Latest update, prl, and profile update? This is probably dumb question though. I can actually see the tower I'm connecting to. Last I heard, San Antonio is only about 25% complete.
Edit: I also disabled automatic connections under mobile networks. Not sure that has anything to do with it though.

Have you applied the latest OTA update (v L710VPLG8) to your phone? This update contains an important fix to optimize LTE connectivity.

I'm over by Alamo Heights with spotty connection and get randomly throughout town
Sent from my Galaxy S III baby!

At school at itt-tech, I get some pretty *****in' speeds. A solid 28kbps down and like 9-ish kbps up.

Not in San Antonio but in KC last night ran a speed test using the hotspot and my laptop got 23+ Mbps down just over 1 Mbps up heck roadrunner can only do 5Mbps down and 1 Mbps up, not sure how loaded network is here.

Just updated Prl...no lte at work (Westover hills)..but I hope I get it at home tonight. Will post speeds..hopefully!

I'll ask again: Have you applied the latest OTA update (v L710VPLG8) to your phone?

I'm at San Pedro and 410, but the phone automatically connects to my home Wifi. I drive around town all day long and so far, compared to the Evo 3d I used to have, the speeds are ****ing great.

Your LTE experience may well improve after applying the LG8 update. It includes an important fix to the logic governing when the handset will connect and/or disconnect from an LTE tower. You and all the others trying to test LTE service in the newly "launched" LTE markets need to understand this. In several scattered but related threads in this forum, it is apparent that the commenters reporting their LTE experience are mostly ignorant.
Users in places such as San Antonio, Houston, DFW, Atlanta, etc. who are trying LTE with this phone have faced two problems:
The markets were officially "launched" July 15 with only a small fraction of their towers ready for LTE, although work continues on the build-out.
The new LTE handsets, including the GS3, needed OTA fixes to change the signal-strength threshold governing LTE connections. Without the fix, phones can only get or hold an LTE connection that is quite strong.
The second factor just multiplies the damage caused by the first.
I have tested my GS3 in a city that has its LTE network substantially built-out (Waco). Before applying the LG8 update, even where the LTE signal was very strong, the phone did not connect. After the update, I found LTE service all over town.
p.s. If you really want to understand and track the LTE rollout, go to S4GRU.com, which focuses on this matter exclusively and knowledgeably.

I hate you lol hows the connection strength? Like does it disconnect alot?
How does lte work? Is it like wimax, based off of a wifi sort of function? Or is it a stable connection like 3g?

Lol, the connection strength isn't too shaby... It does disconnect often but that is because number one, the coverage is still somewhat spotty and two this phone has that "best connection" thing where it automatically picks the best coverage spectrum. So when i'm at home it always wants to pick my wifi since it's the strongest signal... the pic was actually taken while driving which was even more impressive... i wish there was a way to manually enable LTE like Wimax because sometimes you're in an area where u know there is 4g coverage cuz u got it b4 but the phone may not be scanning when u happen to drive thru that area. But once it is more widely deployed it will be like 3g where u can get it everywhere and provide a stable connection.
4rth said:

LTE is the next step 4th generation in wireless radio data transmission(although none of the carriers are actually providing true 4g speeds yet, the capacity is there)... unlike wimax it doesn't have a completely separate antenna that has to be manually switched on and off... its a different radio frequency but runs off of the same antenna as your standard 3g if im not mistaken... eHRPD tells the phone when to switch from 3g(CDMA) to LTE... as stated above once the deployment is widespread it will be a stable connection just like 3g... but thats years at minimum b4 we see that kind of coverage...

Don't waste your time moving lol. I live in Atlanta and its so spotty we might as well not have it. I don't get it at home or work. A few spots as you drive come on but what good is that? Quite disappointing really. However when i did get it and stopped, i got a 35meg test speed.
In Joliet, IN for business and I'm getting between 17 and 20 down and 4 to 6 up. Not bad considering I'm not getting anything in North Dallas where I live even though the Sprint Coverage map has me completely covered in LTE.....Sprint Coverage map sucks to be honest.
I have yet to see 4g LTE in my status bar and I live in SF area. Is there a toggle bar somewhere or in the settings area? I'm using blazer ROM
Thanks

4g in LI is a secondary market, but I bet they are already starting to change to Network Vision. The whole Island will have 4G LTE by mid to late 2013. As soon as the NYC market is finished your area will get a LTE bath.
I saw on the S4GRU map that Queens and parts of Hempstead was already being worked on for Network Vision.
yeah ive been hoping those predictions are true... i work in queens and am in NYC often, but haven't had to much 1x experiences there yet...
hear NYC should be by the end of this year, so hopefully wont have too long of a wait...

I'm trying to gather a little information in regards to mobile data speeds specifically within the NYC area. A few questions if you may kindly respond to get the discussion rolling.
What modem/baseband/radio are you currently using?
What rom are you currently using?
How are your data speeds while on mobile data with said modem/baseband/radio?
Have you flashed any scripts/tweaks or use any apps to assist with your mobile data speeds?
With regards to location, where do you use mobile data the most? (post one of the 5 boroughs)

I believe putting speeds, instead of "****" would help make this survey more accurate in terms of logistics. Haha

LJ7 Leaked ROM
Can easily pull down well over 2 Mb/s in downtown Manhattan (Battery Park) late at night, and around 1.7 Mb/s average. Can also pull down around 2 Mb/s in Nassau county, LI on average. Where I live in Queens, 400 Kb/s average.
No tweaks or scripts of any kind. Personally don't believe they work.
I travel from Queens to Manhattan at least once a week, and have noticed that speeds in NYC seem to depend on network load. I generally get much better speeds late at night.

My data is horrible recently!

At home my data is usually always 7mbps-15mbps.. This past week it's been horrible at home. At about 40kbps...
At work and everywhere else it's fine, but once I get home it's horrible! Even 2 miles away from my house, it's fine.
I called tmobile and they filed a ticket to look into the tower but could take up to 10 days.
Anyone have any ideas?

Depending on where u live ur tower by ur house can be old and not updated so it slower or it can be a borrowed tower. The one by ur job must be in a city which they update first. For me the new lte modem sucks I went back to the old modem. It is more reliable.

Also, it's not like I'm underground or hidden from the outside world, I'm sitting right next to a window in a 6 story building. I've honestly had enough of t-mobile.. they always mess up my contract and have such ****ty speeds in my area. Not to mention, they directly lie to you over the phone and barely keep any promises. Yes a big difference. I mostly use WiFi tho when out cause I have WiFi hot spots every place by me. But the lte modem is use less by me till lte is around here.
Use the old apn if you're having issues. There's already a thread on this. Search for it.
I have a feeling the new apn is speed limited so when lte fully rolls out the hspa network isn't overloaded. Most people don't notice a difference between 8mbps and 11mbps. Which was my difference. But if your difference is between 3-5mbps and 55kbps then it's probably a tower issue as well.

I would totally care but sprint doesn't seem to care about the Denver area. Theres wimax in like a 10 block radius and promises for years we'd get more.... Now they're switching to lte and more promises but for the last 3 years its always been their sucky 3g

Same here in Salt Lake. Sucky/spotty 4g. No LTE in sight.
But at least I'm paying for someone to have lte. Cuz it sure ain't me.

Phoenix is the same way. Promises after promises. Now it doesn't look like we get even basic 4g for years yet. Stuck with 3g on the maybe eventually network.

VA area near TN, Pretty good 4g with a chance of LTE every now and again.
Hate to say it but I do miss Verizon service.

You can manually write whatever PRL you want with DFS CDMA Tool & a PC, regardless of which ROM you're on.

you have a link for that program? Would be pretty cool I'd we had someone fix the CDMA tools app or make us an easy "one click" sprint prl/profile updater.. If there is one already phase forgive the noobness....

To be able to connect to DFS you need to have DIAG mode enabled, and its only available in Stock roms and ASOP

I was in SLC last month and had solid 4g in the neighborhood above the capitol. Didn't go too far from there so I can't speak to other areas.
I've literally traveled all over America due to being in a touring metal band, and I can honestly say that 1. Sprint's service ****ing SUCKS ****. And 2. 4G LTE is extremely spotty. Luckily at home here in Baltimore I have 4G all over, but anywhere other than the east coast, you're lucky to get LTE. I had great service when I was in Denver earlier this summer, but no 4G whatsoever if I recall correctly (And I don't, because Colorado is a... "Medical" state. )

You must have been in the 20 ft circle of 4g coverage.

I lol'ed at the your description of how Sprint's service sucks...especially since I generally agree. But down here in Dallas, I get pretty great LTE coverage. I think because we were one of the first markets to launch LTE. In some places in town I get 30MB+ download speed so I cant complain. But in the outskirts of town and suburbs...it isnt nearly that good but I'll still usually be able to connect to LTE.

I've got to take care of a couple things this morning, but when I'm done (probably about 2 hours) I'll post a full write-up.

I flashed a stock rom to get the updated PRL. Looks good. What's different about it?
Also, I get pretty decent 4G coverage in Houston, Texas with Sprint, even out to the suburbs on the north side. It's not nearly as fast as the service I had with verizon, though, but it is at least consistent.
Once you get past the city limits on the east or south, though, both 3G and 4G get iffy.
I have awsome Sprint Airave coverage at home.
I hope someone makes a app like RoamControl that works with our Optimus G so my phone will work outside of my house.
