4g - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can you get 4g on stock with the incredible?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Don't believe so. Our phone does not have the chip nor can it handle the 4G capability. Not that the phones that offer 4G cam handle it too well either.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

No. There is no way to get 4G on this phone.

Sorry to burst your bubble. But the captivate isn't 4G. The only 4G LTE phones VZW has now are the HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Droid Charge, and the LG Revolution.
I'm just waiting for a dual core LTE phone. But I'm in no hurry, upgrade isn't till middle of next year.

lol, i agree
but, no, the incredible is a 3G Smartphone, as it says on the box, no way to make it 4g connectable
as said before, Verizon does have another 4g phone on the way (the bionic) but, as of right now, they only have 3 on sale.

troll much? "yeah, I have H on my captivate". Who cares

what they call 4g is HSPA +, not just H. That's like saying I have an iPhone, it runs the i operating system. Well I have a droid, it runs A. I like A better than i.

yeah but some people don't even know the first thing about the iPhone's operating system let alone android.
i just love how iPhone users come to me with my rooted droid inc, and all like "i have the 3 gees and i have the wifi, and stuff" and continue to blab about crap they have no idea how to work. i mean, if you have it, fine, just don't try to talk to me about the phone and "how it works, and i am a developer" when you don't even know how to make phonecalls on the damn thing.

question about 4g phones

If I buy a 4g phone online without a contract on verizon, do I have to upgrade to a 4g plan or can I stay on my current 3g plan?
should just be able to keep you're 3G plan.. the 4G is just an added benefit. you just wont get 4G service if you dont have the 4G plan

I don't believe there are any 3g or 4g plans, just data plans in general ? I'm pretty sure if you bought a 4g off contract and you activated it should work np.
Yeah, when I got my Inc 2 the plans and prices were identical to the 4g thunder I just got this cause my area has no 4g and won't for a long time...

What does this have to do with the dinc2
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
The only thing that is different is you have to purchase a 4g sim card. You have the 3g rtr removed and replaced by 4g. You can still switch back and forth but each time will take a visit to a store. If you just swap via myverizon it can make your 4g card unusable. The rep has to mark the card as reusable each time. If you are going 4g it would be best to just stay 4g due to the headaches.

Verizon ended telling me if I were to have a 4g phone is have to pay a seperate 4g data fee on $10 on top of my normal data plan.. maybe they just don't like me.. I dunno

The 4g phones cannot run on 3g alone. They have to be activated with a sim card.

Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
Do you mean EV-DO? If so, on a more simplistic level do you mean 3G?
And if so...do you mean can you turn off 4G and just use 3G?
If so, then yes, you can in the Mobile Network settings. I generally do because it uses significantly less battery.
He is talking about the dual chips like in the thunderbolt where you can make phone calls and use data at the same time

'Cause 3g speeds suck on sprint? 4g is descent. If we were getting 1.5m 3g connections I wouldn't sweat it.

That's not what the 10$ is for... its for premium data... every data phone has it. Least android phones ... from my knowledge.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Cause its way faster then wifi. I have wifi at home. I get 4g around the city and sometimes at home, but when I get it, I quickly switch to 4g. Cm9 or people's rom + 4g =Epic phone!

I think I'm gonna set my phone to 24/7 roam on verizon to get my $10 worth then.
Not important to me. Neither is 3g for that matter. I spend 90% of the day within reach of wifi. And when I'm out and about, I don't mind the slow 3g speeds (500k). I don't do anything on my phone that is bandwidth intensive.

Actually the first month after the Epic's release date, Sprint store sales reps were telling customers the additional $10 was specifically for either using 4G or to bring 4G to your area within the next 6 months. That's the only reason I want 4G, the company allowed a huge amount of reps to sell the phone with that sales pitch. To try and quell the angst, Sprint implemented the charge across all "smart devices".
Closest 4G area is ~400mi away from me.
4G area is pointless in my area. I've rarely ever gotten it, and all it does is drain battery anyway. I'm curious to see how good LTE will be, and if it'll actually be in my area for once.

Wink wink. . . . nudge nudge. We all know the 10 dollars is for 4g no matter what Sprint calls it now. It ABSOLUTELY was for 4g service in the beginning before everyone complained and Sprint decided to just make everyone pay the fee, as the only phones that had to pay were 4g phones.
Ummm...cause it's fast. Being able to stream youtube, internet radio and HBO at my work desk is kind of awesome. Hope LTE is even better, and just as unlimited.
I get 4g everywhere now
Its almost been 2 years I have had a 4g phone and finally I have 4g where I need it
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Non 4g phones get this extra charge... its android's premium data need.. hint hint nudge nudge I still think it to be for 4g, but to be on the correct side its for PREMIUM data.

Yeah its really spotty and on/off for me. Weird observation though... I get 4g with my note in places I don't with my Galaxy Nexus.
Darn them, talked to a shentel rep (people that control sprint towers where I am) and these lte siting are just the test sites -_- but hey, at least full lte will be out at the end of the year for me at least, but hey for test speed of anywhere from, 8-20mb down?! I can't complain, but hey, I saw the same speeds with my wimax 4g, so to each his own

With Note 2 i get LTE everywhere in Dallas Ft. Worth. Even traveling to other cities through tolls where development is not really there. Just alot of trees. I even get LTE in most people homes. Nexus never had this strong of a signal and if LTE switched the phone would freeze. I can honestly say this is a good phone.

You just noticed what has been present on Sprint's GS3 since it launched. :victory: Keep in mind though that it's a network AND hardware feature. As of now, the only Sprint phones that support this feature are the GS3 and HTC Evo LTE (Sprint's HTC One X variant).
Even though I've been in a position to use this feature sparingly (but often enough that i was glad it was there), it's made me hesitant to leave my GS3 for a Note 2.

I noticed the ATT commercial said they were the only network where you could browse and talk on your iphone 5 at the same time. I'm surprised the note 2 doesn't have the dual antennas. I wonder why they didn't continue it.
