after ICS, Google started to use Roboto as android's default english font. so I found 6 types of style here :
/system/fonts/Roboto-Bold.ttf
/system/fonts/Roboto-BoldItalic.ttf
/system/fonts/Roboto-Italic.ttf
/system/fonts/Roboto-Light.ttf
/system/fonts/Roboto-LightItalic.ttf
/system/fonts/Roboto-Regular.ttf
before you replace these, you need to know the font's classification, someone complained that when repaced the Roboto-Bold.ttf, the device restart into boot-loop, I think maybe that was because u replaced a BOLD style with a REGULAR one (android2.3 dones't check this).
FontCreator-6.5-pro(which i use) can change the font's properties.
for example, change a Regular font into Bold, here is the steps:
1、open a regular font(most of fonts in http://www.fonts2u.com/ are regular style) with the FontCreator;
2、Format(in the menubar) -> settings -> Classification;
3、change the "Weight" value into "Bold";
4、change the "Width" value into "Medium(normal)";
5、only tick off a single bold in "Font Design(windows)";
6、only tick off a single bold in "Mac Style".
7、save it and u can use it to replace the Roboto-Bold.ttf file.
-------------------------
How to change the LockScreen Digital Clock Font?
/system/fonts/AndroidOpia.ttf seems no longer be used in Jelly Bean(which android 2.3 use it as LockScreen Clock Font)
so you need to replace those three files to change the lock clock font:
/system/fonts/AndroidClock.ttf
/system/fonts/AndroidClock_Highlight.ttf
/system/fonts/AndroidClock_Solid.ttf
those three files are totally same, and only contains 16 chars: not_def, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, M, P, :, space, 0.
u can edit the original to replace the chars in sequence.(use FontCreator6.5pro)
---------------
the attachment fonts was tested in my Nexus 7.
Looks like you need to be rooted for that. Or you can use ssLauncher, add any font you wish, and use throughout your screens. True, doesn't change in-app fonts, but typically those are very readable. Sample of ssLauncher, with app folder and Quickpic in Segoe bold (tilted at 4 degrees) and page title in Jokerman. Touching anywhere on camera launches camera app. Root not required.
If I were rooted I'd change system fonts too!
system fonts replacing
Can I just replace a Roboto-Regular.ttf ? I replaced that font file with my Unicode font and when I reboot my nexus 7 , it was in boot loop, so I have to reset to factory and re-root it again. Now I am afraid to do it again Can someone explain it to me what happen please?
I changed the system font with Rom toolbox app and I can read my Unicode font on fire fox but on google and gmail, gtalk , whatapps etc my fonts are miss place. what do I need to check or read about it? I have high-logic FontCreator too.
You helped me get rid of the ugly, boring JB system font!
Thanks for the advice!
I, however, found no less than 12 different 'Roboto' fonts. So I edited a new set of my favorite one, 'Rehotalko' using FontCreator, and used the properties of each as instructed in the OP. It was a little laborious, but it worked like a charm!
See here for the installation method (post #8): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011339
Thanks to this thread my phone is how it should be.... thumbs up man!!!
i used this thread as a guide and changed like literally every font everywhere to Anke Sans haha on my GNex running XenonHD 9.5 (a 4.2.2 rom)
All the fonts mentioned above plus the RobotoCondensed versions.. AND opened up my DeskClock.apk and overwrote the fonts in the /assets/fonts directory (making sure the classifications matched) then adb pushed the DeskClock app back to /system/app and presto worked great! i appreciate the tips above to make it all happen!
For those that are curious, heres every one i modified..
Roboto-Regular, Roboto-Bold, Roboto-Italic, Roboto-BoldItalic, Roboto-Light, Roboto-LightItalic, Roboto-Thin, Roboto-ThinItalic, RobotoCondensed-Regular, RobotoCondensed-Bold, RobotoCondensed-Italic, RobotoCondensed-BoldItalic, AndroidClock, AndroidClock_Solid, AndroidClock_Highlight, DroidSans, DroidSans-Bold, DroidSansMono, Clockopia.. then extracted from DeskClock.apk, AndroidClockMono-Bold, AndroidClockMono-Light, AndroidClockMono-Thin, Roboto-Thin (but thats also a system font that you'll see change in the app before even modding it)
good luck haha!

Any suggestion? I tried to follow your steps and will still see what happened.
I was able to change the minutes, however, they it was not properly aligned with the hour.
I am using FontCreator 6.5. ANy suggestion? Thanks!

I'm guessing you would have to decompile apk's and edit xml files.
Related
This is the final font changing manual (as far as i'm concerned), based on bhodgin's manual and KDiz additions and holyfox's tools.
I've only tested on a dutch Touch HD, so maybe the TF3D is built different.
There is quite a diference between my manual and KDiz's manual
I'm assuming the TF3D on the HD is different from the Diamond, hence the difference
So how did i do it:
First copy over all .ttf files from your Blackstones Windows folder to a backup folder somewhere
(turn on hidden and system files in Total Commander or Resco Explorer if you can't see them)
Now choose the font you want to use, i used Continuum (Regular, Bold and Light)
so i started off with 3 ttf files in a folder on my computer.
Make a subfolder and put copy's of your ttf files in it.
1 x light font file, 2 x regular font file and 2 x bold font file
Then rename them according to the following list (added -> to show what file impacts what):
fontname -> changes font in TF3D
cour.ttf -> TF3D light font
tahoma.ttf -> WM regular font (regular text)
tahomabd.ttf -> WM bold font (task and bottembar and other bold text)
neue Helvetica LT 35 Thin.ttf -> TF3D Regular Font (all the bigger title text in TF3D -> Calls, mail title, settings title, weather title etc.)
neue Helvetica LT 55 Roman.ttf -> TF3D Bold Font (all the small text in TF3D -> Appointmentsmail example, settings, weather)
Now you have the above files in your subfolder.
Now follow this procedure for every font:
open the ttf file in FontCreator.
go to Tools > AutoNaming.
Here you enter fontname, click 'Next'.
Another window will open, select 'Finish.'
File > Save
The fontnames you should put in are (i think you will understand wich name goes with what file ):
Courier New
Tahoma
Tahoma Bold
HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin
HelveticaNeue LT 55 Roman
IF YOU DON'T AUTONAME CORRECTLY IT WILL NOT WORK !!!
Now you have the 5 files in your folder.
Open WinCE CAB Manager. A window will pop up.
Go through the Wizard and fill in a name and cab name and accept the defaults.
Add the newly made .ttf files to the Files tab (open the tab through the Cab tree on the left side).
Select all of the files and rmb to properties. On the location tab select the Windows folder and Apply and OK.
It should now read %Windows% for all 5 files.
Save your CAB, copy to your phone, run it and it should work.
To be on the safe side, disable TF3D when installing the CAB and reset twice (needed sometimes, dunno why) after the install.
You could copy the TTF files manually to the \Windows folder instead of using/creating a CAB.
And here's how my first CAB looks (includes only the fonts):

[HOW TO REMOVE THE INSTALLED FONTS]
Preferably just uninstall the CAB.
The second option is to manualy delete the font files from your phone.
Just search for TTF in the Windows folder on your mobile (view hidden and system files on).
[KNOWN BUGS]
On the Weather tab the degree setting misses a number on some fonts.
Possible solution here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3439015&postcount=28
The € sign isn't part of a couple of fonts so it doesn't work.
Make sure to have a font file with € if you create a font please !

HELP
I'm trying to replace font according this tutorial... but i have some issue with my HelveticaNeue LT 55 Roman font
all other fonts are correct but this one seems to be ignored, and the default helvetica comes up. So the question is: what's wrong in my font? Why manila doesn't display it as bold? as HelveticaNeue LT 35 Thin it works!
up... anyone?
Great tutorial, I have one problem after I made my font. The weather degree is not showing properly, is there any way of fixing this?
@HawaiianPunchMan
Is there any chance you can post a CAB for your taskbar please as Ive been following the thread on the diamond forum but not happy with Tsowen's icons. Also the Vista start orb is squashed.
I think there is a Taskbar thread for the HD here. Your additional input/tallent would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know how to get the windows font into Touchflo. Ive installeda font but it only appears to have changed in windows.
did you followed the instructions? try to change font, some fonts appears to be incompatible (see my previous post...)

I've got the exact same problem.
So I thought, I'll just copy the font I want into the windows folder with this name - But then things went to hell and for some reason I was not able to write anything but numbers - only if I choose the normal "keyboard".
With the original "phone keyboard" I had problems writing letters.
Anyone know how I could fix this?

hey can u tell me which r these fonts and how to use them ??/
the font that you see in the screenshots is rock show whiplash..you can find and downloading it for free..once you've download it,you have to rename it in DroidSans.ttf and you must to make a copy of this file, rename it to DroidSans-Bold.ttf and put them in a folder of your sdcard...then,you've to access on the recovery mode, type alt+x and:
mount sdcard
mount system
cp sdcard/yourfolder/* system/fonts
umount system
umount sdcard
reboot
et voilà! =)
PS:sorry for my english!
If we decide to go back to the old font is it as easy as just reinstalling any of cm's roms? Or do we need to get the old font and do the same process as you described?

Installation instructions
Needless to say, only attempt this if you are comfortable modifying system files. As we are using the SDE for this, the potential risk of bricking/ irreversible damage is low, but you should still have some idea what you're doing! (Warning stolen from fisha21)
unzip framework-res_vx.x.apk.zip and copy the framework-res.apk and services.jar to /sdcard/
with adb execute the following commands
Code:
adb push framework-res.apk /sdcard/
adb push services.jar /sdcard/
adb shell
su
stop
cp /sdcard/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
cp /sdcard/services.jar /system/framework/
sync
start
ATTENTION after the start command it can take up to 5 mins depending the number of apps installed because the dalvik cache must be regenerated.
Version 0.5

Difficult. I can't find anything in the xml files that control the placement of the text in the battery. I'm looking in services.jar if I can fully disable the percent text.
you wouldnt need to add system text, just put the text as numbers within each of the 100 circle images you are using. its been done on loadso f other phones already you could probably just use the images from them.

Yes I know that BUT the default battery percentage will be overlaid on the images so still the same problem.
ah so that means that the mod as it stands already does have the % battery life in numbers in the middle? why didnt you say?

Sorry Need to add that part but if you look at the bugs it's mentioned there. Need to add it more clearly.
I'm working on a fix for the percentage but that means decompiling service.jar and hacking the davlik code.

I'll talk to him about it. He's having problems with the compile process at the moment I've given him some pointers.
i tried the UOT once again over a heavenly allready modified framework-res.apk and it made a beautiful batt-circle, booted:
BUT: all google apps and some apps in the notification bar crash immidiatly.
didn't try to clear dalvik for now - could help maybe.
maybe its because the UOT renames all dirs and the app to *-v4? and writes the animatated symbols to drawable-hdpi instead of mdpi?

Certainly, should be ready for you in the next couple of days!
Turns out the main issues I was having were due to Uruk 0.7. For some reason, Uruk 0.7 installed to internal SD doesn't appear to be compatible with framework modification (as far as I can tell).
Added v0.3 with gradient colors and better charging animation.
Version 0.4
Better charging animation for 100% battery full
Just curious - did you manage to get UOT to generate the mdpi resolution images, or did you resize the hdpi ones manually?

Porting Android 3.0 Honeycomb Lockscreen Digital Clock
I think you all are aware of the new Honeycomb Lockscreen Digital Clock that has 2 colors. It adds a funky look and is pretty cool and nice on the Lockscreen. I have decided to port it from Honeycomb SDK to other Android Devices.
I have tested it and it works well on Galaxy S XWJVB Android 2.3.3. I suppose it should work fine for other devices too.
What's so special in this Digital Clock?
This is an obvious question. Why to port the digital clock when a simple TTF font file replacement could do the job? Hmm.. Have you noticed that the Clock uses 2 font colors? A TTF file generally contains the font, but the color attribute is specified in the XML file. Hence, the Digits in the clock can only carry one color attribute. The Digital Clock in Honeycomb uses special rendering to display 2 font colors. Its relatively simple.
There are 2 TTF file which contain distinct digits. Hence 2 types of Clock Text with 2 different font faces are rendered. They are overlapped on each other and using XML attributes each "Textview" is assigned a different text color. This is what creates the funky looking digits. Pretty Cool eh?
Instructions for developers.
1. Download the attached Source.
2. Decompile the framework-res.apk with APK Manager and make the required changes that are provided in the Source. You need to add a new ID in ids.xml "timeDisplayForeground" and make the appropriate addition in the public.xml too. Recompile when done.
3. Decompile the classes.dex from framework.jar to .smali files using baksmali utility.
5. Open the public.xml in framework-res.apk that you have edited previously.
6. Open DigitalClock.smali provided in the Source with a Text Editor and Search for "onFinishInflate", and change the 2 ID references to "timeDisplay" and "timeDisplayForeground" reference codes present in public.xml respectively.
7. Open DigitalClock$AmPm.smali and change the resource id under .line 103 to "am_pm" reference code present in public.xml
8. Replace the smali files that you have edited along with the other files and copy them to your decompiled framework. You need to replace them in com/android/internal/widget/
9. Recompile the framework.
10. Copy both the framework files to the framework folder in the device and copy the 2 font files provided to the fonts folder.

For users
I have decided not to make a version exclusive for the mod due to compatibility issues with other ROMs, hence I have applied this mod to my 5 lockscreen mod for Galaxy S JVB.
You can download it from this Thread:

I am wondering if it's possible to use each font's every style. Because on the system some places needed bold one, some of them normal. I tried to put them all as (for example Palatino Linotype); pala, palab, palabi, palai but it didn't work. Maybe you find a way to use them all. We need information about the default font styles how defined on system.

android usually has rugular, italics, bold fonts in its system and can be changed via replacing it in system by root methord or using some apps like ifont, hifont etc.
bt in case of emui, it dosent recognise regular, italics, bold fonts etc,
it only recognises the font if its named as droidsanschinsese.ttf and this is why most font apps dont work with emui
updated!!!!! (03/09/16)
9 new fonts added!!!!

So you're saying that we can only use one style? Not all of them?

not like that, even if we change droidsanschinese the font is reflected entirely, emui automatically scales the font at required place, ie bold, italic, light etc

I though Ubuntu's font can be nice, if you wanna add it.

Another one : Lato (flat design style). light version seems to be the best.
