Housekeeping ... forum name inconsistencies - About xda-developers.com

FWIW...
This forum is names Nexus 7 and obviously falls under N alphabetically ...
The two new Nexus Forums for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 are named 'Google Nexus 4' and 'Google Nexus 10' ...
So when browsing the forum list alphabetically the three are not grouped together as you might expect...
Makes finding them just a tad harder and on a site as expansive as XDA, that is not ideal...
Where is the best place to post a thread like this?
Thanks

It pretty much goes by order of release, not alphabetically, and there's no getting around the fact that the Nexus 7 is older than the 4 or 10.
On the bright side... we're right next to Nexus Q and that HAS to be convenient for someone... right, right...

it was never alphabetical. always by release. weird, i kno

I just search (device name) + xda.
Searching "nexus 7 xda" in Google has http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1673 for the first link Probably a lot quicker then trying to manually find the forum anyway. However, I do agree I might find it a bit of an inconvenience to find my device manually.

I actually prefer them by release. That way I know "ABC is newer then XYZ". I also can think of how long ago it was released and get a general idea of where it will be on the list.
If they were to completely redo it, I would suggest perhaps having a main category of the manufacture. So Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Apple, Nokia, etc. Some sites actually do this and I don't like it too much because it segregates you specifically to one section all of the time.
I like browsing through the other forums.

Click the HOME icon next to the " Home - Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 General - Housekeeping " bit .. top left of this page.
Hit Ctrl F to bring up a search box in your browser.
Enter search term Nexus 4 (or whatever)
Click desired link, bookmark, job done.

In regard to the naming inconsistency, I agree - it should either be "Google Nexus 4, 7, 10" or "Nexus 4, 7, 10" for all of them. No question.
In regard to the sorting, I'll say this: While I'm a tech nut, I don't know exactly when anything is released. I know when the Nexus 7 was released because this particular device interests me, but I have *no* idea when the HTC Incredible 4G LTE came out. I just know I picked it out when I went to buy a phone. Therefore, I have *no* idea how to find it unless it's by chance or unless I use the browser find feature.
To be quite candid, the only way I can see a "sort by newest" making any degree of sense is if there's a time limit on how long things are visible in that section.
Example:
New Devices (released within the last two weeks)
Nexus 4
Nexus 10
All Devices (A-Z)
A
B
C
D
Etc...
That way super new devices have their time at the top of the forum, and then they're later moved accordingly into an alphabetical fashion. If this can't be done, screw it: A-Z all day, every day. :good::good::good::good::good::good:

I just search for device. Though I have yet to figure out how to favorite device forum categories on the website version, such as in the app.

To be honest, I find that searching for specific devices is enough of a hassle that I just bookmark the individual forums in my browser. That way in 1 click I'm within the Nexus 7 category and I'm viewing all of the Nexus 7 related sub forums. It would be nice to have that functionality in the web version, as I do like that feature in the app quite a bit. :good:

What's Next For Nexus & Android??

I have had the luxury of trying a ton of Android devices, None quite like the Galaxy Nexus (Gnex). I am absolutely amazed everyday by the community, and this phone is CRAZY when unlocked and Rooted!!
My Only question is what's next?
As far as design goes I don't think they can do more. I know processing power could be added, but I'm starting to think the smartphone craziness has plateaued.
Being really gifted & creative is not one of my qualities. Lol .
But what is the next mobile craze going to be?
Are we going to get more personal (Skype), or more Avatar oriented?

My guess is more integrated voice actions/ commands, with a better tts engine.
So staying the course with speech to text dictation?

Agreed!

I would love NFC to be used for almost everything!

I get the feeling he's talking phone/hardware wise too. I think he also nailed it. Plateau... There will be quad cores and most likely someone is going to stick a 6 core in one eventually. Camera marketing will stop somewhere around 536mp meaningless as the watt ratings on most amps. But this is where I think the turning point is from that new double fast phone dropping each week on the hardware side and the next best optimizations will be software. IMO.

I'm hoping they nail video chat on the go! HD faces even on low end devices.

5 Nexus branded phones?

I wasn't able to watch the Google I/O yesterday so I decided to search the internet but couldn't find my answer.

Yes sir.
Rumors running around the internet are that google will release 5 Nexus devices each from different manufacturers.
For example, one from Samsung, another from HTC, etc.
I want to know if google said anything about this during the Google I/O yesterday.

Nope, wasn't mentioned. We'll most likely hear about it later in the year

I was hoping for an announcement too. Also when the price of the Galaxy Nexus was brought down to 350$ I was expecting something.
My old N1 is dying on me! Need a new Nexus phone!
The rumor was up to 5 Nexus "Devices", not necessarily phones.
They already have the Nexus 7 and Nexus Q, and if you include the Galaxy Nexus, that's 3 Nexus "Devices" that they are selling through the Play Store.

Good point! Wait for 2 more devices! Hoping for a phone! or even a Nexus 10!
Personally I hope they stick with the 1/year strategy. Makes them feel more special. Having multiple Nexuses (Nexii?) makes it seem like they're gonna go the Galaxy route and literally slap the Nexus name on anything that connects to facebook
Unlimited nexus
How about nexus certified. You get stock rom alternative for these devices and faster update?

Most probably they'll go the Apple route. A tablet and a phone alternating every 6 months, with one major version upgrade a year.
So we'll probably get a new Nexus phone on 4.2+ Jellybean this late fall/winter and one or two other Nexus devices

Newegg for tablets?

Why does this app show up as incompatible? It's a tablet app it should work!
Anywhere I can just gets the apk to try it out?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Just because it's a tablet app does not automatically equate to compatibility. It could be that the app is dependent on a 10.1" screen or rear camera.
That being said, it seems that the tablet app is far less polished than the mobile app anyway. I wouldn't even bother with it.

I agree with the OP in that I would like to see filters replaced by advisements but your point is well taken.
The app developer did not write in the resources for all sizes of devices. Its in a manifest type file that play store reads. The play store does not monitor or control apps or app quality and rather its up to the developer to specify what device its built for.
So short of starting arguments. Email developer of the app. That is the only one who can help.
Good luck.
I did actually, I got a response "we have no information on that item at this time, sorry for the inconvenience".
I know why they filters are in place but it can be annoying. To me a nexus device is the android standard, any application that is relevant should show up in the market, but it doesn't. It's also frustrating in the case of upgrading, like when I upgraded from my aging Samsung Captivate to my HTC Vivid that has twice the power, and yet a fraction of compatibility. I seriously have games that I played on my captivate that won't show for the Vivid. So what your saying is a single core Galaxy S phone with 512mb of ram and an aging power vr sgx540 can play Nova 2 just fine but a Qualcomm Snapdragon s3 with a dual core processor and a gig of ram and an adreno 230 gpu can't? Doesn't make much sense to me.
I am using that as an example but it is a true one. I no longer game on my phone as I use the nexus now but it does seem ridiculous that upgrading to a better phone or tablet can break your compatibility.

Hello, my name is the7thson and I have a problem...

Just figured I'd share my addiction story amongst my fellow Android kin who would understand. I'm addicted to the Nexus line. I literally own everything ever made that says Nexus on it (other than the Q, but they pulled that pretty quickly).
I always think I'm going to sell a device and move on to the next one, but for some reason I keep hoarding them and never getting rid of them.. I have no idea why. Attached are some pictures.
And yes, I have 2 GNexii, one is for every day stable use and the other one is for discovering new features before they're ready for prime time
Today I bought a Nexus 4, but somehow convinced myself that I don't need Nexus 10 since I'm so happy with my Nexus 7. Whew, dodged that bullet!
I realize this is off-topic and not exactly productive in any way, but I figured who else would understand if not this bunch.
EDIT: I'm sure you all already know this, but just in case: Clockwise from top left - Nexus One, Nexus 7, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Nexus. All carrier unlocked.
