Last two days my battery hasn't lasted 8hrs, CM10 Jellybean, Rooted. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So ok the weirdest thing has started happening with my phone, for some reason it will not hold a full charge for more then 8 hours now, and I havent changed anything recently. The phone is rooted and running an older CM10 nightly build from about the third week of October, it seemed 100% stable to me and I had absolutely no issues, in fact my battery life had increased over the TouchWiz system that was on it. I was getting on average 17 hours out of my battery after installing CM10 compared to the 13-15 on TouchWiz. I am religious with killing of random tasks with ES Task Killer and making sure I don't have straggler apps continuously running; however I had no avail today, my battery is sitting at 8% after 7hours and 40 minutes. When I checked my battery status the top two drains were the Screen which had an on-time of 26 minutes and then cell standby at 7 hours 40 minutes. After that it was just your random system apps that have to run as I really haven't used my phone at all today just to see, sure enough Idle it can't hold a charge.

Your idle seems to be horrible, something must be running in the background. If you press the menu button and go to manage apps, see what apps are running. With only 26 minutes of onscreen in a 7hr period I would expect at least 75-80% left.

You have BetterBatteryStats or Elixir? Those could help identify the problem.

What kernel are you running? Install better battery stats. You can find it on xda for free that should tell you if your phone is going into deep sleep when screen is off. You shouldn't need a task killer either seeing how most aosp kernels are optimized to manage ram.

When I started to notice bad battery life I just started shutting the phone off when i had to charge it, it seemed to correct my issue.

Extreme Battery Drain Issue

When I woke up this morning, I turned off my phone and after it booted up I unplugged it, because I wanted to get a realistic idea of it's battery life (it's been fluctuation on me). It was at 100% I'm reading at 19% now, I have an Up time of 3:12:00 and an Awake time of 2:44:16 (I have been using it pretty constantly, so the awake time doesn't worry me too much). This is obviously ridiculous, this could possibly die in less than 3 & 1/2 to 4 hours. Battery use is: Android System: 58%, Display: 17%, Cell standby: 14%, Everlands Lite: 6%, Phone idle: 3%, android.process.acore: 2%. I just downloaded Everlands today and played it a lot, but with that low of a percent it can't possibly be an issue. I'm running Damage Control v3.2, and I'll post the DConfig in the next post.

Please, any explanation for why my battery drain has suddenly jumped up so much would be greatly appreciated!
did your battery suddenly start dying quick? mine will last all day ONLY if i leave it alone all day, no calls or anything. If I use it minimally i get about half a day and if I have heavy usage on it then I get about 4 hours or so.
Prior Battery Life
I was able to go about 17 hours off the charger once without holding back on my usage at all, and that wasn't a huge outlier. Seriously, I know I've been able to get at LEAST 12 hours out of it streaming Pandora for an hour plus lots of texting, twitter, facebook, web browsing, and even moderate GPS usage.
I think other battery threads would be more useful if they included Awake time more often, because obviously I am not having a problem with it not going to sleep (since I was actually using the thing almost the entire time I had it off the charger).
You may actually have a bad battery. Mine gets unplugged at 6am, has a 30 min charge at 8pm on my way home in the car, then plugged in at 11:30 or 12 with 40% left.
The only thing I have done is kill most of the widgets, use a static background and that is about it.
you might have a bad battery, or maybe it was just something for that time. if it keeps happening, go back to sprint and they'll probably give you another battery or even phone (assuming they have them in stock)
Battery Defect?
I tried the method that one user supposedly learned from HTC ( I can't post a link but it's titled "Official response from HTC RE: How to double battery Life (WORKS!) + 2nd Reply" ), and I'm not sure I've gotten the same battery life out of it since that happened. I just got it charged back up to 100% now, I'm going to try upgrading to Damage Control v3.2.2.1 and I'll throw it into the Power Save mode in the DConfig, then see how long it lasts.

[Q] What am I doing wrong Kernel/ROM Battery life

Hey all,
I must have something going badly wrong..... I fully charged the phone over night, When I left my house this morning I unplugged the charger, booted the phone in recovery and wiped the battery stats, and the booted it as normal.
I have hardly used the phone all day. Wifi has been off almost the whole time. I have made a couple calls, total no more than a couple minutes. Sent and received 3 texts each way. Spent about 5-6 minutes browsing the internet using mobile network. Had it connected to Bluetooth on the car for about 90minutes. 12 hours later and I have this since it was last charged:
I tried to post screenshot but my post count is too low :-(
Anyways, this is what it said:
15 percent battery left
11 hrs 39min 43 seconds on battery
Screen 57%
Android OS 22%
Phone idle 6%
Voice calls 4%
Cell standby 4%
Browser 3%
Android system 3%
Media server 2%
I was expecting better, but maybe I am expecting too much... I am running Liquid Rom 1.2 along with the latest Popcorn Kernel. The kernel is set at max-1420 min 350 using the aggressive governor. I have tried to set the ROM so it will Fastcharge, but it won't work. It says it is OFF: USB is in normal MTS mode..... how do I fix that?
I like to be able to use my phone a lot. Today I used my phone a lot less than I do usually. Normally I do a lot of browsing. I almost always have a power source close by, but I had to wait a couple hours at the doctors the other day and I ended up almost running the phone flat just from browsing the net! So after that I decided I needed to really do some looking into what setup will work the best for battery life, but also run nice and fast and smooth when I don't have to worry about battery life.
Any thoughts on what I should do would be appreciated. If I need to supply more info for you to help me, please let me know.
Thanks

Install CPU spy and Better Battery Stats. With CPU Spy you can see in what state your CPU is and if your phone goes to Deep Sleep.
With Better Battery Stats you can see what is keeping your phone awake.
That is the best suggestion. Als: Your screen is taking up 57 % (now that on it's own isn't that strange) but if you click that: How much time was it actualy on? And what brightness do you use?

Help diagnosing poor battery performance

Hi all,
I've had for the past couple of months some pretty dire battery life on my phone and I'm unsure as to what exactly it is thats causing it.
A couple of months ago I was on the Modaco custom ROM, i think it was version ir8, and I was able to use my phone lightly during the day from 7am every now and then, and by the end of the day say around 10pm id still have at least 60% left. At the time the longest i went without a charge was about 2 days and maybe 4-6 hours. I can't remember exactly.
Anyway, I updated the rom a couple of times, and things have never been the same. I tried reverting to the older version but things were still bad. I also tried a different rom (AOKP) which im still on now, but still things are not right.
Right now after ~14 hours on battery I have 45% left, and this is actually a good day...usually with similar use id be lucky to have 20% remaining by now. I'm unable to post images it seems. I wanted to post an image showing 63% battery, 9 hours 49 mins. Android OS > 28%, screen > 26%, phone idle > 17%, mobile stand by > 12 %, maps > 5%, wifi > 3%
Up until I noticed my battery life going down the drain I never noticed the android os using up much battery, but maybe I just wasn't looking for anything. It doesnt seem right to me however....
What steps can I take to properly figure out where the problem lies?
For reference I'm on the AOKP ROM build 40, and franco kernel milestone 4 on GSM Galaxy Nexus. Any other info needed?
Calibrate the battery. Charge full. Pull charger. Turn off. Plug back in. Charge full. Pull battery about 30 seconds. Pop back in. Turn on. And see what happens.
butter and jelly please...
You could try something like CPUSpy from the market and see what is keeping your system awake and active. Or Watchdog
Edit: I actually stopped using Watchdog because it ate more battery than what it s service was worth.
I tried calibrating as mentioned which didn't seem to do anything.
Tried CPU spy and nothing seemed odd. Most of the time was spent in the lowest frequency or in deep sleep.
I've just installed the MCR jelly bean ROM last night. And I've instantly noticed massively improved battery life, however I haven't fully restored all my apps and data yet, so I'm slightly dubious as to whether this will remain.
If once I restore all the apps and data I get battery issues again, is there anything else I could do to try and find out the route cause?
Would a log cat help?
Thanks
search the forum for betterbatterystats, if this is an app issue, then bbs will find out which app is behaving weird

Jellybean Battery Life issue

So i'm running stock jellybean 4.1.1 OTA (yakju) however i've noticed battery life isn't great, charged phone overnight to 100% its been on standby for 7 hours and is already down to 68% screen time on is only 3 minutes, is this normal battery drain seems a bit excessive for standby.
depends on what you have running and syncing, etc.
you gave us no screenshots or anything to base anything off of.
I just charged up my phone from a 20 hour run, almost 4 hours screen time broswing with wifi mostly... stock JB 4.1.1
edit: oh i forgot i am using franco.Kernel
On my Nexus battery life isn't much better than on your Nexus, It is normal or then my Gnex battery is poor again..
I'm using "takju" JRCO03C with it's own radio + kernel so all is stock and battery life is enough good, for me on yakju builds the battery drains much much faster than on yakjuxw/takju builds..
My Galaxy Nexus's battery stays 14 hours with not using it and then battery is left something 12% or less, and when I use my Gnex then I can use it like 2 and half hours and then the battery has too less life to use it... (when Clock Alarm is on, and Hotmail + Facebook notification enabled...)
Google Now is said to use lots of power, have you tried disabling that?
I am also getting really bad battery life since JB. I have the extended 2000mah(?) battery so this might be the issue although I have not had any issue with ICS, I got about 26 hours with this battery on ICS. Now on JB I will go from 100% to 85% in 2 hours and all I did was text about 10 times, no phone calls. Today I woke up at 6am listened to Google music going to the beach, at the beach did not use the phone except to check the time.
Listened to Google Music on the way home, got home at 6:30pm battery was at 31%. I did not surf, made one phone call that lasted 30 seconds.
This has been about consistent since JB installation. Everything is stock except for the fact that I am rooted.
I am currently conditioning my battery, when done Im going to remove facebook and see what happens. Also can we "freeze" Google Now? This so I can test the batter.
Thanks for any suggestions and/or ideas.
I'll chime in to say I'm also getting slightly worse battery life on JB. I'm mostly observing idle battery drain during the work day. On ICS it was a steady 0.5%/hr, on JB it is over 1%/hr. So before I could get away with not charging it some nights and it'd only lose like 3% overnight, but now it's more like 7%. The phone is stationary during this time so I can't imagine Google Now is contributing much. I'm not rooted, completely stock.
What are some options available to investigate this? BetterBatteryStats or apps like that?

What is your idle battery life and setup with JB?

I'm noticing my idle battery drain on JB is slightly higher (but not significantly so) than it was on ICS. What is your idle battery drain % per hour on JB, and with what setup (ROM, kernel, # accounts syncing, etc.). Could this be entirely due to the "update location" checkbox in Maps (possibly for Google Now)? Any other potential causes?
The first night with Jelly Bean my phone went dead overnight (from about 51%), so I went through my settings and found that it was Google Now and/or the location updating in Maps. Probably contingent on one another. I turned Google Now off and unchecked the "Update Location" settings and the second night it only lost 4% battery in 9 hours.
Note: I also had GPS turned off during that first night so I don't know if that caused higher drain but I'm going to wait to see if it will be addressed in a future OTA before using it again.
I am actually conducting a bit of an experiment to find out more about the battery drain. Im in school so my phone spends a great deal of time on idle as I work. Yesterday I got about 22hrs of battery life with 2 hours of on screen time and some light web browsing, only sync accounts is Google. That was with stock Kernel and BAMF's JB build. This was about the same, maybe even better than my stock ICS 4.0.4. However I flashed James Bond kernel (3.1.9.9) and was pulling 1day 15hrs average with the same kind of usage (maybe enven a little heavier, didnt take screenshots unfortunately). Currently I have Franco kernel (r220 384gpu) loaded and overnight with 4g left on for 8 hours I dropped maybe 5% max.
I have no reason to go back to ICS so I wont do more testing on that front but I plan to try some kernels on the rom I am currently using.
For last night only 3% for 10 hours with wifi is on.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
So idle drain used to about half a percent per hour, today during work it has been 1%+. I noticed the "Keep awake" time under Android OS is over 2 hours even though screen on time is only 40 minutes. This is likely the problem right? I heard about possible issues with Light Flow on JB but I'm not sure if that would show up under Light Flow usage or Android OS. What are some other possible causes for the keep awake time here? Specifically related to Jelly Bean.
My battery drain has remained constant over the upgrade, I am getting about 2 days of battery life on idle, about 1 day on heavy usage.
Anybody else? My idle drain is now consistently at least 1%/hr or slightly more, whereas it used to be half percent/hr. I'd like to know what is causing this increase. Should I turn off Google Now? Are there apps I should try that will tell me? My Android OS keep awake time is still almost 4 times what my screen on time is...I don't think that was the case on ICS. What are other people's keep awake vs. screen on time?
Currently I have about 1hr 10min screen time and OS keep awake time of 7hr 33min. Total time on battery is 1day 2 hours and I still have 35% It seems that the kernel included with the Vicious build does not fit with my usage habbits and will be loading the James Bond or Franco kernel I had before. I feel like they had better deep sleep and governor management for my usage.
My current usage and stat on stock: 1d 16h 30m, 48% bat, 1h58m on screen with wifi is on. it's amazing
Ok, so yesterday I installed BetterBatteryStats. My phoned was unplugged for about 17 1/2 hours, screen on time less than an hour, and the Android OS "Keep awake" time was 15 hours and BBS showed Awake time as the entire 17 1/2 hours, and no deep sleep at all. However, I checked the various other things (wakelocks, processes, etc.) and even the highest item on each list didn't show more time than 10-15 minutes.
So I rebooted, checked several hours later, and it was in deep sleep for 90% of the time. That's good to see, but the issue is the no deep sleep thing keeps happening.
What can I do at this point to figure out exactly what app or process is preventing deep sleep? I've searched around and haven't seen many suggestions beyond BetterBatteryStats, which isn't showing me any major offenders.

I was thinking the same thing as you just as I was getting ready to charge my phone and wondering why Phone Idle + Maps were a third of my usage. I had 131 hours (32% remaining) on battery with 30% idle and 3% Maps, 33% screen with 2 hours 27 minutes on, 2.5 hours awake. I didn't start noticing this change until the last Maps update and turning on Google Now location stuff. Better Battery Stats also showed an awful lot of wake-ups each time I went to look before charging.
I also didn't notice this problem with 4.0.2 before I made the jump to 4.1.1 so it will be interesting to see if our increase in idle/Maps consumption is because of our Google Apps wanting to know where we are and if other users notice the same thing when they get upgrades - be it community or carrier based.
