Hey,
I've been looking around and I can't find a good list of useful tablet optimized apps. Since Play Store only has a "Staff Choices for Tables" and not a real section, I think a list of apps ala Games list for Nexus 7 is appropriate.
Optimized Tablet Apps
-Dropbox
-Evernote
-Firefox
-Friendcaster
-Kingsoft Office
-IMDB
-IM+
-Movies By Flixster
-Pulse
-Photoshop Touch (side load)
-Score Mobile
-Skitch
-TED
-Write
----Most Gapps:
-Calendar
-Chrome (however, no hiding the navbar/fullscreen)
-Currents
-Drive
-Earth
-Email
-Google+
-Gmail
-Maps
-Play Store
-Youtube
Not Optimized, but work well
-Adobe Reader
-BBC News
-Cloud SMS
-ES File Explorer
-Flipboard
-HandyCalc
-Medscape
-MxPlayer
-SketchBookX
-Sky Map
-Swype Beta (side load)
If anybody have some good apps, please share
score mobile for tablet is pretty solid
In play store is app called "tablet market" and there is list of all tablet apps
Nexus 7 Tapatalk
I think I disagree with the definition of tablet optimized. You seem to be equating it to landscape mode.
If the screen layout is different on a large screen device, and not just scaled up, it is optimized for tablets.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
the play store has a section called optimised for tablets, and what would you know, it has the exact same apps that you listed. if your going to post a thread like this it might be best if you do research by checking apps instead of just copying the list google already made.

Every app I have listed I use, well Firefox and Chrome I don't use anymore because imo AOSP is better.

Can you explain where you found that? I've found a tab "for tablets" but those are "staff picks for tablets", not "optimized for tablets".
Who cares if it's somewhere buried in the play store? I for one NEVER read the front page of the play store. 99% of my apps and games are from reading recommendations from websites or forums like this.
Continue the list, it's a great idea...

Dropbox? I might have to disagree on you for that.
The various Tablet sections on the Play store (in app and online) have a relatively limited list of apps.
I, for one, appreciate these lists when they are posted; as sometimes they provide some hidden gems I wouldn't otherwise know about.

It is? Looks like the exact same Pulse I see on my phone, just.. Just slightly more space from screen resolution differences.
Must have to have a custom ROM with tablet UI or the DPI turned down, stock N7 the app looks exactly like the phone version, no side view of the story etc.

Apps that are essentials or must-have that are under the radar. Apps that would not be under this category are ones like gmail, titanium backup, ect.
Titanium Backup... J/k of course.

RealSilent is my pick.
It simply silences your media volume when your phone's ringer is in silent mode. No more opening up apps and having them make noise when your phone is supposed to be silent. I choose to have the phone still play media when the phone is in "vibrate" mode, however, so I can turn put my phone in silent and listen to music/podcasts without being interrupted by notifications.

Didn't see either of those in the market.
Reddionic, new reddit app that beats otherp opular apps
Angel Browser is excellent. Highly configurable, save/restore bookmarks, proxy settings, sane interface.
Logging Test App is great for finding and eliminating adware and loggers like carrier iq, etc.
Display Tester is a perfect for checking out your screen, finding best gamma settings, etc.

N.memo is an extremely underrated and very handy notification memo app. Simple and efficient.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mm123.nmemo
ClipBird lets you easily pass clipboard information from your phone to your desktop(s) and back. Extremely handy once you get it set up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chefgon.clipbird
I also really enjoy AntTek File Explorer with the Holo light theme. Full featured and getting better every day.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anttek.explorer
Wi-Fi Web Login is a paid app but extremely handy if your campus/workplace/favorite coffee shop has Wi-Fi requiring you to login/accept a EULA.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.uk.syslynx.wifiwebloginapp
Palmary Weather was the only weather app (of like 35 I tried) that had a 4x1 widget I didn't hate. Very configurable (including opacity).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.palmarysoft.forecaweather
I'm also a big fan of MemoPad, which is simple but does exactly what it should.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tgreerdev
And of course.. Notification Toggle, Prefixer and BetterBatteryStats, but everybody already knows about those, right?
Screeble! has been a staple for my last three phones.
Quickly wrap your screenshots with device artwork, providing better context.
Still lots of improvements to come, stay tuned!

I was curious how much was going to be included on that app since it was brand new.
I downloaded it and the first thing I did was open Google Now and say "note top self". It worked like a charm. Plus you can share notes with any one. It's definitely a go. It might even get the flossy seal of approval.

There's just some overall niggles I don't like too.

I like that with Google Keep, you can say "Note to self". Keep also transcribes speech to text. Evernote doesn't do that.

Except previously, it would only email the note verses "Keep"-ing the note.
Evernote doesn't take advantage of note-to-self and also does not do speech-to-text transcription.

I have been using the app for the last two days and I really enjoy it lots of great points made but overall this app is from Google and has full Google now so support!
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Neemot, I really couldn't agree more. While the stock "memo" app is adequate the "Keep" app really excels. I too have been playing with it the last few days and it is awesome. If anyone is on the fence(which it is free so that makes no sense if you are) let me articulate why it is nice.
1. Ease of use. It is simple and uncomplicated. While some other note apps are cluttered with features this really shows less is more.
2. The ability to share. Great for families.
3. Universal voice to text.
4. Great widget.
5. Easy organization within the app.
One feature I would love to see is picture to text. My wife and I keep our grocery list on a white board in our kitchen. We usually just snap a photo of it as we head out the door. If that picture could be turned into a list on your phone that would be pretty dandy.
Well, that's my two cents. In short, Google Calendar and now Keep really help it busy family out.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Yes, I used the "note to self" a lot...didn't like that it went to email, now it's better. I can't wait til they update this more...hopefully they won't 'sunset' it like they've done to a lot of other things...
I would love to see Google Tasks get rolled into this, where you can add a datetime due date/reminder for a given Keep note.

The smoothness seems about the same to me, but I can see why you would say its not as smooth, there are times where it tends to lag a bit.

3. Will they ever bring back the option to see your purchased apps.
It seems like they made it more plain. Thanks for the apk though. It works perfect and was way easy to install.
Edit: spelling

The icons seem bigger and crisper in this version, this is just a subjective opinion but I think that this version looks more sleek and has a 'newer' feel than the old app store. I haven't experienced any noticeable increase in lag either, or if there is it's not by a fantastic margin. Installed flawlessly on Lifeless14.
i didnt like it because of the bland look but after installing the black version with purple text its awesome
I plan on transferring all of my apps and games over to my Nexus 7 with Paranoid Android ROM installed via Titanium Backup minus the Samsung only stuff in the coming days... figured I'd post this to give other people ideas about what to install on their amazing new devices since it can be time-consuming to search and navigate the market sometimes if you are new to the Android scene. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks!
Here are some screenshots of my Samsung Galaxy Note II smartphone as of 08.12.13. Four Apex Launcher Pro homescreens running in CleanROM V5.0 with Perseus Kernel V36.3... The screenshots include my most used and favorite apps somewhat sorted by category... have around 220 apps installed after months of stability and battery testing, but have narrowed it down to the best to be displayed on the 196 available spots due to the custom 7x7 grid... check it out if you need some new Android apps!

You "must have" all those? My only "must have" are:
1. SS Launcher
2. Naked Browser
3. K9 mail
(and XDA app, being 1 of 99 others)
Must have means apps you MUST have..

In Android, there's no such thing as 'Must have'. There're always replacements.

If we took all of the "Must Have" or "Best Of" threads, merged them, then moved them to the Trash....
I've never seen so many icons in a status bar

Icon overload right there. How do you find anything?

I have ocd to having a clean status bar all time. That's madness
App Dialer + Advanced Home Button. Simply the best thing you can have on android device.

Even that app isn't as crappy as all of the "Must have apps" threads. I actually (used to) use a poop app, but now that I'm taking more regular fiber, I don't need to monitor it quite as much as I did a few years ago when I got, erm, backed up..
Is this thread derailed yet?
IMO the only must have app is play store y'know what Im sayin

No sadly I have no idea what you're saying because that's dumb, without any other apps the tablet is useless.
If you mean, that you can get the other apps by downloading them, then your answer is retarded and contradicts itself.

Actually his post is the only true and correct answer to 'what are the must have apps?' question. Everything else is opinion and personal preference.

Well, if you want apps like AdAway, it was removed from the play store. You'll have to get it from F-Droid.

I always install AdAway first befor anything else and i replace Chrome with Dolphin and grab MX Player, ES File Explorer thats all i use i think the Play Store is my most used app lol im alwaus browsing but never installing
Nice collection!
Might as well scrap screencast, while your at it. It wont work on the N7. Not compatible with Tegra 2/3 devices.

That's a lot of icons in the status bar, alone. All I have have is my book library, Google's music app, Sims freeplay, Tapatalk 4, Chrome, Instagram, & Pinterest. What you have is just madness:silly:
