I have been using mine on page plus for about 8 months now and everything is fully functional with vzw coverage. The only thing I can't use is vzw's apps but I never used them anyway. I'm not sure about straight talk never tried it.

4g

Can you get 4g on stock with the incredible?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Don't believe so. Our phone does not have the chip nor can it handle the 4G capability. Not that the phones that offer 4G cam handle it too well either.

No. There is no way to get 4G on this phone.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But the captivate isn't 4G. The only 4G LTE phones VZW has now are the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Droid Charge, and the LG Revolution.
I'm just waiting for a dual core LTE phone. But I'm in no hurry, upgrade isn't till middle of next year.

lol, i agree
but, no, the incredible is a 3G Smartphone, as it says on the box, no way to make it 4g connectable
as said before, Verizon does have another 4g phone on the way (the bionic) but, as of right now, they only have 3 on sale.
troll much? "yeah, I have H on my captivate". Who cares

yeah but some people don't even know the first thing about the iPhone's operating system let alone android.
i just love how iPhone users come to me with my rooted droid inc, and all like "i have the 3 gees and i have the wifi, and stuff" and continue to blab about crap they have no idea how to work. i mean, if you have it, fine, just don't try to talk to me about the phone and "how it works, and i am a developer" when you don't even know how to make phonecalls on the damn thing.

Vzw nexus

Do the Verizon nexus have svdo

Do you mean EV-DO? If so, on a more simplistic level do you mean 3G?
And if so...do you mean can you turn off 4G and just use 3G?
If so, then yes, you can in the Mobile Network settings. I generally do because it uses significantly less battery.
He is talking about the dual chips like in the thunderbolt where you can make phone calls and use data at the same time

Hate to be debbie downer but I'll wait until I see an official promo placard. Techs talk out of their ass all the time. For as excited as I was about this phone I'm kind of beginning to think it's the Bionic all over again. Moderate hardware at leak/announce, forgotten about by time it's actually released.

Yeah just push it out enough to force those who can't afford full retail to give up their true unlimited data to pick one up. Stuck with EBay, Craigslist, etc.
With the Rezound going for $80 it might be my final upgrade before going prepaid unless VZW changes course....
Was really looking forward to the DInc4g too...

all lte phones are global capable, but its up to verizon to enable it or not
even if they dont though, playing around with dialer menu can enable....the rezound and razr both had people using gsm on it w/ some quirks right after launch

no, completely different technology...lte is gsm based, with extra cdma radio added....3g vzw phones are cdma, global 3g is dual gsm and cdma radios
Alot of the 4g phones don't have global capabilities out of the box.... The razr for instance had a software update that enabled it... I'm sure though that by rooting you could enable it without an official update... This may not apply to all LTE phones because VZW seems to be loading this ability out of the box in the newer devices

Need help choosing between gnex and s3 [Sprint]

Im switching services to sprint and looking to either get the nexus or the s3. All hardware specs aside which would most likely be the better choice..? From what I read it looks like the s3 is stuck in 3g while lte rolls out for sprint. Im leaning towards the nexus as its a pure android phone with no bloat on top of it. Would it be a smart choice to go with the gnex or get the s3 and wait for the 4g lte?
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
GNex is LTE too so you would be stuck on 3G either way. Sprint 3G is terrible in case you didn't already know.

3g isn't bad for me. It's an easy choice IMO. If you want access to the latest software, and want it to be fully functional, and stable, go Nexus. The GS3 doesn't have "that" much going for it over the Nexus.
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
"All hardware specs aside" makes it very simple. Galaxy Nexus hands down. But please get the GSM version to get the full benefit and all of the freedom from contracts, carrier restrictions, and official software delays.
If your not getting GSM nexus may as well get the better hardware. S3 would be my recommendation, though I'll personally stick with my GSM nexus.
That's my unbiased opinion, considering the forum your on you should know what most people will say.

Dont be lured by the unlimited marketing engine from Sprint. Their network is horrible. 3g is more like 2g at best and 4g is hit or miss. I imagine given their track record, LTE will be the same. Unlocked GNEX on T-mobile is the way to go! Thats what I did and couldnt be happier.

Yes you could. I'm on at&t using the gsm nexus but may go the straigt talk route when my contract is up. A friend is doing this exact thing and tells me ST service is great for him as it uses the at&t network.

Bad 3G? It really all depends on location. Really if your not in an area where LTE will be very prevalent. Then go with the GSM. Otherwise you may want to reconsider the sprint nexus. I've seen people getting consistent 25+ Mbps. And just as much upload. That plus non throttled unlimited is heaven sent.

Is your 4G working with Simple Mobile?

Hello,
Does anyone have Simple Mobile and there 4G is working. Mine is not
Simple Mobile is on T-Mobile and P930 doesn't have AWS UMTS/HSPA bands. So you will never get 4G on Simple.

So is this the same for 3G as well? Also would straight talk be supported?
I believe Straight Talk has 2 options, a T-Mobile-based SIM and an AT&T-based SIM. You would choose an AT&T SIM and you would be able to enjoy 3.5G (HSPA+), but no LTE.

I probably would have to wait until T-Mobile update their bands, which probably will never happen. But in the meantime, I'll be switching to straight Talk. Is 3.5G fast in a sense?

I have used both, lte in one town, 4G (3.5g) in the other and per speedtest there is no difference in download speeds usually around 6mb per second, however a huge difference in upload speeds 1.5m in 4G and almost 6m in the lte area. Of course your mileage may vary
