Draw on saved pictures - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

has anyone here figured out how to draw on saved pictures in the gallery? Every time I do it flips the picture around and greys it out.
I havent been able to find a way to draw on the actual picture itself. I swear I saw something on the original note that let you do that .. but it had a lot of editing options .. not sure if the Note II has that or not.

Two ways:
1. Cut the picture from the screen by pressing the pen button and lassoing the image. Then you can insert it from the clipboard on a note.
2. Press the pen button, tap and hold on the screen to take a screenshot

If you go to s note and select idea sketch then the plus sign top right and select idea note...then top rightish of that there is a button that looks like a picture which is an insert menu...you can select images then gallery...and pick the picture you want to draw on.
At the end you have to save it as a jpg file.
I figured it out some way with this method and managed to draw on a pic of one of my cats and put it on Facebook but it seems like there should be something easier.
I don't understand the flip over/grey out thing it does if you do it through gallery either. I guess i need to do some reading somewhere to learn how to use this thing!

the write on drawing where it flips and grays out is meant to be just like a physical photo, u flip it around and write notes on the back (date, place, people, occasion, etc)

on any image from gallery, click menu, advanced editing, photo editor. If you don't have it installed, you will get the prompt to install it. then click decoration, then drawing, done.
It does take 5 clicks, but works for me better than taking a screen shot every time.

[How to] Enable on screen buttons

Samsung should have made the capacitive buttons work with the s pen. I have a few times tried hitting them with the pen only to feel like a idiot.
I am not 100% on where I found this, but with a easy build.prop edit you can enable the on screen buttons so that you can use the s pen.
I'm not responsible for what happens and all the usual disclaimers, and have a back up.
Using a root explorer app, go to system and long press on build.prop to select text editor.
At the bottom, add (without quotes) this line:
"qemu.hw.mainkeys=0"
And to turn them off, change it to:
"qemu.hw.mainkeys=1"
Or simply delete what you orginally added.
Enjoy!

I added this line to my build.prop, rebooted, and it didn't work. I'm not new to editing build.prop, the line is without quotes, and I double checked the syntax. I'm using Nova, but I presume that should not matter. Any ideas? Thanks for sharing this...

I was about to post the same, after seeing entries from the rest of the file. It worked! Thank you. Coming from AOKP, this is a great addition.
I do notice that the menu button is missing when the home screen is showing. Any way to get that back? My plan is to turn off the hardware buttons altogether. Cheers.

The quick answer for the menu soft key is Google disabled it. Apps should have a menu button in the UI, and when it doesn't is when it shows in the soft keys.
It can be made where it is always there, but it takes a ton of coding and would require it to be done for each themed ROM. I might mess with it one day, but it doesn't seem worthwhile as it knows when to enable the menu soft key.
Sorry, but if I do it, it would be for my own ROM. It's hard enough to have time to work on that, let alone touch others to enable something that many wouldn't use
sent from my awesomely huge Note II
This isn't necessary
Just draw a "^" or a "<" anywhere on th screen (pressing the spen button) and it will either bring the menu or take you back, just as the capacitive buttons. Its explained on the spen help section on the settings.

I could resize it so the icons are smaller, but again that requires a framework edit. I would have to do it for every themed rom, or I need a morph zip. If someone knew how to make a morph zip, that would be the easiest way.

Background EDIT Requests

Hey everyone,
I have been with XDA for some time now. Helped out here and there on threads and what not.
I am starting this thread to take requests for people wanting a background edited or changed up. This includes color changing, adding/removing objects, etc.
I can make some from scratch BUT I am not gonna start doing this right now (enough request and I may start a thread for that).
REQUEST RULES!!!!
1. Post original image and link to image. (Link to original image if possible. This is important!!!)
2. Explain in detail what you want changed.
3. Static or Scrolling?
4. PATIENCE! lol
I will upload files to my Photobucket account. Just click the thumbnail of the picture you want to try and it will open in a new page. Then from Photobucket, click "Options" to the top-right of the picture and choose download.
Other than that. Happy posting! :highfive:
Thanks Button Goes A Long Way
EXAMPLE: Here is a photo I did for Sideous. His request was to get rid of the rainbow ring and make the ring blue.

And if you make your own creation with it including the cherry wood color and holo/jelly bean/ICS blue I'd like to see that too.

Let me know if this is to red or to bright. I can de-saturate and/or make it darker. I also shrank the file to 50% of it's overall size and made it 300dpi vs 72dpi... HD in a sense lol
CHERRY WOOD
ICS BLUE
Didn't want to quote you to avoid reposting pictures... I like both... the cherry is a little bright but is there anyway to combine the 2 uniquely because those colors really pop out together... forgive me if I'm being a pain in the butt...I also have done Photoshop for a long time 14 years or so but never dove into much else besides human photo retouching and business logos. Don't stress yourself and you can leave it at the same size as the original file as my DPI is set to 192 in tablet mode on Paranoid right now and I love the extra room the original file shows amazing definition even in 72 DPI...the ones you uploaded seem pixelated but that could be my stupid self not viewing in browser but rather the xda premium app. I know that's been a problem for me before but again don't stress yourself out over it. If I have to stick with the plain cherry wood I will I'm not too picky

Try this one.

SPen command gestures.

I absolutely love my SPen and would really be lost without it. But for those of you who are not following the other thread about this subject it has been learned that there are some gestures you can do while holding down the SPen button. So while holding down the button and drawing a line up the left side it will bring up a search command prompt to search within the app you are currently using. Also if you hold it down and draw a ^ it will bring up the Menu. And if you draw a < it will go back just like the back button. Some of you may have already known this but I didn't and thought I would let everyone know what has been found. All credit for this find goes to budde2 because he is the one who told me about this.

you can go to the settings - "S Pen / Quick Command settings" and add more. I added the last one in this picture just as a test...
Or off you don't feel like making your own this app is actually pretty effin sweet ...I use the one made for touch not the spen but it definitely gives you alot more features than using the native quick commands option too...not sure off there's a lite version for this but there is one for the touch version.

... unless I missed that in the instructions

I've actually been hitting the home button with it very easily. They probably thought we didn't need a gesture for that reason.

I thought about that but the tip "gives" a little and I didn't want to mess up the tip.
I guess there is no around having to actually use my finger!

You don't really need to press it that hard. I do it all the time.

(Request)S View Window Customizations?

So as the title states I'm wondering if this would be difficult. Basically I would like the option to be able to use more or all apps in the S View Window as well as change background, live wallpapers etc. I will be looking into devoting this sort of feature on my own so anyone that wants to chime in on the subject I.e. difficulry or advice on where to start, would be great. Or if someone has already started working on something like this let me know . I think this could make this device even more awesome than it already is.

This has already been done! It's an app called pen window manager. Search for it by name and you will find it. I might however be mixing up what the pen window is and what the s view window is. If the s view window is the semi circle window that pops up when you pull out your stylus, then I am absolutely mistaken.

I think he means the sview window for those that bought the sview cover from Samsung. Right now its only limited to camera, music, n action memo.

Absolutely wrong on both assessments. The S-View window is the area that shows up in the opening of the S-View cover.
Yeah, I'd love to be able to change the music app to Google Music and add a couple of more windows.

work in progess. Picking thru the LG G2 code to see how they did it. The options are not much, but the G2 has some cool window view functions. BUT they are not really that cool. just being able to change the clock and a couple other features. I wouldn't hold my breath on more functions until a port of the G2 stuff is figured out.
Nice, wasn't expecting too much but just maybe some kind of theming or like you said some weather app mods. Maybe add a widget or 2

as far as the apps mods, that will come later. have to take the OG apps and recode them. That's something else altogether.

I just noticed in this pic there are 3 windows?/ Anybody have any idea how that's possible. I have 2 windows. CLock and weather, Music/camera/memo screen.
There's no option to add more stuff on the Sview menu. This is going to def take alot of looking into .

The third (on the left) only happens/is visible when you have missed calls/texts.
Hi there,
Is there anything new on this topic ?
I really would enjoy being able to develop a video player or any other app as a "s view window widget". I am new to the Android programming world, does Samsung offer any API that can be used ?
Thanks
