Is it possible to completely wipe the phone of everything and then install/flash the OS again?
(Not just wipe user data by factory reset)
- I mean format/wipe the entire system using CWM Recovery. Formatting the system partition but not the boot partition. (So your phone is just an empty shell or "brick")
I'm guessing PC companion wouldn’t work, but theoretically, is it possible to flash ICS again [See link] using Flashtool?

Actually, seeing as that is a .ftf file. CWM wouldn't be able to install it, so it must be flashed using Flashtool. But if you format the system, how can flashtool recognize your device???
So in that case, the only option would be a custom rom ready to go and install on the sdcard as a .zip. Correct or not?

Yes, but how could Flashtool recognise your phone if you wiped the OS? That was basically my question, will Flashtool still work if you wipe your OS?
Thanks for the link btw.

Yes, in the same way as a OS DVD recognises your computer when you've formatted it.
Ok, thanks.

I think you save the file in your firmware folder of Flashtool (if it's XDA Flashtool).
Then, plug in your Xperia SL (when off) to the usb charger, holding down -- entering flashmode.
Select the lightning icon, choose flashmode. Then select from the dropdown folder, the file.
Next, make sure you selct wipe cache, wipe data, and apps log... then deselect all else, except
for "No final verification". It should work then.
Open Flashtool first, and then plug it in. Make sure you are using a compatible rom, I am pretty sure the only difference between the SL and S (Lt26i) is the processor.
Cheers, MC.
Thanks

Did you flash an Xperia S ROM to your Xperia SL? I am asking since I also own an SL and couldn't find any stock firmware here in XDA specifically for the SL for reverting to stock purposes ...
Thanks!

Hello, the other day deleting apk's with root explorer in the folder 'sys' I erased a couple of applications that I should not have deleted and now I can't connect to my operator network, and my pc does not recognize the mobile usb.
One of the folders name was 'SEMC...' and something about operator/provider or something like that, if you look the folder you will recognize it.
What can I do?
don't you have a backup? If no, you can try to restore to factory defaults.

If you didn't do a CWM backup your SOL. Otherwise use flashtool to do a fresh install of stock firmware. Note you will lose everything on the phone except the contents inside your sd card.

Flashtool recognizes my phone but..
I get an error on the USB PC driver, when it recognizes the phone in flash mode (after turning off the phone and connected pressing the back button), it's because of the drivers?
I tried flashing .587 ICS ftf. And as soon as it reboots i get com.android.process has stopped message. I flashed an GB ftf and it works fine. Please help me. What must be the cause of the problem..?
PS: I was using Omega ROM for the past one month. Suddenly it became unresponsive. Now No ICS ROM is supporting.
Always do a full wipe including cache and dalvik.

You mean in the CWM..? But that can be done only after flashing a kernel right? But i get FCs after the first reboot of the system after the flashing processes is done. Or is there any " mount system and wipe system" option is the flastool that should be done before flashing?
Flashtool will wipe system by default unless you unchecked it before flashing.

I'm still learning all this stuff so thanks for the info, I'll try that instead as it sounds easier than running a script that Im not really sure what it does!
So Flashtool will wipe all partitions and get rid of all previous program folders and pretty much everything safely? Cheers.

Great thanks, so I can do the format partition in Flashtool then just flash my Rom as normal?
When you run flashtool you will need to choose rom firstly and secondly you will see options about formating and exclude what excacly you want to flash

Flashtool is best used for putting a stock rom onto your phone, although it has other uses. When it's finished the phone is completely clean, wiped, no data.
You will then have to put an account on the phone, root it, put dual recovery on it, or a custom rom, or do nothing
Remember the TA partition contains your DRM keys, do not wipe this or certain Sony stock functions will stop working. This is indicated in the flashtool by the letters TA, so do not tick this box when wiping the phone.
To find the rom for you service provider/area use then you should head over to IaguCool' s thread on Xperia Firmware Downloader & Checker. Follow the instructuions there. You will need a copy of Flashtool and it'd be good to read the thread on 'how to' as all the instructions are there, rather than jump to the last page and ask, which is what everybody does.

Thank you, I have previously rooted the phone and installed a stock rom a few weeks ago and probably wiped the TA partition via flashtool being a newbie although not 100% sure! Is there anything specific I would notice if I had wiped TA?
Im now running CM11 but just notice theres a lot of junk folders still and its not running smooth as it should so wanted to wipe again completely. I'll follow the process again and be sure to untick TA although maybe too late, Ive prob lost my warranty by losing the keys but sometimes its the only way to learn by just going for it but hopefully its no big deal.
Thanks again for your help.

To be honest it's not an issue, there are only half a dozen apps at most and if you are to believe jimRnor on his DRM FUNTION RESTORATION FOR UB thread, you can get them working again anyway.
Thanks, so when I flash my CM11 rom after a wipe and stock rom flash via flashtool, it will completely overwrite the stock rom correct?

I was trying to deodex the stock system of my xperia Z1 Compact,
I botched it a bit and ended up having to wipe it completely and flash the stock rom back,
Now every time I enter the CWM bootloader it wipes my system,
This means I am unable to root my device or deodex it,
Any ideas would be much appreciated,
Phone was rooted before I attempted to deodex it,
Cwm and bootloader are two other things. Please explain something more
