I set my dpi on this phone to 240 and I LOVE it and the market still works fine so far! Just wondering how i can mod the dialer/camera to fit the 240 dpi. And also the stock keyboard dosent work but i dont care much about that i use swiftkey 3.
Shame the standard keyboard doesn't work, I really like it.
As to the dialer? hmm, probably need to get a replacement for that too, shame it doesn't scale either. Someone can probably hack the .apk to allow different dpi's perhaps?

Change the value for ro.sf.lcd_density in the build.prop. You can do this with apps like ROM Toolbox Pro.
I was running 240 as well, and loved it but the camera, dialer and Samsung keyboard issues bugged me enough to go back to 320.
I have mine set at 270 and everything, including dialer and camera works great.

use a different launcher. I use nova
So no suggestions for dialers or camera mods that fix the scaling issues. They are better at 270 but not perfect.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001143
it's on the Sprint Note II forum but I flashed them and they all work well.
soapbox23, what rom are you using? I am on Jexi-X4 and it doesnt work...
Found this rom:

Works very well at 240 dpi, it has most of the system apps fixed that dont scale well. Need to flash keyboard zip in the QA page though for 240 dpi.

Now that we have root is it going to be worth messing with this phone's pixel density? I would like the icons to be a little smaller and sharper but if changing the pixel density is going to have negative cascading effects with the phone I am pretty happy with where my phone is now with running Launcher Pro.
If it is going to make sense to mess with the density what application would I need to make those changes?
Thanks again!
it will always have some side effect specially on games and the Dialer app
Calendar gets all messed up too. Seems like the videos in the market disappears

Density changes will make changes in what the market shows you and how the market looks.
I tried the LCD Density app from the Market, setting it to 200. The icons/screen looks better. Will this damage anything by running it? I don't seem to notice any immediate changes in Market, etc.
I tried 200,220,230 all look like ****. Went back to 240 and used spare parts to reduce font size instead. Any phone I ever used chaning the screen density always looked like crap.

+1 in spare parts it will solve most of the issues. Running at 194 using LCD resolution.
I've tried LCD Resolution and after reboot, my screen looks like that. I've installed Spare Parts and unticked compatibility mode and that still happens. Does anyone know why this is happening?
dpi
Isn't there an app that let's you almost emulate changing the dpi on android? Like it shrinks everything or makes it bigger?

Thanks. I thought something was severely wrong with my phone when I used it.
Yes, there is an app in the market called LCD Resolution. However, it requires root.
I had the same problem... never found a solution.
There is an app in the market called LCD density (or LCD resolution) which actually works. But I didn't like how the dialer was resized and shifted to the left. Also it doesn't work with all apps.

I use 280, retains all the phone layouts. 240 was too small and made a few apps turn into tablet mode, which is more worse than better.
To fix market incompatibilities, buy:

I feel quite comfortable with 246 (240 was causing some layout issues).

You can't modify your settings in stock launcher.
I'd recommend using Nova Launcher to change this (you can find it in the Themes & Apps section) change the Columns & Rows to your liking.
You can do this with any other launchers as well. Stock launcher has very limited options, so you can't change Columns & Rows.
ADWLauncher works great too. More options than nova as if now.

To anyone who doesn't feel like buying an app to fix the Market, you might try this:
1. Set your DPI to something "normal" like 240 or 320.
2. Reboot.
3. Force close the Market app (if it's running) and clear its cache+data.
4. Using Titanium Backup, freeze the "Market Updater" application.
5. Set your DPI back to whatever you want.
6. Reboot.
7. Launch the Market.
I believe that will prevent the Market from seeing you have a non-standard DPI.
Hi all,
After coming over from the EVO 3D, I found the HUGE fonts, etc on the SGS2 disconcerting and ugly. I longed for my small clear fonts and tight spacing on the EVO3D qHD screen.
So I just downloaded LCD Resolution, a free app from the Market and set the Resolution to 200. Wow, what a difference! It is now just like looking at my EVO 3D with a better screen.
Awesome.
P.S., If you are using LauncherPro which doesn't have the ability to resize icons or fonts as Go Launcher does you will find this especially helpful. I have found Go Launcher to be an FC fest on the SGS2.
The resolution changing doesn't size right with some stock apps so I stay away from it. If the font is to big or not to your liking just change font size and style...try a ics ROM it has the option to change the font size built into the ROM.

What rom are you running?
LCD Density Pro set to 200 causes my phone to freeze on boot with FC15
I used LCD Density Pro to fix market on Touchpad.
Switched my LCD Density to 200 using ROM Toolbox, no problems there on CM9.
I had used LCD Resolution...with my Thunderbolt and ET4G- until I started getting incompatibility to download apps from Google Play (Marketplace). So if you do experience that, you may have to uninstall the app.
Hi guys. Thanks for the responses.
A couple asnwers here regarding LCD Density Pro. Have no idea as my OP is regarding an app called LCD Resolution. I am running the latest EL29 modem. I've tried this on a number of the top roms and all worked fine.
The benefit of this is that it also makes my icons smaller which was the problem when using LP on this device.
I've now set mine to 190 because I like that even better. Sorry it doesn't work for some. Works perfectly for me.

Hey there!
So I installed MIUI now which is quiet beautiful. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut.... I'm coming from another ROM and used to have my device for a year @ 180dpi - 220dpi. Now... this is just... ugly. The default is set to !!!320DPI!!!. Everything is so big, my grandma could easily hit every icon without her glasses.
So I tried to change the dpi to 220 using Rom toolbox, the only problem: stock keyboard
I really really like the samsung stock keyboard and now that it is back because of MIUI I don't wanna really miss it. I use the numbers really often and it's handy to have a number line just at the top.
>> Is it possible to have a Samsung Stock Keyboard working at 220DPI without any blank gaps and force closes?
Thanks alot!

Hey buddy , how were you able to bring down the screen dpi to 180 - 220. I am currently using cm 10.1.3 on the note 2 n7100 but i am unable to change the screen dpi. the entire rom looks ugly on the 320 dpi. Just a waste of screen space. Could you help me with the steps you took to reduce the screen dpi from 320 to say 240 or lesser...?
Hey if anyones curious you can run from 380 dpi on up. There arent any ill effects and it makes the ui real sharp looking.
If you drop to 320 it will FC home but will give ya the aosp lockscreen, i didnt mess with it or drop 320-380 but if you have luck or care to elaborate heres the place!

You have to reboot every time for the changes to take effect, after changing the line ro.sf.lcd.density from 480 to the value you desire you have to reboot if after you reboot if it still looks the same then I don't think build.prop was not mounted as writable. The default density value for the Optimus G pro is 480, I have mine set at 400 and this is how it looks like.
