I am sad. And alone, so very alone. Well I guess not that sad. But I think it's a bad move to not have a nexus device available on all carriers. Maybe a delayed release will occur?
Considering the small number of people on Verizon that would actually buy a Nexus 4 compared to the sales worldwide, and the disproportionate amount of hassle/hoops Google would have to jump through to offer it on Verizon, I don't think it's that big of a loss to Google.

I don't blame Google. Until I can get a $30/month LTE plan, I'll suffer through my HSPA+ on T-Mobile.
Heres my thoughts: THANK GOODNESS!!!
All the Verizon Nexus did...and I mean ALL..was give the "nexus" brand of phones a bad name because of their RIDICULOUS update laziness. Anyway, where I live there's no LTE on AT&T or Verizon so I don't really care
I'm getting this phone..what about you guys? Of course i'm keeping my current nexus. Its one of the best phones I've ever had and getting the 8gb Nexus 4.

The yakjuxx variants were/are SLOWER to update. I guess your memory is selective. It didn't do anything to the Nexus name either. Sprint is slower too, and it gets Nexus devices yet I don't see you *****ing about them.

I'm not surprised by the decision but I don't think it has to so with verizon's handling of the galaxy nexus other than the standard blocking of unlocked devices bit that Verizon does. I don't know if I want Verizon to change their ways there, google to work out an unlocked devices deal with them, or Google to give in and just sell a Verizon nexus verizon's way. I guess I just find all the cacophony of U.S. cellphone bands annoying. I could just about survive fine on lte only at this point with Verizon...if they get volte up and running and let me buy such a device. I suppose how unlocked devices will get on eventually...but it feels too far away.

Although, I will say I have been impressed with their service. I get signal in places I never got on T-Mobile. But what's a missed call?
I am also disgusted but their service is too good to leave and they know that. Oh well, maybe 2 years from now it'll all be VoLTE when my next contract is up.

I am relieved that Verizon isn't getting the next Nexus. Verizon's exclusivity and subsequent delay with releasing the Galaxy Nexus late last pretty much ruined the launch of the phone.
Many people had to resort to importing overpriced international models because no unlocked UMTS/HSPA was available in the USA for MONTHS.
Google is doing it correctly for the consumer this time. One phone running a global standard radio at a GREAT price.
I just wish I had $1000 laying around so that I could buy all of the devices they just announced.

First of all, Verizon didn't ruin any launch but their own. The GSM Galaxy Nexus launched before it. If you are GSM, it didn't affect you at all.

Does look tempting because it's a Nexus and future OS updates will definitely be coming to it asap. The hardware specs are actually not even as good as the Epic 4G Touch, its all software and LTE that make that phone look worthwhile to me.... and I think software will in time be equal.

the way sprint moves, my 2 year contract with this phone will be up before LTE gets even close to me, so that's not a factor in my decision. and I've honestly been uninspired by all of the nexus devices. I mean from a support standpoint you can't beat them, but I like the bells and whistles. I got the OG epic over the nexus S and never regretted it and since upgrading to the sgs2, I haven't looked back.
we have a beast device, but history dictates that uber development takes time to ramp up on these sprint devices. the og epic dev thread looks more fun now than it did when I left, and the devs we do have right now are cranking out some crazy stuff.

I'd give it a couple weeks after it comes out to see whats wrong with it and how the LTE network holds up, before trade out for it.
I'll be giving it a few months after release and see how things shape up with both the phone and Sprint's LTE deployment. Although if I buy any phone within my 2 year contract the GS3 or whatever this year's Samsung flagship will be is still at the top of my list. I haven't written HTC off either. I have a feeling they will turn it around on Sprint this year now that LTE is coming. 2011 was a very weak year for HTC/Sprint.
well although it is tempting apple is suing for patent infringement on the nexus. they need to stop ****ing suing companies that make their damn chips. I ****ing hate apple because they aren't allowing for competition. they choose to sue the hell out of everyone. even if the somehow ridded the cellphone industry of android(impossible I know lol) I would still go to something else like a winmo or blackberry. apple will never get my money.

I've spent time traveling around the Kansas City, KS metro area, and it seems most places are lit up now, especially in Olathe. Average speeds are a little disappointing considering these towers should have very little load. I've done approximately 350 speed tests so far.
I'm getting a consistant average of 10mbps down/up around the entire metro, with highs of 13mbps down/up and lows of 8mbps down/up during the day. Late at night speeds are 15mbps down/up around the metro for me. In my basement I only get about 6-7mbps down/up (with 0-1 bars) no matter the time of day.
The latency is outstanding! I've had pings as low as 42ms. The highest I have seen is 70ms, and the average is about 55ms. Great for remote desktop and video chat
I'll keep this updated with my findings. Highest test I have pulled so far has been 20 down/15 up.
Don't think so. Not here in Dallas yet.

Yes, because they treat their customer base with indifference, they don't deserve another Nexus. I don't care what they did or didn't promise, I do care that they are the only network to put such stringent requirements on Samsung. It's all about the wording. T-mobile will say they have the fastest 4G network (HSPA+) which is true. And in AT&T commercials they claim to have the largest 4G network..which is also true. Neither carrier even touches on LTE when talking about largest or fastest, because they can't compete there.
Verizon is fastest i think

On what device? You need to compare same device, otherwise its pointless.
Allow me to explain. Android uses buffers for the network in the initramfs. Manufacturers like to tweak these. You can essentially trick a speedtest into reporting over 100Mbps down. This is how the Thunderbolt was pulling 60+ with LTE at times.
Speedtests are fun but fall under the same trap as most benchmarks, and are really not indicative of true performance.

I bubble still there. It hasn't burst at all. I read a similar article a month ago. But like I said, rumors lol

Pretty much this. You have to show me a Nexus that is impossible to resist for me to leave the Gnex.
As for software, everybody should have been expecting 4.3 according to all the evidence and history and I'll be glad to get it once it hits AOSP.

I hope they announce a new Nexus that Verizon is getting. I've been sitting on an upgrade for a while.
I don't need a new Nexus as long as my GNEX is receiving the coming updates.
I'm looking forward to the influx of threads being created after I/O about the latest android build. It becomes such a festive time while everyone is rapidly spamming "check for updates"

Why do we need another Google io thread?
Tapatyping
No.
They take a year to release a new device, and there did not have a track record of doing minor changes to a current product as far as I know........

Official support might be ending this year October, better jump on custom ROMs.

Yes but our 18 month cycle is almost up. 4.3 maybe our last so hopefully they make it good.
My question is when my two year ends this September, whether I should get a nexus 4/5 or the X phone. I want the iPhone of Google for update purposes and don't want to have many different models claiming to be pure but when updates come it takes months.
I/O
I really like/hate android news sites as most stuff is already revealed.
I just hope Google has some servers up ready to give us some stuff tomorrow like babel, play games, maybe 4.3.

The Devs here at XDA will keep this phone going whether Google supports it or not. I'm not worried about it.

The nexus 4 DID ship with LTE but it was removed via software to avoid FCC fines as it was never tested an/or certified.

So there is no need for Google to put out a nexus "4G".
I have all ready seen several places that the new model numbers will be Nexus 5, 8, & 11 and the new os "Key Lime Pie" will be either version 4.3 or 5.0.

Also several sources have confirmed that jus as it was with the upgrade from ICS to JB it will be "pushed" to all existing nexus devices. The only nexus phones no Lange receiving updates is the original HTC Nexis One, and the HTC G1 which still unofficially support JB.
