Hey, so im new to the forum and new to android phones, having owned an iphone for 3-4 years now decided enough is enough with that ****e.
So i've have the note 2 for the best part of 2 weeks and so far im happy with it. I've always been a customize freak, customising everything within phones, but seeing as i'm new to android i was learning my way around the OS. I decided to root the phone, which i did eventually, then decided to explore a little further in adding a theme. After hours and days of reading about themes and roms etc i decided to download the Moto00 theme, which needed omega rom.
So i downloaded the theme and the rom, not really knowing wtf a rom is (thought it was only for a theme) and i don't like it as i have to do wayyyy too much for a theme, even though it sounds simple, like i said im new to this.
I would like to go back to my stock theme but i have no idea how or what to do.. so basically if anyone can help me go back to thw original theme and rom or w.e it's called.. ( please explain in a way that i'll understand lol)

It's quite simple.
Although you can't keep your root afterwards. You would need to reroot it afterwards.
The process is same with jailbreaking. You would reinstall iOS, and you lose the jailbreak, then rejailbreak it.
Download Odin, which I assume you know about because you had already rooted your phone before, and also had CWM.
Put your phone into download mode, and via Odin, just flash your stock rom, which you can get from sammobile.
The rom needs to be extracted from the zip on your PC desktop and the .tar.md5 is the file you point to at in PDA.

Oh crap are you serioussss, damn! I thought i could just change back an forth like a normal theme, this is too confusing atm, i think im about to break my phone im clicking all types of buttons on the recovery mode and it's doing something, there arent enough vid tutorialsss :/

You will need to register.
Choose the country you're from, or the country which you want to flash it to.
I'm from UK, so I choose United Kingdom.
The roms on Android aren't themes like you would expect in Winterboard.
It's a whole new "OS" which is built upon the latest Android OS. With tweaks made to it.
You can give custom launchers a try if you find stock too boring. Launchers are just "apps" that you download from the store.
The only way to remove a custom rom is to reflash it with a stock rom, and I've shown you know to do it.
If you're determined to get rid of the custom rom entirely and return to stock, without root, you need to reset the flash counter first.
With your phone rooted, install Triangle Away, you can get it here on XDA. Reset the counter, then flash the stock rom in Odin.
Then go into recovery (which is now the stock recovery) and, wipe data, and cache.
Then your phone is back to normal with no modifications. It'll be good to go back to the store for warranty.
If you decide to root your phone again, the counter will be raised. And the system status would be modified.

Coming from an EVO 4G I thought I had a pretty good grip on installing roms. A week after getting and rooting my S3 I'm still gun shy. I want to install Jelly Bomb but I keep seeing posts about flash counters and dirty flash. I've never heard this mentioned before. Are these Samsung exclusive terms? I wanted to go easy and find a Rom as close to Stock as possible with the ability to remove apps to get my feet wet but haven't found one. This phone seems easier to brick than the EVO. Am I right? Also, I see things referencing Touchwiz and fishing it. Very confused. Samsung's version of Sense I guess?

Flash counters can be reset pretty easy these days. all roms labeled as having TW or touchwiz are pretty much stock with things like battery saving mods or battery hogging apps removed that are usually not needed"debloated".

Here's what you do...former evo'er here as well...
Grab the one click Odin LJ7 that you will find in sg3/android dev. Titled (root)odin one clicks by billard. Read the post so you understand how to use it. Save it to your CPU. That will save you if you ever brick your shiny new phone.
Go on you tube and search qbking77....you'll find every video you want regarding rooting and installing cmw
After that its the exact same way to flash ROMs as your evo. I promise.

So I should be flashing through Odin the same way I rooted? I, did root btw using qbking77 very easy video guide. Took me all of ten minutes to root.

I luv this rom, super themed though, not everyone likes all the blue. For me everything works. Just the statusbar after a reboot, you have to pull down notification bar once to get it to show up. Other than that no problems, kernal in 10.2 allows overclocking also.

Your fine then...just install cmw and your good to go.
The galaxy 3 is different than the evo in the sense that its very easy to root and unroot using Odin. The evo is a pain to unroot.
Make sure your grab that one click Odin and save tho because it will bail you out of trouble if something gets screwed up. You could run that and it will return you to stock or stock rooted (your choice depending on what file you download).
Anyways. Install cmw. Download ROM to your SD or internal SD. Hold volume up, home, power to cmw. Wipe/factory reset x3, wipe cache, advanced/wipe dalvik, install ROM, reboot
By the way. If you want what you posted in op keep stock but rooted. If you want a better kernel flash team sonics or jelly bomb with kt747....but if I were you I'd go SlimBean...enjoy
One other thing. What's this business about downloading a modem?
The roms are not modem dependant. And chances are if you're on stock you already have the latest modem. If you want to confirm go in the about section of settings and look at your baseband. should end in LJ7. Like I said though its not really important
If the modem isn't that important, why can't I connect to Sprint's network at all? I was working on installing the Goodness ROM which said I had to install a particular modem. I downloaded all files to the computer as suggested, transferred them to the phone then used TWRP as my backup and installed the ROM and the modem as stated. When I went to reboot it told me that there was no ROM installed. So I went back to my recovery installed it and now I can not connect to the network at all. Can someone please help? I need my phone as I am a Paramedic and I talk to the hospitals with it when I am bringing them a pt.

Not trying to sound harsh here but if that's the case just stay stock rooted. You need the phone brother...peoples lives are depending on it...lol
On a lighter side, I do t have experience with that ROM. But sounds like a bad flash. Wipe/factory reset...cache....dalvik...and I even format the internal SD...haven't had any problems

Oh well that didn't work. I watched the QBKing77 video and followed those instructions. Install took way less than I expected. Maybe two minutes? I pressed reboot and it rebooted back into recovery. That didn't go so well.
OK, so my AT&T Note 2 is almost here (FedEx tried to deliver it ye3sterday when I was at work) so I want to make sure I am ready when it gets here. So some questions:
1 I downloaded Odin and understand how to root the phone but where do I get the file to use with Odin to do the rooting?
2 After rooting, what program do I use to flash a new rom?
3 Is there a sticky thread somewhere with this information that I could read?
4 Is there a good program to import all of my contacts from my old Windows phone? I'm not sure what format they are stored in so that is why I mention that it is a Windows phone.
5 (opinion) What is the best rom for an AT&T Note 2? I plan on adding lots of applications later and I really don't like re-installing things often so I'll probably stick with whichever rom I choose for quite a while.

Just save to your phone, make sure Unknown Sources is checked in your phone's settings, run the file to install, run the app, make sure the exploit boxes underneath the "root" section are unchecked, then select root.
2: Download GooManager from the Play Store and run it. In menu, select Install OpenRecoveryScript. Follow the prompts, and it will download and install TWRP (custom recovery) for you. It will ask to reboot.
3: Simply do a search at the top of the forum.
4: Try Samsung Kies first. It should transfer all your contacts from most devices. Do this before installing a new ROM. Then make sure the contacts are saved to GMail's contacts.
5: It depends on preference. Each one have their own features and functionality, and varies on the version of Android it's using. I would research each one and see what entices you if I were you. Some ROMs may even have features of certain apps that you like built-in, enhancing the phone's performance due to the fact that it doesn't require an extra app to do what you want it to do. Most ROMs won't require you to "reinstall" things with each update of the ROM if you're just doing an update.

Maybe I'm making this harder than it needs to be. Looking at some of the roms I notice that some of them say "rooted". If I plan to flash a rooted rom do I have to root first? I assume no, but I thought I should ask.
But to install TWRP I think it has to be rooted and if I use TWRP to flash roms then I guess I'd have to be rooted first even if the rom being flashed is rooted. Now I've confused myself again. I really don't want to turn my $700 phone into a brick by screwing up.

Custom ROMs always require root because it relies on a custom recovery such as TWRP and CWM. So, in short, unless you want to stay stock, you need to root.
This post should help to greatly simplify things for you. (4th post in the thread) Instructions are referring to the jedi rom but they will work for almost any other rom. I am on clean rom and have tried several others. Everything works great on clean rom. My advice would be to download all the ones you want to try, flash them and try each one for a day or two until you figure out which you like the best, then get your phone set up how you want on that rom. Once you get the one you like perfect, make a nandroid backup and then you can always flash any new roms you want to try and if they don't work for you, you can flash your backup and not have to worry about setting everything up on your phone all over again.

Trust me, the phone is absolutely worth the wait and the money! Also like he said earlier, every ROM is different and my favorite won't necessarily be your favorite, but if you like the look of Stock, I use Jedix8 which has great battery life and performance and some cool extra features. CleanRom also has a great reputation and I'll probably give it a go soon just to see what it's like. PM me if you have other questions or anything at all

Thanks all. I think I have it all figured out (and thanks to FedEx's stupid delivery policies I've had 3 extra days to think about it).
I have downloaded Odin and a rooted img file from http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-2-easiest-method
It will root and install CWM (although I think I would prefer TWRP from what I've rad.
I've doanloaded both the CleanRom for AT&T and the Jedi roms and will try those out. I think once I get the phone rooted and with hte custom recovery on it the actual flashing of new roms will be comparatively easy.
Well, I got my phone last night and charged it. Today I was able to root it, install TWRP, and flass CleanRom all in under an hour. Thanks to all those who offered help. I've gotten around it using the Cingular settings but download speed is only 1.9MB. That's OK for now as I consider my options: live with it or talk to AT&T and see is something can be done without losing my unlimited plan.
Overall , this was an easy process thanks to the large databse of information here and friendly helpful people. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of doing this to proceed. It is easy once you start.
I used to flash all my phones in the past...Moment, Epic, friends phones, custom baked a few of my own ROM's using 7zip, etc...but it's been a few years and I feel like I've fallen outta touch. Currently the only thing I've done is CF Auto Root - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1956180 so that I can run TrevE Mod Wifi Tethering - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999156 and then Hot Audio Mod - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931970. I know these are minor, but I swear I've fallen outta touch on how to do bigger things, so even trying to flash a new modem and stock ROM via ODIN v1.85 hasn't seemed to help me get rid of root so that I can install 4.3.
At this point, I'm looking for guidance on how to COMPLETELY erase everything on the phone and start it from scratch. I wanna remove anything and everything I may have done w/ the phone over the past year or so and make it brand new as if it came fresh outta the box. I'm assuming I have to do all this from ODIN, but I'm going to be honest here...I'm hoping someone will hold my hand via accurate step-by-step, post links like I have done above, give Flashing for Dummies directions (some of these threads and their OP's are like reading German to me nowadays) and overall help me get to even a stock 4.1.2 so that I can run the 4.3 update either via OTA or ODIN flashing.
I've considered doing custom a custom ROM and Kernal, but this is the first Android I've had in years where I don't feel the need to run custom anything, overclocking, etc. About the ONLY thing I didn't like about CF Auto Root is I couldn't do things like using ROM Toolbox to change the boot screen, using SDX Removal Tool to remove useless stock apps I never used (I'm guessing mostly because it's a Android 2.X app vs using it on a 4.x phone), etc. All in all I've been completely content w/ my 4.1.2 the way it is, I just want a 100% clean slate when running 4.3, reroot to run a WiFi Tethering app, be able to delete stock apps finally and that's really it. So...anyone got 10 min to post some links, write me some instruction and help a brother out

Welcome back! Use TWRP for total wipe. (Including system) Get a stock 4.1.2 ROM from SamMobile and flash it via ODIN. It would be (should be) unrooted and totally out of the box Note 2. Be careful about the ROM u download though. Make sure it's for your carrier. Do a normal OTA, (don't recommend it though, it has Knox), use CF-Auto Root. You'll end up with a tripped Note 2 rooted. (Warranty would be lost.) (Can't reset counter, can't downgrade)

When last Feb. I finally switched from my iToy to my N7100, I thought that 'flashing' was something that some perv did while wearing a raincoat.

I Finally got my device rooted. I know that it's rooted because while using CF Auto, It wanted me to flash a Triangle Away update, and my binary count went down from 22 to one... so I know at least that worked.
Overjoyed that in Odin, when flashing I first got the notice "Reset!" and then after a few minutes and a restart, I got the "Done" notice (or whatever it said) as I never unplugged from the USB as it says you're supposed to. I just forgot.
Prior to "upgrading" to 4.3 Indian version, I had the stock Rom 4.1.2 running the Perseus Kernel... loved it, but upgrading to 4.3 has turned out to be the worst decision so far.
I still have a lot of Root apps on the phone but they don't work, but as I said, Triangle Away did work.
Should I uninstall the existing ones like Tit. Backup Pro and a few others and re-download them?
Does CF Auto Root automatically install SuperSU? Or should I uninstall that and re-download that too?
One last question....
Assuming that I do have Root, and I'm able to get Titanium Backup Pro working and am able to freeze and/or uninstall the Knox files... What about the ODEX files with Knox.
On this site, I have heard both pieces of advice... Delete and not delete the ODEX'd files.
What is it?
Nobody ever comes up with a definitive answer on this site... it's just a bunch of opinions, usually with the disclaimer, "Worked for me", or something like that... combined with the fact that I really hate working with the Windows partition on my Mac to do the flashing.
Oh, one more thing.
I'd like to go back to the Perseus kernel which somebody mentioned here on XDA.
Are there any kernels for the N7100 that are only useable with 4.1.2 that I should NOT use with 4.3, or does it matter. In other words, would it work with 4.3 as it did with 4.1.2?
Too bad that I don't have somebody like ChainFire living next door. Haha!
I have to thank the XDA site for most of my knowledge since last Feb. when I thought that rooting had something to do with digging up a tree in my front yard.
One more thing (again), I just got an update for Rom Manager Premium and it looks like I can download a CM stable release, which I'm gonna do as soon as I get some of these things ^^^Above answered and ironed out.
I'd like to stick with AOSP as opposed to AOKP but I'll do anything to get away from this current ROM.

1-ok i think that you have a custom recovery now, i had these issues a lot on 4.3, if you have custom recovery TWR or CWM you can install any rooted 4.3 rom, but before you do so make sure you backed up your efs folder (VIP you will lose signal if this folder corrubted), after a clean install of any rooted rom, just install ur apps again, if you don't have custom recovery you will need to flash any recovery from Odin, if you can't install recovery from odin so this will be bec. of knox, report back bec. this is another story.
2- some kernels works fine with 4.1.2 or 4.3, and some old ones are only 4.1.2, so make sure that you will flash the right kernel (e.g. devil, AgniPure Stock, ....)
3- don't try to update to CM now, frist make sure that you have a fully working rooted rom with custom recovery install, i also don't recommend flashing roms using any app (rom manager fore example), i think the best flash is the one you do from recovery with clean flash

UPDATE:
I decided to try Root Explorer again (It never worked before to delete anything before this time) and do a search for anything with Knox in it.
I found everything Knox and checked all the boxes except for the ODEX'd files, hit the trash can and wow... it asked for Root privileges. I gave it, and everything was gone in a flash (Pun intended).
Then I tapped on Ti Backup Pro and got the dreaded 'Android device I.D. changed' message so I came back here to XDA and read literally every post on it (Again, opinions are divided) and decided to ignore.
After that, nothing was working for me in Google Play, so I just deleted the data in Google Play Services, Google Play Store, and now I'm waiting for it to take effect in Google Play... whenever I did that in the past, it usually took a couple of hours for it to register. (?)
Now, all of my Rooted apps that I've tried so far are working, but somewhere along the line they pushed Samsung Link on my phone even though I've had Samsung Apps disabled since day one.
The funny thing is that with a Binary Count of 22, I did absolutely nothing differently than this time (Except for an abortive try with Philz_Touch that I don't particularly like the GUI in P_T)... same USB cable, same port, same Windows partition on my Mac, etc. etc. it took this time and I'm pretty overjoyed!
I'll follow evaworld's advice on the ROM... better not throw too much into the mix until I decide that everything is all ironed out.
And, yes, I did click the "Thanks" button for you.
Very good that you have root, but also note that your setup isn't so stable (besides the fact that 4.3 isn't very stable with root apps e.g. I always have problems with titanium and Super and alot of other apps that requires root) , so just clean install a good 4.3 app (I recommend DN3), and after that you are free to do whatever you want (don't forget efs backup in sage place).

When I woke up a few moments ago I noticed that a system update icon was in my notification bar, which I assume is the new ZVD update and right now my phone is on ZVC and is stock rooted using ioroot25 and I have TWRP 2.7.0.0 AND download mode both working thanks to AutoRec and everything is working fine but it was a difficult getting to this point because I was one of the early adopters of the AutoRec method and I had to to go back to stock and re-tot my phone numerous times to get root, recovery, & download mode all 3 working on my phone without issue.
Now that the ZVD update is waiting to be downloaded on my phone I do not want to have to go through all this stuff again nor do I want to lose anything I have on my phone currently so I would like to ask what is the recommended / safest way to install this update so that I can keep root, recovery, and download mode all 3 and not lose any of my data at the same time ?
Of course, I want to also make sure that this does not mess up my phone like the white screen issue some people had when using AutoRec on the Sprint version of the G2 or other issues so what are my choices and thanks in advance for any and all replies.

You won't be able to until they fix the update. Even just root will lock the system on the update.
Only safe way right now is to tot back to stock zvc, take the update. Root with ioroot25. If you want recovery, you can use auto-rec and then flash dorimax kernel. Which has the zvd knock code in it.

I also have a similar issue as the OP. I am currently rooted, stock rom. ZVD update has downloaded and is ready to install. However, what would be the nessesary steps to take prior to updating my phone? I dont care if I have to re-root again. I rooted me device using IOroot25. How can I unroot?

Supersu has the option to unroot permanently. Doing a full unroot. Weather the system accepts that, I'm not sure.

From what i understand , you will need a stock ZVC recovery and boot loader to apply the update. if you have any modification done in ROM (debloat/deleting/modifying system files) then the update might not complete.
So flash stock aboot(bootloader), recovery and kernel and then only apply the update.
TOT reflash is too cumbersome process and requires lot of restoration of apps setting etc.
I have same situation and am searching for stock files from ZVC. Please if any one has these stock file please do share.

Okay now, let me begin this horror story by say what I think needs to be said first and foremost.
"No matter your level of knowledge, there is always something new for you to learn."
With that being said, I phuqed up!!
I had my dream setup running almost perfectly. I mean heavily modded. Stock kitkat 4.4.2. from Sprint so I didnt have to upgrade anything. I rooted via .apk file. I autorec'd TWRP recovery. I first flashed a furnace kernel that gave me 2.49GHz overclock. And added in xdabebs cam mod. And loved it. I kept reading and researching. I found more goodies to play with. I install xposed framework and some useful add-in's. I find some old apps I love, like hide softkeys, and several quick launchers like pie control, and gestures. I eventually find D's kernel and was elated! 2.8GHz, whoopee! (although I have seen someone @3GHz.)
After about a weeks worth of additions, and stupid auto-updates from google play (omfg they take up so much room) I got that dreaded icon in my notifications bar that Im out of room!!!! Stupid phuq'n non Korean model phones! (I feel that is hella racist of LG to show their people love and phuq us over with no external memory support. We should arrange a class action law suit. Thats purposely shaping the market favorably in your region, and selling obsolete hardware to the rest of the world. "shameful behavior LG")
So to remedy the space issue, I go through my most painful, and totally ridiculous ritual of removing "my" bloatware. All the launchers that I dont really NEED or use OFTEN. The apps that are convenient to have , but that convenience is never utilized. Or its rarely needed. And that helped me out about say, oh 200mb.
DAMN IT! need more room! Need room now!! Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Okay so a few Big boys had to go. So I dumped a game or two, and the 2nd OS I forgot about on my device, Kali Linux. That gave me the much needed room. I gained about 4GB back. Cool beans, I figure before I do any new major changing of this phone I will force myself to make room for backups, ON device! :angel:
Well that didnt pan out. Instead I did one better, (I thought) I chose to back up on device, then rip it to my PC. Cool , it has the space for storing crap like that..
"ahh, life and its inevitable bullshnikeys"
BAM!! a day or so later, my PC froze, in the middle of a gnarly drift. Crap, restart, checks disk , fixes one error, bam froze again, "ah shiz, I need to back up my back ups!" checks disk, a few errors , I have seen worse. I got it up and running then, ZZZzzzzrrrrttt! NOOOoooooooh! So the PC goes down hard. No HDD found style.
So I reach for my G2 to take a much needed brake on the throne and plan somethings out. I sit down, hit the pwr button, and my phone was in TWRP! Odd I think to myself, and proceed to reboot. TWRP! look through settings, look for anything new on the sdcard (internal) nothing. So I power it down and turn it back on. TWRP! Furious!
Now Im at defcon5 using my LIVE OS, BT5r3 KDE, and decided to hear back into the XDA jungle to see what might have happened.
I got the update for ZVD it would seem. And it bit me in the ass at the worst time. I do not have the Android drivers that the phone installs to the PC installed and configured because I cant cycle into Android OS. Im seriously stuck in TWRP mode. I managed to get into download mode once after trying for 20minutes to do so. ( I need to practice that) But for no avail, I couldnt configure/install/set anything up that would have allowed me to communicate with the phone.
Im so very tired and stressed. Normally I would throw this crap away and go back to my trusty and (IMO) more stylish motorola RZRv3, but its battery is like a joke with its 3 minute, PERIOD life time. SMH
So now I come before you, alone, tired, confused, and depressed, (I do not, like reinstalling anything, ever, in anything.) I just really dont want to hit that brick wall (pardon the pun) an know I have to, ahem, configure, so many apps that I enjoy using. All because I lost my recovery.
What is it about the recovery file that makes the option for keeping your user installed apps, achievable, versus the wack (not even an option at all) choice of having to wipe everything and start over? Because (IMO) that is in no way, a recover. Thats a fumble, oh, interception. Thats dropping the ball. If you waste all the space for "backing things up" then something happens, and you still have to completely wipe the IMPORTANT stuff!! Whats the point?

What can I do to attempt to simply boot back into my android.
and if there is no option for simply restoring the functionality of the devices previous state,
what ROM/OS do you suggest I shove in this brick or what method should I use to punch the life back into my phone?
