APN's - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

I am on Virgin Mobile in Canada and My plan does not include any data only mms. I set up my APN's for virgin mms but it will not send, For me to send messages I need data apn with data on. Is there any way to have mms set up without getting charged for data? Or a way to stop your phone from using data and only using wifi but keeping data on for mms?

Or any way to stop all apps from using data so I do not get charged for data while keeping data on?

[Q] AT&T MMS billing problems anyone?

I've recently upgraded two of the lines in my family plan to Galaxy S3s on AT&T and have noticed something frustrating. All my outgoing MMS work and show up as MMS on the usage bill online....However, any MMS I receive have been billed as data and count towards my monthly tiered limit. I've double checked and cross-referenced timestamps and it is definitely the receiving of MMS that shows up as Internet/MEdianet usage. Both phones are doing this I've contacted AT&T and they said it might resolve itself after a billing cycle and took off and re-added the LTE data plan (still didn't help). I'm wondering if anyone of you out there have had a similar experience after upgrading to LTE data tiered data plan w/ the S3. TIA
Mms (pic/video message) uses data. Sms (text message) does not. Ur bill is correct.

Before this smart phone data plan BS started, messaging (SMS/MMS) was messaging and they didnt charge for data but a message charge. This is BS. My wife doesn't have a smart phone or uses data at all and now she can't get MMS without data plan.
What a bunch of horse poop!
MMS messages do not count as data. it does thru a different port than your regular data. so you need to check you mms setting on your phone! I just spoke to ATT rep today and they confirmed that mms is not chargeable data. just counts as messaging

This is exactly opposite of what they told me. And I HAD to get a data plan for my wife to receive MMS. They charge twice for the same thing (MMS and data) I think, I will have to see next months bill.
I know for the longest it wasnt required to have a data plan for mms. Since phones started to evolve over the years you needed data for mms.
It has always been required to have a data plan for MMS. MMS data charges where never listed on the bill and now they are.

[Q] No Data Plan

I have been the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus for a few months now. I am using T-mobile with no data plan since I have wi-fi access almost everywhere. The only problem I have is MMS. Because I leave my data off to avoid unwanted charges, I cannot receive the occasional picture that people try to send me. I have talked to T-Mobile several times, and no one wants to help me because I have a device that was not purchased on contract. I have heard of apps like Droidwall, but I would rather not root.
Yesterday, I was experimenting with my APN settings and changed APN type to only MMS. This may be the solution I have been looking for. I was able to receive MMS when I enabled data, but Chrome would not even try to load a page because it could not find a connection. The Data Usage page in Settings showed the only apps using data as Messaging and Android OS. As far as I know, messaging is not going to run up charges since I have unlimited messaging. It is the OS process that concerns me. So far, I have not gotten any charges for data, but I haven't left the connection open for more than a few minutes. Has anyone tried this, and if so, was it a good solution to the classic "no data plan" problem?
Just make a separate APN called "mms" with your MMS information in it, and under "APN Type" you make it "MMS".

automatically turn on mobile data when send or recieve mms

I use Textra as my default texting app..n it has option in the setting to automatically turn on the mobile data whenever I send or recieve mms. Now I get me mms messages on time cuz I keep my mobile data off when im using wifi.. n this app got lot more features n still very fast n simple..
This is a recoomended app for those who got limited data plans n keep their data off most of the time..n if u use this app u would never be late to reply to mms texts cuz ur data was off without ur knowledge..!!!!
If only there was an app that fixes your spelling
Whoops, wrong thread.

No mms on 6.0 or 6.0.1

OK Nexus 5x users. I have searched the web, I've searched the forum, I've searched everywhere I possibly can think of and still can't find a solution. I am on AT&T. I had an iPhone 6s before I bought my Nexus 5x, But from day one I'm not able to receive MMS messages consistently. Everything over 160 characters I don't get. I've tried everything I possibly can find, to no avail. I've messed with APN's, I don't have push bullet installed, I don't have any other text messaging app installed. I still have my iPhone 6s, and I've gone in and disabled face time as well as iMessage and iCloud, so on and so on and so on. I've even tried multiple text messaging apps just to see if that would help. I've installed two different operating systems, however both of them are based on 6.0 .1. For what ever reason no matter what I try no matter what I mess with I can't get any text message that are 161 characters or more to come through. When I reset phone to stock, I can get them to come through for about one minute and then I no longer can get them. I don't install any other apps and they just stop coming through. If I put my Sim card back in the iPhone 6s and make a few texts and then disable iMessage and FaceTime and iCloud again, I can get MMS messages for about one minute and then they stop coming through again. I can send MMS messages just fine I just can't receive them. I see multiple posts on the Internet about this issue with marshmallow. It seems like everybody is able to solve it, "but me". Does anybody on this forum have any idea what I can do to solve this issue?

sorry, are you on custom rom or stock now?
I was having mms issues in verizon. Incoming Mms were delayed for days. None of the recommended apn settings helped, switching between messenger and hangouts saw no change, turning wifi on and off, etc.
I set the apn to restore defaults and now it seems to work, when mobile data is on. Doesnt work when just wifi is on.
Question, is mms over wifi even a feature on Verizon? My Galaxy S4 did not send or receive mms if mobile data was off, one annoying feature because I usually just leave wifi on when home.
But then through some verizon update i could send and receive mms with mobile data disabled, I think it would switch mobile data on momentarily when an mms was incoming or outgoing.
So is there a way to get mms to work with mobile data off on the 5X on verizon?

My 5X does not send mms with mobile data turned off. My S3 was exactly the save before this phone. I'm on Verizon, stock rooted with Ex kernel installed. This didn't work on stock OOTB either. I get notifications if I receive mms and I just turn on my data at that point to download them, if it isn't enabled.

Since you are coming from the iPhone...I wonder if you have to de-register your number from imessages server?

I can send mms over wifi, but mms sent to me I have to turn data on to download.

Is there in issue going on? I reset the network settings.
I can send an MMS over wifi with no issue, but when someone sends me an MMS I have to turn my data on to receive it.
Anybody know what the deal is?
On xfinity mobile if that matters.
