[Q] USB OTG Problems - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

just got a chance to try out a USB OTG cable. my current setup well not allow me to explore files on my flash drive. I know the flash drive and cable is good because I plugged the same setup into a friend's SGS3 and it worked right away.
the question is, is this more likely a problem with my kernel or my ROM?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

Maybe both. Vague problem, vague answer.

ok, fair enough. the ROM is an alpha that is not released to Toroplus yet. the kernel is tuna faux123. the problem is when I plug in my thumbdrive I am unable to explore files. I even installed Stickmount from the market. it tries to mount the drive, to no avail.

so, besides the troll who popped in to flame me, does anyone have an idea about this? i am not looking for specifics, just a general idea about if USB OTG is controlled more by the ROM or more by kernel choice.

USB OTG is controlled by you. Just plug the cable. You're doing it wrong.
Now, that's me just trolling too.
Either way, maybe you can help me on one thing here. I have a 2005 Accord diesel. Can I use an oil filter from the 2007 facelift version?

So simple. You ask the questions, then give the answers.
It's because of your alpha rom? Maybe. Try another.
It's because of the kernel? Try another.
See? Simple. No one can go to your place and do that for you. Test, test, test.

C'mon guys...he just wants to know if anyone has used it successfully...if you can't answer why post?

Too specific problem. User should try other setups and give feedback. Be proactive, people.

just because you didn't know the answer, doesn't make it a flawed question. it wasn't too specific, it didn't require testing. someone out there smarter than both of us probably knew the answer. is the USB OTG function controlled by ROM or the kernel? instead of an answer i got my thread clogged with your smartass comments and non-answers. i'm sure if there's an opening in the question police squad on XDA you'll be the first to apply, but until then your self appointed opinion on the validity of questions in the Q&A thread isnt appreciated or needed. not by me anyway.

Make pancakes not war!

Hey noob, i'm not trolling. You asked which was more likely. I said maybe both, because it is!
Kernel because of fs support, rom because of vold and enforced permissions. Now go search and learn.

[Question] Will Moto Atrix features be portable to EVO?

So with the Atrix about to be released it has me thinking. Will the features of the "portable laptop" be able to be ported and included in an EVO rom? I mean we have this HDMI out that basically does nothing and this would be PERFECT. So how hard would it be? Would a bounty help push for development? I know I would pay to be able to use my EVO as a portable computer.

thanks Jacka$$. Considering it straddles the fence of being part of a rom and more of a technical question, it did not seem fitting to put it in the Q&A. Could this not be a ROM COMPONENT?
Mods feel free to lock or move. It will get no attention in the Q&A when it is really about a rom component.

That's a interesting topic but like the post above said it should be in Q&A and believe it or no there is developers checking those forums, I seen Calk posting in General and he is a developer and some others as well. Back to the topic the would be cool but at the same time I think too much for the evo for now I just wish we can get the new sense or gingerbread eatheir one would be good for the Evo

Just as you wouldnt be able to take moto stuff and put it into an HTC phone. Besides the atrix has hardware differences to allow that stuff.

Also, explain how this "straddles the fence" of being part of a ROM. I must have missed the part where you started porting this and writing code. My mistake.
No. You wouldn't. As great as software can be it can't make non-existent connections on the PCB board to appear out of no where.

There's room in the car, just throw the tire from the Toyota in the back seat.
But for the most part, no. Things like the launcher or moto apps most likely rely on frameworks only present in a rom built for the Atrix. You can't just rip frameworks from a totally different device, and slap it in another device and expect it to work.

[q] wfs usb otg rom

Hello all.
Last week I had some tries to integrate USB OTG features to @alquez ROM. The idea was to port USB OTG functionality from ZTE BLADE kernel (both of them are msm7227 based), but I had no luck. The difference between 2.6.32 and 2.6.36 kernels made me sick. Does anybody knew of similar projects?
Sorry my posting here, can't post to developer forum.
usb otg for the wfs (marvelc) was the reason I joined XDA
vladshikhov,
The reason I converted from a longtime lurker to an actual member was so I could get USB OTG working on my HTC Wildfire S (Marvel C). When It comes to android kernels I may be a noob, but I'm learning slowly. I just want to say please don't give up your (re)search. If you need another wfs to experiment on, let me know. I also offer my help; let me know what you don't yet know and I'll try to find it.
V/R,
Kalumnus

This is my first post so please excuse its formal style.
Wow... Thats cool... I actually neva knew sucha feature existed!!!!!
Hope someone helps u out and u get it working asap!

Csb are u done tryna be a mod? Cause reading back to your comment you didn't really contribute anything useful to his question either.
Now as for the question also apks cannot simply be installed on a touchwiz room the framework for both of these is pretty different you have to actually change code and port it over can't simply uninstall =(

Okay, it is very difficult to make an AOSP ROM with no device tree. That's why we have barely any 100% working. Remember, if you take kernel apart, you will find yourself with many, many files. You need to look through them all and link all the files. If those linked files don't work, then maybe you have to add some. If it still doesn't work, you will need to rework the drivers/firmwares. It is a difficult process. You also need to link all kernel/ROM together. *APK's HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS PORTING PROCESS*

Apparently you have never worked with source and/or compiled from... there are plenty of reasons why that can't happen. Main reason there is no device tree with proper source.

This is among the useful response for the original question. I was just encouraging him to go try it that is the best way form him to figure out why its not that simple.
This question has been asked before and I have seen how people have responded with different answers of this question. Whenever this question has been responded with technical reasons then it just ends up being followed by a question of why cant you do "A" even though "A" is based on not knowing another technical reason. The problem is the real satisfactory answer involves knowing alot of the basics which would have precluded you from asking the question in the first place.
Asking this question is like ends up like the following
"A: Why cant you fish with potato bits as bait?"
"B: well fishes dont like to eat potatoes"
"A: potato is food though,Why dont they like food"
It has been suggested before so clearly if someone knew how to do it they would have done it. The best thing at this stage is to try it.

Yea.. I was not implying that we grab APKs from some random AOSP build and copy on top of some working stock ROM. My question more is that I see on samsungs opensource site they give us kernel source for the t989 (have not looked at it yet) and then they gave us some build files to copy over and overwrite the build environment for AOSP which I did and built (currently trying to figure out how to use the *.img files), but shouldn't that give us a ~90% AOSP build? That or I am completely not understanding the README file from samsung.

I wasnt giving you a smart remarks just pointing out that at this point it is best to just try it because nobody knows all the exact steps because nobody has done it for this device.
You are left seeking genera android kernel advice which ->

I was not saying you were being a smart %^& just saying what I think dude was saying. In fact because of your comment I went got the source from samsung and repo synced AOSP and compiled it and have been playing around since just a little stuck now. My question was for more a technical reason. I understand now that we don't have a device tree for the t989 that works flawlessly... at least thats what i get from alpha and darkside. Now my question more is what the heck is the use of the source from samsung then?

You can actually modify the Kernel it just takes work. For example if for some reason either the t989 or skyrockets ICS kernel was open sourced there would be a rotation fix so quick for the one with broken rotation.
Samsung just throws the source they finished out there but doesnt really provide or I think care to provide any work towards AOSP builds.

I build it in FLEX-A100-REAPER-RF1 (not yet released), but it is in testing stage and as I don't have a a100 I cannot test that feature. You can also always use drivemount.
We don't have kernel sources, and Russian support told me that they are not planning to release them. And without sources any money won't help to do USB Host... Also, in service manual on schemes you can see that USB Host is not available because of hardware problems...

[Q] Is there any daily driver besides Android *FOR THE GNEX* ?

about this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176028
For those who were'nt the brightest and sharpest at school, I asked if there is another smooth and stable os that a person can use as a daily driver, of course since it's a gnex forum, for his GNEX.
Now, Is there ? Maybe WP or even use a linux distro if there are dial and sms functions.

If there was an alternative stable OS, there would be a development subforum about it. Open your eyes. Do you see any?
Search. Focus. Think.
