It's cool it's $99 now with a 2 year contract, but they turned it into the Samsung Galaxy Nexus III:

Anyone else get a good chuckle out of this? I know *why* they did it, but still.
"By Samsung" and the Samsung logo seemed sufficient enough as well as the voice over.
That's how much I paid for mine back in February. Had an authorized retailer price match Amazon.

I meant the samsung logo above the screen more than the price drop
Looks like Verizon thinks the samsung name has a lot of value. Hopefully enough of the nexus sold to justify carrying the next one.

The local Verizon store I go to all of the customer service people had galaxy nexus phones we were comparing them one day and all 4 that were in there had gnex. Even talked about cm9 and such.

How so? Google made it AOSP so they obviously don't mind it. Also, Verizon is welcoming more higher end Android phones as of late to compete with other carriers. There's not many reasons for them not to carry the next Nexus.

That's the S3, not the nexus. All because they lock a different phone, that shouldn't botch the chances of another nexus. Also note that they've locked nearly every Motorola bootloader they've come across. And all of their HTC phones are also locked so why even point out the S3? Both are made by Samsung? Big deal. The S3 was never PROMISED an unlocked bootloader or straight support from Google to begin with.

I just got a Verizon Nexus for $9.99 and free shipping from newegg.com..
Even got a free desktop dock and $25 in newegg.com credit....
I have a Tmobile S3 and we are switching to Verizon, but I could not bring myself to paying $150 for the S3 when the Nexus was $10!!!
Agreed, I hope Verizon gets another Nexus. I wouldn't get anything else now.
I'm done with Verizon when my contract is up in 2014, until then, I'll enjoy my unlimited data.

Yes, because they treat their customer base with indifference, they don't deserve another Nexus. I don't care what they did or didn't promise, I do care that they are the only network to put such stringent requirements on Samsung. My point is if Verizon does get another Nexus, this time it may very well be a faux Nexus with an encrypted boot loader.

Just pre-ordered mine $199 + $50 google wallet credit so $150 total not bad. The EVO has a bigger screen but the sealed battery is a deal breaker. I hate the TWiz stuff so I don't think the SGS3 will be too much better, if at all. It will have a better Camera I'm sure.
Nah... I'll have to pass. I always wanted a Nexus device, but this one is just way too inferior for me to invest in. I'll definitely wait for the SG3 when that comes out.

I was just about the post the $50 credit for Google Wallet. I wonder if Sprint will allow me to push an early upgrade out of it? I may just have to buy it from someone else with my E4GT and some cash, but overall, I really want it. lol
So my line with the e4gt is ready for a upgrade and my wife line that she said I can have her upgrade will be ready in august. So I'm thinking about trading my e4gt for the nexus due to more rom support, then use my wife upgrade for the sg3.
Don't know what to do!

The good ol' hand me downs. If you're really that adamant on getting the SGS3, you may aswel hold out for it, so you're not stuck with a phone for 2 years. There will be another phone in the next year you'll want, and you'll be out of upgrades if you use them both this year.

There is more then one kind of Nexus, are you sure there not referring to the GSM nexus, Verizon is CDMA I don't remember seeing a SIM card slot or an IMEI. The GSM version can be permanently unlocked to other GSM carriers, although I didn't know about the trustworthy-ness of that particular site. The CDMA versions like Verizon can only be unlocked to other CDMA carriers. It is also good to know if the CDMA carrier you are moving to will let you active a Verizon MEID before you pay to have it unlocked or flashed to that carrier.

So I had the Verizon Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean and today I sold my nexus and bought the SIII. I never realized how much software matters over hardware! Sure the SIII has more ram and a slightly better camera but I will tell you while I miss my nexus!!!!!
1. Stock OS - I hate the fact why on my SIII I cant organize my apps into other app folders. I feel like I am running android 2.4 and not 4.04!
2. Jelly Bean- I love project butter (even though the Siii is still smooth) and I way prefer googles voice assistant alot more
3. Build- I think I am one of the few that prefer the the size and material of the nexus. Even though the nexus is close in size, I still feel the
S3 is just too big. Not to mention I prefer the rubberized feel on the nexus.
4. On screen menu keys. Just have not got used to the S3 and dont know if I ever will.
5. Ability to swap roms. Being that verizon has a locked bootloader on the S3 and there are no working Jelly bean roms, I feel by the time
Verizon upgrades to Jelly Bean I will be counting down the days till the Galaxy Nexus 4 comes out!!!!
*****Thinking about selling my S3, but dont want to waste an upgrade on a new phone so just may give it to family and buy my nexus back***
Bottom line.... I miss my nexus
That's why I did not buy it

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
even though you can slap a cyanogen onto a non-nexus device, it will took longer than on nexus. On Nexus, Google update new version, the longest you have to wait is one week before a build is surfacing. But nowadays our dev are super so it only took few hours lolz, and with pretty much everything working most importantly.
With non-nexus, NO~~ it took ages to wait for this driver, that source code wtf wtf bla bla bla~~ I've been there with SGS2 and One X, regretted my choice. and you cant enjoy the true feeling of AOSP too. you'll notice you need TW or Sense for a better hardware experience like the camera, etc etc.
oh as asdfasd2 said, yes i agree. Samsung does sucks with their source codes. CM was long enough on SGS2 and still, after they release the codes, devs are having headaches fixing what were supposed to be fixed. Luckily Nexus S and Gnexus are handled by Google, not them.
i must confess i was feeling a little tempted myself but ever since the nexus 7 release i cant take the damn table off my mind just waiting a couple of weeks to see if a nexus 10 is gonna be release but i cant wait a lo more

To be fair, devices in stores for demonstration are laggy for the most part. The Galaxy Nexus as well, it's not a proper way of "demoing" the phone.
It depends on what model you actually have. If its the quad s3(international i9300) you made a worst decision of your life and to sum it all up Almost all the famous devs are there.

Same experience here. Thoroughly tested the S3 already and the GNex definitely feels smoother and gives an overall beter user experience.
And as said before not everyone who buys an android smartphone can be assed rooting their phone, flashing roms, backupping everytime. It's very nice that it's possible to do with android but it should not be an obligation whilst buying a smartphone.. It should work perfect out of the box, and that's exactly what the GNex does and any other android phone manufacturer fails to do.

Considering the small number of people on Verizon that would actually buy a Nexus 4 compared to the sales worldwide, and the disproportionate amount of hassle/hoops Google would have to jump through to offer it on Verizon, I don't think it's that big of a loss to Google.

I'm getting this phone..what about you guys? Of course i'm keeping my current nexus. Its one of the best phones I've ever had and getting the 8gb Nexus 4.

The yakjuxx variants were/are SLOWER to update. I guess your memory is selective. It didn't do anything to the Nexus name either. Sprint is slower too, and it gets Nexus devices yet I don't see you *****ing about them.

Yes it didn't hurt it for people like us who flash new roms every other day, but to the non tech geeko, maybe. And your right. I forgot about the yakju variant.
And for Sprint, this thread was about Verizon not sprint. lol
away with the fake nexi!!! yesss
Not surprised. I'll stick with my GNex until my VZW contract is done and I can get the hell off them.

Dudes like rain man with this $hit
I'm not surprised by the decision but I don't think it has to so with verizon's handling of the galaxy nexus other than the standard blocking of unlocked devices bit that Verizon does. I don't know if I want Verizon to change their ways there, google to work out an unlocked devices deal with them, or Google to give in and just sell a Verizon nexus verizon's way. I guess I just find all the cacophony of U.S. cellphone bands annoying. I could just about survive fine on lte only at this point with Verizon...if they get volte up and running and let me buy such a device. I suppose how unlocked devices will get on eventually...but it feels too far away.

^^^^^This!!!
Although, I will say I have been impressed with their service. I get signal in places I never got on T-Mobile. But what's a missed call?
I am also disgusted but their service is too good to leave and they know that. Oh well, maybe 2 years from now it'll all be VoLTE when my next contract is up.

I am relieved that Verizon isn't getting the next Nexus. Verizon's exclusivity and subsequent delay with releasing the Galaxy Nexus late last pretty much ruined the launch of the phone.
Many people had to resort to importing overpriced international models because no unlocked UMTS/HSPA was available in the USA for MONTHS.
Google is doing it correctly for the consumer this time. One phone running a global standard radio at a GREAT price.
I just wish I had $1000 laying around so that I could buy all of the devices they just announced.

First of all, Verizon didn't ruin any launch but their own. The GSM Galaxy Nexus launched before it. If you are GSM, it didn't affect you at all.
Stop the nonsense please.
