Why don't you just reboot into recovery and flash the zip?

I an building a rom and want to scrap the stock kernel and replace it with a custom kernel. In other words, I want to pre load a custom kernel into a stock based rom. I want to do this from my pc. Any idea how to do this?

tiny's kernel is recommended for business gingersense rom.
thanks in advance
Wipe your cache and dalvik cache. And install it just as you would a ROM, install from sd > pick file > your kernel

Ill add make a backup of the rom just in case.

That's how 99% of users flash kernels anyways. I usually do as that gives me a zip on my phone to flash back to a different kernel in case of emergency.

and why is this on general?
seriously if u needed to start a thread for this question u shouldnt be flashing

While I agree with why this is here LOL, just find a kernel using the XDA App from the market, go to the beginning of the thread to find download link, then reboot recovery and flash new kernel you just downloaded. Make sure you wipe cache and davlik before flashing. Good Luck.

How to watch install and run flash on jellybean Android OS. That actually works

1. dl flash from here. http://d-h.st/x4v
2. A lot of people try and use chrom snd firefox but your built in browser does the trick.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
How do I choose a kernel what kind type do I choose. Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Here's a start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013/orig-development and http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-7-2013#kernels
fastboot flash boot image_name
or
flash the zip in the recovery
I just installed francos kernel today (my first non-stock kernel), and I supported him by buying his app and using the auto-flash function, but it's easy to do it manually as above, just read the first posts of each of the threads found in that link, they cover it pretty good.
Before doing any flashing though, I recommend you use something like Flashify to backup your stock kernel first though, francos paid app can do this too. And make an nandroid backup using NRT..just in case.
And I am loving francos kernel!
...oh, and read, read, read, make sure you get the right kernel for your hardware!
