It's not official because those are just test towers that Sprint is keeping lit, but it gives us NYC guys some hope that LTE will fully roll out sooner than later. Since I've been checking, the area around Bryant park popped up, and both Bronx/Harlem coverage seems to have grown. I've had the Note II since launch and this thing is just a beast, the only thing holding it back is LTE coverage. When it's hooked up to WiFi it absolutely decimates any other smartphone that I've played with.
This roll out is too slow I heard theres really only one test tower in Bronx . I live in Brooklyn and spend a lot of time in Manhattan seems like ill have to take a train ride to the Bronx just to get a little taste of LTE.
The test towers in Harlem are very real. My cop buddy was on patrol there and found it while driving around yesterday. Personally, I'm not a fan of going to sketchy neighborhoods so I'm going to check the spot by Bryant Park next time I'm in that area.
Im sorry 38,579+ towers in two years slow? About as slow as a rabbit on speed. Also, with the investment they just got. They'll most likely be slapping rockets and skates to the rabbit.

For the Queens guys (like myself), it looks like LTE is starting to trickle out in the Whitestone/College Point area (weird the map shows the strongest coverage on/around the Whitestone Bridge...lol). I'm not sure if this is an error, but being that I take that bridge all the time and live only 10 minutes or so from the area, I'm going to go check it out this weekend. Will report back with my findings.
For the Bronx guys it would seem your coverage area has grown significantly since I first posted. You lucky bastards.
LTE has to come in Staten Island soon and North Jersey!
the 3g is making me miss my dial up modem from 99, im in staten island and im getting 28 down/ 300 up on a regular basis now, that horrible, i even might just esn swap back to my s1/s2 for go back to wimax

This is looking good. Slower than AT&T and Verizon but still good.
Got my first taste of LTE when I was doing some work @ Bronx HS of Science last week but I wasn't too impressed to say the least.
Clocked 4M down and 1.5M up (that's the best of 5 tests too), nowhere near my expectations. I've easily gotten those speeds on WiMax.
I'm heading to Manhattan on Friday. How's the data looking for MSG & W 63rd ish areas?
Bro I'm in SI too and I have such ****ty service on most of the Island. Forget LTE, I would like some decent 3g
I live close whitePlains road lm about toTake a walk to checkout the speeds

Nice to see it's spreading closer and closer to me...Then I won't have to go outside or be by my window
The most I get by my house is 9+ down & about 3 up.
I did hit 31.67mbps down & 10.43mbps up when I was down by Jerome and Burnside in the BX earlier. That was saweeeet!
Seems like Sprint is showing the most love to the hoods 1st. Burnside wow!!

Need my Upper East Side fix! Let's get some LTE testing love over on E70th and 1st.
I was in a area of S.I. where a new tower or a upgraded tower was in place. If you go outside you get full 3g speeds. If you go inside a building my 3g went from full 3g down to 4-5kBps....terrible...
No LTE in brooklyn
I go between Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens not one drop of LTE. I was by MSG no LTE I wanna know how sprints giving the BX LTE but yet not manhattan seems ass backwards.

Hey future Evo owners. A lof of talk has been going around to say that the phone is not worth it unless you live in a 4G area, so I was curious if you guys live in a 4G area now, in an area that will soon be 4G (like NYC and LA this summer), or in a 3G area. I could not find how to make a survey, so I am just going to post the question...
I am in a 4G soon area.
Sprint posted that the Orlando Florida area will be getting 4G by end of summer
I don't live or work in a 4G area, however it's only about 25 minutes away (Tacoma, wa) so whenever I go to the "Big City" I'll have 4G.
Well worth it to me.
It'll probably bleed down here soon enough anyway.
the huge 4.3 screen is worth it! your eyes will thanks you!
Portland, OR resident here... the city where it all started
4G coverage here should be quite good since WiMAX has been live the area for ~1.5 years or so.
Live in Atlanta, so I'm covered with 4G. Pretty excited.
I go to school in a 4G area 9 months out of the year, but right now I'm stick in a town that probably won't get 4G for quite some time. Honestly, I doubt I will ever use it outside of showing off to friends thanks to campus wifi and 4G's terrible signal penetration.

Congrats dude, I lived in vegas for awhile, I miss it :/
I'm in phoenix, no 4G here(i know, 5th largest city in the US or something and no plans even, wtf.
I was surprised to find 3 cites in North Carolina have 4G coverage. Not exactly disappointed though...
I wanted the Evo for the phone, and couldn't care less about 4G until I realized last night that I have Clear coverage at work and am on its border at home! Now I'm completely overwhelmed!
I can't wait until tomorrow!
Just wondering if anyone knows when the Sarasota / Bradenton Florida area can expect to see Sprint 4G coverage. Closiest coverage area is about 30 miles north in a town called Gibsonton, just south of Tampa.
Thanks
im already receiving spotty coverage. they seem to have two towers in sarasota already; one on clark and one on 17th and one by oneco in bradenton. their coverage map is a little optimistic with coverage but from my 3rd floor apartment i can pick it up.
Thanks Bro, my office is just west of the Blue Dolphin car wash on Cortez. I do not have 4G here. But your news is good and I see light at the end of the tunnel.
Thx again....
Wow you guys really dont have 4g over there yet that sucks. Hopefully soon!!!!!
Nope, we don't. Had to drive up to Gibsonton to try it out the 1st time and even then it was spotty. A good job does take time however....
I'm south of you in Ft. Myers, and very very spotty 4G coverage just started popping up here too. I haven't actually been able to do anything on 4G yet, thats how weak it is, but at least it's a start, right?
ah, gotcha, thanks for the update and YES, a good job does take time.....
I live in Bradenton and work in Sarasota off of fruitville and honore near i75 , and can pick up a connection for MAYBE 2 minutes at a time . Near the Sarasota airport however I've picked up a signal for a decent amount of time ... hope it's coming soon, especially since Verizon's LTE kicks in on Thursday in SRQ / Bradenton

Im in Long Island,NY with no 4g..That really sucks....
Sarasota Bradenton is large and there is just a little bit in sarasota and none in Bradenton
I'm in a so called "best" coverage area and still get spotty 4G outdoors and none indoors.
I'm just outside of Tampa.
old post but update news
I am able to get 4g lte downtown b-town but kind of on/off
Cortez and 14th st area 4g lte 3-4 bars
Between university and fruit ville on 75 4g lte 2-3 bars but drops out quickly.
Wish I knew where that tower was...
I was in a sprint store and the woman turned off my 4g switch and told me to not use it because we don't have 4g in my city. She said we only have 3g (crappy towers at that). Is it possible only larger cities have 4g? I've even attempted to find maps of where the 3g towers were in my city to see if I could test the connectivity but there's nothing offered. I'm honestly not sure what to do.
Check out sprint.com they have a map that overlays all there locations with 3g and 4g and what not. short answer to your question is yes. 4g is pretty limited to major US cities and even then not the whole cities. Over time they should get more coverage but we'll see how switching to lte over WiMax plays out.

I live in the US - Raleigh NC area, they have pretty decent coverage here. But seeing as I just got my phone and Sprint about 3 weeks ago I can't talk about travel at a distance. Stormglove is right, check out sprints web site.
There are like 3 towers with wimax in the whole state of Arizona but Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the nation... Go figure
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I live in Louisville, KY. Apparently there are like 2 WiMax towers here. Connection is pretty poor though, even within range of WiMax I can get repeated connects and disconnects.
I dont get how they can even advertise 4g for Sprint. The amount of towers they currently have deployed probably dont even cover 10% of the usa i bet. Theres 1 tower in my state i beleive and its not even on the sqme island as me :-( they should advertise it as such.. "sprint, slow ass 3g and 4g thats probably not even within distance of a IBM missel" cause there 4g is a fricken joke

I get great 4g in NYC 5MB/sec (in my house which is practically a dead zone for ALL phones >_>{LUCKY ME!!!!}) and 10MB/sec+ outside my house. hopefully LTE shows better results for the rest of sprint users. =(

I would just test it. I live in Prescott, Arizona, and according to sprint.com there isn't a 4g tower for miles and miles. However, on average I get 3 bars of 4g n a connection speed of about 12 mbps. So I would just flip it on every now and then and see

Well in the case of when i was in Gurnee Ill around thanksgiving they actually lost 4g.
Thanksgiving 2010 they had 4g while i was down there, Thanksgiving 2011 they no longer had 4g the week i was down there...
Strange...
i get 4g in philadelphia... although as i go about town i'd say reception is spotty at best. if i'm in a good spot 4g blazes. if i'm in a car or certain areas, it's nil.
on another note, i think wimax is more or less dead on the water? there will be no more or few towers invested in by sprint since they want to be on lte by 2013. i could be recalling this info inaccurately; also since they piggyback off clear's wimax that doesn't mean clear will cease expanding their market - but i'm not sure about any of this, so take this post as speculation.

I wonder how accurate that map is, as i supposedly have 4g.
But its sparatic at best...
Although i suppose sparatic means coverage in that area.
I would consider sprint's 4g more limited in market area's meaning most major markets but not all. Im just outside nashville, tn (not a major market) and its here & have been since june of 2010 but coverage is more spotty than anything. I work in a all glass building and its up and down like a roller coaster trying to get it to stay connected vs switching to 3g. In my home it wont even connect to 4g but not a big deal to me. Personally i would have done some research to see which area's its in b/c paying $10 for premium data isnt quite getting your money's worth in a non 4g area.
To the comment about not covering more than 10 percent of the country. It is probably a lot less than that even. But, since 80 percent of our country lives in urban environments it doesn't matter.
You won't get any type of 4G when your cruising down I-70 in BFE. But, it works fine in St. Louis or Kansas City. Even on a bigger carrier you have a similar problem.
Does anyone know if the Sprint 4G LTE will be in central Cali? I'm between Sacramento and Fresno and was wondering when and if we'll be on the new network.I want to wait it out,but everyday it gets harder with these crappy data speeds.I can't even use Pandora on 3G.It's horrible.

You're part of the Central Valley markets (I don't know if you're upper or lower with your vague location) and we have not begun yet to my knowledge. I've seen some workers working on some local towers in sacramento but nothing definite yet.
I've asked Robert aka s4gru and he has said that the earliest that work will begin is around the end of december (around now) and early january, most likely by feb-march, definite by may/june.
We're lucky Samsung is our NV OEM because they haul ass in the markets they've been deploying at. Hell, look at San Francisco market & South Bay market & Chicago market, Puerto Rico Markets compared to those of Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson. They're well ahead of Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent (Southern california OEM) in terms of actually going out there and getting things up and running. So once they begin, it should be done in no time.
Keep on the lookout for Sprint NV RRU's. The updated one basically have a box mounted directly behind a panel and is unique to sprint in terms of placement.
P.S. Sigh... NV is only a 30 minute drive down i80 from sac.. ahhhhhhhhh damnnnn you vallejo and vacavilleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...

The thing is Sammy doesn't care about market boundaries down in the bay. Wherever the towers are ready, they'll get to it.
It's soooooo close yet so far! At least we don't live at Davis. NV LTE literally a short drive away for them... anyways. All we can do is just wait and watch our local towers... =\
Side note : They're really hauling ass in the bay Area. Consecutive weeks of 50+ verified / completed towers so far.

Take this with a grain of salt but a Sprint store employee told me a couple days ago that LTE wont reach Orange County until April. He said Sprint employees hold regular meetings and he got that info from an internal Sprint memo. Hope he's right.

Hey guys there is 4g at Fresno City collage. But eh I could care less I'm far from it. I'm at meckenly and 99 there is almost no service. We have bad service here. People that have sprint here are un happy. I'm moving to cricket. I could never get at anywhere in Fresno more then 1mb connection. I live in Mountain View, work in Fremont. Usually in the San Jose area. Had AT&T before, I now like T-mobile's coverage better.
You wouldn't believe how congested AT&T's traffic is in the area until you try someone else. I now know. I even have LTE disabled (only gsm/wcdma auto) and the speed seems to be smoother and faster than AT&T LTE.

1 line unlimited, 1 line 2GB and 1 line 500mb.
$100 a month.
have not looked back.
**** you AT&T
**** you.
I'm in SF, just switched from Sprint...TMO's basic 3G coverage is better/faster than Sprint's 4G LTE.
Same price, better coverage, faster speed.
I live in San Jose and work in Fremont. Have friends in Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino. 4g speeds is good and get them almost everywhere I go, and get LTE in some of those areas I mentioned besides Fremont. My house however has been degraded to bout 2mbps or less and still no LTE. The only bad thing about Tmobile is that building penetration in some buildings isn't great like inside Target or some lounge like Temple. Overall very happy. I had Sprint for 9 years an dont regret leaving them.
EDIT: I got my s4 today and its picking up LTE where I work (fremont) but my note 2 does not. I think with the s4s better radio you will be happy when you switch.

I live in Sunnyvale and work in San Jose, i get healthy LTE coverage in both areas. I've gotten it in Mountain View, but further up the peninsula and the east bay still doesn't receive LTE. I'm getting as high as 40Mbps down at home. Absolutely no complains since my Sprint was like dial-up in comparison.

dude, SERIOUSLY. Sprint's best-case speeds were still single-digits on LTE (here in SF, anyway). There's definitely a place for dial-up speed but they should at least give you sound effects like you're connecting over phone lines: beep, beep, booooooop, SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!, beep, pop, pop, beeeeeeeeeeeeep.
Just depends where you are at in the bay. Driving along 280 heading south signal will go in and out because of the mountains. If you're near or in SF you're golden. I'm in the Penn and i typically get 4g 90% of the time. With the S4 I get much better reception then with previous phones.
This is what I would do. Port your number to t-mobile. You will have 14 days to return the device and cancel your service. Call t-mobile to confirm this just incase since they have the uncarrier plan now. You will pay for what you've used obviously. This will in turn cancel your sprint service and Sprint will charge you ETF if you're still under contract. But they give you I believe a month or I think more to come back and will give you a full refund on the ETF. You can call them to confirm this too just in case they changed their policy. Once your number is ported (took a few minutes for me) Try to go to as many places even inside buildings and see if reception is good enough for you within those 14 days. If your not happy go back to Sprint and get your ETF back. I can guarantee you though that you won't go back.
