Easy File Transfer for Mac/OSX Users - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Found this easy to use utility from the Android website - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Simply follow the directions and use. I hated removing my external SD and mounting it each time I wanted to transfer a file or use slow FTP programs. I'm not sure if this is already posted here somewhere. If it is mods please delete the thread.
Note: This may not work with the stock TW ROMs as I had trouble working this with it a few months ago. Once I switched to AOKP (courtesy of Task & Ktoonsez http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684 ) it works perfectly fine for file transfer on OSX (confirmed working on Mountain Lion).

Works great on my rooted Stock TW S3... Use it all the time OSx 10.6.8

First of all you have to decide on which version you use. If you wanna use Xdandroid-method then go the way escoda recommended you.
If you wanna try something else then try my builds (requires partitioning)

Hi vatoloco, can you tell me how partitioning diamond on windows?
As far as i know you can't, but you can use Gparted, a freeware linux app.
If you haven't got linux, you can just download a live gparted cd and boot directly from this one, without changing your OS at all

OK...New to this and would love to learn and understand how to mod my phones...I have an LG eve, Iphone 3g and a HTC touch diamond and have figured out how to jailbreak the iphone...Now I know the LG eve is hopeless as far as upgrades and I am trying to figure out how to install Android on my Diamond...So far I have copied the files to a folder...
The 2 root access files are copied to my internal storage however i am not sure what to do about the Galaxy s build....Do I copy the whole folder or do I copy everything but the start up config file? I am a bit confused...Please help...Oh and will I still have Windows in the phone or does this take it out? Oh and if I have issues can I revert back to windows? Sorry for all the newbie questions...I have searched and read for like a month now and it seems so complicated...This is the first thread that seems simple enough...Please help me...Thanks so much...
Ok so I copied the files and am not sure where to find the STARTUP.TXT files..? I found 2 files in the Galaxy folder in the start up config however one of them is Black start up and other is called Diam start up ? with one do I copy? Or am I am the wrong path? I also opened the Haret.exe file on the phone and get the error:
cannot open script file/internal...etc...Please help...
Thanks
Andy
please help? I have tried everything I can think of and have been reading for like 8 hours now and still can't seem to get it to work...I download the above files and then copied the startup.txt in the other partition and when i click on the Haret.exe...nothing happens...Tried it like 20 times...When you run file wizard starts it automatically has the install.exe or something like that...should I replace it with something else? please help...I am having a hard time explaining this so if you need more info please let me know...thanks
I tried to use Android on diamond by using sometime like Eclair but unstable and slow. It takes me almost 5 minutes to boot up and gives me a crash when I use it for minutes.
Is there any way to remove the windows and just use Android instead? Thanks.
Hi, I also had issues installing Android. First I thought it was too nasty.
Finally, by mixing many instructions I got it.
I would say, for [Xd]Android with an EXT2 partition (from Linux):
1/
Start Ubuntu from a bootable CD (No need to install it) and follow the steps from Vatoloco (Thx for this video) here:
Video1
When done you can move back to windows. You should take some notes from the video to do the same.
2/
- Then you can take the Neopeek Android Installer V1.1, found on Neopeek's website:
CyanogenMod6 - Port
+extract on your pc
- Also download the Android build (for example the one here from Neopeek) called "CM6 RC3 (Nightlie Build 17-08-2010)" on the same page.
- And the "HARET-PaketV1.5" +extract on your pc
3/
- Rename the Android build you just downloaded as "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- Then copy "npkinstall" folder to your internal storage (the fat32 partition)
- In your "internal storage\npkinstall" folder, copy the android build "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- In your "internal storage\" (root) copy what is contained in "Haret-PaketV1.5"
- Copy the "startup.txt" file from your own device (found here: "internal storage\Startups" to the root : "Internal storage\"
===== You're done ====
4/ The only step remaining is to run the 2 programs:
- "Internal storage\npkinstall\install.exe"
(It doesn't take too long, if you read what is written (and readable ), you can see if it worked)
Your device will restart at the end of the installation.
- Then Run the last program:
"Internal Storage\haret.exe"
It takes longer. When Android starts it seems to be bugged but finally work if you are patient. Next restart will be a lot better.
=====================
On my side, I used Android only a few hours as it did not meet my expectations.
It works perfectly and is smooth enough. But I will perhaps use Android when we won't need to have windows also installed.
Hope it helps! I just collected some infos and put that in 1 thread.

hi
I use this one now for a 5 or 6 days without going back to WinMO and it still works perfect. only thing is that you have to charge twice or more a daybecause you cant see the correct battery state. last time i checked the uptime without charging was around the 8 hours. but i didnt know how long it lasted after that.
you can download it from this page
|prj||XDANDROID||2.2||AOSP||19.8.10|SYSTEM-UPDATE||
with the latest kernel initrd and rootfs
you can download these from here
xdandroid.com.
also check the above page often because it will be continues updated
They only thing that isn't working is the Camera/Video function.
Have fun with it

Can't transfer files via Android File Transfer

It seems I can't transfer files via Android File Transfer. On another note (haha pun), I can't believe anytime I want to access my storage I need to load this oddball program, which doesn't even work. I miss USB mass storage.
When I try to copy a file, it tells me "Could not replace file, could not copy file (filenamehere)." This is so frustrating.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm running OS X 10.6.8.
Thanks.
I too am having problems tranfering file to and from the computer. Whats frustrating is that I did not have this problem when I got the note2.
Same problem on the Mac. Had to boot into my windows side. Quite annoying if you ask me
Samsung Galaxy Note II
I have no problem transferring files running latest version of OSX on a mbp... The only time I see any error is if my screen is locked when I connect it, I have to make sure it's unlocked when i connect it for the file transfer program to work. It sees the phone and sd card perfectly fine. I see many people on int version complaining of this too but worked first time for me.
Regurgitated From My Giant Note II
When I connect to my PC, my Note shows up as "SPH-L900". Phone icon, but I can click it to open and use just like any other folder. Absolutely no issues whatsoever moving files to/from sd card.
Do you have the Samsung drivers installed?
I can't copy or move files from the device either. I am able to copy/move files to the device.
Running Windows 7 64-bit with Samsung drivers installed.
I was really hoping to get some expert insight on this... I am bummed... I can't even get this to work on Mac or windows... what's the deal with this MTP stuff?
Samsung Galaxy Note II
I can't even notice a difference when using the mtp. Phone shows up under my computer and when i double click i can see the external and internal sd cards. I just go on with business as usual...
What kernel are you guys using?
The new Perseus kernel seems to have fixed this issue for me.

FIX?
hi guys.. I had this same problem trying to use android file transfer from my 2013 nexus 7 to macbook air.
I remembered I had a password set to access ES FILE EXPLORER on my Nexus 7 and opened the app, typed in my password and that made the trick... No more problems transferring from my Nexus 7 to the Macbook air. Tested with a 800 mb mp4.
Use ADB to transfer on OSX
I know this thread is old, but I just happened upon it. I am using OSX mountain lion, and could not transfer to my mac using the OSX Finder GUI. However, there is a workaround…. ADB PULL! (Note: this is nothing fancy/special, its just using command-line utilities instead of GUI and Android File Transfer)
**You must have ADB installed (Google, its not very hard to install it)**
1. Connect via USB
2. Disable MTP on your phone
3. open terminal and enter:
Code:
adb pull YOURFILENAME LOCATIONONCOMPUTER[optional]

My point was for people for whom android file transfer wasn't working.
Why so defensive? Anyways good point!
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk
I received the message "Could not copy file [filename]" and "your phone is locked" (dont remember exact wording) from the Android File Transfer app when trying to transfer a file.
The file size was small. The filename didn't seem to matter BUT i have to say: I got 3-4 successive failures with the original filename - which contained a few brackets and parentheses, but then was successful on the first attempt with a renamed file containing no special characters. But later, I was able to copy using the original filename.
Sometimes after unplugging/replugging the phone back in to restart Android File Transfer, I'd see the file appear in the location I copied it to even though it gave me an error earlier.
This did not happen consistently - sometimes it'd work normally, sometimes it'd work but appear to fail with an error, and sometimes it would just fail with an error. The phone was unlocked and on the home screen at all times.
Pretty strange. This is with Nexus 5 stock rom on 4.4.3, Android File Transfer 1.0.50.2266.

Jelly bean & Mac usb mounting solution

Since updating to Jelly bean many mac users are finding they cannot mount there phone to the mac to transfer files due to MTP
Google have their own mac app that allows mounting.
http://support.google.com/android/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1120329
Found it today, works a treat.
Haven't seen any mention of it so far so thought I'd post it up as I still see many asking for a solution.

Yeah, I've been using this too - works a treat :good:
Only problem I had with it, was that it kept disconnecting when my phones screen went off.

I've used it and sometimes fails, we can use CWM and mount the SD to copy the files, but if you do not want to switch to recovery mode every time you want to transfer files, another good option is http://www.airdroid.com transfer files over wifi, and much more, i like this software.
And finally, we can also use SCP or SFTP.

[Q] Did Google Remove the mirco-USB OTG Storage ?

I just received my Corsair Flash Voyager Pro & I can't seem to locate the files that I've put on it. The Tablet Doesn't Automatically open w/ file Manager & I also can't seem to fine google's file manager . The Drive is in exFAT if that matters.

Do you happen to know if the Drive "HAVE TO" be in FAT32 Format?

Some custom kernels support NTFS and EXFAT. But stock doesn't give you much option
If you're rooted try the app stick mount from the play store, that should work
If you're not rooted, try Nexus Media Importer (also from the Play Store).
I was expecting more of a Plug & Play Like what was shown 2:35
Stock / unrooted 5.02 and I use ES File Manager to access drives over USB OTG. This only started working (AFAIK) with the Lollipop release.
It's limited in functionality, and I usually end up copying files locally before using them, but it suits my needs and works without rooting.
I used to use StickMount, but it requires root. And I'm lazy.

G-stomper storage access

Hi,
I just installed BlissOs first time on my pc hp x360.
It is AMAZING, has given life to my touchscreen. Very responsive. I am loving the gesture options you have put!
I have only 2 issues, the main being with the installation of Gstomper from the Play store.
I posted the same on the planetH forum, with thread name Storage access on Android for pc.
(can t link for my first posts here)
It does work with live cd, but not with the installed version. Same for Android-x86 8 or 9, either with ext4, fat32 or ntfs.
It also work with an old apk version, if wasn t for a licence issue.
I think I need to create a non-root storage (emulated?) for it to work on a recent Android version.
How do I make it work like the cd version?
Thanks in advance
Andrea
Ps- the second issue is with the screen dimmer, breaking the Wifi connection, but is not very pressing. A reboot fixes.
