dang data - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

ok i have the most annoying problem..no matter the rom no matter how much wipe restore wipe system wipe cache and dalvick cache..no matter what radio i install whether it be the latest or the rom already contains the latest..my dang galaxy nexus is always dropping service when it is using 3g and hspa...when i go into the settings and tell it to use 2g it will never ever drop..but as soon as i take that off ? here goes the constant dropping..its so annoying it makes the phone being on tmobile prepaid useless..see at first i thought it was tmobile screwing with me but as soon as i put my sim card in my trusty old galaxy s running slim bean 4.1.2 ...bam 3g and hspa work just damn fine..no dropping, or nothing..so then i figure "hey maybe my apn settings are wrong" nope they are exactly the same on both phones"

radios didnt work i still got data drops..to be honest the only thing that has worked which i wasnt sure if i should try was franco's milestone 6 i thought it was not gonna work *in his description he said he fixed the infamous data drops* but see i was questionable which i shouldnt have been cuz his works pretty amazing...and well it ried it and i can tether again my data has yet to cease, because before? anytime i tried to do something that required even an ounc of data the signal dropped..but now its running flawlessly and id have to say a tad bit faster than normal..so for anyone reading this just give franco's kernel a shot

Does anyone know how to do profile update and PRL update with AOKP on sprint version ? Just wondering cause I don't see them in menu maybe a dial code to get it done like the iphone ?

Not possible... only stock and cm9 have the sprint updates. You'll have to make a nandroid and flash stock/cm9 update it and restore your nandroid. I had to do this to fix data.

Any way you can explain this better? I am a noob, but understand the whole nandroid process, but what I'm having a disconnect with is flashing to stock and back to aokp with the nandroid. I have the nexus and after I installed the aokp M5 (upgraded straight from gingerbread stock), with gapps and matr1x kernel my phone won't connect to the voicemail when I press the vm icon or hold 1. It also won't connect to data services (3G). The prl and profile provision that I have to run in order to fix this issue isn't available in aokp so I'm guessing what you explained above is the only way to get this working. Hopefully this makes sense and you can help.

Had this issue with aokp M5 as well. Just do a clean install and flash the Franco kernel. Its a known issues on that build. Although I think they fixed that I their more recent builds. If that doesn't work then make a nandroid. Flash cm9 update profile and restore that nandroid. If you dont know Google how to make and restore nandroids.

jgalan, I still have full reception and can make and receive calls. The odd thing is that when I dial my own number it will connect to vm, but that is the only way. As for data service, Sprint says I have to provision in order for it to work on a nexus.
Uber, i'll try your advise tonight with the Franco and see if that fixes things, would you install the kernel through CWR or through rom manager? If it doesn't work, i'll run the nandroid method. It just sounded counter-intuitive to me, which is why I was confused. And i'm guessing by flashing to CM9 you mean to install that ROM once I create a nandroid of the aokp then restore it after everything is working.
Would you guys suggest installing build 37 or it is best to wait for a Milestone since I am having all these issues?

Sounds like it might be a radio issue some how. You downloaded the toroplus version right? And I would recommended flashing a stable build and update prl and profile and after that flash whichever rom you want

Because the galaxy nexus has never had gb..

thanks jgalan, i'll try that all tonight. In the meantime I have sprint sending me a replacement phone so I can try it on both.
Epix, the only place on the web I found someone having a similar issue than mine was here. I assumed from everything I have read throughout the web that my phone (Nexus S 4g) and the galaxy nexus are pretty much identical when it comes to the aokp, although nothing is purely identical. Sorry for posting here and not making that clear, that is how I had GB.
In any event, I will be trying what uber and jgalan advised and if neither works I will try it on the new phone that is in route for delivery as we speak.

Nandroids backup the internal make up not your network. You should just flash build 37 they have fixed the signal issue that occured in Milestone 5. You should be just fine flashing that and your normal kernel.

The reason prl/profile update isn't in Aokp is the devs don't have a Sprint Gnexus or it would be.. Idk if you guys already know, I'm sure you probably do but BlackIce Kangorade has roaming update now and I've been on it a week and its been great. Aokp +themed with some extras.. Yeah this app wouldn't let me edit my post to link just a sec ago when i posted that...lol. Hope its going to be in 38. Great idea!
Flashing the build 37 fixed just about everything. I had to also manually change what holding the number 1 (voicemail) button would dial within my dialing settings. That new taskbar widget looks legit and i can't wait until that build is released.
Thanks you everyone for your feedback over the week!

So I am on a KOODO Samsung Galaxy II X and have been running CM9 no problem.
I wanted to run the new AOKP Jellybean 1 and it works great except I have no mobile data. Everything else seemd to work ok including WIFI.
I wiped thoroughly during flashing with darkside super wipe, and cache wipe ll and tried a few times so I dont think it was an install issue but I am a noob so any help would be appreciated.

Yes it did work.

I have heard about these issues with gapps. The rotation issue is a very common problem and I know that there is a .zip file that you should be able to flash in CWM recovery. I'm not sure where it is, but it should be in the Development section of our phone somewhere.
Now for the external sd card issue, I haven't really heard much about that. I myself am on the stock firmware so I haven't encountered many issues, but this quite possibly could be a common bug for that particular ROM. My suggestion, use search and look through the specific thread for the ROM. Hopefully you should be able to find some answers there.
ANyway, I'm glad to hear that the data is working at least

yes thats weird cause I did full a wipe using darkside super wipe and cache wipe as well as factory reset. Ive gone back to cm9 for now. I dont have endless time to track this stuff down.
I would use the Jedi Mind Tricks rom but I believe it looks like the stock samsung rom which I find kind of ugly, even though it may be very functional. Although I havent researched it that much.

Well in 4.1.2 (NexusMod Reloaded) with K3 modem, the data droppage rate was absolutely terrible. However with the h9 modem, it was more bearable. 3g would wink out for a couple seconds and reconnect immediately although juicedefender still wasnt working too well. I say, create a nandroid backup and flash a 4.1 rom of your choice. Run with it for a couple days and if youre still having issues, go back to your backup. As long as you don't upgrade your modem, shouldnt be too bad.

Try the update again and see what happens. Did you do a factory reset the last time you did the update? If not I would give that a try if the problem happens again after the update. Reading through various forums, it seems that a factory reset after the update has fixed some of the issues people are having.

Odd...I've actually had exactly the opposite experience with the new modem. My cellular connection seems to be a bit stronger and my wifi range has increased significantly. Whereas with the H9 build, I could only go a couple of rooms over from the router in my house and still maintain a wifi connection. Now I can go anywhere inside the house and still have a connection.

Yeah I did a full factory reset thrice . I was even having the problem where most of my calls I would make would beep once then disconnect and the phone would go to the lock screen.

My issue that I experienced ever since I flashed the ATT official JB update was that I could send texts and use data and everything, but my contacts would go missing, I couldn't receive text messages and since my contacts would go missing the people in my messaging app would show their number and not their name. I would restart my phone and it would work for a little bit and then would go back out again.
I also switched from the LoserRom which is when I first started experiencing this. I don't think it's ROM related as far as what the developer is doing because I'm experiencing the same thing on ktoonsez AOKP rom.
I also thought it was modem related so I flashed my the LH1 to the CDLK3 Modem and was still experiencing issues. So I went to the CLI5 modem and it was still not receiving texts.
I started to think its my sim card. I turned my phone off took the sim card out and put it back in and powered my phone on. It seems to be working now.
Sorry for this kind of lengthy and out of order.
Please if you have any idea or have experienced this issue as well, please let me know.

I'm not an expert....but if u install rom and radio...I don't see how any previous roms or radios can affect your phone. but maybe im wrong. I did have to manually add my apn info flashing telus radio on jedi jelly. Maybe you have to now for some reason??

All of my apn information is correct. I flashed UVLC8 radio and it works now; however, MMS is not working...

Same problm but mine didnt even workd after uvlc8
And your sure you have no signal? I only ask because you know that one the new SR JB ports like Jedi Jelly the signal bar shows that it has no signal, but in reality it has normal signal.
Mine shows no signal, but I have full signal in reality.

in reality it shows no signal and when i search and try to register on network it wont. and same happens on stock.
After doing more testing and flashing on different roms, I think the problem for me might be that I only use the GSM/2G networks rather than the WCDMA/GSM auto or 4G/HSPA+ option. After switching back to the WCDMA/GSM auto option, it seems to work and I get a signal on all roms except skyrocket ports...I wonder why it does that. This should definitely be looked into.
Skyrocket 4.12 roms work...but show no signal. It's a known issue.

[Q] LiquidSmooth RC8 Problems

So I downloaded and flashed the LiquidSmooth that i got from galaxys2rootdotcom since I couldnt find any downloads here.. Im on android 4.1.2 Of course, running mod version Liquid-JB-v2.0-RC8 and kernel [email protected] #1.
Now to the problems, The main one is my data its constantly switching from H+ down to H then back to 3g Then H, H+. Tried switching the network mode and that didnt work went into my apn settings and changing the protocol from Ipv4 to ipv4/ipv6 that didnt work either, keep in mind i unlocked my phone and now running off straight talk via the at&t sim.
Second is the gps, tried going to maps and getting directions and it wouldnt show my location.
Third is the calling, when i call people they told me it sounds like im in a tunnel. So its probably echoing.
Hopefully I can get some answers and maybe help others who have the same problems.
