feedback - About xda-developers.com

hey,
I want to thank someone who has been helping me out on my pm, is their any thanking method on the site apart from just thanking someone's post? :fingers-crossed:

No there's not. The only ways are to either thank their post or saying thank you to them via PM for the help they've given you.
If you feel thanking just one of their posts isn't enough, then you could always thank a couple of other posts of theirs aswell.

Forum for Saying Thanks

Ok everyone, unless I completely overlooked it I didn't see a thread where you can publicly say thanks to fellow members for their help. I know at times we see things in forums and what not. But why not have a thread specifically where you can thank a person for helping you out with and issue or if they pointed you in the right direction. Nothing wrong with a little thank you, kindness goes a long way.
First to Say Thanks
Coppertop - helped me and pointed me in the right links for my first Hard-SPL and ROM Flash. He was more than helpful and patient!!!
Moved as not ROM Development.
A way of thanking can be via star rating.
Why not just say thanks to that person in the thread in which they helped you?

Exactly! Quote their helpful answer, perhaps, and say "Thanks!".
Maybe some concern that such posts would be considered superfluous and off-topic, but so are flaming posts...except that these would be off-topic and good rather than evil.

Thank You XDA Forum and Members

I just wanted to post a general thanks to everyone. This site has been instrumental in helping me along the way to understanding Android, my smartphone, and how its' dumbuser is attempting to change things just a little bit better. I have joined to say that, learn more, and hopefully help out others as I have been helped.
With Gratitude,

Welcome aboard OP.
You don't have to be crazy to be a member here...but it helps
Thanks from my end!
Hi members/developers,
Just wanted to add to what stalintc said, this site is definitely one of THE best of all websites! This website has by far made my boring old HTC Touch HD into a super awesome machine capable of anything! (well not ANYTHING - but you know what i mean).
P.s. HUGE thanks to those who have worked/working on the Android stuff; Legends!

hey Welcome ;-)
Welcome I agree this is a great place with tons of great info. It has helped me get my Captivate going at least 5 or 6 times so far when I thought I had bricked it
Thanks Superchunkwii.....your step-by-step guide was awesome. I was previously rooted and on SC 2.9 w/ EC01 radio but decided to go back to stock and get the OTA programming. After that, it wouldn't let me root using the methods I had used in the past (when I came from stock 2.1 a few months ago). This method allowed me to FINALLY get back to a rooted phone so I could get back to experimenting with various ROMs. Thanks again!!

This is also what I going to say. The forum is great.

[Q] Moderator Question

I PMed Mr. Clown Asking About What It Would Take To Become A Moderator. He Told Me That There Was A Recruitment Forum That Has Ended. The Reason I Ask This Is I Am The Owner Of A DroidX2 And I Am Disabled Meaning I'm Home Alot. Also I'm Constantly On Here And A Few Other Forums. My Help Would Not Be Limited To Just My Phone As I Love To Help Out Anyone And Everyone. To Me There Is No Stupid Question, Knowledge Is Power. I Hope That Some Mods And Admins See This And Recognize That I'm Here To Uphold The Rules Here To Keep This Community Clean And Safe. I Look Forward To Any Response In Regards To My Request.
Thank You All For Your Time.

Thank You Ash.

Thank You!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank the administrators, moderators, and members of this forum.
Unfortunately, it's difficult to find a forum anymore where people behave with common (uncommon?) courtesy toward each other. Here people are courteous and extremely helpful.
Having run a couple of VERY small forums, I know that it's a huge undertaking to keep the trolls at bay.
I thank those that give there time and effort into doing so, and all the members who contribute and help others out.
I hope that I can contribute over time as well.
Thanks, and happy new year.

Why don't ya then

Thanks....Please.....

I see many people practically begging for "thanks" hits in their sigs. I was just wondering why this is? What are the advantages if any of getting a lot of "thank yous"
Personally I never ask for them and don't pay much attention to them on another's but some sigs have the request in big and bold letters sometimes twice!! I have been a member for a long time and this has always perplexed me. LOL
Thought i'd ask since I just read a post that contained THREE requests for "hitting the thanks button" $$$
Is it really THAT important?
Don't know but.
Thanks meter shows your reputation.
How much you are reputed.
And the more it is the more people listen to your help.
Its my way of think .
Can't say if this is the only reason.
There might be different also.
Let see. Even I wanna know it.
Someone will definately answer this
They suck!
But they decide how helpful / knowledgeable you are!
Thanks is something that isn't to be begged but gained!

read this thread.
There are many more posts like yours.
No they're not important.
At first someones thanks meter could be used to determine if a user was a helpful member, more so than others. Now though, due to major misuse of the thanks button, it means nothing because someone who rarely helps could have more thanks than someone who always helps others.

The majority of people who receive *Thanks* on this forum receive it for posting a witty response to a thread.

THANKS
YEP This is exactly what I meant. So many people trolling for "thanks" and even donation buttons lol
It certainly feels good that the advice you have given to others is appreciated, and this appreciation is shown through "Thanks" here on XDA. It also builds reputation, like others have said in this thread. The Thanks button loses it meaning, however, when people beg for them in their signatures or end their post with a similar sentence to "Hit thanks if I helped you!".
thanks is something people just click when they feel like it,
like an itch on your back,
you can scratch it if you want or you can ignore it,
or you can put mineral oil and rub it across..
anyways,
my point is,
you are not obliged to click the button,
if someone has helped you then click it or don't (you ungrateful BS)

Donation buttons are fine seeing as you actually gain something from a donation. As long as the person has a valid reason to ask (RTs, RDs and anyone who does a lot of original, time consuming work) there's no reason they shouldn't ask for a voluntary donation. As for thanks, I don't see any reason to ask for them specifically but they can often be a good indication of how helpful someone has been. Of course, sometimes they're a wildly inaccurate measure as people are thanked for funny or witty posts as well as useful ones. As for me, I use my own thanks to keep track of threads where people may require follow-up help of any sort.

I was referring to the general population putting "Donate to me" links on their moniker sections...Whats up with that? I don't pay much attention to thanks numbers. I pay attention to the information in the posts. IF its worthy I will hit Thanks IF they are not asking for it.
I don't understand the need for "reputation" I have seen misinformation come from people with a lot of thanks and good information from new members. Contributors who actually provide ROMS, Kernels, Apps deserve donations and thanks.

That is true. But to some, first impressions will affect their judgement of a reply, especially if the ones providing solutions are 'Recognized' members with tens of thousands of thanks. Of course, everyone is different. Some are desperate for thanks, whereas others are just glad to help.

Exactly. I've never ever press thanks if the poster explicitly mention/request/beg it in their signature or post, no matter how useful the information is. Begging for thanks for raising thanks meter is just plain pathetic in my dictionary.

If you don't thanks .
The person whos helping you in knowledge or any other way.
Then the person is a leech in my dictionary.
I don't care. Thanks need to be earned, not to be begged for.

I guess some people demand credibility loudly.....others earn it silently
A simple thanks.... for anyone that help you....
I believe that... hit "thanks" or write it in a post is the same.
