I'm trying to gather a little information in regards to mobile data speeds specifically within the NYC area. A few questions if you may kindly respond to get the discussion rolling.
What modem/baseband/radio are you currently using?
What rom are you currently using?
How are your data speeds while on mobile data with said modem/baseband/radio?
Have you flashed any scripts/tweaks or use any apps to assist with your mobile data speeds?
With regards to location, where do you use mobile data the most? (post one of the 5 boroughs)
Thank you in advance to all who respond! :victory:

1) LJ7
2) CM10 latest nightly
3) Terrible piece of ****. Doesn't matter what baseband I'm using its **** data in my area.
4) Tried a few over the years, non have worked. Maybe someone can recommend me something?
5) Staten Island
I will say there are some areas in S.I. that have good data speeds...just not mine. Every other carrier but Sprint has good data speeds in my area.
I believe putting speeds, instead of "****" would help make this survey more accurate in terms of logistics. Haha

3: Just ran a test, 1.54Mbps Down, .88 up

5: I work in Queens, around Flushing is where I just did this test. I use data mostly in Manhattan when going in for meetings but have not checked my Manhattan speeds in a while. Heading home to Long Island, it sucks, get a lot of 1x areas
LJ7 Leak Modem/Baseband/Radio
LJ7 Leaked ROM
Can easily pull down well over 2 Mb/s in downtown Manhattan (Battery Park) late at night, and around 1.7 Mb/s average. Can also pull down around 2 Mb/s in Nassau county, LI on average. Where I live in Queens, 400 Kb/s average.
No tweaks or scripts of any kind. Personally don't believe they work.
I travel from Queens to Manhattan at least once a week, and have noticed that speeds in NYC seem to depend on network load. I generally get much better speeds late at night.
I've been getting a good 1-3mbps on 3g
I took this one just now

Damn. I'll be up around 125th next week, I hope I can test this out. I spend some time around Battery Park pretty regularly, but no LTE down there yet. I would think it would make more sense to activate downtown Manhattan first.

I'm glad to see fellow NYers posting up and hyped that some of you guys are getting 4G connection! That's a clear indication that Sprint is already rolling out 4G in NYC and I can't wait till the majority of the city is covered.

As you can see I don't have internet at home through Sprint. The Wifi was off. Decided to swich carriers. Already called sprint today and asked them to waive my early cancellation fee. He said he will call me next Tuesday.
You sure you had Wifi off? It shows it as on in the screenshot.
But you can check and see if Network Vision is upgrading soon in your neighborhood.

Yes it was off. I turned it on and went back to the program to take the snapshot. Here is a pick with wifi on.
PS: I'm rocking your ICS theme in my Calk ROM btw. You are the man buddy.
I'm running ek02 ROM, desperado 1.3 ek02 kernel and ek02 modem. I'll flash el29 modem and see if I notice any difference.
I'll flash ek02 again and post the numbers.
Now I'm getting 200's to 450. There must be varying amounts of network traffic tonight. It's only 12:41am, so people are probably still awake and using the data network. You could try a different host like Naples. Sometimes speakeasy speedtest on a browser gives different numbers out of Atlanta. Wanna see a crazy ass screen shot with 4g that I think was a fluke?
Miami is a city being worked on now. You won't see improvements for another 2 to 3 months. The reason for all the decrease on speeds is due to the off loading sprint is doing right now

Your LTE experience may well improve after applying the LG8 update. It includes an important fix to the logic governing when the handset will connect and/or disconnect from an LTE tower. You and all the others trying to test LTE service in the newly "launched" LTE markets need to understand this. In several scattered but related threads in this forum, it is apparent that the commenters reporting their LTE experience are mostly ignorant.
Users in places such as San Antonio, Houston, DFW, Atlanta, etc. who are trying LTE with this phone have faced two problems:
The markets were officially "launched" July 15 with only a small fraction of their towers ready for LTE, although work continues on the build-out.
The new LTE handsets, including the GS3, needed OTA fixes to change the signal-strength threshold governing LTE connections. Without the fix, phones can only get or hold an LTE connection that is quite strong.
The second factor just multiplies the damage caused by the first.
I have tested my GS3 in a city that has its LTE network substantially built-out (Waco). Before applying the LG8 update, even where the LTE signal was very strong, the phone did not connect. After the update, I found LTE service all over town.
p.s. If you really want to understand and track the LTE rollout, go to S4GRU.com, which focuses on this matter exclusively and knowledgeably.

4g in LI is a secondary market, but I bet they are already starting to change to Network Vision. The whole Island will have 4G LTE by mid to late 2013. As soon as the NYC market is finished your area will get a LTE bath.
I saw on the S4GRU map that Queens and parts of Hempstead was already being worked on for Network Vision.
yeah ive been hoping those predictions are true... i work in queens and am in NYC often, but haven't had to much 1x experiences there yet...
hear NYC should be by the end of this year, so hopefully wont have too long of a wait...

So I have the S4 now and I've been complaining to T-Mobile about the poor download speeds in neighborhood in Brooklyn, NYC as if I live in the boondocks. I finally got a response from T-Mobile saying that oh well it looks like there isn't enough bandwidth in your area and there's nothing you can do. Which is ironic considering the slew of ads they have bashing AT&Ts bandwidth and bragging how great they are (BS). See attached for the wonderful LTE speeds I get. And it's all the time as you can see, not based on time and the network being clogged up. I work in midtown Manhattan where between 10AM and 6PM the network is barely useable to which they said "well a lot of people are probably on it".
I'm surprised they didn't tell me to move somewhere else.
Basically I'm getting tired of all the LTE posts I'm seeing on here

Next year would be the time to start pitching the complaints just because they said at the end of 2013 it should be completely implemented but I've been with Tmobile from the beginning and they have bent over backwards to make me happy.
LTE is still in the beginning phase of being introduced so yes some people will be lucky enough to have early use but pitching a fit because your not one of the few that have it this early on is useless.

Is Brooklyn even one of the officially supported areas? Or is LTE on but not officially?
Even since they started rolling out LTE in my area my 4g has gone to crap. I get mostly the same speed as the OP now when I used to get 8mbps prior to LTE roll out. It happened at home and now its happening at my work. I really hate it cause inside my work I dont get LTE and just get 4g. And at home I get LTE a block a way but no LTE where my house is so I'm stuck with the new slower 4g.
Man. Those speeds you posted were faster than I usually used to get with Sprint. In the Chicago area, my last three T-Mobile tests are:
5644 kbps / 1590 kbps
7183 kbps / 1074 kbps
8036 kbps / 6006 kbps (LTE in moving train)
14983 kbps / 12024 kbps (LTE stable)
Not bad.

You're getting low pings (66ms) and over 1Mbps, which is plenty for a mobile device IMO.
Did you try and change your apn to fast.tmobile.com? I had slow speed too then changed my apn now its back to good speeds

Same here the 4G used to be great and where I live if I go over a couple blocks it'll switch to LTE but my house is 4G with terrible speeds where I used to get 5-6mb. At my job in Manhattan I get LTE and the speeds are great (10mb+) until like 9AM when it goes down to 2-3mb but it gets to the point I can't even stream a YouTube video.

That test was at my job where I have no WiFi. The test was a previous test about a week ago. The Wi-Fi you see enabled is because I took a screenshot while at home this morning. The test is done on LTE if you look at the network type listed.

I have the HTC One on AT&T and SGS4 on TMO. I've found outside of AT&T's LTE area TMO being faster, but not always. AT&T seems more consistant everywhere I go, TMO, there's either drop to edte, no service, or killler speeds. I have not hate to either carriers, nor a fanboi of any of them nor any device.
Long story on why I have both, basically had to do with credits owned me on TMO and sales of older devices I had right out.

I don't think you get the point I was making, I could see being mad if LTE was out for a few years and your being told you should have it on Tmobile but it's just starting literally. This has nothing to do with att and their coverage but I've had att and Verizon in the past and no Cell carrier can promise perfect coverage.
