Anyone in the Miami (or near), Florida Area Getting Bad 4G? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

*I posted this over on Androidcentral to get more input.. I wanted to see a broad idea of the people getting good/bag 4g.
(Don't know if this falls in question or general discussion, seeing as it is discussing)
Hello everyone. Anyone in the Miami area or near Miami, Florida, getting good or bad 4G.?
Well on my 2nd GNexus here with bad 4g (no 4g or flakey 4g) Tried 4.0.2 -> 4.0.4. radios.
I get 1 bar for 5 minutes and boom it's gone till I reboot or sim card pull, tried a new sim card as well.
Just seeing what kind of 4g people are getting in my area.
Thanks.

yea it really sucks down here. theirs only a few places were ive gotten full 4G bars

Welcome to the club.
It is pathetic in East Phoenix-Metro, AZ. As I type this, my nexus has NO data whatsoever and it has been going in and out frequently. Today was quite embarrassing as well, for when I was in school, I needed to pull up a Google Doc on my phone, BUT what was my connection? GREY BAR NO DATA! Verizon, I pay you in excess of $100 dollars a month and this is what I get? What was that again, Most reliable 3G and 4G networks?????
Phoenix was one of the first cities in the US to get LTE on Verizon, and now I am wondering why the first has to be the last in reliability.

I've been using my GSM Nexus in Miami for over two weeks and everything's been fine so far. T-Mobile doesn't have great signal strength indoors, but I've had that issue with every phone I've had with them. I'm about to switch to StraightTalk using AT&T's network so I'll let you know how it goes, but no problems to speak of so far!

similar issues in Chicago area....no data, greyed out 4g, etc. i also have mifi and that had issues connecting as well

Verizon....the new ATT.

4g is out in Washington DC also.

Same here in Minneapolis

No 4G in NYC this morning. Besides not having data, service been terrible here in the city since I switch from at&t last week , I usually get 40mbs here in my house on At&t, I get 5mbs on Verizon LTE sucks plus I have not seen full bars on the phone yet. Is it the phone or just how the service is? I still got a week until my 14 days return period. What to do

I used my LTE Toggle to turn 4g off and I picked up a 3g signal after about 30 seconds. 3g now holding fine.

No 4G in Pittsburgh, PA. Oh Verizon, you silly people and your "improving the network".

I can't even get 3g.

San diego. 4g is out. Intermittent 3g

Experiencing some issues downloading those expense reports via your Verizon LTE device this morning? You're not alone. We've received reports of data outages in Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Pennsylvania and Ohio. We've reached out to VZW to find out what the issue is, and as soon as and we know more we'll post it right here. For now, let us know if your LTE is letting you down in the comments below.
Update: Via Twitter, Verizon states "VZW is investigating customer issues in connecting to the 4GLTE data network. 3G data, voice and text services are operating reliably." However, we're hearing reports that 3G is down for customers as well in some areas.

It's a mix of both. For example, I come from a Droid Razr Maxx and that thing had amazing signal and held 4G just fine. But sometimes Verizon could be derpy, atleast not for me though.
So after reading all these replies (thanks guys) seems like its a widespread problem.
edit: Oh what a coincidence, my 4G problems lined up with this outage, but no guys my issues of no 4g, are seperate outage or not sadly

Thinking of switching...

I currently have Sprint as my carrier that now, and long story short, I can get out of this without ETF. How is the overall reception with T-mo and this phone? This phone is becoming more and more attractive phone for me as I keep researching it.

So much better than sprint! I was with sprint for 10 years and have 2x the coverage now....love Tmobile compared to sprint..
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
It depends on where you are. I just came from Verizon and I am very happy with T-mobile and my GS2. The coverage is not as wide spread as what I am used to but it works just as well or better most of the places I go to.
Holy crapolie dude, i recently switched from sprint to tmobi and it was the best thing i have ever done. On sprint i was getting max 600kbps 3g, no wimax ever in my area, on tm avg 12 but have maxed 18fmbs, thats freaking megabits yo.
Galaxy s2 on tm is ok, dumb processor is not as good as exynos but with a good rom and kernel its very good. I get better reception with tm over sprint even. Im in palm springs ca area. I run juggernaut 4.1 rom with faux123 kernel, very happy.

Good to hear from switchers like me. I live in southeast Michigan near Ohio so coverage from Sprint can be spotty. As long as I can get even or better service without paying more, I'm willing to switch. My only fear is I'm switching my family into a worse carrier...how reliable is the coverage map on their website?
And regarding phone, I'm coming from an HTC and I'm getting tired of Sense. Haha.

Ya, I switched my family of 5. It's nice not having to use a damn airave in my house just to get a signal. The map seems pretty accurate....do you know anyone in your area with Tmobile?

I had the Evo4g on sprint recently before this phone. Note my location because my experiences are because of that....
voice reception is so much better on t-mobile. I love being able to send texts on the subway underneath center city, something you can't dream on doing with sprint. When it comes to data..... T-mobile disappoints me. I NEED to use wifi in my house. My evo4g I had full 3g/4g signal. In the rest of the city I find so many data holes its ridiculous. When I do have a data signal I much prefer wimax over hspa. Note I don't have hspa+ service here for some god knows why reason.
If I had good coverage and service I'd love t-mobile and some areas have that but honestly if they don't improve in my area I'm going to terminate my contract when the next generation of phones are released.
I want hspa+ or LTE
I switched from Sprint to Tmo back in August. I was with Sprint for over a year, and from the first day I complained about NO service whatsoever in my own house. Sprint pretty much kept calling me a liar and that I had perfect service, even when I resorted to using my house phone just to make calls.
Then, in August last year, Sprint decided they wanted to up the Administrative Fee to $1.50 and, per their terms and conditions, I can NOT agree to it and have my ETFs waived, and so I did. In a last ditch effort, they decided that they could waive the charge for the Air Rave, after I had complained to them from day one about the dropped calls, and even asked for them to send me an Air Rave for free (which many people in the EVO forums had theirs for free), but at that point, the last nail was already in the coffin, and said my final goodbyes.
Originally got my wife and I both LG G2X's for free (last day they were free, online anyway). Then I added my friend on, got an SGS II for his line, and gave him my G2X. With the APN workaround, good coverage, all is smooth sailing over here in Tmo-land. =D

Nada, I've yet to hear from anyone who has T-Mobile. Areas where I live (Lambertville) seem to have a big coverage over the town with 4G. I'm going to take that as good news since my 3G speeds are crawling where I live on Sprint.

Mhm, HSPA+ blows anything out from other carriers IMO. I don't much care for LTE until battery life is similar or better than that on a HSPA+ enabled carrier.

This I can sort of relate with since I was in Philly for about a week or so. 3G speeds were always above 1.5Mbps and WiMax was even better. I really loved the speeds and if only Sprint had speeds I was getting in Philly around where I live...One can dream right?
Anyways, I think I'm dead set on moving my family to T-Mobile. What is this forum's opinion on the new Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G? If that's coming out soon, then I may just skip on this one and go for the slightly newer one...

So more or less the same thing that happened when T-MO released the Galaxy S 4G as opposed to upgrading the Vibrant? Eh, it probably isn't going to be worth the (extra) price and I'd rather snag this phone over it, since it already has an established development around it.

Hmm, I don't really see any concrete evidence T-Mobile is failing of some sort. With the recent merger deal falling out, it gives T-mo roaming agreements and extra money to expand coverage.

T-Mobile 4g speeds nonexistent today

Anyone else in the South Florida area not getting any 4G service today. Edge works fine and I have phone service working but my 4G speeds don't exist today. I checked with T-Mobile and confirmed I have only used 2gb out of my 5gb plan with Unlimitted Data. I also have flashed different 2 radios and 3 ROMs to make sure it was not the phone.
I was having the same problem in Orlando this morning.. All the sudden everything started working again about an hour ago.. I think it's just a service outage or something.
In Ft. Lauderdale they were updating for 3 days straight last week. My signal read "G".
I think it means 1g service.

Not 100% positive to the slow 4g, late last week TM UN/officially launched the iPhone support in the las vegas area.
actually TM has been reframing thier 1700/1900Mhz and they now are near the 1800Mhz in areas.
What this also does is offer 3G & 4G HSPA+ to those that have unlocked iPhones
The reframe/refarming it freeing up the 1900Mhz for the LTE service
There are maps online http://leimobile.com/check-t-mobile-iphone-3g-4g-coverage-map/
Not sure if this may slow down some service areas while they are working on the reframe?
If a lot of phones make connections to the same station simultaneously, there will be very obvious slow down. My case is the football home game day at my University when I can not have data connection at all, but voice service is still good. Because there are full of thousands of people with phones connecting to the same station
Other places like at a crowded beach will have the same problem.

Nice opinion but it's not fact. 4G is great, it does not do anything for battery on my device because I always have 4 bars in the city I live in. I enjoy having it for fast browsing, fast loading of apps like facebook and currents etc.
I can't wait until there is nothing but 4G available, then let's see you say how "worthless" it is. Seriously.

Actually, 4G is pretty normal in almost all major cities at this point which is where a much higher population of people reside statistically. This means more people get 4G than don't. If you live in the sticks then that may be an issue for you but it definitely does not mean 4G is worthless.
BTW, no need to be rude just because you don't live in an area that has good 4G reception.

My 2 cents...
Im in Nashville, TN and over here, on Verizon, I have LTE everywhere. In fact, I never see my phone drop to 3G.
Is it a battery drain? Yes it is. Which is why I also toggle LTE off when Im not using it.
Do I actually use it? Well, If I was on Sprint with "Unlimited LTE" or if I had unlimited with Verizon I would use LTE 24-7 if I had unlimited data. In fact, If I had unlimited data I would just remove my Comcast Wifi and use LTE for all my data at home LOL.

You mean other then giving you voice and data at the same time?
Here in Houston, where we supposedly were part of the initial LTE rollout, 4G is still a hit or miss. 1 mile down the road from my old apartment, I could get 30 mbps down, 15 mbps up, but inside my apartment, I only had 1 to 2 bars of dead slow 3g.
Also, signals indoors are usually horrendous. I'm giving sprint until the end of my contract in a year to show me they can improve.

Got the same thing right around Christmas and i thought i was dreaming. Hey when you live in a rural area and have to use satellite for internet 4g is a welcome surprise.
Speeds aren't the best I've seen, approx 10mg down and up, but that's way nicer than the 3g i was used to.
I think in general battery life had improved. Typically i would try to toggle LTE off when home but half the time I'd forget so it'd drain a bit quicker searching.

Hi. There is LTE in NYC. But it is very spotty. There us a very small area in Manhattan midtown around 5th ave and 45th. Then along yh henry Hudson parkway from 86 to 120.

Reception in MA area?

I am currently using the S III on Verizon and I am looking to switch to T-Mo soon to save money, as I would save about $60/month. I am wondering if anyone is in the Boston area (I'm in the suburbs) that can comment on the kind of reception they get. Sorry if this isn't the right place for this. I figured it was as good as any.
What town do you live in? I get great service in the Boston Area around 5-7 mbps at home and inside the city I get around 10-20 mbps.

their map is pretty accurate...I live in Auburn, near the "edge" of Edge and 4G. In home a bit spotty on Cellular, but TMobile has the wifi calling and that is great when you are near wifi.
But most places closer in are fully covered in 4G, and really LTE vs HSPA...who cares!...Both are plenty fast for most things...
