Cleaning up Custom Kernel flashes - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Okay lets say im on stock everythings 100% stock and i want to flash a custom recovery kernel that has init.d support, custom boot ani support, and add blocking ect..... ok so i flash it lets say........then i lets say i revert back to my stock recovery and kernel......okay now here is the question.......is there anyway i can clean up what the custom kernel installs? Is there a need to clean up? I want to add my own tweaks so i dont want anything bumping code or have multiple code in my phone i want it nice and clean.
Thank you

Your question is confusing but bottom line if you want to start fresh do a clean installation.
Why anybody here would want a stock setup is beyond my comprehension.

Exactly my point i want it fresh and ill do my own thing but i need these custom recovery kernels to gain root or when i need to flash a zip in cwm so after im done kernel riding somebody else is work please take all the belonings with you brought with you when i flash you out. Its in view of my comprehension that these builds dont have a fresh way to gain root access for example like using one click root or an apk to root. they made them in the past before for us sgs2 users.

Use a pre-rooted Odin one click and you get root w/o recovery. There are rooted 1clicks all the way thru fi27. If u use a no-data version all your apps and settings will remain after flash.

Ok now I understand a little more what you want. I think you should spend more time reading and browsing the development sections for more info. I think Agat63 has been packaging stock kernels lately for those who prefer this.

lol yea.. theres plenty of ways. ifor one use mobile odin whenever i need to fllash a kernel.. you can switch between all the kernels you want and maintain root

@Shark_On_Land Hey man!!! I would go step by step back to the forums and just read, i just got done installing my first rom after rooting, etc.. etc took me 8 hours but learned ALOT,... got a few boot screens with big red triangle a few times but hung in there... Point is i missed several steps and didnt write a post, cuz like the small tutorial said in the beginning someone else most likely already had your problem. If not then I hope you get the help u need soon... aside from all that XDA ROCKS!! ty guys!!
I would back up any/all data (nandroid+Titanium), then flash a rooted ROM after doing a full wipe, then your caches of course. It sounds like you are using the ROM that came with your phone. You can get into RA Recovery can you?
Not sure what your saying here. Your not the OP. But I take your post is intended for the OP so I won't make a snarky remark.
Congrats btw.

Need help finding compatible ROM

Ok so I have US Cellular's version of the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch (SCH-R760).
Long story short I messed up my build.prop folder and am stuck in a bootloop. I'm trying to find the stock ROM to flash with ODIN for my model but cant find it because its an obscure model. Does anyone know where I can find the stock SCH-R760 ROM, or a ROM compatible with my phone?
I'd even be cool with a custom ROM like Cyanogenmod, as long as its able to be flashed via ODIN and is compatible with my phone. Thanks in advance!
http://teamuscellular.com/Forum/index.php?/topic/1525-stock-odin-files/
here ya go
thank you so much! worked like a charm. i really appreciate the help. i made sure to save the rom files to my computer as well as performing a nandroid backup to prevent this from happening again. also, i was wondering if theres a stable ICS rom compatible for my phone yet. i searched around for it, but i dont trust my judgement.
If not ICS, what is a good souped-up fast custom ROM?

Ones that are made for your phone, obviously. Not gonna find them here though. Your phone is new and on a smaller carrier so development is going to be slow. I'm sure if you give it some time there will be a few ROMs that pop up. Just enjoy the stock ROM for now- root it, debloat it, toss some tethering into the mix. You'll be fine.
That link I put up has all the custom stuff I could find for your phone. Mainly CM7, CM9, Miui and AOKP.

Thanks again guys. Sorry Root i didnt realize that was on that thread i shouldve read the whole thing. Im good for the time being. Metalhead ive done all that so far rooted, debloated tether installed, and minor build.prop tweaks. I appreciate all the responses!
So it would seem that my gps doesnt work now. Any suggestions? Maybe an update/zip that ibcan flash via cwm?
CM 11
I have an sch-r760 on Alltel. I am running dastin1015's Villuminati CM 11 for the D-710. It is running flawlessly. I have voice/text/mms/data all working.
Any D710 ROM will work

[Q] Root and Non-root dual boot?

I got to thinking the other day after I got the "Firmware Update" notification for the umpteenth time that it would be really cool if there were a way that I could run the factory non-rooted ROM so that I could check my work email easily and then use some sort of app or sequence to switch in to a rooted ROM to do everything else. Is that possible?
No dual boot for us yet...

By firmware update are you talking about an ota update? If so, there are several zips you could flash to get rid of it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Dual booting a zImage is tricky. Not to say its impossible but it isn't easy like a standard bootimg dual boot. The main problem lies in the recovery being packed with the kernel. When dual booting android if u run into an issue such as a bootloop you flash a zip to boot back to your main rom, the zips are recovery specific. With Tue recovery changing between zImage flashes you could quite easily end up in limbo til you get to a PC with Odin/heimdall to flash a new firmware and be able to boot back up. There's been some work done on it but you can't boot across versions only same build/version and its not really stable in the secondary rom due to kernel conflicts

let me get to the root of the problem. no pun intended.
why do you need to be unrooted to check work email? do you use an app like 'Good for Enterprise' that checks for root or something?

I have to use Touchdown for email and if it detects root (Superuser) it kicks you off the network-which I can't have.

[Q] What Next after rooting

Just want to say this my first time rooting a device etc, this is pretty new to me. So I followed the steps in this thread to root my totally stock Sprint LGOG ZV9. I rooted with no problem. No I just want to know do I need to backup my current config, what software would I use. Also was the boot loader unlocked. I Just want to make sure that I do exactly what is supposed to be done correctly. Are there custom roms for lgog currently.
Just an image showing phone was rooted

Phone firmware info
Oh just figured Id show some great 4g speeds I get from Sprint at my house !! These speeds are very consistent at my house and you can see there isnt anu WIFI on just my Sprint Data. I am moving in the next month or so though. Its crazy where internet speed has come in the last 10 years.
4.1.2 Jelly Bean has been released for this phone now, I'd start by getting that. check out the LGOG development forums to flash a stock version of it or I think Lifeless ROM also has Jelly Bean incorporated now.

After rooting you can choose to unlock your bootloader to flash better code or custom roms to your device, or download and run apps that would require root like root explorer or setcpu to change how your device works.
Unlocking is a whole different ballgame. It allows to flash custom kernels and roms. Like spatel said, 4.1.2 is out and if you unlock and flash TWRP or CWM, you can make a backup of your current phone system, data, efs, cache and then flash 4.1.2 to your phone to see if you like it or not. You can flash the new ZVB radio and possibly improve your signal. It all depends on what your comfortable with. Also, it depends on your interests and whether you're into theming or developing and rooting is just one of those precursors.
Currently there are a few roms based on stock but some AOSP roms will follow now that some source is available to developers. From what I understand, the efs contains important device info and is currently breaking with AOSP roms attempts but I'm sure the devs are making progress on it. If anything check the threads and stickies for a lot more info. There's a wealth of info out there and Google is your friend lol

i have a mobile odin guide...but it might be a little to much info for you out the gate....more or less on this device. if you want a recovery you have to flash a kernel...as ryan said...our kernels and recoveries are tied together. so you need to go to rwilco12's repo and find a kernel with a custom recovery (cwm ) that is compatible with the rom you are currently running.
if the device is on jb 4.1.2 you need to grab a gb27 kernel that has cwm in it....but if the device is on ics....you really need to odin the gb27 rooted one click that wipes data...this is needed because jb has a preload partition that we need to make room for.
there is a qbking77 video showing how to do this....but even easier than that...there is a link in rwilco12 repo for this exact one click...and it has instructions as well as a link to a video... i think.lol
if you are on jb 4.1.2 hit me back and ill walk ya through a mobile odin flash for the kernel....easy as pie...
