prevent e4gt from updating or nagging to update

i am posting something i discovered and it definatly worked for me and am posting to help others who like me had no sucess in using one of those update kill apk's this method i didcovered tested and soo far has rendered sucess for me im not sure if it will prevent future updates after ff18 but it definatly stopped my phone currently running gb from updating or even asking to update to ff8 ics update you must have root
i am not responsible for anyone who screws their phones up this is just something i tried and definatly helped me so i wanted to share
mu phone had already downloaded the update and kept nagging to update every 10 minutes or so when and if you try my method do not delete the ics update that will be found in the search as this method needs the update there and needs it to fail any modifications done to the system such as deleting device managment , debloating ,custom bootloader should all result in a failed update attempt and this is what you want
1st obtain root ofcourse
2nd obtain root explorer or something equivalent
3rd from root explorer on 1st page select menue and do a search for "update"
4th look for file " /data/data/com.sprint.ce.updater/shared_prefs/com.sprint.ce.updater_preferences.xml" you will see retry mode value by defualt it is set to true, change it to false ( if you change any system files such as deleting device managment or running custom bootloader it will fail) you want it to fail , buy changing the true value to false and allowing it to try to update even though you know it will fail it wont come back up with nagging notice to update atleast it worked for me hope helps someone else out there p.s after failed update attempt it may get stuck in bootloader with triangle or something just do battery pull then reboot then voila no more annoying msgs asking to update nearly a week now and no pop ups

Gonna lose it - 4.3 "Security Notice - unauthorized access..."

I searched all yesterday and today and cannot re-root after upgrading from 4.1.2 to 4.3. I always do a ton of searchs no matter what forum I'm on because I don't want to seem lazy like some others out there but this is beyond me. I registered so I could make a thread and this is what I have and the situation:
Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-R530U
US Cellular
upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3
kernel 3.031-2025306 [email protected] #1
baseband version R30UVXUBMJA
build number JSS15J.R530UVXUBMJA
SE for Android status Enforcing SEPF_SCH-530U_4.3_0010
hardware version R530U.01
Previously rooted using Odin, SuperSU, Titanium Backup Pro, ODIN_CWM6.tar.md5
I took the phone back to stock using unroot through SuperSU and upgraded from 4.1.2 to 4.3 OTA with no problems. I've been trying to re-root using numerous combinations (ODIN3 v3.07) and no matter what I do the Samsung Security notice blocks rights to SuperSU (beta v1.76) and Titanium Backup Pro so it won't root. This is the message I get:
"Security notice - unauthorized access to a secured area has been blocked. Tap to learn more."
The most recent md5 file I've tried is CF-Auto-Root-d2usc-d2usc-schr530u.tar.md5 but nothing else has worked either. I'm at my wits end and my brain is about ready to explode. I just need to be able to access Titanium Backup Pro so I can shut off a few programs and processes. Any help is VERY VERY much appreciated. Thanks!!!!!
TTT for some help please.

I have same phone. Recently went to Slimbean (4.3.1). I have Triangle Away and it couldn't access root. I also used CF-Auto-Root. Used a root check app, it says I am rooted. Odin also said device passed. Super User says I am missing a binary and I need to root manually. Trying to find that info
If you find anything out please let me know. A root checker says I'm rooted but I can't access SuperSU or Titanium backup as the S3 is blocking it.
Did you get the Slimbean 4.3.1 for USCC and if so where?
There was just a new SuperSU update and it granted me access to everything. I asked if I wanted it to disable KNOX and I said yes. Titanium Backup works and so does Triangle Away. I think I'm good to go.
How did you update?

How did you update to 4.3? Did you use the simple update you can download to computer, or did you use Kies? I'm not having any luck with either. I chatted twice with a Samsung Tech person, but neither one had any help for me. Just thought I'd check to see if you could help me. It's not easy finding someone else on here with US Cellular. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I tried to download the simple update but my phone wouldn't update to the 4.3 so I did it over the air. You probably know but the OTA software update is in "about device." We have four S3s in our home and only one of them hasn't been able to get the download OTA yet. The only bug that I've found is when you start the phone it will show numerous downloads in the notifications and they will come back even if you clear them. The way to get rid of them is to go to the download icon (green arrow) and clear all the downloads and restart. Hope this helps.

I have downloaded the simple update, but get an error msg while trying to install to computer. (1152: error extracting) whatever that means. I uninstalled all Samsung anything from my computer, restarted, shut off firewall & Norton, downloaded again, but same thing while trying to install to computer. I updated to 4.1.2 this way, but keep getting an error on 4.3 update.
I tried to go through Kies. It updated Kies to 2.6, it said Kies3 was for 4.3. When I tried to hook into Kies, it refuses to accept my IMEI #. Says its incorrect. wth. The Samsung Chat Tech told me USCellular 4.3 update wasn't available yet through Kies OTA.
When I tried to get the 4.1.2 update through the phone, it would never give it to me. Even though I unrooted and used Triangle Away, it still knew my sg3 was modified. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Do you have any suggestions ? I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to these phones.
I'm sorry to bother you with this, but it's rare to find someone with USCellular on here. Thank you so much for your time.
I got the error message too so something is wrong with the download from Samsung/USCC. Just keep trying to do the OTA update and maybe it will go through. My GUESS is that Samsung and USCC stopped doing the update because of a couple bugs or issues. The reason I say that is I updated mine one day (worked), my wife's the next (worked), my son's the next days later (worked) and tried my other son's a couple days later and no update for him. I unrooted mine before the update without doing triangle away so I don't know if that really has anything to do with it at all. However, it does have to be unrooted if you do the OTA. Good luck!
I used Triangle Away, then unrooted. My phone still says 'modified' even though counter no longer says 2. When I try OTA through the phone, it constantly sticks on 'checking for updates'. I'm sure it's because it still says modified. I tried using Kies, my phone will not connect. Keeps saying my s/n is incorrect. I understand my IMEI has been corrupted.
I have started a thread on here for some help in how to get the 4.3 update.
Thank you so much for trying to help me. I will be eligible for an upgrade soon. I just may have to wait to have anything more than 4.1.2.
Again, thank you.

it looks to me like samsung are finally making a stand against rooting although i do not agree with this as i use an app called freedom and when i open it i get a security issue from Samsung
The only reason i left iphone for samsung was because i felt like they had something other apple with hardware and i was happy to do this as i could get root access but for now i see that this might not be possible for a while.
i recommend installing a normal superuser.apk and that might work but i cannot check this right now as i am out
i hope this little bit of information did help in anyway

Help with Tmobile S3 T999

First I want to apologize for posting again couldnt figure out how to upload picture, As I stated my friend rooted his phone and then installed wrong rom. Installed
Rom for lte version, then he had issues with efs file and someone edited them and fixed them, now this image I attachedis stuck on screen, wondering if I unroot and go back to stock will that fix issue that I have shown on attachment, thank you any help is appreciated
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Free mobile app
just shooting from the hip here, you don't have a backup of your previous rom? if you do, and can still get to recovery, I'd wipe everything and flash that. Baring that, you could TRY to unroot it, but I wouldn't guarantee anything. Maybe someone else has better info than me
Yea he didn't do a back up, smh, so he attempted to unroot last night and he tried flashing stock 4.3 but Odin gave him a failed. Then asked him what android version he was previously on and he says maybe 4.2 or 4.3 now phone is saying connect to lies and run recovery and still can get to download mode, told him I will try to fix it and leave it alone, any help would be appreciated on what stock rom I should flash
try kies, there is an option for "emergency recovery", then just reroot
Do I need to put phone download mode and run recovery in kies? also to go back to stock which stock rom do i flash?

also when i turn the phone on and put it into download mode this is what i have on top left corner
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:SGH-T999
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: no
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung official
SYSTEM STATUS: none
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
You don't need to be in odin mode to use Kies, but since you can put the phone in odin mode, go to samfirmware and download the latest firmware, then flash it. You still might have to fix the EFS though.
ok cool thank you,, ok i flashed stock rom, everything went good, but i am stil having that image on screen still, which i attached earlier, any help on how to remove that image on screen? will rooting the device and flashing rom remove that image from screen?

So is this what you did?
su
echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
Are you absolutely certain you typed it in correctly? What did it say after you entered the command?
You said the folder is empty, did you actually look at the /efs folder and it was empty??? If so, I'm not sure if theres much you can do tbh. There is device specific information there so it is unique for every device. You might be able to get some stuff back (non-unique type things), but I don't know about the rest.....DRM keys and more.....
If the folder is empty, how did you determine this? What app did you use to check it out?
You said you flashed your firmware via Odin right? Not Mobile Odin? Big difference so i just want to make sure.
It would be a big help if you could elaborate on your OP. What exactly did he flash, and how did he flash it? What was the original problem? What were the efs issues you eluded to? And more importantly what did someone edit and supposedly fix?
The only problem I have ever seen related to the efs on this device is the one you originally posted about, the FactoryMode window. Aside from that very rare issue, I have never seen any problem with the efs on the Qualcomm S3's. Many people automatically go there because OTHER devices store different information there and they expect it to be the exact same for some reason. Anyway, what I am trying to say here, is other than getting rid of FactoryMode, I can't think of anything else anyone would need to touch on that partition. This is why it is very important to know what the other person "fixed", and how.
In the meantime, go to Settings > About Device > Status, and verify the IMEI is there and that it matches the one printed on the sticker under the battery. (Am I correct in guessing all of this started with some sort of IMEI issue?) If the IMEI is anything but correct (missing, zeroed, incorrect, etc), PM me directly. Do not worry about posting again until we solve that. Chances are, if the IMEI is the problem, fixing it will solve the rest too. Unfortunately, we are not allowed to post, link or discuss that in the public forum, so I can only help via PM if that is the problem.

Note 4 has became rooted someway

So I never really wanted to root my note 4, plan on getting rid of it in jan anyway, so I downloaded a battery repair app that said nothing about being rooted, and after attempting to run it, it somehow rooted or attempted to root my note 4, so now when I try to update it, it just fails, it works fine but I would like to be at a stock firmware when ever I factory reset it and sell it? Any clues on how to fix this, it has no type of recovery mode on it unless the app installed something.....Ps I work nights so I probably wont be able to respond to any question for the next 9 or 10 hours, ill check back on this when I get off tonight

First, all battery repair apps are hoaxes. You can do a repair, itll find something wrong, fix ig, then say everything is ok from then on. But when you uninstall and reinsrall the app, or just clear the app cache and data, itll suddenly find battery problems again.
Also, it is impossible to repair a battery via software alone. If a battery needs to be repaired, it must be removed and replaced. You cant scan a battery with software and magically fix it like a harddrive.
The app cant root your phone since our bootloader is locked. If it was as simple as installing an app to gain root, we wouldve done it long ago. This also means it isnt the cause behind you not being able to update. Why you cant uodate is unclear since you didnt provide the info needed to determine that. If you arent using an att sim, then tgat would be why. If the update downloads but wont install, then you need at least 6-8GB of free space on internal sd. Other reasons could be possible too.
If tge app itself is unable to uninstall, then its because you granted it Admin privileges, whuch has nothing to do with root. All youd need to do is remove the privilege in system settings then uninstall the app.

This is Probably A Long Shot...(AT&T SGH-I467)

I've tried searching around here for an answer, but I haven't really been able to find anything solid regarding the issue that I'm experiencing. The other day I popped my sim card into my sgh-i467, as I do from time to time, to check for any OTA updates. This device is usually mounted in my vehicle, so I don't regularly check for updates. Sure enough, an OTA update was available. Tablet was at maximum charge, so I went ahead and chose to do the update. Unfortunately, the update failed at around 93% and went into a boot loop. There was nothing crucial on the device, so I figured it'd be no big deal to just re-flash the firmware if need be. However, I can only seem to find a KIES image for 4.1.2, and while I didn't think to verify exactly what version I was on before the bootloop/brick, I'm fairly certain I was on 4.2.xx.
From what I understand, the bootloader updates with 4.4, correct? With the bootloader getting updated, downgrading to 4.1.2 isn't possible or feasible, right? I didn't think to confirm this before I attempted to flash the KIES image for 4.1.2 via odin (kies never seems to actually see my device), which fails every attempt. I was originally able to get into recovery, but I kept seeing that /system wasn't found. I'm assuming that the OTA update partially installed, before failing, and either corrupted the partition scheme or updated the bootloader but not the system?
I'm dead in the water at this point, and AT&T is obviously no help. Plus, I don't the device on contract with them anyway, so I'm starting to think that my only option is to contact Samsung. However, I really don't want to have to send the unit in, and given it's age, I don't think it's worth investing anything in it if the repair isn't covered somehow. Plus I enjoy tinkering, I'm not new to the scene, and I'd really like to come up with a solution that doesn't require Samsung.
I don't suppose any kind people out there have any suggestions, similar experiences, etc. do they? I'd really like to hear from anyone who's got something to offer! Thanks in advance for your help!

You need to upgrade to keis 3.0 and reboot, then start kies, then boot note into download mode and have kies detect and reload the update.
Too bad you let the Note update to Kit Kat, Jellybean is better, on the LTE Note.

Thank you very much for the information! Unfortunately, I've tried Kies 3.0. It notifies me that my device isn't compatible with Kies 3.0. With the other version of Kies, 2.6 maybe(?), it never ends up being able to connect. I've tried manual initialization, but when after I enter my model number, it won't accept my serial.
Take it to a BEST BUY with a Samsung Experience Center (Kiosk (Most all of them in larger cities have them) and they will fix your SGH-i467 for free. I did almost the same exact thing as you (trying to solve a EFS problem) and was stuck. I have posted about it on here before. They will not charge you BUT you may run into a clueless rep now and then. If you do, ask them to call for help and they will get you fixed up in a hurry. Hope this helps.
