I'm in NYC and since the Hurricane came through reception hasn't been up to par. But this morning I had trouble making calls and when I glanced at my lock screen I saw AT&T on top. How does that happen?

You guys are probably roaming on AT&T because the T-Mobile towers nearest you are down.
Unless it's a government conspiracy......

What you're experiencing is a result of T-Mobile and AT&T temporarily agreeing to open each other's networks to allow roaming for all their customers in the affected storm areas.

Data is about 128kbps, so still works but seems to be provisioned at the lower tier.
Checking lte.
I roam on ATT on occasion when I got visit my friend in BFE. Speeds are sometimes decent.
I have roamed on AT&T before too when i was on the Big Island of Hawaii. mine said i had edge service but was never able to connect to data

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Possible, yes. Likely? No.
Thats not a bug... in most areas sprint phones won't use 3g for roaming.
Hope it does not affect fort sill area. Because if it does I'll be dropping sprint.

Most areas in the state where I live that Sprint has no coverage, I roam on 3g with the 606xx PRLs (the standard consumer ones). I would hope that the new roaming agreements in KS and OK will be 3g.

Ugh... Nvm. It is way to complicated to understand that in certain areas where sprint loses a contract with an on network provider that they instead allow the users to use roaming but it'll go down as on network.
This very same thing happened a few months ago to three north western states. One of them was Montana

*I posted this over on Androidcentral to get more input.. I wanted to see a broad idea of the people getting good/bag 4g.
(Don't know if this falls in question or general discussion, seeing as it is discussing)
Hello everyone. Anyone in the Miami area or near Miami, Florida, getting good or bad 4G.?
Well on my 2nd GNexus here with bad 4g (no 4g or flakey 4g) Tried 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4. radios.
I get 1 bar for 5 minutes and boom it's gone till I reboot or sim card pull, tried a new sim card as well.
Just seeing what kind of 4g people are getting in my area.
Thanks.
yea it really sucks down here. theirs only a few places were ive gotten full 4G bars
Welcome to the club.
It is pathetic in East Phoenix-Metro, AZ. As I type this, my nexus has NO data whatsoever and it has been going in and out frequently. Today was quite embarrassing as well, for when I was in school, I needed to pull up a Google Doc on my phone, BUT what was my connection? GREY BAR NO DATA! Verizon, I pay you in excess of $100 dollars a month and this is what I get? What was that again, Most reliable 3G and 4G networks?????
Phoenix was one of the first cities in the US to get LTE on Verizon, and now I am wondering why the first has to be the last in reliability.
I've been using my GSM Nexus in Miami for over two weeks and everything's been fine so far. T-Mobile doesn't have great signal strength indoors, but I've had that issue with every phone I've had with them. I'm about to switch to StraightTalk using AT&T's network so I'll let you know how it goes, but no problems to speak of so far!

similar issues in Chicago area....no data, greyed out 4g, etc. i also have mifi and that had issues connecting as well
Verizon....the new ATT.
4g is out in Washington DC also.
Same here in Minneapolis
No 4G in NYC this morning. Besides not having data, service been terrible here in the city since I switch from at&t last week , I usually get 40mbs here in my house on At&t, I get 5mbs on Verizon LTE sucks plus I have not seen full bars on the phone yet. Is it the phone or just how the service is? I still got a week until my 14 days return period. What to do
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I used my LTE Toggle to turn 4g off and I picked up a 3g signal after about 30 seconds. 3g now holding fine.
No 4G in Pittsburgh, PA. Oh Verizon, you silly people and your "improving the network".
I can't even get 3g.
San diego. 4g is out. Intermittent 3g

Experiencing some issues downloading those expense reports via your Verizon LTE device this morning? You're not alone. We've received reports of data outages in Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Pennsylvania and Ohio. We've reached out to VZW to find out what the issue is, and as soon as and we know more we'll post it right here. For now, let us know if your LTE is letting you down in the comments below.
Update: Via Twitter, Verizon states "VZW is investigating customer issues in connecting to the 4GLTE data network. 3G data, voice and text services are operating reliably." However, we're hearing reports that 3G is down for customers as well in some areas.

It's a mix of both. For example, I come from a Droid Razr Maxx and that thing had amazing signal and held 4G just fine. But sometimes Verizon could be derpy, atleast not for me though.
So after reading all these replies (thanks guys) seems like its a widespread problem.
edit: Oh what a coincidence, my 4G problems lined up with this outage, but no guys my issues of no 4g, are seperate outage or not sadly
Im in New York State and sometimes I will start roaming and if I go to send a message it will say you are international roaming, additional charges apply. Then it gives me a choice to send anyway, cancel, and resend when in a domestic network or something like that. Why does the phone think I am international roaming? I had this same issue on my old Samsung Moment and i was charged some crazy price that sprint ended up removing. But how am i international roaming? I have roaming set to automatic because where i work i go in and out of sprints towers. Under Roaming settings I have international voice and data unchecked. I was also getting this message when I would try to use data.
Anyone have any clue?
Upstate new york? Like rochester? It must think your in canada or something. Or Maybe the towers your roaming to are under canadian license.
Yupp exactly rochester!!! I remeber when I had the Samsung Moment the GPS in that phone was aweful and had me in some place in chine when I would open maps. Not sure how I could be roaming in a canadian tower unless its coming over lake ontario which in my case would be well over 50 miles lol
I get this all the time too, and no, I'm no where near a border. Also, I cannot roam - data stays off, and voice calls go straight to Verizon saying I can't use their network unless I pay.
I was getting this in Virginia yesterday. Last time I checked, Virginia was nowhere near any international cell towers.

I was internationally roaming in long island ny.

I got the international roaming warning near St. Louis.
C'mon, man!
Hope I don't see some huge charge for the text I sent to my wife!
I am getting these constantly in the SF Bay Area. I think it relates to LTE rollout and testing because I'm constantly switching from 3G to 4G and I get these warnings whenever that switch happens. Turning off 4G (which isn't launched here yet anyway) makes them stop.

At my house I get the most sh** service you could imagine (1 bar or roaming 95% of the time) I do have an AirRave but I think it's broken or faulty because only 3 of the green lights are on and my phone SHOULD have full service but I never get more than 3 bars (as previously stated, before I had the AirRave it would be at 1 bar or roaming, so I guess it's somewhat working). However, like a 5-10 minute drive outside of my neighborhood, I get 3 bars to full service so switching carriers probably isn't the best thing to do (plus my parents pay for my bill ). My questions to you guys are:
1. Can I somehow flash my phone to get it on Verizon/AT&T/Boost/etc. when I'm at my house, then when I leave go back to the Sprint service? If so, how?
2. Is that even legal?
Thanks to anyone/everyone that can help guide me!
You can force your phone to roam onto Verizon with an app called Roam Control. You could try using that while you're at home.

Yes, I already know about that. But I think it costs like $4, and I've bought apps before (HD Widgets and MANY games) and regretted it after and just lost my money lol.
Roam control has been worth way more then the $4 i paid over 2 years ago....
That's the easy way to force roam on Verizon or whatever carrier you roam on.
Or....
You can flash a modded PRL and roam 24/7 unless you flash back.

Hi Daniel, I'm one of the dumb annoying people who force roam. I guess you don't understand why this has legitimate uses. Let me "educate" you.
Imagine you have to spend time in an area where Sprint has 1 bar service at best, but the roaming partner (Verizon) has good service. How do you think the phone deals with that? It constantly switches from Sprint to Roam and back. What do you think that does to the battery life? Kills it. When I am working in one of those areas I can expect my battery to go dead in 6 to 8 hours unless I force roam using Roam Control, in which case the phone lasts all day.
I like Sprint, but when you have to work inside a facility that is basically a Faraday cage, the 800 mHz roaming signal gets through much better than the 1900 mHz PCS. So sometimes Roam Control is a life/battery saver.
Hope my dumbness hasn't annoyed you too much .

4 dollars is a bargain for what this does. It's way better than having to constantly reinstall PRLs, which is the other option. It works well on a Sprint GS3.
I just noticed on their web page that they claim you have to be rooted for this to work on Samsung phones. They also have a 7 day refund policy.

Yeah in fact I still deal with 1 bar or none at my parents place where I spent 4 years with no signal in my room or anywhere in my house. Have you dealt with it for that long ?
So do yourself a favor and don't try to educate me on something that I am familiar with. You don't even know how long I had to deal with crappy service. Having to call sprint 4-5 times a month for 4 years. Do you know how frustrating that is???

Bear in mind that Roam Control only allows for EvDo 850 roaming capabilities. If Verizon has 1900 PCS spectrum in your area, Roam Control will NOT work.
I bought Roam Control awhile back and unfortunately this has been the case for me. I have been unable to get response from the developer about this, either. From what I hear, it's awesome if you're in a non-Alltel tower area.

Hello everyone so I just have to ask. I am strongly considering moving to T-Mobile from Verizon considering T's new promotions. Gonna go to the Note 3 if I do. So what I want to know is how is the development? Is anyone from the central Kentucky area or East Tennessee area (I travel between the two a lot.) How is the coverage, 4g coverage, 4g speed? Just doing some research before I make the jump. Any opinions is appreciated.

I think newer Verizon phones have SIM cards, not sure of details, but maybe you could get 1 month prepaid SIM from T-Mo and possibly test it? The problem with asking others is that a person on one side of town could have totally different coverage from the person across. In some less populated areas T-mo may have less coverage, but you can use WiFi calling and alleviate some problems that way.
