Now that we have root is it going to be worth messing with this phone's pixel density? I would like the icons to be a little smaller and sharper but if changing the pixel density is going to have negative cascading effects with the phone I am pretty happy with where my phone is now with running Launcher Pro.
If it is going to make sense to mess with the density what application would I need to make those changes?
Thanks again!
it will always have some side effect specially on games and the Dialer app
Calendar gets all messed up too. Seems like the videos in the market disappears

Density changes will make changes in what the market shows you and how the market looks.
I tried the LCD Density app from the Market, setting it to 200. The icons/screen looks better. Will this damage anything by running it? I don't seem to notice any immediate changes in Market, etc.
I tried 200,220,230 all look like ****. Went back to 240 and used spare parts to reduce font size instead. Any phone I ever used chaning the screen density always looked like crap.

210 on LCD Resolution works the best for me. The launcher and notification bar and icons don't suffer from any blur.

Same here...I mean, I dont think they looked bad, I just cant stand knowing the dialer looked like it did, and a couple apps got super small and the market was missing the videos link I think it was, so I just said screw it and went back to 240

did you guys who are experiencing issues turn off compatibility mode?
i set mine at 200 using lcd resolution. the stock launcher look weird so i downloaded go launcher ex and it looks really good! i have my home screen grid set at 5x5 and it looks good. the dialer looks weird, and i just noticed the compatibility issues in the market people have been mentioning.

+1 in spare parts it will solve most of the issues. Running at 194 using LCD resolution.
I've tried LCD Resolution and after reboot, my screen looks like that. I've installed Spare Parts and unticked compatibility mode and that still happens. Does anyone know why this is happening?
dpi
Isn't there an app that let's you almost emulate changing the dpi on android? Like it shrinks everything or makes it bigger?

Thanks. I thought something was severely wrong with my phone when I used it.
Yes, there is an app in the market called LCD Resolution. However, it requires root.
I had the same problem... never found a solution.
There is an app in the market called LCD density (or LCD resolution) which actually works. But I didn't like how the dialer was resized and shifted to the left. Also it doesn't work with all apps.

Riddle me this! Go to your battery settings and notice the location of the refresh button for the screen. I bet it's on the top right. GSM/CDMA no difference. Well, mine is on the bottom. Same build, same rev, same kernel. What is going on? Who can figure this out? Challenge initiated!
Yeah mine is on the top right corner. That's strange. Lol

Mines on the bottom. Just noticed that it moved recently (yesterday). I thought it was a ROM or 4.0.3 change that I failed to notice.
EDIT: uhhh ok weird... it moved back. Top right.
did you change your screen density?
Changing it changes A LOT of placement of buttons in apps because the OS/app thinks youre a tablet with the high screen res and lower density.
AOSP ICS on my G2 shows it on the bottom. Maybe it does have something to do with density?
Nope, no change to screen density. This is new, 3 days old. Don't even have apps loaded. As close to factory as possible.
I have not touched my density.
OP have you tried rebooting?

I think it's on the bottom when the list is short (not scrollable). I've seen mine in both positions.
Why would anyone want to change the screen density on this phone? Is it possible that it's due to an update? I'm still on 4.0.1 here

320 density (stock) looks horrible on a 4.65" screen @ 720 res, imo - things are WAY too large
Im at 280 right now, but some like 241 or 240.
you can change with

doesnt matter especially you have a 4.5" screen. a lower density would definitely make things look nicer, especially when you use a 3rd party launcher to fit more rows and columns on the home screen
if you go through settings, it's at the top right but if you create an activity for ex. in launcher that leads to battery stats, then it's at the bottom. so I have both, depends on how I go there.
That's it! Good work. Solution! Who knew shortcuts would do that?
Simple.
if you access battery settings from settings menu the refresh button is on the bottom.
if you access battery settings directly (from shortcut on home or cached applications) is top right.

Hi all,
After coming over from the EVO 3D, I found the HUGE fonts, etc on the SGS2 disconcerting and ugly. I longed for my small clear fonts and tight spacing on the EVO3D qHD screen.
So I just downloaded LCD Resolution, a free app from the Market and set the Resolution to 200. Wow, what a difference! It is now just like looking at my EVO 3D with a better screen.
Awesome.
P.S., If you are using LauncherPro which doesn't have the ability to resize icons or fonts as Go Launcher does you will find this especially helpful. I have found Go Launcher to be an FC fest on the SGS2.
The resolution changing doesn't size right with some stock apps so I stay away from it. If the font is to big or not to your liking just change font size and style...try a ics ROM it has the option to change the font size built into the ROM.

What rom are you running?
LCD Density Pro set to 200 causes my phone to freeze on boot with FC15
I used LCD Density Pro to fix market on Touchpad.
Switched my LCD Density to 200 using ROM Toolbox, no problems there on CM9.
I had used LCD Resolution...with my Thunderbolt and ET4G- until I started getting incompatibility to download apps from Google Play (Marketplace). So if you do experience that, you may have to uninstall the app.
Hi guys. Thanks for the responses.
A couple asnwers here regarding LCD Density Pro. Have no idea as my OP is regarding an app called LCD Resolution. I am running the latest EL29 modem. I've tried this on a number of the top roms and all worked fine.
The benefit of this is that it also makes my icons smaller which was the problem when using LP on this device.
I've now set mine to 190 because I like that even better. Sorry it doesn't work for some. Works perfectly for me.

Hey guys quick question regarding apex launcher. I like setting my grid sizes usually between 5x5-10x10 but it seems with apex launcher anything over 7x7 causes the icons to get cut in half, regardless of having the icon labels hidden or not. quite disappointing.. is there any fixes to this? i searched here and on google, and didn't find anything other than other people bringing up the issue.
I purchased the Pro version hoping it would maybe fix the issue, but it still happens.
updated OP with my question re-worded in hopes of any info.. Thanks again for any help guys!

that will change a whole hell of alot more than just my icon size though. i dont want everything else to change size. I just want a dang 10x10 grid, why is it EVERY other launcher doesnt have this issue? there has to be something else.
Yeah, i never mess with density, but it would work.
Another idea is to use desktop visualizer since it scales. All the really artsy home screen people use it. Pain to have to set up each icon, but it should work.

Nice, that app is kinda like a more useful simpletext type app.
does no one else have this issue? I cant be the only one who uses apex who likes to have a 10x10 grid.
I set my dpi on this phone to 240 and I LOVE it and the market still works fine so far! Just wondering how i can mod the dialer/camera to fit the 240 dpi. And also the stock keyboard dosent work but i dont care much about that i use swiftkey 3.
Shame the standard keyboard doesn't work, I really like it.
As to the dialer? hmm, probably need to get a replacement for that too, shame it doesn't scale either. Someone can probably hack the .apk to allow different dpi's perhaps?

Change the value for ro.sf.lcd_density in the build.prop. You can do this with apps like ROM Toolbox Pro.
I was running 240 as well, and loved it but the camera, dialer and Samsung keyboard issues bugged me enough to go back to 320.

use a different launcher. I use nova
So no suggestions for dialers or camera mods that fix the scaling issues. They are better at 270 but not perfect.
Check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001143
it's on the Sprint Note II forum but I flashed them and they all work well.
soapbox23, what rom are you using? I am on Jexi-X4 and it doesnt work...
Found this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002960
Works very well at 240 dpi, it has most of the system apps fixed that dont scale well. Need to flash keyboard zip in the QA page though for 240 dpi.
So I flashed the stock with root FK23 jellybean leak last night and I love it! I keep seeing mention of changing the dpi for the ripple effect and other things. I've heard about changing dpi in the past to get more screen space but I've never messed with it for worry of messing my phone up or having market problems.
So my question is can someone please explain to me how I would go about changing my DPI for FK23, what DPI setting is generally considered the best all around, and will I have to do anything special so that the app market works ok? I looked at LCD density changer pro and DPI changer on the market and both apparently don't support jellybean. So if anyone wouldn't mind explaining how or what I could use to change my dpi and what the safest setting would be I would greatly appreciate it.
I did search here first but most of the info was for gingerbread or ICS or involved editing the build.prop file and I would rather get first hand info from anyone that's successfully changed their dpi on this version FK23, how they did it and what setting they used. Thank you in advance for any and all help or even a link (I don't mind reading) Thank you!

I know with the older versions of touchwiz though, that once you did change the dpi, you wind up having the launcher all screwy and not filling the screen, and a few apps, namely the dialer and music, if I recall, also either do not work, or only take up part of the screen.
Is this still the case?
