[Q] OMTP to CTIA using software. - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, Amund here. Recently i bought this headset for use on my Xperia Arc S. Unfortunately the headset was a stereo-headset with a microphone using the CTIA conector type. As i'm sure you know, the Arc S uses the OMTP standard. I've done some reading, and i found out the only difference between these standards are that they have swapped the microphone pin with another pin. ( swapped the pin called R2 with S).
There are some adapter around, but none local, wich means i will have to ship it, but that costs so much.
I was wondering, is there any way to configure the software to make it a CTIA minijack in sted of a OMTP minijack?
I am so sorry if there already is a post about this. I searched xda, but could only find one post, og and nobody had answered to it.
Thanks in advance for replying! (btw, ska I'm a newb on xda and Android in general, so please correct me if im wrong in some ting or some way!

There's no app that could do that because it's a hardware limitation. You can however buy an adapter from ebay

Thanks jman . I have already bought an adapter from ebay, IT was an TRRS adapter wich i was sure was the right ting, og but it did not work. IT had some weird things on the sides of the actual minijack(one more connector) wich then didnt let me plug it to the Phone. I cut the ting off, but then it Just work like a short cable extension.
Gonna try buy an EC250 adapter on amazon, but as ive seen they dont ship to Norway. I have an aunt who said she had bought from amazon many times before. Any ideas it dont work for me? Do i have to register a creditcard first? (ive already made a user and written my location info but then it says it cant ship to that adress. My aunt had the same problem but she found another way of gjetting it shippet, wich she says she have forgot)
Any ideas? again Thanks in advance

Micro USB to HDMI (new link)

Hi,
Is this item will work with our phones?
Link changed:
http://www.macrozon.com/products/113-micro-usb-b-male-to-hdmi-adapter-mhl-adapter.aspx
That's from a Mac to a TV

Yep. As far as I can see, this is a mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cable. This will NOT work on your phone. The cable simply won't fit in your device.
Wrong link
Sorry wrong link i copied ,this one i'm talking about.

A quick Google and YouTube search showed me that there are more people who use such a device and that you can indeed use it to connect your phone (HTC WildFire S) to a TV. So it should work. But before you buy it, make sure to check if your TV has an HDMI jack and make sure you have an HDMI to HDMI cable, else you should buy one.

If anyone tried before please reply.
There is IPOD RCA TV-OUTcables which is work with some android phones too but still not sure it will work or not.
Here is link
Again, a quick Google search helped me to find an answer to this problem, see here:

As they say in the thread, the Desire S does not have the right port for that... Sorry, but you can't!

Hehe man i already know its not working for desire s.
I am asking for wildfire s
I checked out the ends from the pics and they are indeed micro usb. So theoretically it will work. But in practice... You'll probably have to be the guinea pig to try it. But if you succeed, it may just make you a legend 'round here.
In my opinion you might need to code a it in a rom so that it recognises and gives you something "out" on the TV

BUMP. Rom makers!
A quick call to the HTC Helpdesk taught me that the usage of (MHL) MicroUSB to HDMI cable is only possible on the HTC Sensation or the HTC EVO 3D. Sorry, but it's not for the HTC Wildfire S...

I'm sure they are talking about there own MHL cables. Which they product for few htc devies. ( like this one http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=209996 )
They didnt make cable for wildfire s its why they are telling only for few device.
What about RCA cable, did you ask them? ( actually they are not making RCA cable so answer will be no again (RCA cable is for IPOD anyway ,but working with android devices))

I don't think it'll work. I asked them about the MHL functionality of the MicroUSB port of the HTC Wildfire S and the guy said that it can't be done. Sure, you can try, but I don't think it's possible... It would most likely be a waste of money. But then again, if you feel like you have too much money, go for it.
EDIT: If you do go for it, I cannot take responsibility when it doesn't work or when it damages your phone, bank account balance or whatever. It will be YOUR responsibility..
I does the wfs have DLNA? If so HTC media link adapter, if not well its usb to hdmi. Before you get a cable make sure your tv has a hdmi port

I really have no idea what you're trying to say, but ehhm, the guy I spoke to at the HTC Helpdesk told me it is possible to link your phone to your TV with DLNA, if you have the proper equipment for it (he said you could then share your phone's screen via WiFi).
I know DLNA thing. my tv have dlna. but i want to play game or use apps /web browser on my tv (+bluetooth keyboard etc)( LIVE STREAM). I searched on google and saw wildfire s using 5 pins micro usb and this cable is 5 pins to 19 pins . I think im going to order a cheap cable from ebay.
But still maybe i will need tv out app (few android devices have settings for tv out) so rom makers please go for it
BTW i loled .

You can try, but I doubt it'll succeed. Once you did try, tell us if you succeeded or not. At least that'll give us some definitive answer.

Apple Headset working on the Arc?

Hey,
since I got my Arc about a year ago I was asking myself if there is a tweak or a trick to get my standard Apple headset to work on it.
When I attach it, to my Arc it says something like "The Accessoires are not supported " (I dont know what it really says, my phone language is German )
I would really appreciate any help).
Thx Eike

Apple use TRRS and Xperia use OMTP standard. Don't know if it is possible at all. Some kernel dev should answer.

If the headset has mic support it wont work. Theres a trick, you can hold or tape the mic button and connect. The sound qualiy will be poooor, that doesnt matter because apple headset is a piece of sht.

Does beats works with Xperia play without adapter ?

?????
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
Depends, which Beats? ControlTalk won't work, but with the Solos you get 2 cables. One works.
Look in the forum, as far as I remember this has been posted before but I can't find the post.
Now, to answer you, the short answer is not. And to clarify here's why:
SonyEricsson phones use a (jack) standard called OMTP (also does Nokia), while Sony phones (Xperia P, S, U, etc), Apple and almost every other company uses CTIA.
This obviously means that the headphones won't work, but...
The only difference between those two are the connection layout:
CTIA:
T-Left Audio
R1-Right Audio
R2-Ground
S-Mic
OMTP:
T-Audio Left
R1-Audio Right
R2-Mic
S-Ground
So to make them work you can buy or make an adapter that swaps R2 and S, or one that short-circuits both; the first kind will let you use the mic, volume control etc, while the other kind (a simple extension would do) won't.
Now, if you don't want to use ANY kind of adapter, not even a simple extension there's a way you can make them work:
It is supposed that once you push the central button on a headset (OMTP or CTIA, doesn't matter) what it internally does is short circuit R2 and S, so, if you manage to hold all the time the central button on your beats they should work, nevertheless the mic and so won't work either as their data goes through the S ring.
Being all that said here's an issue, even with the adapter they won't work, I'm not quite sure why, you can see my post about that issue, there I try to make work a headset like the beats on my Xperia.
I hope I helped you
I bought studio. It works.

Bro thanks for this suggestions but I didnt do anything but Studio works with no problem...

Oh, I see... sorry for my rant, I thought that you were talking about the ControlTalk enabled ones , since every 3.5 standard TRS headphone works with almost every phone .
Would a OMTP to CTIA concerter therefore double as a CTIA to OMTP adapter, following circuit logic, making OMTP work on my iPod Nano as well as CTIA on my PLAY?

Nah mate! The hardware restrictions will not allow you, no matter what kinda software you use.
CTIA & OMTP are two different hardware standards!

Beats seemed to work on my phone when I had cm9 but not on gingerbread. Although I might have fake beats: I'm not too sure.

[Q] What model do i have?

Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could clear up an query i have.
I have a note 8.0 3g with a broken screen, ordered a replacement screen for a n5100 (i thought this was the model i had).
The screen has not arrived yet but some new housing i ordered has arrived also for the n5100.
Problem = the housing for n5100 does not fit as it has a micro usb where as mine has a large 30pin connector.
So my question is what model do i have?
Currently its in bits so can't really plug it in to Kies.
Thanks in advance.
I could be wrong but im pretty sure the note 8.0 only has a micro usb port :/.
Does your tablet have a model number on the back

Thanks for the reply. Just to throw another spanner in the works I have received my screen but it doesnt fit into the bezel. The screen works and I have checked the model in about device and its a gt-n5100. What the im so confused now, one thing I did notice is that after a factory reset the default language was danish or checz.
So just to confirm I also checked all visible markings on the board and back plate and all state gt-n5100!
Help!

You have a bootleg tablet. Another member a while back posted pictures of 2 note 8s that he had. One like you described, and a legit one. Sounds like yours may be a counterfeit or some very early batch they ran before they changed to a micro USB. I have a feeling you will have a hard time getting parts. What happens when you enter the serial number on Samsung's support site? Did you buy it from a reputable dealer?
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Tapatalk 4
Ok so after some very extensive research and contacting some part remanufacture s in china they have clarified I have an early demo/exhibition model and they are infact the same as the current model bar the housing, back, speakers and charge port. So I shall order more parts and transplant them.
Ill keep you all posted on my progress and thank you for the replys
