Forum for Saying Thanks - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Ok everyone, unless I completely overlooked it I didn't see a thread where you can publicly say thanks to fellow members for their help. I know at times we see things in forums and what not. But why not have a thread specifically where you can thank a person for helping you out with and issue or if they pointed you in the right direction. Nothing wrong with a little thank you, kindness goes a long way.

First to Say Thanks
Coppertop - helped me and pointed me in the right links for my first Hard-SPL and ROM Flash. He was more than helpful and patient!!!

Moved as not ROM Development.
A way of thanking can be via star rating.

Why not just say thanks to that person in the thread in which they helped you?

Exactly! Quote their helpful answer, perhaps, and say "Thanks!".
Maybe some concern that such posts would be considered superfluous and off-topic, but so are flaming posts...except that these would be off-topic and good rather than evil.

I am one of the new moderators of this forum and i would like to start off with a thread that talks about what changes you would like to see in this forum. Give me any threads that you might think need to be sticky'd and any other organization you'd like to see. I and another moderator, which will not be named yet, will discuss the best way to roll this out for everyone.
i dont have any suggestions... just would like to congratulate you. so, congrats pudgedaddy
Welcome Aboard, Pudgedaddy & Congratulations.
I am also the new moderator of the Excalibur and Smartphone forums. Please drop by and post your comments, concerns and suggestions. This is a Great Start to the forums. Please keep this thread clean and free from any redundant questions. Only post when there is a need to be.If you would like to see something happen, let me and pudgedaddy know. We will discuss and come to a conclusion to see if your request should be fulfilled. As a start, I would also like everyone to know to keep WAREZ out of Excalibur & Smartphone threads. Any user that asks for WAREZ will be warned and eventually banned if the question arises again.
In the near future, Me & Pudgedaddy will compile information to be stickied for your benefit. Any requests for sticky's will be looked into and only sticky's that deserve to be stickied will be stickied.
Thanks for your co-operation and once again, Great job Pudgedaddy.
Cheers!
Congrat!
YAY !!!!!!!! Moderator for Excalibur!!! FINALLY
First, lets do some stickys haha

Oh Thank you Pudge & Luky for offering your services. Thank You XDA for answering the call. Have a wonderful day you already made mine!
Thank goodness!
Maybe this will lead to a reduction in redundant questions by people who do not even bother to search this huge forum and its wealth of knowledge, if that is even possible. I think the most pertinent topics should indeed be stickied, along with deletion or condensation of old threads that are either not relevant, duplicated, or never received replies. Trim the fat, ya know? Thanks for committing your time and effort to make this forum as productive as possible!
Finally! Congrats, guys. Be good public servants.
I would definitely add a sticky to the wiki, but I'd also suggest you two be careful when sticky-ing things. If there are too many stickies, it ends up being the same situation we have now.
Cleaning up the posts we have now is more important than stickies.

That's what I got for now.
Cheers.
I just fixed a problem that I created a thread for. I would like to know how to change the thread title to include, "solved", in the title. This way everyone would know that the problem has been fixed. Sorry, if this is already possible. I cannot figure out how to do it. Thanks, and if you want update my sorry, not a noob thread, if you want, to say solved in the title. My last post explains everything. Later.
My bad...

I was contemplating on closing it out but don't close it because if we do close it, then people who need help on the same topic could have issues that outerdepth didn't have. If you think closing it could help, then please proceed mikey.
Mikey & Pudgedaddy - Stickies need to be cleaned up i.e. every unrelated post should be deleted in my opinion. We shall split up stickies when I get a chance to talk to you guys then work on making this place much more organized as well as make it easy for newbies to get the information they need. Please comment.
Guys, I understand there are a lot of stickies at the moment. Everything will be re-organized, edited and finalized hopefully by the end of this weekend so there's only "threads" that absolutely need to be stickied.

Idea:The "Thank You" thread / Thank You button

Since I have subscribed to a lot of threads I also get a lot of notifications. That's great offcourse. But what's less great is that a lot of those messages only contains "Thank you very much"or less.
Example : Thank You
Don't misunderstand me. It is great you all thank the programmers for their work. But it doesn't add anything more to the thread nor the program.
So I like to propose to start a "Thank you" thread which I already started just now
If you like to thank somebody it can be posted in this thread. With every "Thank you" you can point to the specific thread with the url of the thread, pointing to the first message.
btw. Many programmers will also appriciate a donation as a "Thank You", I think.
Also to keep their work going
So would you now like to say "Thanks" to somebody?
Then put it in here
Well, thanks
Thank you, but I rather put my "thank you"s in the thread of the developer.
when people wana say thank you..they mean thankyou for
1>ur program
2>the things in this thread that solved my problem
3>the discussion made me feel i no somethin g bout my phone
4>thank you for being alive
so they must post it in the thread!!
not here..
then next time someone comes to the thread they see a thankyou
then they feel..hell lets search bfor posting a question cause someone got a answer!
so then they search and find their answer!!and the cycle continues!!
I don't think they *have* too.
As I said a before only "Thank you" doesn't add anything to the thread nor the program. And people who has subscribe to this thread get useless notifications. It clutters up the thread. So it is redunant in my opinion.
Something like "Thank you but I have this problem with your program" or "Thank you but I have this idea" or "Thank you can you add?"whatever" is something different.Others can participate to this. To a "Thank you"they can't.
Example
Like in my example you can ask yourself. Who is he thanking? The programmer? The one for replied before him? Somebody who gave a tip about the program or a link, WHO?
But offcourse have it like you want it. It was just an idea
well it is a real dilemma for people who are reading up a thread from scratch trying to find something ....and you get all the flaming, thanks and so many other remarks
there was a forum that fixed this by putting a Thank you button behind each entry in a thread .
So once you push it youll see a footer with "The following people wish to thank ..." and its lists each person.
im not sure if it can be done here .....oh mighty gods of XDA....is this possible ?
im not sure if i can type in the name of that forum here ...
Well, interesting idea, but isn't it easier to make "thank you" button? You just click that in chosen thread and it is done... DB space and bandwidth saved.

Some other forums add a kudos button to the person's avatar so that you can thank a specific person, and people are sort of graded by how much kudos they get, meaning how much good they've done to the community, how reliable, in a sense they are, etc...There is also the negative (boo!) button when people are unhappy with something.
All this have it's pros and cons, depending on how grown-up or how childish (abusive?) people can be at times. But there is no doubt that it saves time and space. And nothing stops people saying thanks in other ways as well.

No they won't. That's why this thread to try to come up with ideas so they do stop, and thank people on another way, like with a button. As you said. It saves space!
thank you button for vbulletin http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=122944
i button would be very good and i think the best solution
Advantage: Less Clutter on Thread.
Disadvantage: Less personal/threads drop down list faster.
To be honest i don't see saying thankyou as an issue, what's more of an issue is mountain size quotes and multiple same questions asked by uncompitent searchers or just plain lazziness
"So maybe the OP of the thread should have more controll over the thread being able to delete the redundant posts?"

Would this help any dev or no?

So i have an evo that i am sending back because i got my replacement.. So i dont care if it gets unrooted in the process...
According to this: http://support.sprint.com/support/a...e-wh164052-20100527-115429?&INTNAV=SU:DP:HDIA
I should be able to manually update my phone to froyo....
If someone could walk me through how to get the image and files off the phone and post i would be more than happy too (if that would help anyone.. i just dont know)
Let me know!
yeah it would help but i dont think its available yet been trying to download all day no luck...

How is this the wrong forum? He's asking the developers if his downloading Froyo, extracting it, and sending it to them would be a help to their development of Froyo-based ROMs.
Ha!
I swear to God 80% of all posts on XDA are people replying to other people, telling them they are posting on the wrong forum (without even telling them where they 'should' be posting) Very Hilarious but also far far more annoying then the supposed misplaced post itself. p.s. please reply to this telling me I'm posting in the wrong forum, it will make my day.

Welcome to XDA. Please notice the nice place set up for questions like this, conveniently labeled "Q/A." See all the question marks there? It's for questions, just like this! The devs read that forum too! Now take a look around this subforum. Notice threads with content, downloads, changelogs - in essence, development.

to OP, Thank you for willing and waiting with the rest of us and yes if you do get your hands on that OTA it will help tremendously. Do post here if you get it.
Really?
Ok first drumdude are you a moderator? Have you done any development ever? Do you post anything other then nasty remarks? If I were a moderator I would ban hammer you not the person offering to help.
Seriously people just because you have anonymity behind your user name doesn't give you the right to be rude. Stop jumping on a post and yelling at the poster, if the moderators have a problem they will move the post you are not the police and all you are doing in potentially scaring off help!!! Which correct me if I'm wrong a development forum is DEPENDENT on.
I for one have been taken aback and offended by some of the blatant rudeness on this forum.
We never know who is new or who is posting something. What if a HTC dev was posting a question with the intent to leak info to us and you blasted him like this? Do you think he would want to help after that? Or what if someone who was posting a question also happened to be at HTC legal and got pissed enough to force all our nice developers to stop using anything HTC with a cease order (which they can legally do whenever they want) all because of some rude poster.
Please people be responsible and think before you speak the world and this forum will be better for it.

Thanks?

Am I the only one who thinks the whole thanks system on this site is just a massive popularity contest, I routinely see massive bold signatures in every section 'If I helped, press the thanks button' - yeah, I would have done before I read that, douche.
Sorry, it annoys me because I just don't understand what it's meant to prove or why people are allowed to 'beg' for thanks. If somebody makes a useful contribution, sure, give them some credit if they helped out... But people who also reply asking for thanks if they post a response to a question just annoy me. You'll be given it if you deserve it,
Generally only new users have large sigs with 'press thanks if I helped' in them. Most people who've been here a while know that thanks mean nothing and don't bother with that stuff. There's not much you can really do about it I guess.
You are right the whole obssesion for the thanks meter is disturbing, but look who is begging all the time for thanks!, i don't see any serious developer even care about thanks. In the other hand this make people making helpful posts and helping people even if they do it just for thanks.

If I may.
As one who is older I find the begging thanx the online version of panhandling.
I agree the thanks counter means little in most cases.
Just another meaningless badge.
I've always wondered also why some have the "donate" button active when they have contributed nothing.
It takes a second to thank a developer who assisted you. No biggie. The open source community are extremely helpful. Plus they do this for free. Get over yourself and thank a developer.

You didn't read or perhaps aren't understanding the original post.
OP is stating that "begging for thanks" in a signature is irritating.
The OP says giving thanks if deserved is certainly appropriate.
