Auto Brightness Flicker - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I've noticed crazy flickering on white backgrounds when auto brightness is on. Most noticeable in the Gmail app since the background is solid white. Shows best when there is no text (bottom of an email). Anyone else see this?

Would help if you give just a little more info. What Rom ? What kernel ?

I have that flicker constantly on stock rooted when sending messages.

Disable HW overlay and enable force GPU rendering in dev settings

I think the flicker problem is an sgs3 issue and not a ROM issue... its happened on a few ROMs for me... this is always what I do.
I also disable auto-brightness

[Q] Disabling avatars

Is there a way to disable the showing of avatars?
A few people have somewhat provocative pictures and I come to this site multiple times a day from work.
I'm not a prude, the images don't bother me personally and I'm not requesting anyone change their picture but in my work environment I'd like to be able to turn them off. Is that possible?
In tapatalk 2 there is an option in settings for it.

You can turn off pictures in your browser but that's all pictures. If you use Firefox you can download an ad-blocker and specify the pic as an ad. Other than that I don't know of any options.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I'll give them a try.
Go to the user cp and then edit options. You'll find a section called thread display options and avatars are an option there.

Blank Space in Notification Bar...? Anyone else?

Not a big deal, just annoying. I get a blank space between icons in the status bar between other icons. Makes me wonder what in the world is running all the time, or what has an all black icon? Stock rooted but its been happening since I was just stock. After searching I havent seen anything like this for this particular phone so here it is. Anyone know WTH it is or how to fix it?

Do you have any apps that run in the background? I had one that let you hide its icon in the statusbar but all it did was make the icon invisible while keeping its spot up there.

When you pull the status bar down what's it say
Call Master. Will try disabling the persistent notification and see what happens. Only disabled the noti icon....
Yep. Thanks and duh. Never even thought about that.

Lock screen wallpaper issue

Anyone experiencing problems with quality of lock screen wallpaper? I thought my screen was faulty but it's not the screen, something is wrong with lockscreen calibration software wise. I took a screenshot of the lockscreen and this is what I got. If screen was defective, it wouldn't be captured in screenshot. This is so weird.
Notice the left side of the screen looks all faded compare to right side?

This is the same image I took a screenshot of in quickpic/gallery.
Everything displays correctly except for the lockscreen. Try using black/dark wallpaper and see if you have the same issue. =(

It's because you still have the ripple effect selected in the lock screen options. Uncheck that and your wallpaper won't be faded.

Gmail update 4.2 now available

Gmail update 4.2 now available.
Finally! Pinch to zoom. This should've been a fundamental feature from the beginning!
No pinch to zoom for me. Running ZediRom V3.2 if that matters.
Check your settings. It's not enabled by default.
yea im on 4.2.1 and i have NO pinch to zoom either

That did the trick ThaiM!!! I hit your thanks button.
+1 it was just a setting thanks bruh.
Yay just got it too. Love it
I had disabled Gmail, as I much preferred stock email. After this update, I am using gmail as my default email, much improved!

Is it me or does anyone else feel that pinch to zoom in gmail seems lacking/limited. I have a qr code that after zooming in completely, is barely big enough for the retailer to scan.
Also I may be mistaken, but all this new feature seems to have done is literally make messages fit to the screen by default.

Reason to root?

What are the features I'm missing out by not deciding to root?
Thanks
Few ideas here
The main reasons I'm rooted is for Titanium Backup and Adaway.

Kernels that allow almost infinite screen color adjustment. Substratum themes without having to connect to Andromeda.
Adjust settings like long press back button to kill app.
Flash new roms (if and when they become available.
And much more.
For me it's adblocking, YouTube red and advanced color control (you can tune your screen by your personal liking). Without it any phone is a trash for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you can also install hacks for hotspotting?

Not sure what YouTube red gives, but the mod below removes YouTube ads, enables floating window and youtube background playback. It's so sweet!

Sweet, thanks for the follow-up will check it out.
