Does anyone know what the best settings for the One X would be?
I've been messing around with the video settings for a few days now but I can't figure out what the best configuration is, anyone have any experience with this?
I advice you to use epsxe emulator, it has less options then fpse but the sound is 100% identical(fpse really has bad sound...) and visual wise it's good too! Also 60 fps constant. As for options for fpse just use frame limiter and software emulation or opengl and frame limiter, but still ff7 has most epic soundtrack ever and fpse fails to emulate most of the sounds and music!

Thanks, now if you can continue being so nice and guide me through how to continue playing my save game that I've saved on FPSE on the EPSXE I'll gladly switch!
I've put some work into the game already, and just starting from scratch doesn't seem an enjoyable option for me since I've beating this game many times in my child-hood and I'm just replaying it for the memories.
And I do agree with you, sound is pretty ****ty on FPSE and that takes the experience right away from emulating FF7 on it!
I don't have fpse anymore but I'm pretty sure there's an mcr file you have to copy and paste from your fpse folder to epsxe. Or you can copy your in game save states to epsxe. (memcard is better though) Let me look it up for you, as I bought fpse a while ago.
Also check this out. http://www.fpsece.net/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=2248

Thanks, friend!
I'll do this tomorrow, first I need some sleep!
Ok I can confirm it works with transferring your memory card from fpse to epsxe. (save state doesn't work! Has a different framework)
The memory card is located at /sdcard/.FPSE./memcard (its a hidden folder so make sure your file explorer has show hidden folders enabled.)
Copy slot1.mcd to epsxe memcard folder (located at sdcard) and rename the file to epsxe000.mcr launch epsxe and enjoy no more missing sounds! I bought them both and the two euros I spent for epsxe were worth my money Let me know if you need help if it doesn't work but it worked out for me, happy ff7ing man!

Ouu this sounds fun
All I need now is to find a decent FF7 iso I guess...
Going to install EPSXE now! :good:
Epsxe on an HD720p screen like ours just sucks hard.
But if you like pixels, why not, right, you won't have any difficulties to set it up, there are almost no possible settings xD
Final Fantasy 7 without Fpse's openGL mode is just ugly.
As for sound, I guess you've tried Spusync option? And what format is your iso? if it's .bin, you need the .cue that goes with.
Also use framelimiter to get constant fps, and play a little with "latency" option in MISC settings. FF7 runs perfect in openGL on my oneX, no sound problem, and no ugly pixels and blurry filtering like Epsxe
@AndyLeJizm: "visual wise", Epsxe is just ugly on HD screen and tablets. Fpse can render PS1 game at your screen real resolution, and sound problems can most of the time be solved if you use the accurate settings.
Also Epsxe may have better support for sh...y downloaded ROMs from the internet, that's true, and explains most of the time why people go to Epsxe.....

It looks fine to me (somewhat smoother graphics then original ps1, cause they have hardware rendering now with new update), whoever played final fantasy 7 knows that graphics don't matter especially for a game that's thirteen years old and sound is super important with oldskool rpg games. And yes I've spent countless nights to figure out how to get perfect sound emulation on both my phone and tablets with fpse but it never came close to 100% (missing instruments in music, sound fx that sounded real bad) In my opinion, if you don't care about nifty graphics but really want 100% the same identical ps1 rom (or ofcourse a music lover that loves oldskool nobuo uematsu fantasy music) as it was supposed to be then epsxe really
Is better. Might not be the best looking but it sure is the best sounding my two cents.

On my Galaxy S5 both emulators run smooth. I use fpse, because the opengl plugin works great, makes the game look way better than on the PS.
And still it runs smooth. In fact, no matter what settings i try, fpse seems to be around 10% too fast. I played youtube movies of fixed sequences, such as the gold sauces speed square, as they run on the PS and my emulated game clearly finished earlier, even when i synchronized them at the beginning. This is with frame limit enabled of course.

edit: nevermind, problem fixed. For future reference, anyone getting garbled graphics followed by the game crashing near the beginning of the game should enable "Divide Counters"
How well does psx4droid work on the G2/DZ ?
well mine lags a little during cinematics...
other than that it's fine i guess...

it does work well. the only problem is getting the games to work. it only uses certain file formats so you aim to find roms already in those file formats.
the only game i have so far is command and conquer red alert. where do you guys find games that dont need to be modified much to work with psx4droid?
Version
What version of psx4 were you using? Iv got the lite version and the new 2.0 version. Some games play good in lite and some play better in 2
Wait for fpse, should be landing tonight hopefully and allegedly improves performance drastically.
Fpse is 100x better than psx4droid.

Hello all.
I am having problems with emulation on my newly purchased xperia play.
I downloaded snesoid because I was recommended to get it by a friend *and apparently the internet is crazy about it*. When I tried playing Megaman X on it, there was very noticeable slowdown. The first stage *highway* ran at noticeably slower speeds than it did on the snes. It was playable, but felt sluggish. At first I was okay with this, but then I played it on my friend's phone just to test it out, and his was runninghttp://media.xda-developers.com/images/editor/menupop.gif it perfectly.
Does anyone know why that may be?
I also downloaded snes9x ex to test it out, and the app runs great! Problem with this app, unfortunately, is the VERY noticeable input latency. It makes platformers really odd to play on with.
I tried Seiken Densetsu 3 on Snesoid as well, and that game glitches out every conversation that comes up. The screen will flicker for a second. Very jarring.
Has anyone else experienced these kind of things with theirs, and if so, does anyone know a fix for this?
If this is phone specific, I am just going to return it since it only has been a day and just get a new one, but I want to make sure I can't do anything to fix it on my end before hand, this way I can at least learn something about these phones if there is a fix I CAN do at home, since I currently am a huge phone noob.
Something very interesting I just noticed.
Just tried Megaman X2 and X3 and those games run perfectly.
Color me confused.
Yea, SNES9x plays better with less glitches, but has noticeable button lag. Took forever for me to beat DKC, especially the mine cart stages.
Im sorry to hear about your problem mate but mine seems to run all of the games perfectly smooth. Ive had no such issues yet regarding the snesoid emulator.
If you feel strongly about it I would suggest trying out a new sexplay.
Also note the programs you have running in your running services log. Something there may be interfering with your gameplay. I can't seem to use Swiftkey X on my Xplay as it causes lag that kills the experience on nearly every game I play.
But the button lag is something you will have to deal with on any XPlay and SNES9x. Unfortunate, and hopefully will be fixed by the author at some point.
Is there button input lag with Snes A.D (free emulator on market) ?
Could someone test it for me ? I'm supposed to get the phone next week, and I chose it especially for emulation so I'd be disappointed if there are any issues with SNES games.
Have had not any issues with these games.
I use SnesOid and TigerSNES - both free.
same here, gensoid running silky smooth, fpse running perfectly fine, tiger arcade for th e most games also good, but imho useless cause no dip switch access or neo geo rom settings(tried that mame4all but no thanks, seems it support only legacy roms, don`t wanna convert all my roms for that program, the few that were running on mame4all were also laggy)
but snesoid(latest version) isn`t running good,as i stated in another thread.
for example super castlevania 4,it doesn`t matter if frameskip is on or off,set to manual or auto,it`s far away from running smooth, there is a slight stuttering when you look at the background as your character moves forward-also numerous other games..tried snes 9x or what is called, realized it doesn`t load any of my snes roms because it cant read .zip files, only .smc and even with .smc it won`t open some roms.i`ll try this tiger snes now
Hated SNES A.D. looking for a good emu right now too.
when u complain about noticeable input lag in snes9x, what kind of games are u playing? ive never really had any issues with it since its around a 10th of a second (tbh i doubt id ever of noticed it playing things like super metroid)
all of my games are in .zip files and ive never had any issues with the emulator at all, destroys snesoid imo. i do hope that the input lag is fixed, but overall i think its a much better emulator than anything else available.
I sure would like to try snes9x.... can't find it though! Little help?

i noticed just earlier after i posted realizing i hadn't received an update in some time. It appears to have been removed from the market, odd considering that all his other emulators are still there and one of his main selling points was compliance with the gpl of snes9x (the reason it was free as opposed to his other emulators)
the website is http://www.explusalpha.com/home
Robert Brogalia is the devs name, check out his other apps, they all get fantastic feedback.
Oh my god! This emulator is amazing! Everyone get it. This should just come on the phone..... LOL

u can change the dpi of the menus, turn off that shocking linear filtering that snesoid and all them use(i like me some retro blockiness) and it doesnt appear but when scrolling through lists thumb scroll works just fine.
Looks like I have to start over on Zelda, guess the saves are different from snesnoid. So worth it though.
Sent from my R800a using xda premium
u just have to change the extention to the same one used in snes9x...if i recall snesoid uses .sav, snes9x uses .sma or something, i got all mine working so if u fiddle u should get it, afaik quicksaves are a no-go however, just the battery backup works.
Snesoid is based on the snes9x source anyway......
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
if people are finding solutions that work better for them thats a good thing, i dont care if the source is the same, i find it to be a better emulator. i will say i initially bought all yonghz apps including n64oid.
Goping back on topic i just got myself a Play today, and i have major problems with games on gameboid, genesoid, snesoid theyw ill jump around and skip frames. I know why it's becuase it has frameskip set to 2 by default. If i set it to 0 then the audio produces an annoying stuttering and clicking. I just don't belive this ive seen thousands of videos showing th performance and sound of the games and its perfect. Ive even rooted and stripped my Play of some apps too. Now im really at wits end this thing wont emulate any game perfectly... What can i do????

Trust me mate, I've tried everything on both of my Xperia Plays. One stock, and one overclocked to 1.6ghx with CyanogenMod 7.
I'm at the same stage... I set games to 0 frameskipping and most games run perfectly, however if I enable the sound I get this horrible crackle (and with TigerMAME 3.0.3 noticable lag spikes - which is a damn shame). I think most of these emus need optimising for Xperia Play.
'Perfect' is such an over-used term these days... However these are the best emus of the bunch in my opinion... Trust me, I'm extremely anal when it comes to emulation.
TigerMAME 3.0.3 - With sound disabled can run games like Gigawing and Mars Matrix perfectly. I really hope the audio can be optimised. I'm currently playing the above two games with my own music playing in the background until then. Also, I believe older versions of Tiger run more games than this release...
MAME4Droid - Good for games which fall under the old MAME romset. Most games run smooth with audio (a lot of older games run perfectly) and the amount of CPU/audio customisation is unrivaled.
SNES9X EX - Runs games perfectly (excluding the Mode-7 heavy titles), with only slight audio crackle... Hoping for this to be resolved soon.
MD.EMU - The best Genesis/Megadrive emu around, same dev as SNES9X EX. Does the job where others fail (ie: near perfect Sonic 3 performance). Some audio problems here also.
GBAoid - Seems to work perfectly with everything I've tried. I need to put more research into GBA emu.
Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone uses FPse, the PSX emulator. I just recently purchased it and that damed thing killed my weekend. I was playing Metal Gear Soild the entire weekend trying to get the best performance etc. Looks like 'old software drawing' and Open-GL Blits mode or whatever works the best, but I want to rock Open GL. Once I turn it on, the performance plummets for me. Any suggestions on settings etc?
EDIT: Would a certain BIOS make a difference in performance? I'm using SCPH1002
Thanks,

i was stunned how it works, no lag no nothing with a game 627MB big. i use scph1001 as he recommended and thats it. non of the tweeks in video settings do anything cuz the frame rate stays at 59-60 constant and the picture quality stays the same, not perfectly clear but decent.

Never heard of Skullmonkeys.

Requires no setup in order to play games smoothly Give it a try
He's asking for settings for opengl graphics, he can run it fine on his normal settings, doesn't need a new emu.

Difference by changing BIOS:
On boot screen text changes - sometimes Trademark logo, sometimes Copyright
Different menu for memory card management.
FPS lock ---
by last number in bios
0 - Japan NTSC --- 60FPS SCPH-1000, ...
1 - USA NTSC --- 60FPS SCPH-1001, SCPH-101, ...
2 - Europe PAL --- 50FPS SCPH-1002, SCPH-7502, ...
best BIOS for using is SCPH-101 - its newest bios from PS One console - much smaller and rounded corners
and also use NTSC-U game ISO
I've always used the 1001 bios for my PS1 emulators. I've used both FPse and ePSXe and FPse is honestly smoother for me. I have never messed with the performance settings and its always ran good. I played through all of Metal Gear Solid on my tablet with no issues.
Side note: I've been playing Final Fantasy 7 lately. I had forgotten how fun that game is.
I really look forward to test different emus on the Shield: PSX, SNES and GBA. IMHO Shield will be the ultimate retro gaming machine without the need to hack/jailbreak it.
I will want root just to see how much we can push that tegra 4 and sixaxis controller app needs root to work.. since its got HDMI out on it, I can connect it to my TV in my room, sync the PS3 remote and game on!

Because shield is way more powerful than OUYA perhaps?
Shields A15 core vs OUYAs A9 gives a huge boost in performance, the Shield is clocked higher and has way more GPU cores.
Someone will probably root the Shield pretty damn quick, sixaxis probably wont be a problem.

That's called a "fallback". If the app isn't catching it when you're trying to assign the button, they somehow really messed up the app.
Fallback occurs when an app doesn't handle a button press. For instance, pressing B falls back to BACK if an app doesn't support the B button. Most controller-based apps do, though... :-/
The more I play the more a realize that there seems to be a slight audio delay in basically any emulator I use. The video quality is great, no stuttering or anything, but it seems like the audio is delayed like a fraction of a second on everything. Like in mega man on nes I push jump and he does the complete jump then I hear the sound or if I shoot the gun the sound comes after the bullet is halfway between his weapon and the edge of the screen.
In the SNES emulator I have tried there seems to be delay. I tested that in contra 3 using weapons.
In mupen64 or supern64 there is a delay which I have noticed playing majora's mask. Swing links weapon and he completes the swing before the weapon makes a sound or if you are running and do a roll, he has completed the roll before you hear the sound.
A quick google search returned a few recent results with similar experiences on various android devices. Anyway, it isn't a deal breaker and I hope it gets sorted at some point.

This is a problem if the emulator is just mapping hardware buttons and doesn't understand controllers. I don't think there's a lot you can do in that case (except maybe hope they update the emulator). All the emulators I have installed work fine.

So which acutal emulator apps are you guys using?
I havn't mess with emulation and want to try it out on the shield.

so far the best emulation and control support I found is:
Snes9x EX+
SuperN64
FPse ( the analog triggers wont map) can any1 find a better one? or Free 1?
PPSSPP (some games load but audio and some models are glitched)
and the dolphin emu is in alpha but i get nothing.<<<i would pay money for this one and the psp one
if they get them optimized for shield
Not really about emulation, but the factors that affect it that google has no answer for.
1. I noticed the ouya gets very warm, not overheating but it makes me wonder if it's like my htc one where it throttles the gpu clock speed depending on temperature?
2. I run my games from a cheap usb stick; will games / movies run with better performance with a higher quality stick or if they are put in internal storage?
3. I heard that the overscan function does nothing. Maybe it's the update but mine fixes the aspect ratio perfectly, I'm just wondering if this has an impact on performance as well.
4. I've noticed at random on both ePSXe and FPSE (paid versions) flickering lines at the bottom of the screen. I have no more info on this but was curious to see if anyone else has the same problem. I was thinking it was some kind of interference since my ouya is next to lots of other eletronics. Or maybe if the overscan function has something to do with it.
I'm trying to make a perfect emulation storage box to replace my mass of tangled controllers, cables, and power strips in power strips for all my old consoles. If I find any useful info on these I'll post it, thanks!:fingers-crossed:
So the flickering lines only happen on hardware rendering mode, which is the best since software looks bad and opengl is too slow.
ePSXe doesn't have this issue on other android devices, the reason I use it over FPSE is the sound quality is much higher and more accurate.
The retroarch psx emulator is better imo than both epsxe and fpse except for the interface sux. That flickering thing drove me nuts on fpse menus but it didn't do it during gameplay for me.

I'll give it a shot, do you happen to know if it works with Nostalgia? It's an app that sorts all your games with covers, great interface.
I have no clue I've never used that.. But I need to lol

I just spent a bunch of time configuring Retroarch, all for naught... Mednafen's Libretro doesn't boot, pscx-rearmed libretro doesn't load ff8 battles, and when launched in Nostalgia neither of them retain their settings. How is the xperia play faring better at emulating these games than a Tegra 3??

I was using it on the OUYA to play castlevania sotn and the psx version of chrono trigger and it was the only one that made the audio and video pretty close to perfect. It wasn't really expert advice or anything. Sorry man. I just pretty much plugged and played. Didn't spend too much time configuring stuff.

Which Bios number did you use? And did you select mednafen or rearmed? You're helping me a bunch, I just keep running into slight problems that lower the quality of my emulation, and I'm pretty picky when given so many options.
Rearmed was the one I liked. For bios I'm pretty sure I went with scph1001 although I'm not sure at the moment I'm not home. I also had been running the cm10 build back when I was playing those games but I don't know that it makes any difference except that it screwed up the chrono trigger cutscenes on fpse. Also I used tegra overclock to set GPU to 520mhz maybe that played a role in performance. I tried really hard to find a standalone apk for the rearmed emulator with no luck. I couldn't ever get the buttons to map correctly with retroarch on my ps3 controller which blew my mind. Had to use sixaxis controller and swap buttons around to get it to map properly, but it worked perfect with the OUYA controller right out of the box. I didn't play any other games aside from those two so there's also the issue of some games needing differing settings to work right. I just found what worked for my narrow set of expectations. I'm kinda getting the urge to mess with it some more, maybe I'll have some time this weekend to check out this nostalgia and revisit the performance of the different emulators.

Well Playstation-wise I got it working almost perfectly. I used schp1001 bios for rearmed libretro, selected that in nostalgia and made sure in the main retroarch settings to have no filter, and to save on exit (you must actually hit the exit button to save).
Here were my settings once I was in the retroarch game menu with a rom loaded:
Core Options: frameskip 0, dynamic recompiler enabled, interlacing mode enabled, enhanced resolutions enabled, frame duping off.
Settings -> video options: vsync off, Threaded driver on, whatever aspect ratio you want.
Settings -> video options -> Shader options: Default filter nearest, shader passes 1, shader#0 advanced-aa(under antialiasing), shader#0 filter nearest, shader#0 scale 1x.
After all that, save new config and quit retroarch. These settings gave me near opengl graphics better than the original and enough speed to clearly play Final Fantasy 9 and Legend of Dragoon. It looks and plays better than fpse and epsxe.
?? glad you got it working right. I wish some clever dev would build a better GUI for just the rearmed psx emulator that would be great.

I also found out that that screen flickering doesn't happen on ePSXe running software mode. Nobody else seems to have this problem though

Last post on this matter, epsxe and fpse flickering on screen is fixed by disabling hardware overlays in advanced -> developer options on the ouya..

1) It's possible, but I doubt it. I think it's pretty unlikely that a Tegra 3, which is designed for fanless use, would overheat with a heatsink and fan. Throttling is common with smartphones because of the lack of a fan.
2) Anything cartridge based will typically be small enough that transfer speed isn't an issue. Anything disc-based was expecting to be reading from an optical disc, so even a slow flash-based solution is going to be faster.
