Hey everyone!
Some of you may know me, or of my work (RobotoMOD, ParanoidAndroid Port), those of you who do know me may also know me by my actual name: Ivan. I don't mind which you call me
More to the point of the thread, I'm making this for anyone who has any questions or comments about anything, it doesn't have to be dev related - it could be a question about Android in general, or if there are apps out there that can do something you want your phone to do, or it could just be that you want to chat.
Whatever it is, post it here. If you feel your thread in the Q&A section isn't getting the attention it requires, I will do my best to answer it to the best of my ability, and in plain, simple English for those who have English as a second language. If it's chatting you're after, or just want to leave a comment, do so! And I'll be sure to make conversation and make new friends with the people I share the same device with.
I generally check the forums every 20-30 minutes when I'm on my computer, and every couple of hours when I'm on my phone - except for when I'm really busy and can't check, so you can be (almost) sure that you'll receive a reply to your post within a day.
Go! :victory:
This maybe a good plan but I personally would want to discourage people from posting questions in the general section....... It is to help them use their eyes and brains before posting anything

As far as I know, there aren't even AOSP ROMs for marvel.
I see cm7 and cm9 which is pure aosp, but they say the marvelc isn't getting much love, or isn't as stable as the gsm version

I think you're a bit confused. CM7 and CM9 aren't pure AOSP. AOSP is Android Open Source Project - that's vanilla Android as Google makes it. CM (CyanogenMod) is a custom ROM that's based on AOSP, adding features and other things. There's CM9 for marvelc, in the same thread as for marvel, and to my knowledge it's pretty stable, but since the dev has a marvel and not a marvelc, he can't test out bugs. I'm not sure about CM7 though.
CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG - Wireless N function not available?
Hi,
This is a repost, but I haven't had a response so I thought I'd ask you, seeing as you have made such a kind offer of assistance. I would have asked in the Development section, but I don't have enough posts yet to ask there.
I have a Wildfire S (a510b GSM Australian Telstra base phone) on which I have installed the CM7.2 RC1-marvel-KANG ROM.
I do not appear to be able to see any Wireless N WIFI connections, I think it is a radio issue and that I might need to flash a new radio. However I do not know anything about radio firmware or where to get the correct radio for my phone to allow WIFI N?
What would I need to do to get wireless N working on CM7, it worked on the the stock HTC Sense before I flashed the CM7 ROM?
Many thanks for your help!

Not trying to be negative but new roms does not equal development. 90% of what we have is MODDED roms. Very few actual roms that are DEVELOPED. We have lots of modders, one or two developers.

At last someone understands me!
I dont think you people understand. Theres a developer who starts from scratch on a stock pure rom. As a base. Not someones deodexed or debloated rom. A stock non root. Then they work on rooting the rom. And then deodexed the rom. Then they debloat (optional). Then add their apks. And then add theming. Honestly the devs here use other peoples base rom and just theme it nd tweak it a lil bit. To be honest the only developer that stands out is romanbb and whitehawx. They made juggernaut 4.1 as said in the description from scratch. They didnt kang anything or use someone elses work. They are true devs. The others are themers and tweakers and such. Now i love their work.. Honestly i love them too they make my phone that much better. Im just trying to clarify what it means to be a dev

Do u see the 13 toggles? They had to code everything for it to work on our device. You know how long that takes?! Like i said they used a SAMSUNG PURE NON ROOT ROM! Others use other devs deodexed roms or debloated roms. They do everything themselves it

Why does every thread turn into an argument? And if you think you have the right to complain about a devs ROM, then put out something of your own that's better. If you can't, well then anyone who can even kang a ROM is lightyears ahead of you so don't complain.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SII White Edition
What difference does it make whether they're kang'ed or not?
The developers we have working on this phone have stepped up and released some very decent kernels and roms and they've worked hard to do so. I don't expect a developer to build CM7 or 9 from scratch, but I've used DARKSIDE's CM7 Hybrid for a while and it's incredible. Other developers (TricH, faux123, Team Kang) have all released some great stuff as well.
We've had a slow start getting this phone off the ground and I think it's due to the attitude some people have that we're owed something by simply owning this phone and having the ability to flash roms. Let's show the developers we have a little gratitude and patience and development for this phone will continue to take off as it has over the past few weeks.
If yall want to view it that way, everyone is using samsung's ROM as a base ROM and modifying it. If any of you have tried to develop than you would know that even minor variations from a "stock" takes time and effort. All developers start somewhere and the hope is for them to contribute to the community and learn and get better. My solution to people who are complaining about real vs "fake" developing is this:
I came from the i9100 forums and they had two sections for Android development-original and the normal Android development. The original Android development are for developers who build everything from scratch from source. The regular development is for everything else.
Like I said we don't want to discourage development because you never know which dev will grow up to be the next great!
Everyone kanged samsung's ROM hahaha...

Dsxidia has a kitchen, you should check out the chef section of XDA, it's designed for experienced chefs or serious students only, sounds like you fall in the latter category.
The other thing you might want to check out is modaco, it allows a cookie cutter approach, but probably not quite what your looking for.
Good luck, tinkering away with a willingness to learn is how alot of great chefs got their start.

We need a stable, bugless CM7 ROM or maybe even CM9 ROM for the MarvelC. Mines the MetroPCS wildfire S. And I litterly refresh the xda developer app everyday with hopes of a new or fixed ROM for my phone, but nothing since I got it. I hate senseui so much that I could puke. And for this reason I'm thinking about buying a cheap Optimus M off Craigslist because honestly to me that was an better phone with CM7 then this one on sense 3.5. In the coming month this phone will be replaced if there's no new development. It's sad and I know I'm posting nonesense by this post. But I had to post my oppinion somewhere. Id develop myself. But I have no clue how to start. I have some limited knowledge of adb and computers. But that's it.
Edit: and oh yeah. Nobody ever replies to marvelc users when they ask for help on CM threads. If its on purpose. It's not funny. We need help dammit.

The devs are hard at work to get good roms for your phone please do not insult them by posting negative comments like this
Don't give people false hope. There are NO marvelc devs. We had a couple of hobbiests for awhile, but at this point, even they have stopped trying.
I even tried to get some of the iho team over here for some help. But they are elitists and all but the junior dev ignored me. And all he said was no.
In the end, if you can get rid of the c, do it immediately. It was abandoned by HTC as soon as it was released, and by any capable dev soon after.

Well first off welcome to the Android Community. You've definetely started in the right place with XDA. Rooting an android phone and getting a custom ROM is easier than ever now. I would suggest first scrolling to the top of this forum and doing a lot of research and self education. There are several things you need to have a basic understanding of before flashing roms. Look at the most wanted topics thread, The official Jelly Bean General Discussion thread, Terminology for the newbies. Check out this post as well.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873873
In the end consider that Jelly Bean is still in the developmental stages and there can be bugs and workarounds to deal with. If you are new to Android, going with a solid custom ICS rom may be best for you so as not to spoil your Android experience.
Finally once you have made your decision head over to the Android rom development section ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1332 ) and look through the roms and choose the best one for your needs. Read the instructions and then read them again. Install exactly according to the directions in the thread from the rom you choose and enjoy ! Hope this helps a little at least. Happy Flashing ! :highfive:
The best thing to do is read, read, read. Knowledge is the best way to prevent accidents. The process for loading custom ROMs on this phone is simple but you'd be surprised how many "educated" people screw it up. Good luck.

I've flashed their latest rom and have had no sleeps of death or random reboots. This is going over 24 hours now and I did get 21 hours of battery for my first battery cycle. If you want more info send me a pm and ill link you some links. But yes read and watch a lot of youtube videos together ideas of what roms can do.

My 2 cents is that JB ROMs are not yet ready to act as daily drivers on the T989 for most of us.
The RRs and SODs continue as well as several other quirks.
I've been on and off the leading JB ROMs since mid-August and in most all cases I lost more features than I gained.
Thank God for the developers and early adopters who brave the bleeding edge for us all.
But I will wait in the safety of AOKP MS6 until I see something from Whitehawakx that's labeled "milestone" before I flash again.

All the ones I have tried so far I've had issues with, I would suggest something more stable like an ics for now. The JB roms look nice but they have issues with calls, random lockups and such.
Greetings everyone,
I would like to start off by apologizing for bothering you folks with yet another "what's the best ROM for having X and doing Y" thread, although I felt that after searching I had a rather specific criteria, which I'm hoping someone may be able to address.
I have been using Virtuous Affinity for awhile now, and frankly I'm starting to feel old It seems like ICS has been out forever while I'm still on gingerbread. I am a little unclear on what the official status is of ICS support though; I thought I remembered hearing some talk about HTC potentially having an ICS based update in the works, although past that I know nothing. Browsing around, I'm a little discouraged by some of the known issues ICS roms may have; no camera support, broken audio/bluetooth, things like that.
What I would optimally like to have is a fully functioning ICS ROM. Stable, good performance, nice on the battery, etc. etc. UI wise, I have become accustomed to HTC's Sense UI, but even then I'm very foggy on what the differences are between their major versions (I've been hearing of 2.0 and 3.0). To be honest though, I wouldn't mind trying a new UI. I've liked the one Samsung puts on their Galaxy SIII.
Above all, stability is my goal. I'm not too comfortable with the trailblazing "nightly" builds and testing ROMs; having a working phone is pretty important to me. Now you might say, "Well, why even root to begin with?" Okay, I like to experiment a little bit
But I digress. What is there in the wonderful and magical world of ROMs?
P.S. I think it would be really useful if there was a sticky going something like "State of the ROM", which pulls together a list of ROMs and highlights their features and issues in an easy to compare manner (so a step up from the currently stickied ROM compilation thread)

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I suppose I might want to give Evervolv a shot (Wifi is fixed I hope?) although I'm a little unclear about installing it. Most OPs post a tutorial for flashing ROMs, and while I would feel a little more comfortable flashing Evervolv on my own, it seems like there a new hoops you have to jump through for flashing ICS/JB roms. Could anyone guide me through the steps?
If you are rooted and have installed a custom recovery, go ahead and download the ROM of your choice, then install it from the recovery using install zip from SD card, then install the correct Google apps whether 4.2 gapps or 4.1 gapps
After that you restart and wait for the room to boot.
I highly recommend installing crossbreeder after the first boot, and then you are done!!!

Why would you start by apologizing. You are acknowledging that this is redundant. Read the threads that are already there. You aren't asking anything new. And even if you were, you could ask in an existing thread. And if the rom doesn't give specific instructions it means you flash it the same way as any other. Read the op in the thread for each rom and try usually state what works and doesn't.

I think you might be misunderstanding my OP... Yes, I am aware that the general form of the question has been asked, although I wanted to see how the community felt about the priorities I put forth in looking for a ROM (hence why I later suggested that a sticky stacking the ROMs against each other with their features and flops would be useful). I realize now that a lot of the ICS roms don't exactly meet what I was looking for anyways, and that I would have to take some relatively larger risks. Alas, I am going forth with trying one of the suggested ones.
And I believe asking in another thread would be considered hijacking by most forums? I see it's not explicitly mentioned in the rules, although I would expect people to keep questions to their own threads as a matter of courtesy.
I sometimes forget people can't hear the tone my tone of voice when I type. I meant laying down the law in a good way.
To the OP. Perhaps you would like to work on your suggested project of comparing the roms and once then we can all add our input to your list?

I didn't take it negatively. And your suggestion is spot on with what I was about to reply. Something my pastor says when people come to him with new ministry ideas, "that sounds great, I'm putting you in charge of that committee." Usually people want stuff done but want someone else to do it.
People don't generally make those threads because like this one they get redundant. The features are listed in the rom thread. Questions pertaining to the rom are asked in that thread. If someone wants to make a thread like you suggest that's fine, but what happens is someone comes in and instead of reading the rom thread they start asking questions in the new thread that have been answered already and the op constantly has to refer people to go read that thread.
