had to use a non-Samsung device in recent months. There is simply none available.
I think it would be quite easy for someone who ported apps in the past. I guess the TouchWiz dependencies are minimal and could probably be circumvented somehow,.

Porting the Original S6 Keyboard is Not Possible Possible and easy also because Of Touchwiz-Framework Requirement.
But U can get S6 Like Themed Keyboard. (As Apple themed keyboard is Same as S6 )
