link2sd? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi just got this phone today and it's awesome.
i am rooted but got a locked bootloader so without changing roms, is link2sd the best and easiest way to get more storage on this phone? if not what are the other ways? thanks

I tried link2sd. It wouldn't let me do it with my locked bootloader. Leads me to believe that you need an unlocked bootloader.

obviously remove bloatware is the first step but link to sd can still force move some apps to sd which is useful for more internal storage I have locked bootloader as well but use dixperia 2 which us awesome and cache cleaner but I'm just stating the obvious choices apart from link to sd I so that use the partition thing and have over 200 apps and have 179 mb free on internal =D

You dont need unlocked bootloader. I am on stock rom with locked bootloader and rooted and link2d works a treat for me.
As ILikeTheWayYouMove2 said you remove all the bloatware from the phone and it frees up so much space. I have pretty much everything linked now and new apps are linked automatically.

Ext4 > Ext3 > Ext2, unless you get compatibility issues.

I don't get it, thought. I keep getting "Mount script cannot be created". When I go to the FAQ, it tells me that error happens when you have a locked bootloader.
I have the R800X. Maybe that's a difference too.

You can't create another partition with locked bootloader, but you can use the native app2sd method and force all apps to go on SD.

I get the mount script failed but when I select fat32 / fat16 it works?

i think u should have the init.d in your system/etc/...first,then link2sd can create the mount script (ext2-4)
correct me if i am wrong...

[Q] Memory problem

I try apps2sd but it doesnt working.
first I have 900mb free on SD,and 7mb free on internal memory.
If I try to move apps from phone there isnt any apps that can be moved on SD
So I can install some bigger apps or widgets. Please someone help
I dont have rooted phone so i cant move all apps to my SD
p.s.Sorry for my english
because dont have root, same apk isn't move to sdcard
But how can I than get free space
You have to have root. You can try deleting the cache of apps you don't use much. But without root, that's about all you can do.

you can try out this tutorial here:

Its a way to enable apps2sd for all apps and does not require root. Just don't move widgets to sd because they will not work
And thanks if it helped =D
Root your htc then install data 2 sd and link 2 sd These two apps will do it But remember after rooting u wont be able to update your firmware.
Thank you guys. But I dont know how to root. And im afraid that im going to brick it if I try.

just place the root.zip into the root of your sd card. Then in clockworkmod recovery, press choose zip from sd card, then click yes to the root.zip file. It should be rooted after that. Its very simple.
But you can also use the other tool where you click 1 to prep device and 3 to root or something like that.
Remember to thanks if it helped =D

Rooting is nowhere near the problem it used to be. You can safely root using the method described. Just follow the instructions carefully.

The tool you are probably referring to is the HTC Super Tool.

/system fs full

Hi everybody,
I create this thread to clarify some points. As you could check I have created another thread to root my GIO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087678 without any success
After so many testings I have discovered /system filesystem is full, this fs is only 208MB so I rooting packages cannot any file in /system
Could somebody help me to free space in this filesystem?
Thanks,
fsosson
I assume, stock rom & firmware?
The only thing I can imagine at at the moment would be a complete erase & reflash with Odin so that there would be enough memory in /system for installing the root-exploit.
Installing the root-exploit was the first thing I've done.
Did you check your free space on /system? Is it really full?

Yes I did check using the df command in a terminal app, 208MB used of 208MB
I have removed all application not located on my SD but it did not free space in /system

I've been faster than expected, I pushed the latest rom available on sammobile then rooted it successfully, at this time the phone worked fine.
Then, I used CWM recovery to push cyanogenmod cm-10-20121204-UNOFFICIAL-gio.zip but from this time the phone does not boot:crying: then I pushed pIcm-10.1-20130111-UNOFFICIAL-gio.zip with no more luck :crying:
Can someone help me to get my phone working?

Hm, let me guess: "Encryption failed"? Got the same when upgrading from Samsung firmware to CMx. Forgot to do a ext4-format of the partitions But glad to hear that you've got it working

I think it erases your /data folder partion for built-in safety reasons. Nothing else.

I unlocked my bootloader using the official site and it doesn't format your SD card.
Back it up anyway It does hard reset your phone.

No, it doesn't.

It doesn't erase external memory, it only erases saved data on internal flash memory. You can always remove sd card and don't care about this.

You NEED to do full root. Any attempt to edit the /system partition with a half root will cause the phone to reboot.

There is no recovery menu for a locked bootloader. The only recovery is for an unlocked bootloader. If you mess up your phone at any time you better hope you can boot into flash mode and then re-flash the /system partition. I have the same problem in all fairness.
And if you want to root properly just look at the guide in the forum and follow it to the letter.

I'm sure it was on here somewhere. I've never swapped memories so I don't actually know what works and what doesn't. It may have just been a mis-read on my end however.
