Hi Guys,
I know that there are already tons of topics about this question and I read al lot of them but none of them gave me a answer that satisfied me.
I'm running on my HOX this ruu: RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2
with CID ID HTC__E11 (Lucky me).
As far as I believe I can update to JB according to this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957376
the only problem is that since I ****ed up my HOX once while getting back to stock for the ota update (I was on EternityProject) it cost me 4 hours and way to high blood pressure to fix it. So as you can imagine I'm a bit scared to do it.
The other question is where in the hell does the S stand for in my ruu? It was late when I downloaded the ruu (and flashed it) and since I thought the higher the better and the 401 was the same I went for it.
My HOX is preforming fine now but on tweakers (a Dutch tech site) a person with the same cid did get the update 3-4 days ago and I'm still waiting.
I hope that one of you can help me.
Greetz,
I'mpossible
Yeah, you can update your hboot to 1.31.
From there, you can install Sense based JB ROMs such as ARHD 13.
You might struggle to have AOSP ROMs work correctly after that, though.
To install the official OTA, you just (wait, and then) flash back your 2.17 backup (ROM, boot.img and stock recovery) I'm led to beleive that works.
Oh, if somebody has the 401 JB update, it's because they are on elevate (closed beta test).
I don't know what the 'S' is.

hello,
after having some reception issues with cm6 i decided to go back to stock. i ruud my htc desire (unbranded, AMOLED, CID 102, HBOOT 0.80) and used this one: PB99IMG_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
now i am wondering why i don't get the ota update to 2.2? my phone says there are no updates available..
did i miss something? do i need a goldcard?
Why don't you instead just run the latest released RUU http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.exe
I don't think there is any reason to flash an old version and then wait for OTAs
thanks for your answer!
basically you are right. i just want everything to work properly. i was just wondering, why the update wouldn't work..
moreover, i want to send the phone back to htc for repair, so i wanted to make sure everything is in its original state.
By applying 2.29.405.2 it will be in the original state as this version is the latest official one for your phone.
You bought the phone with 2.1 but you would not stay with an old firmware, would you .
i guess, you win
the thing is, that way the feeling remains something's broken.. but i guess it'll be fine!
Hi I would like to know if there would be a problem if I flash the official rue of an Asian desire z with a european version or vice versa?
I bought my phone second hand and I decided to flash the 1.34.707.1 version into my originally 1.72 desire z. Now my phone cannot find updates. It keeps telling me that there is no update even if check manually.
I know that I can flash a higher version by downloading a higher rue version but what I wanted to find out if I can no longer receive ota updates because of what I did.
Since when I was in 1.72 my phone did not notify me of the 1.82 update too...
I don't know what's wrong.. Please help. Thank you.
I think if you are SuperCID and S-Off, it would work. Otherwise, it won't let you flash the ROM from another region.
Also, if you flash an official ROM, you will lose root, and you can't get it back on any ROM version higher than 1.34. For this reason, if you downgraded to 1.34 for purposes of rooting, you don't want the OTA updates, anyway.
If you're rooted and S-Off, and you want a more updated ROM version, just flash the Virtuous custom ROM. Its mostly stock 1.85, but rooted, and with a few cool added features and some optimizations.
Hi, the thing is I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to rooting. I read the posts here specifically in the wii section and I don't think I have the skills to pull it off and risk bricking my phone.
I think my phone is not rooted or it was before but not anymore, since as mentioned I flashed an official ruu.
So basically, I should still be able to receive OTA's from HTC right? I was wondering why my phone keeps telling me there's no update when the software number is 1.34 stock and not rooted. Shouldn't it notify me that there's an update at least regardless of whether I want to or not?
If you are not rooted, why did you downgrade to 1.34?
I also don't understand why you want to flash the RUU from a different region. If you aren't SuperCID and S-Off it won't work. Why not just flash the latest official RUU for your phone versions/region if you want to be updated and don't care about root?
I'm not sure why your OTA's don't work. I'm still on 1.34 (well, back to it), and I still get notifications to update.

@redpoint73
I bought the phone from a friend of mine. I noticed that it had eng hboot and had s-off.
I have zero knowledge about rooting. When the gingerbread test rom for the desire z came out, I flashed the pc10img.zip via the bootloader, however since it was very buggy and laggy, I decided to flash stock desire z rom.
Having no knowledge about rooting I read some of the threads in this forum and learned that flashing an official rom i.e. the RUU would be the easiest way to return back to stock.
It worked, I am using stock rom. I experimented and found out that I can flash any of the RUU, so I chose any of the WWE release. I decided to flash an older firmware version specifically, the 1.34.707.1.
Now the problem is my phone doesn't prompt me with an update, even after checking in about phone > check for update.
I still have s-off but eng hboot is gone. To clarify I was not the one who rooted the phone, so I have no idea what to do.
Is it possible that the previous owner tweaked something in the phone that would absolutely prevent it from receiving OTA?
I am just worried since I have a feeling that the gingerbread OTA will be released in a few weeks since the update for the Desire HD is already out.
Please help and thank you again. I extremely as a NOOB!

I wouldn't worry about getting the official Gingerbread ROM OTA. It will probably be posted here or at shipped-roms.com long before you would get it OTA.
Hi all,
HOX is my first android phone and I am totally new to Android.
My HOX is still on 1.28.707.10 (still current, no updates for 1.29) and as such I am unsure if ARHD is compatible with it. The ARHD thread shows it is for 1.29 so I kinda conclude that ARHD is out of reach for me. If anyone can clarify, it will be great!
Cheers.
P.S. What exactly does RUU stand for/mean?
Hi alucarde,
You can absolutely use arhd. You would be completely wiping your current version by flashing it, basically replacing a 1.28 stock with a 1.29 arhd.
However the one thing the rom cannot contain is the radio firmware, which can only come from official channels while the phones are s-on. So if you root and flash, you'll be locked into the 1.28 radio firmware until you relock your bootloader. Not a big loss, and definitely worth it for the improvements you get from a root rom. This is why the arhd poat recommends updating to 1.29 before flashing it.
My phones radio is atull stuck at 1.26, since Vodafone au don't seem to have an ruu. Arhd has run fine on it
Btw not sure what ruu stands for, but it's essentially a package that contains the original carrier rom from your phone, and when run from your computer will completely revert you phone back to factory unrooted state. Pretty much the ultimate failsafe.

Hi there, welcome!
Yes it's compatible, it will be upgraded to 1.29 since ARHD is based on 1.29.
Regarding the term RUU : google it and you'll find it quickly.

What they said. It is not 'for' 1.29, it IS 1.29.401.11 with tweaks.
Hi, probably going to sound like a N00b question but I haven't yet found answer that fits.
If I have a HOX that is running v1.26 and I root and ROM to something using v1.29 or anything higher than 1.26 can I use the RUU for 1.26 that fits my CID to revert to stock?
Only reason I ask is that I have already had one HOX that I managed to well and truly kill that my provider has fortunately replaced for me (although they don't yet know it's been unlocked!).
The Mic died after a few days from root and ROM onto RD MIUI, but as I had performed a full wipe I had no stock backup to revert to when I then wanted to get it replaced, and so ended up trying all I could to find the RUU for v1.29 but there was only v1.26 available. So I've had to send back my faulty handset with a different ROM on it.
Just looking to avoid a repeat in the future.
Thanks

It is the hboot you can't downgrade. As far as I can tell, it has been updated with every release of the OTA.
If you root and install a ROM with a newer base, the hboot won't be updated (unless it's a newer stock ROM updated by RUU or OTA) you can still go back to an RUU with the same or newer version you have now.
Hello One X Owners....A question that i would really like to ask....I am from Pakistan...I purchased HTC One X yesterday from the market and was thinking to update it to jelly bean...the phone is imported one, probably of the carrier provider '3 mobile' as it shows its logo upon the boot screen....i just read upon the internet that many people were facing severe problems regarding wifi and usb storage problems mostly after update to jelly bean...and some were having no problems at all after the update...i am really confused to update it or not?
I checked the update and I am receiving one update of 160+mb which as far as i know is to make phone ready for Jelly Bean...the next update will be of 3**mb and that would be of Jelly Bean....so my question is....should I update or not...?does only 160+mb update bring more performance to the phone...should I do that or might be just not install any update...or should I install both updates?
Help would be appreciated...Thanks!
If you are currently on Hboot 1.12 and upgrade to Hboot 1.39 you will not be able to get back to Hboot 1.12.
I think it's a subjective matter, and thankfully you have the choice to update or not. It sounds like you've done your homework, so really it depends on your level of comfort with both the positive and the potentially challenging issues with moving to JB.
In either case, why not take a moment and back it all up CWM for the phone and then Titanium for the data.
Why not go a step further and check out what CID and main version you currently have (fastboot getvar all) and see if anyone who has had problems was able to recover.
Yeah, install all the updates, they improve tho phone. I don't think the problems you saw are due to JB.
Okay...first of all i am going to update my phone with the 160+mb update...furthurmore i dont want any sort of rooting and custom recovery because i have spent a lot of money on it after facing a severe loss upon my previous phone... (Galaxy W)...thanks for the reply guys...
