I had a question about unlocking my T989D. Its running CM10 atm and the latest telus modem. If i want to unlock it, do i follow the normal procedure of giving a site my IMEI, and do the usual, or do i need to be on a Telus rom(and does it have to be a stock unrooted rom)
Thanks!
Also, anyone know a cheap site!
No, it doesnt have to be telus stock unrooted rom. Just be careful when you choose a site to unlock from though because some sites will ask you to download a software which is not needed.
Try this site: unlockthatphone.com (This is one of the options but you may find cheaper.)
I used that site to unlock my g2x but not my galaxy s2 because it was factory unlocked.

+1... I used the same site, worked well but yes you will likely find a cheaper option if you can find someone to vouche that it works
That site costs $40! Thats insane. How does one unlock the phone while on CM10? I cant see any menus and googling hasnt helped.

Also..read that CM cant unlock phones 0_o
It's through the normal phone dialer. You gotta enter a code that unlock websites give you after giving them your IMEI number.

It would make sense that Samsung would create the unlocking feature inherited for the T-Mobile ROMs as well. Just flash any touchwiz ROM in dev section and go ahead with unlocking. Then u can flash back to cm9.

Hi All,
I currently have my phone running Slimbean build 4.1 with CWM installed for my recovery. I want to restore my phone back to stock to unlock it, and give Touchwiz a try again. Whats the best way to do this? I remember reading there was some sort of unlock method using from a stock os, can I still do this?
Thanks in advance.
Download odin for your pc and the stock firmware for your carrier. Use odin to flash the firmware. Both of these can be found in the Android development section.

Yep. Sure is as that is the stock 4.1.1
Are you looking to stay on stock and keep root ? IF so just flash the stock rooted .tar in odin.

Actually, I plan on going stock, no root. I don't use root functions that much. Problem is (for me anyways) I can't get a single hotfile link for the firmware to download right now, keeps getting Network Timeout.

Yeah, both on sammoblie (as well as the fourm's here) link to hotfile.
Well, got the phone back to stock, unlock not so much. Oh well, it was worth a try. Touchwiz is kind of nice, glad I went back.
Thanks for the help, I ended up having to use my cell connection to download the file, something OS related on my PC. oh well.

You won't unlock it for free (perma unlock anyway). You'll either have to get the code from your carrier or buy it online.

It might. I never tried it. Although, trying to get it from your carrier is the easiest way. Chat with the support and ask them (can make up some excuses). Could take a few tries.

Hi guys,
Today I brought a new T-mobile Samsung Galaxy S II for cheap. It already got stock JB rom 4.1.2 installed and I rooted the phone. I have 2 questions.
1) I would like to sim unlock the phone without calling t-mobile if possible. I tried checked out Galaxy_s unlock by helroz and there was one other app, but it would not allow me to install it. Anybody got any ideas how to do it?
2) I would like to have this stock JB rom if possible rooted of course, but I would like to set up wireless tethering and don't pay extra to t-mobile for doing it? Thanks.

You can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
It will take a lot of reading and some work but it is free. You can also pay someone for an unlock code.
Also, questions should be posted in Q&A.

Thanks, I tried. It doesn't work probably because I have a JB stock rom. I think I have to revert to an ICS stock rom with a different modem in order for it to work.

I have another question, if I were to install this rom above, do I have to install thru kies or use twrp? Thanks.

I think the file in that link is for Odin. You should be able to TWRP flash any of the ICS ROMs in the development thread and then flash the UVLE1 radio.

sup dude... look theres a way to do it i just dont recall how... you have to be rooted and get a file that has a lot of numbers in which you will find the unlock code. its in these forums somewhere but it is possible to do cause i was able to do it on cm10 4.1.2 . ill look around and see if i find it. ill keep you updated.
Got my Tmo GS4 yesterday, and after playing around with TW for a while decided it wasn't for me, so I flashed AOKP. My question is: after flashing AOKP, is my device now SIM-unlocked?
No, flashing a ROM doesn't make your phone unlock.

If your phone is locked, flashing custom ROMs will not unlock it. On the other hand, once you unlock your phone, flashing custom ROMs or using Odin to return to stock will NOT re-lock your phone. Also of importance, if you do wish to unlock, I do believe that you must be running TouchWiz to use the free unlock in the general section.

That method requires TouchWiz; coincidentally enough, this is the only method (outside of somehow talking your carrier into doing it) that is free.

Doesn't matter which version of TouchWiz you use, it doesn't specifically have to be for the M1919, it just has to be TouchWiz. I don't know for certain if those sim unlock codes you can buy will work via AOSP honestly. If it throws up a box asking for an unlock code if you put a different carrier's sim in using AOSP, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. But then again, it might be more of a hassle, to flash back to TW, unlock, then restore your backup; but free sounds like a much better deal than $25-40 or however much it costs.
I'm looking for a stock 4.1.1 or 4.1.0 ROM so I can sim-unlock the n7100, but all the links I have found so far are dead.
If someone has the file, could they please upload it? It's the one that is approx 1.0gb.

Thanks, I got the download but I'm trying to SIM unlock this ROM and the relevant SIM unlock options don't appear in the Debug menu. Is there a ROM I can flash to make this easier? Also how do I root the 4.1.1 ROM? I can't seem to find a rooted kernel for this ROM, only for 4.1.2 and above.
Basically is there a foolproof method to SIM unlock a n7100?

Ive read that ypu just need.to flash the 411 rom beyond.that im not sure!
Did that rom flash a bootloader? I woukd imagine it did but might be worth double checking. Dunno if.it.would.make.a.difference or not though either. If all else fails and you cant do.it for.free a good.option is GalaxSimUnlock - will yell.you if.it can be done before you pay fot it and its cheap. I used it on an s2 and woukd recommend it
try it on the older rom
I managed to root 4.1.1 and then ran but it still doesnt let me unlock. Im going to try an even older ROM tomorrow. Hopefully it will work.

The ROMs that contain the correct radio are all going to be on sammobile.com
It's just a case of finding the correct file and knowing what to look for. I'm trying out the XXALIE, still downloading...
Look on sammobile.com and start typing '7100XX' or '7100XXA' and you should start seeing relevant ROMs. Report back if you find one that works please, I'm sure the information will help others like me.

If I remember right, once on 4.3 you can no longer use the free unlock method. You will have to buy a code online. If you have a T999, you can try flashing the 4.1.1 modem and see if you can do it though. You wont get any signal if you are on a 4.3 rom until you flash back to the 4.3 modem btw.

You dont need to be rooted, but you do need a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) in order to flash the modem. I never made any odin flashable packages for the modems, only recovery flashable.
Just so you know, flashing a custom recovery will void your warranty if its still valid and you care about that.
Thanks bro, I don't care about warranty.... So all I have to do now is flash a recovery then flash the modem, hmm wonder if anyone has ever got it to work like that before tho.... If it doesn't tho can u recommend a cheap unlocking site please

All I remember for sure is that on 4.1.2, samsung patched against this unlock method, but we were still able to flash the 4.1.1 modem and unlock. In 4.3, you cant use an older modem or youll get no signal, but Im just not sure if you can still use the free unlock method that way.
Ebay had several very cheap options at one point. Also, http://gsmliberty.net has/had(?) a promo where if you posted a video of yourself unlocking using their method they would refund you your money, essentially making it free. Not sure if that is still valid though.

Any 4.1.1 modem, as long as its one for your model device. If you wanted you could see if flashing a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 rom would make a difference, but as before, I kinda doubt it will.
When we were updated to 4.1.2, and found that the unlock method was patched, all we had to do was flash an older modem. Didnt matter what build it was from.
agree
