Hey all, tried some some research on this issue but couldn't find solutions that addressed the issues. Here it goes..
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 currently running CM10 (by team chopsticks). It has come to my attention that since installing the ROM, my cell reception is down to 0 bars.. sometimes 1 or 2. This is weird because I usually have full service in my apartment. As directed on their website, I flashed UVLE1 radio, then install the rom, then install gaaps. However, I later found another radio called UVLH1... so, Question #1: What is the difference is between these two?
Question #2: anyone have a solution for this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Was I not supposed to flash any radios in the first place?
Question #3: When I make phone calls people tell me they can barely hear me if i talk into the phone HOWEVER they can hear me perfectly if i speak into my bluetooth headset.. is this a radio issue or is there something wrong with my phone itself?
Question #4: Lastly, the 4G data works intermittently in my apartment this is unusual as I usually have full bars and steady 4g connection at all times.. could this be caused by the radio also?
any help would be great... thank you all so much for your time
Go flash the note radio. Lg3.

Go to phone>settings>turn on noise suppression to fic call quality issues, its a known bug on cm10, jelly bean roms. Radio deals with wifi, data and gps so depending on which you flash they all might be affected.
This is the link to the flashable modems... some might work better than others. I suggest you flash with TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1895400

It is when you consider that "LG3" is in the title of the file name, so technically he gave you all the info you needed.
In fact, if you type in T989 LG3 radio into google, the first link will take you to the list of radios.

Or is it the actual stock radio
Awesome! Thank you so much for this Mr.X.

I'm not sure fi wifi calling requires the tmobile modem, so it's really up to you guys to test and report in. What i can tell you is these modems will not damage your device.
they all work for me on telus (with exception of the DoMoCo one, since have no networks it supports here) However using the tmobile and rogers radio cut my HSPA+ speeds down to HSPA as the radios appear not to support dual channeling of HSPA on 850/1900 like telus needs.
for some reason it wont install on CM7 i have tried CWM and ROMmanager, no go on either, its the Tmobile vk1 radio

Diffrent radios might increase reception in some areas, increase download speeds and might improve battery life or they can do the opposite and be detrimental to recepition, download speeds and battery.... Users results may vary. Flash and test for your self.

Generally fastboot is the safest method because of the bit check before flashing but I run the G2/ HTC Vision radio thread and as long as the MD5 matches it pretty safe, out of over 10000 downloads of my G2 flashable radio zips I think ive only seen 1 brick but even that one couldnt 100 percent be connected to the flashable zip so in general I thinks its very safe.

Gotta love when Mr. Know it all comes in to the thread and actually does not know it all.
Yes you can run skyrocket roms but you have to flash a T-mobile SGSII kernel so that the auto rotation works properly. You also would have to add the T-mobile APN. You don't have to change your modem as stated above.

I thought the skyrocket modem needs more than the APN to get 4G since ATT and Tmobile high speed run on different bands.
I'm assuming he wants all the features in use ie that he gets 4g

The exact reason you came into this thread and posted your answer was because you said nobody was answering the question. Now you are doing the SAME THING.

He did not ask how to use a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II on AT&T....which seems to be what you are describing, now that you realize you are wrong in regards to the original question.

Actually! you also need to flash the conversion zip to have a few small things working, i forgot what... but it is needed.
Furthermore, it has been said that T-mobile has changed the way APN works and seems to be working with any APN used except NULL... WHY? they figured out our throttled workaround...
and yeah... you don't need to change the modem because the modem never changed when flashing a skyrocket rom..

yeah but people say to get gps working properly, you need to flash the conversion zip? I'm not sure, but test your gps and see if it's working. I just opened up the conversion zip and it does have a gps config file in there, but i also notice it has a kernel in there. so i would suggest flashing the conversion zip prior to flashing a kernel.

They have to deal with the signal and data speeds. The lb7 is the radio from the Blaze and it's supposed to get faster download speeds. I've read mixed results so the best thing usually to do is flash them each one at a time and see what gives you the individual the best results. That's how I came to using the lb7 after not getting any data what-so-ever on a few others

way to post quality posts and get your count up to 10 bud. I hit u up with a thanks too.
I'm going to post the correct definition of a "radio" now:
Radio's/Modems (term used interchangeably on xda) refer to the firmware used by your phone to allow the android phone to communicate one a hardware level with the internal radio in your cell phone. As all of you know cellphones are just REALLY advanced radios. This firmware is basically low level user in-accessible software, almost a little operating system of sorts, that controls the phones radio. Different radios have different features and are written differenty. Some favour connectivity, allowing for you to catch a signal anywhere, whereas others sacrifice slight connectivity for raw speed, giving you better data speeds when you do catch a signal.
On a side note, since our phones are LTE i will let you in on a little secret. When you make a phone call your phone actually drops down to 4g. LTE is not for voice, data only.

The T989 does not have LTE. Our "4G" is HSPA+.

Ok I kind of understand the whole Radio thing, but upon flashing the Nexus rom 3.8 on my T989, my 4G still works. Should I flash the LB7 radio on my phone regardless to squeeze out the best performance of data speed? I live in Atlanta.

Hi all. Sorry if this is any trouble. I have done quite a bit of research and can't quite pinpoint this problem I'm having.
I'm running Synergy r443 with the kernel that fixed the screen rotating issue. KT747 I believe. And I can't connect to my 3g data network. Upon booting my phone I get this green checkmark that says "preparing network..." it's constantly there and never finishes. I've called T-mobile and they can't fix anything. They want me to go into a T-mobile store, which seems like a bad idea because I'm rooted. I have a backup on my phone which is a rooted stock version and 3g works fine when I revert back to that. I'm thinking maybe there is a problem with the kernel I'm using, and it's not compatible with whatever magic is connecting me to 3g.
My question to you knowledgeable fellows is whether or not this kernel could be causing me problems. If so, then what is a good kernel to use with the Synergy r443 rom? Or could it possibly be something else? Any way I could get help would be greatly appreciated. And I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this.
Thanks,
Alex
Just test things yourself. Make a backup and do a full wipe and flash the rom without the kernel.

Alex, I doubt it is a kernel issue. Many people have used that kernel on a wide variety of setups. I suggest to post your issue in the KT kernel thread in the general section. Some people monitor that thread that may be able to help you.

Of course it is. When I say modem I mean the radios, in which affect your data. You can flash any of the radios intended for OUR device ONLY. Each one can reflect your overall signal, which is why it's good to test them all and see which works best for you.

lol not at all bro. I love android and helping android users to the best of my knowledge.
In short a logcat basically filters out all sorts of messages to a log on what the system is generating in the background. These readings filter out things including errors and what's causing them. You can learn more about it and how to use it below.

Im thinking of installing a different rom that may work, suggestions?
I don't like to suggest roms.... I say try them all. Lol Everyone has different needs and tastes.... So it's pointless to give my opinion.
But yes... Flashing a new rom should fix it. Just make sure to read the opening post for instructions.... Carefully. Reading through the last however many pages of the thread is always a smart idea also. You'll find out about bugs and stuff, and see what folks at saying about it.
