** Sick Of Opening Phone Dialer & Having To Switch To Keypad? ** - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Are You Sick Of Opening Phone Dialer & Having To Switch To The Keypad?
Well I was ! So I Found a Solution!
Drove me crazy to have to switch from call logs to dialer ..
From dialer to logs ect ect ..
I wanted TWO Icons ..
One for the Phone Keypad ..
One for the Call logs ..
Sooooo ... Heres How I did it.
1. Download xShortcut
xShortcut Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ex.chinyang.android.xshortcut&hl=en
2. Open xShortcut
3. Click: Activity Capture Mode
4. Read Pop-up Instructions !
5. Open Phone Dial Pad.
6. Pull Down Notification Window and pick: Grab Activity
7. On Pop-up Window Pick: Edit
8. Under Short Cut Name: Change Name to Dial
9. Under ACTION Pick: ACTION_DIAL
10. Pop-Up Window Create ShortCut: Pick ACTION!
DONE !
You Now Have a Short Cut That Will Open The Phone-Keypad Every time!

I would do it if there was whole number pad as a widgets on homescreen. But just for an app I will pass it

LOL Well .. Kinda ..
Because the phone/dialer saves the last screen your on.
Seems I was always on the wrong screen!
When I needed the dial pad .. seems it was always on contacts.
When I needed contacts .. It was always on Dial Pad.
Got really Annoying! LOL

Why not put the contacts app next to the phone app in the dock? That app is a waste of space, lol just like thus thread IMO. But to each their own!

Well .. you may think its a waste ..
But I have to dial different numbers for a company
I Sub-Contract for .. they have 1000 different sales
People with 1000 different numbers
So I use the Dialer more then the dam contacts / or miss call logs!

Just use exDialer. It's even better than stock dialer and it's themeable.

[REQUEST/SUGGESTION] Slide to unlocked BEFORE pin/passcode

One great thing I love about the E4GT, is the ability to slide to open new message, missed call, etc. Now, I am from a Cuban family, and Cubans tend to be pretty nosy sometimes xD, and force of habit makes me put a pin lock on my phone. Whenever I do, I miss the ability of the TW4 slide to unlock, and the slide to notification. So just wondering if there was a way, could a dev make a file to put in somewhere on the phone to bring back the slide to unlock before the password, or incorporate this into a ROM? Just a suggestion/request.
And if someone wants to take this further, maybe incorporate a way for sliders to pop up for push notifications?
I'd do this myself, but I'm no dev.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
huh..wtf..wow
So you have nosy people in your life and you want them to have access to your messages, but not any other part of your phone???
No no no. If you put a password lock on your phone, it will disable the standard swype to unlock, which includes the slide to open notifications. What I'm asking/suggesting is to somehow make it so that enabling the password lock will not disable the swype to unlock.

+1
I would also like to have this ... my company's security exchange server protocol requires a pin to unlock my phone, I would like to have the "swype to unlock" screen before I get to the keypad where I enter the pin.
I've been asking for this and same notification volume level as ringer volume level lol
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
You can easily just do this with Widgetlocker. Just install it, download SGS II theme and set the security pin. By doing so, when unlocking with widget locker it will take you to the security pin screen instead of unlocking your device.
Give it a try.
MiLocker is another free one.
In still confused on the part about your noisy family...

why would you want to make your phone more inconvenient to use? what purpose does the lockscreen serve?

Thanks, I've actually already tried it, but there is a nice considerable battery drain, ontop of no more slide to notifications for texts, etc. , which is one of the main things I want.
I actually tried widgetlocker and had it on rotary, and one of the slides opened my inbox, but it always opens somewhere to the middle of my conversations, never to the top, and never to the new message like the standard loclscreen does. And the battery drain was wayyyyy to much.

It may seem inconvenient to you, but I spend all day sending text messages back and forth, and look the difference in steps.
As it is now:
On> Password> Home button out of any application I was on that wasn't messages> Tap messages> open the new message.
Now, after what I'm requesting/suggesting:
On> Slide new text slider> Password and bam! I'm at the message.
Huge timesaver for people who send text messages back and forth through the day.

Lockscreen Idea---

So I have an idea for a lockscreen but im not sure what to do with it... share it for a dev to find and possibly make? Or learn how to create it myself.. either way I havent a clue how to go about it... anyone have some advice?
can u share the idea i like to know
ok like a bunch of sliding blocks in from different directions that when you press and drag on them they can be slid away from screen.. and you "set the pattern" by choosing how many blocks and which blocks and in what order you have to swipe... so if someone for instance doesn't start on the correct block you can slide them around all day but it wont open... but if you swipe the correct say 3 in the correct order.. viola...
Instead of one constant motion like the pattern dots.. or a swipe lock screen.. you actually need 2 or more swipes...

Never responded... anyone else wanna take a stab at it.. or tell me how to go about making it myself?
I don't know how to code but the algorithm would be pretty simple
Assuming everyone starts with the same blocks in the same places
The specific combination of swipes would be needed to unlock the phone, dammit I can visualize this in my head but it's hard to put into words... I would also need to see what kind of layout u are specifically talking about, do u know how to code

Stop screen from lighting up with every text?

My screen lights up every time i get a text for like 5 seconds. I use 20,000 texts a month. I don't want it to do it since it wastes battery and this phone has a notification LED. Is there a setting I can turn this off? Thanks in advance!
I searched everywhere and called Samsung. There is no way to stop this. I downloaded GO SMS and it works great with that. It's stupid that Samsung wouldn't think anyone might want to change this setting and build it in without forcing you to go third party.
I'm not sure if you mean the LED Indicator(the circle light that lights up by earpiece)?
Settings - Display - LED Indicator
I have this issue as well. The screen comes on when you get a text and is very annoying

Unless they have updated recently, I don't think that GO SMS is compatible with the smart notifications and direct calling.
Try Handcent. They have a lot of notification options.
You can turn off notifications in the sms app and use sms popup from the market.

I am VERY happy to say that I am in the same boat as this person. My screen does not turn on by its self when I receive a text. It did on my Note I and it pissed me the hell off. I'm not sure why this is happening to some people and not others, but I am glad I am one of the fortunate ones. Funny, as I'm typing this, I just received another text and my notification alert came on but my screen stayed off.

One thing abut the dialer that bothers me....

The thing that bothers me is when I start typing in a contact's name or number, it only gives me one contact at a time at the top of the list, with a little box to the left of the input area with the rest of the matches.
Coming from the HTC Incredible, it used to show multiple suggestions at the top of the list.
I played with a ONE in Costco a couple days before I received mine in the mail and it had multiple contacts (though none had pics) up top.
Anyone know how to configure it that way? I've been trying to figure it out
I installed exdialer and its sweet!!

Hello, I think I've found what's the problem : it's because of the "incoming PopUp Call notification"
There is a cool feature on Galaxy Note 3, which lets you change the incoming call notification from a full screen notification to a pop up notification. To change the call notification, do as follows:
1. Open Settings and go to Device tab
2. Scroll down and tap Call.
3. Mark "Incoming Call Notifications", so notification pop-ups for incoming voice calls when the screen is on
Glad you figured it out
I can't find it on jt neo though.. are you on jellybean?
