Htcdev.com just released the official unlock for the HTC Desire.
Does this help anyone or mean anything at all?
Revolutionary and alpharev been doing it for ages now

It will work for the 2.3.3 official?

With official unlock you loose your guaranty forever... With revolutionary and alpharev you can always restore your old stock s-on hboot and pretend you've never had another)

An 'official' method released by HTC to try and 'break' our phone? How is it a disadvantage. LOL

You guys mix something up here. So I think I should bring light into the darkness.
Firstly, what is a bootloader?
The bootloader is part of the phone's Firmware. It's the absolute basis (like the BIOS in computer). After turning on your phone the bootloader manages, what in which order happens.
What is a locked bootloader?
With a locked bootloader it's impossible to change the software of the phone (Hboot, ROM, recovery). This prevents inexperienced users from damaging their phones accidentally.
Why it's good to have an unlocked bootloader?
An unlocked bootloader has a big advangates (flash a different Hboot, Rom, Kernels, special scripts, backup apps, etc). And so the community (AlphaRev, Revolutionary) developed methods to unlock the bootloader. These methods also bypass the signature-check by the manufacturer (like HTC) which makes it possible to flash custom roms or hboots.
But if that signature has an encryption, it's nearly impossible to modify the bootloader in the explained way.
How works the encryption of the bootloader?
The encryption of this bootloader (digital signature) causes that only the software which corresponds with imaginings of the manufacturer (in our case HTC) because the digital signature can only be openend by one special key.
Is it really impossible to bypass this digital signature?
No. With methods like AlphaRevX can even bootloaders with this signature be unlocked. But this method does not work for much phones. Furthermore, if a phone has this type of bootloader the risk to brick the phone by attempting to unlock the bootloader is much higher.
What is the official unlock for the Bootloader by HTC?
The official unlock for the bootloader removes the encryption of the bootloader which makes it much more easier (or rather possible) to unlock the bootloader.
Do we need the unlock for the bootloader for the HTC Desire?
As far as I understand, no. Because the Desire never had an encrypted bootloader.
I hope, I chould bring light into the darkness.

Well, if you have curly hands, you'll break your phone even with the "official" method. lol

A bunch of questions:
Anyone tried this?
What the new hboot functionality looks like?
Or it's an updated stock recovery with an option to pick up any unsigned archive?
Is it S-ON after? Possible to S-OFF again?
ps: I wish to try this, but I'm afraid there will be no downgrade the new stuff which could be functionally restricted.
pps: none of two ruu in the archive worked saying "wrong model" for my desire with stock 2.3.3 from htcdev and revolutionary patched bootloader.

no. It lists all the software versions in the documentation and none of them start 3.x
Ok, I've downgraded my Desire to 2.29.405.5 (including hboot). Then checked FOTA updated and got 2.29.405.14. This is what the requirements list demands for unlocking the bootloader (unbranded, bought in EU).
The preunlock package from htcdev had two RUUs:
MarvelCT_UnlockBootLoader_APTG_1.05.709.01_RUU.exe
MarvelCT_UnlockBootLoader_CT_1.06.1401.4_RUU.exe
They had a rom.zip inside with files android-info.txt and hboot_1.04.0000.nb0.
The hboot_1.04.0000.nb0 images are same.
The APTG's android-info.txt had:
modelid: PG7623000
cidnum: HTC__621
hbootpreupdate:13
mainver: 1.05.709.01
DelCache: 1
The CT's android-info.txt had:
modelid: PG7623000
cidnum: HTCCN702
hbootpreupdate:13
mainver: 1.06.1401.4
DelCache: 1
And non of these RUU worked for me saying "wrong id model".
Anyone managed to unlock the bootloader using this tool? Anyone has more information on this stuff?

The 2 ruus doesn't seems for the unbranded desire, but for a branded one..
Just use revolutionary.io.
With revolutionary you don't loose warranty and have full bootloader unlocked.

It should be for unbranded devices because the download link was named "HTC EU".
And actually this file (Marvel_CT.zip) is offered for many of other branded models as well as for HTC EU.
ps: the point is to apply official unlock, not a thirdparty one. It's security issue.

For security issues, then you should leave it locked.
There is no security issues with revolutionary, thousands of people did it with no issues.
With the official one you will be probably more locked than before as you can't go back.

Does annoy me when people give answers like that. I'm sure he knows that we can unlock the bootloader with other methods but that wasn't the question that this whole thread is based around.
He's curious to try the official unlocked bootloader. I'd like to see what it's like and know more about it too. This is why most of us are on these forums. We like to tweak and hack for no real reason other than curiosity

heh thats exactly my thoughts too.
I know people are hesitant though due to the fact it requires a hboot update...
when I get a new phone and my current desire becomes my work phone I will try it.

people must learn to talk clearly...if he know the revolutionary method (most people don't know it at all..as every day someone ask how to root the official gb 2.3.3), he must say clearly at the first post (he should say: "I know there is revolutionary, but for curiosity i want try the htc official unlock...")
instead he said only that the htc official unlock doesn't work, so i suggest revolutionary..again he replied don't want apply revolutionary for security issue (what??)
so what u said "I'm sure he knows that we can unlock .." and "He's curious to " are both wrong or only assumptions, as I can know ONLY what he say. this is how to solve a problem in a rational way..my response is given only based on what he said (he didn't said curiosity or revolutionary)
if you want to try the official htc unlock JUST for curiosity, THEN there is nothing wrong, I'm also curios about that.

But your post makes no sense, he clearly said he downgraded his HBOOT, so it
stands to reason he had already used one of the unlocking methods previously
or he wouldn't have been able to downgrade the HBOOt, no?
Anyway, let's not squabble over nothing and get back to the matter at hand

You are right, I had s-off'ed hboot by rev.io before. That's why I've downgraded everything to make the official stuff work, but no success.
I sent a request to htc support from the official site about this issue but... considering the answer I suppose they still don't know about just published unlock for desire.
What I noticed is that cidnum of my phone (HTC__203) is very different from the one in the android-info.txt file.
Well, technically it's possible to push the offered hboot image without ruu, but I'm not risking... my backup phone is no joy
seems HTC updated link to HBOOT for some devices to PB9920000_Bravo_Froyo_hboot_1.03.0003_R.exe.
Has anyone tried official unlock with this HBOOT?
I think we'll get same functionality as modern HTC models unlocking whose bootloaders was supported first. This question should go to appropriate forum but: any owner or HTC Sensation/Desire S here who unlocked the bootloader using official way? How is it compared to rev.io? Any restrictions?
I have a Rogers HOX using the AT&T RUU, anyways I unlocked the bootloader, by doing this can I use a custom rom, or use the unlocked bootloader to root my HOX? Thanks.
post in the rogers/at&t forum, rather than the international version
and whilst i know next to nothing about custom roms, you should be able to with bootloader unlocked. i'm sure there will be some relevant info in the app development section of the rogers HOX forum
Hi guys, I'm new to the HTC One X (Tegra 3 Version). I wish to root my device without unlocking the BootLoader, for warranty purposes. Is this possible? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm kinda new.
Oh, and another question, when/if the One X finally get S-OFF will that be able to remove the BootLoader 'Tamper Flag' (The thing that says Locked, Unlocked or Re-locked)
Thankyou for taking the time to read this.
No it can't be done without S-OFF
for now exists only temp root, which might cause problems, and the limit of this way is that on reboot you lose it.
only way for now is unlocking bl with htcdev and then you can root and install custom roms etc. etc..
or wait for s-off (can be long waiting as can be short one, nobody know)
Hey guys,
I have one small question for you as I'm going nuts!
I'm sorry if this question was already answered, I couldn't find it...
Anyway, Is there a way to root the HTC One X (mine is the international Tegra model) without using HTCDev?
I don't want to use HTCDev as I'm sure they are keeping records of all devices that did root on file to avoid their warranty if needed...
I hope I'm mistaken here but I guess you can understand my concern...(after paying $750 for it you wanna keep the warranty)
Thanks a lot guys !
unless your device is S-OFF, you will HAVE to use htcdev to unlock your bootloader ; to check boot into bootloader mode (Power + Vol Down)
Ps. not the correct forum to post in
Sorry mate as far as the Tegra is concerned there is no way to root skipping HTC Dev,only if your phone was for AT&T(evita),it would have been possible
As per the answers above, there is no alternative.
Thread Closed.
Noob Alert
Hi, I Just picked up the HTC One X earlier last month and decided that I wouldn't root until I realized that there's certain apps I use that won't run without root (sixaxis controller for example) so after I had already updated to 4.1.1, I figured that I'd enable USB debugging and so that I could receive root access using Hasoon 2000's simple all in one toolkit, however I can't get the xFactor root exploit that changes your CID working..
I'll get prompted to restore first backup, which doesn't work (starts, then ends immediately), it automatically tries a second time, then sends me to the bootloader. I then get prompted to check my CID before I proceed, and it still hasn't changed from my original 'Rogers01" CID to the 1111-sequence of numbers. I have the latest HTC drivers installed for my One X..
Anyone have a clue on what's going on here? Could this be happening because I updated?
You have an evita or a endeavoru ?
Dual-core of quad-core phone ?
I have the Dual core for sure, I think that's the evita?
Ah yes, then you are in the wrong forum. Don't flash anything from this forum !
Go to the HTC one XL, rogers forum

Nvm, checked the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
these are all my specs..
Those are all codenames. If the bootloader say EVITA you need to be in the one XL forum
