Hi guys I have a suggestion/ request for devs.
There are just so many roms here which is hard to choose from. Is it possible for us to implement multi-boot for multiple roms?
E.g. testing CM10 while still using CM9 for major use
Thanks in advance.
from wt i read it's technically possible but i guess the devs here will supress the idea and idk y (im a noob)
well I guess first and foremost we should respect devs for their pro. knowledge and hard work. If they have to suppress the idea they must have hella good reason to do this
I just wanna raise awareness of devs and see if this is possible to implement =D

Here's the problem: there's just not enough space in our phone.
To safely implement multi-boot, not only the ROM needs to be made multiple, but also the kernel. This requires considerable space.
Further, to properly insulate one ROM from another, the internal storage will need to be repartitioned. And this itself is a *very* risky procedure. One mistake, and it's a hard brick. And new ROMs might not understand the new partitioning, making them overwrite the wrong partition and - bam! - hard brick.
So, the risks far outweigh the benefits, it's just not worth it.

I'm curious to see which are working in our phone. Sometimes I just feel that no one is developing for our phone.
We got new roms this week. Shut up

Its a valid question. And just how new are the elements of these roms?

Really? Experience them for yourself to find out. There are definitely some new roms.

Not trying to be negative but new roms does not equal development. 90% of what we have is MODDED roms. Very few actual roms that are DEVELOPED. We have lots of modders, one or two developers.

At last someone understands me!
I dont think you people understand. Theres a developer who starts from scratch on a stock pure rom. As a base. Not someones deodexed or debloated rom. A stock non root. Then they work on rooting the rom. And then deodexed the rom. Then they debloat (optional). Then add their apks. And then add theming. Honestly the devs here use other peoples base rom and just theme it nd tweak it a lil bit. To be honest the only developer that stands out is romanbb and whitehawx. They made juggernaut 4.1 as said in the description from scratch. They didnt kang anything or use someone elses work. They are true devs. The others are themers and tweakers and such. Now i love their work.. Honestly i love them too they make my phone that much better. Im just trying to clarify what it means to be a dev

Do u see the 13 toggles? They had to code everything for it to work on our device. You know how long that takes?! Like i said they used a SAMSUNG PURE NON ROOT ROM! Others use other devs deodexed roms or debloated roms. They do everything themselves it

So, whitehawx and romann didn't simply tweak stock Samsung twiz? How could those two build from scratch? All there has been are Samsung stock twiz so far. They cry abt Kang, but don't they Kang themselves?

Why does every thread turn into an argument? And if you think you have the right to complain about a devs ROM, then put out something of your own that's better. If you can't, well then anyone who can even kang a ROM is lightyears ahead of you so don't complain.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SII White Edition
What difference does it make whether they're kang'ed or not?
The developers we have working on this phone have stepped up and released some very decent kernels and roms and they've worked hard to do so. I don't expect a developer to build CM7 or 9 from scratch, but I've used DARKSIDE's CM7 Hybrid for a while and it's incredible. Other developers (TricH, faux123, Team Kang) have all released some great stuff as well.
We've had a slow start getting this phone off the ground and I think it's due to the attitude some people have that we're owed something by simply owning this phone and having the ability to flash roms. Let's show the developers we have a little gratitude and patience and development for this phone will continue to take off as it has over the past few weeks.
If yall want to view it that way, everyone is using samsung's ROM as a base ROM and modifying it. If any of you have tried to develop than you would know that even minor variations from a "stock" takes time and effort. All developers start somewhere and the hope is for them to contribute to the community and learn and get better. My solution to people who are complaining about real vs "fake" developing is this:
I came from the i9100 forums and they had two sections for Android development-original and the normal Android development. The original Android development are for developers who build everything from scratch from source. The regular development is for everything else.
Like I said we don't want to discourage development because you never know which dev will grow up to be the next great!
Everyone kanged samsung's ROM hahaha...

Dsxidia has a kitchen, you should check out the chef section of XDA, it's designed for experienced chefs or serious students only, sounds like you fall in the latter category.
The other thing you might want to check out is modaco, it allows a cookie cutter approach, but probably not quite what your looking for.
Good luck, tinkering away with a willingness to learn is how alot of great chefs got their start.

Hey everyone!
Some of you may know me, or of my work (RobotoMOD, ParanoidAndroid Port), those of you who do know me may also know me by my actual name: Ivan. I don't mind which you call me
More to the point of the thread, I'm making this for anyone who has any questions or comments about anything, it doesn't have to be dev related - it could be a question about Android in general, or if there are apps out there that can do something you want your phone to do, or it could just be that you want to chat.
Whatever it is, post it here. If you feel your thread in the Q&A section isn't getting the attention it requires, I will do my best to answer it to the best of my ability, and in plain, simple English for those who have English as a second language. If it's chatting you're after, or just want to leave a comment, do so! And I'll be sure to make conversation and make new friends with the people I share the same device with.
I generally check the forums every 20-30 minutes when I'm on my computer, and every couple of hours when I'm on my phone - except for when I'm really busy and can't check, so you can be (almost) sure that you'll receive a reply to your post within a day.
Go! :victory:
This maybe a good plan but I personally would want to discourage people from posting questions in the general section....... It is to help them use their eyes and brains before posting anything

As far as I know, there aren't even AOSP ROMs for marvel.
I see cm7 and cm9 which is pure aosp, but they say the marvelc isn't getting much love, or isn't as stable as the gsm version

I think you're a bit confused. CM7 and CM9 aren't pure AOSP. AOSP is Android Open Source Project - that's vanilla Android as Google makes it. CM (CyanogenMod) is a custom ROM that's based on AOSP, adding features and other things. There's CM9 for marvelc, in the same thread as for marvel, and to my knowledge it's pretty stable, but since the dev has a marvel and not a marvelc, he can't test out bugs. I'm not sure about CM7 though.
CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG - Wireless N function not available?
Hi,
This is a repost, but I haven't had a response so I thought I'd ask you, seeing as you have made such a kind offer of assistance. I would have asked in the Development section, but I don't have enough posts yet to ask there.
I have a Wildfire S (a510b GSM Australian Telstra base phone) on which I have installed the CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG ROM.
I do not appear to be able to see any Wireless N WIFI connections, I think it is a radio issue and that I might need to flash a new radio. However I do not know anything about radio firmware or where to get the correct radio for my phone to allow WIFI N?
What would I need to do to get wireless N working on CM7, it worked on the the stock HTC Sense before I flashed the CM7 ROM?
Many thanks for your help!

Hi
As i am Developer (But not in android)... I know a small thing about Installation, small mods, recovery... others.
But i am eager to cook a rom of Myself. May u please Say or Guide me to Mod of Rom of MySelf... (I mean the steps)
Note : I already have JDK, Androd SDK, Knows small thing about Logcat, Rom installation, Wiping, So i hope i may not be a Big head ache to you
Thanks for reading this.....
I'm new to the whole Android community and I was messing around with my new Wind Galaxy S3 T999V. I got it rooted and everything was fine until i tried to install a kernel not realizing that it was for the I9300 version. Now I'm pretty sure I'm hardbricked, so to stop myself from getting into this situation again, I wanted to know how the kernels and roms worked different in each type of phone.
I read that removing certain files like boot and radio from the roms allow you to use them on different variants. Is that the same case when it comes to kernels or do kernels operate completely differently. As I said, complete noob here and trying to learn but I'm so confused with all these different things.
Your help is very appreciated.
-Sarmad
Just make sure you are in the correct forum and each ROM and/or kernel has detailed instructions as to what to do, what their programs do, and which phones they are for.
I can't give much specific advice or answer questions, I'm a noob as well.

Oh I've learned my lesson, but I want to know if I can take other ROMS/ kernels and remove certain files that will conflict with my phone and still be able to to get the REST of the rom/ kernel working on my phone. Or if I can tweak certain rom/ kernels and put the necessary files for my phone within them and have them working smoothly.
Main problem being, that I'm on Wind and the dev community for the Canadian stuff is small, so I'd just port over T-mobile stuff or the international roms & kernels.
Anybody even reading these? Could defs use the help as random posts aren't really helping me understand. And I really don't wanna brick another phone.

unless you are a dev/op your self. i would not mess with that stuff. use roms/kernels that are your for exact model and carrier. you are risking another brick man.

I'd like to introduce my first published ROM to the community.
-What is Infinity about?
The purpose of this ROM is for those who don't care much about dealing with bugs and waiting for updates or tweaks to get a daily driver. My project is to keep this as stock as possible because I believe that the touchwiz features are awesome. I'd like to keep the mods to a minimum to maintain functionality and keep the ROM as bug free as possible. Infinity fits perfectly as the name of this ROM as it allows YOU, the user, to make infinite choices to how you want your phone to feel and act like. While I am the chef, I feel its your resposibility to chose the themes and mods ypud like to add as you see fit.
- who this ROM is not for?
This ROM is not for those who are here to flame others or rudely criticize my work. While I accept suggestions and constructive criticism , I will not allow rudeness. Please feel free to post questions or concerns here as I may not ever get to my PMs. Enjoy.
Download instructions:
*download to SD
*backup ROM
*flash in recovery using favorite recovery method
If coming from another ROM I'd recommend wiping data . If coming from stock id still recommend wiping data but your willing to try and dirty flash.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the sudden death of your phone if you flash this wrong or flash mods not compatible with this.

Will flash tonight! As long as you are working towards including AOSP lockscreen, contacts, and messenger, I will stick with you the whole way. As far as the power mods, can you include screenshot? I know you can hold power and home, its just easier if its in the power menu.
Running very fast and smooth so far. Did you take out the calendar widget? The app for it is there but no widget.
Awesome. Thanks for the feedback so far. Uh. I probably took the calendar widget out on accident. I will work on it tonight. Still at work. For now. You can push the calendar widget apk into system settings. Screenshot in power menu should be next then I assume. hopefully I get some time tonight if the wife does the come a call in'. There's so much to say but trying to be respectful at the same time. Grrrrrrr. Do you really know what you're doing, or do you only understand the basics and know how to make a flashable zip rom? I'm being serious and not trying to be a ****... its just it seems like a.... pointless thread/rom... as of now. Of course when it can be a AOSP/TW ROM that's awesome, but now???!!! Just seems not very important. Again not trying to be a jerk, just speaking my mind.
You saying "uh. I probably took the calendar widget out on accident" makes me want to not flash the ROM, I understand trial and error but, that should be done before publicizing your work. I'm an A-Hole and this and that so be it, criticism sucks.

No I understand where you're coming from. My haste to get this out there superceeded my common sense. Also my poor word choice also can be a fault in people not wanting to try this. I am not completely new at this. Although I am not alone in creating a ROM using the kitchen. That is the difference between "original" android development in this forum and "android development". A few ROMs I've seen in this section were probably made using the kitchen ad out does the basic for you. The rest is actually knowing Smali and baksmali, compiling and dwcompiling of XML files and such. That isy weakness as I have to search countless forums and guides to find out how to do it in my own. Everyone started somewhere. As much as I want to pull this ROM now I feel I should be more careful in what I say and how I add mods and test them. I know nowadays people seek the ROMs that are "flashy" and have tons of features but it comes at a price. I am not just building for people but foe fun and foe myself. I do run my roms and therefore don't want to brick my own device. I appreciate the criticism as you are probably saying what others don't. Its all part of the learning process. On the other hand, there are plenty of awesome ROMs to choose from.

Thanks man. The journey will be long and difficult. Again I appreciate everyone's patience. I have some time tonight to mess around with some code. I believe I have the power menu figured out. And I wanted to ask. Do you guys prefer lidroid toggles which are customizable or something else. I preferably like the stock ones but something customizable could be added as a zip instead of a default. That is why I'd like to really dig into aroma which would allow maximum user customization but its gonna take more than one night of studying the tutorial and testing. I'll add back the calendar and hopefully have advanced power menu up. No eta yet.

I believe options in aroma would be the way to go. I personally would like the 15 toggle mod built in. I totally understand that you are learning as you go, i am just thankful to have someone working on this. After you put the calendar back in (lol) and add the basic power mods and such, i would be cool with you adding AOSP features one at a time. That would also help with testing.
