What do u mean by flash?... If u ment the little led light on the power button that depends on the rom you want to flash... Most gb roms if not all support that feature... Don't know about ics roms.

Make sure the custom roms support CDMA otherwise your sol. It wont matter if you flash a custom rom because you will lose your phone service anyways. Depending on your custom rom of choice prior to installation most custom roms only support GSM carriers not CDMA.

Haha my bad...

its cool but i still need my problem answered

The answer is yes. But to sav that u only need to backup ur data via clockworkmod. After the backup u can restore ur data back into ur new rom. But since u're on GB that data u backed up earlier won't work on ics/jb. So the best option is to sav ur carier apn & all onto a paper so u can re-enter it manually. I think thats it.

Q about wifi calling

Hey I'm switching from an infuse w att to an s2 on T-Mobile tonight.
I'm excited for a new toy and all but mostly BC of the wifi calling. I read somewhere earlier this phone does not have wifi calling? I'm kind of confused. Its not a Problem if I have to root and install a rom to get it to work I just need to know. Thanks!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
It supports wifi calling as of the latest ota update. It works great.
2.3.5 does not have WiFi calling
2.3.6 does.
Just flash a ROM if you are stuck at 2.3.5.

sick. I click update and it says no firmware. I just got this phone two hours ago. Does this only update via kies?
And...now for the direction of roms and all...coming from an infuse, I have no idea where to start beyond doing the root with odin as stated in the big root thread. I'm used to putting the rom on the card and flashing. nothing else. Never added kernels and such. I'd like the best battery life and to keep my wifi as good as possible (Ive heard some rome stop the wifi calling and all)
Yeah the thing that sucks is you have to wait till the firmware is pushed to your phone.
Odin is only used to flash the recovery and kernels.
After flashing the recovery, you can put ROMs on the SD card like normal and flash it.

hmmm kies said I could update it through there...so the phone is on the charger now before i start.
I havent rooted yet bc I wanted to get the 2.3.6 to make sure wifi calling works. I'll update, then root...oh...the HOW TO ROOT section has whatever PDA in it to use, will that work with 2.3.6?
Glad i remembered to ask that now lol
Ohhh and the UNROOT newer "easy" link doesn't work. says to tell an admin...not sure about that.
u also need the newest simcard for the wifi calling to work as well

yes when you flash the recover in odin you select it under pda and let it finish and reboot.. the oneclick rooting method doesnt work with the new 2.3.6.. also not sure which easy unroot method youre talking about but if its the zedomax rom i suggest staying away from it because others have reported that after flashing it the phone was no longer recognize by the computer or odin best way to go back to stock is to flash the stock 2.3.6 md5 with odin found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350360.. yep u can still use the same files in the how to thread the clockwork recovery and superuser might be older versions i think but you can update the clockwork recovery with rom manager just make sure you choose the 1 that says samsung t-mobile galaxy s2 and can update the superuser in the market.. oh and when you first flash the su file in recover it might not stick the first time but dont worry just keep flashing it til it completes some ppl have said it sticks even if it doesnt complete but i just keep flashing til it did ive gotten it to finish on the second or third time whenever it didnt stick the first try

Whoever said odin is just used to flash recovery's and kernels doesn't know what they are talking about. I would say use odin to do the 2.3.6 update because it will update ALL of your firmware and not just the rom.

[Q] sony noob. feel stupid...

ok guys i just picked up a play for att. sucks cause i have tmobile and wont get the 3/4g data. im almost always in wifi spots anyway so no big deal.
anyway i have already called att and got the phone sim unlocked. now if i think i understand this correctly this should be the order to follow. if you guys can confirm and provide latest links i would appreciate greatly.
1. sim unlock (done)
2. unlock bootloader (not yet)
3. root (not yet)
4. load rom (not yet)
correct??? did i miss anything? any preferred method on any of these? please advise.
thanks!!!
First of all, if you bought a xperia PLAY, you should probably post in the xperia PLAY forums.
Second of all, questions go in the Q & A forum.
To answer your question, that's pretty much the right order.

For img flash you can use flashtool.
You don't need root or anything to use flashtool on your phone.
Just pick correct .ftf for your phone and flash it to the phone.

If you were rooted before you don't need to re-root unless you purposely unrooted it. IF you aren't rooted anymore superoneclick or the zergrush(however it's spelled) is the easiest. I'm 99% sure you don't have an unlocked bootloader though, so you have very few options. I'd say re-root if you need to and unlock your bootloader so you can flash flash and flash custom roms like crazy

You need to pay Setool credits in order to unlock the bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader allows you to lose the sin lock as well, so you could have killed two birds with the same stone.

ya i just found the website. seems like thats the one everyone is sent to on this site.
im wondering now that im rooted if i can clean this stock rom up enough to use on a daily basis. i mean im using tmobile on the device so sharing internet would only be edge lol. i guess the only thing i really want ics for is that fact that its ics.
open the dial pad and use this code*#*#7378423#*#* . Then go to -> "Service Info" -> "Configuration".
If it says unlock bootloader = no, then you have to use the paid service, if yes, then you can do it for free yourself.

[Q] If I flashed GT-N7100 ROM, how can I get back?

First, I'm an idiot,,,got new to android,,had no idea about flashing,, so I just randomly picked a Rom, and turned out its a GT-N7100 ROM, now my phone has no signal at all,,, anyone know how to flash back ? or I have to wait a att ROM come out?
BTW, Im with Rogers.
Thanks:laugh:
your gonna have to wait till either someone makes a odin back with a stock rom or makes a stock rom you can flash via recovery.
EDIT: did you make a backup?
this reminds me of the following youtube video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwleOote5M0
Can you give a link to the firmware you flashed? It'd be useful to know if it contained a modem and/or kernel (or not.)
If it contained a modem, you'll need another modem. If it contained a kernel, you'll need another kernel. We have those. Regardless, you'll need to talk someone into getting you a system image (someone that has the same phone as you and has already rooted.)
Also, do you have CWM recovery installed? Is the existing firmware (as trashed as it might be) rooted? Can you use adb?
im an idiot

I know you won't be happy with this, but until an ODIN image shows up, you're kind of out of luck. If someone you know has the same phone, you could ask them to do a backup to an external memory card, and then you restore that backup to your device. Assuming the modem wasn't flashed when you installed, that would get you back into business. If a modem was flashed, you'll need to get someone to extract a modem (and I'm not sure how to go about doing that.)

Does your phone work now, with the exception of connecting to the mobile network?
Are you familiar with adb? If so, are you able to get a shell via adb?
When you plug your phone into your computer, are you able to copy files to/from the phone?
Which custom recovery do you have installed? CWM recovery or TWRP?
Is your phone rooted? (it probably is with a custom firmware - assuming the phone works at all.)

i rooted my phone through this:

I updated that post. Basically, I can't think of anything you can do right now.. until an ODIN dump is available - or if someone gets you a backup you can restore. However, a backup won't flash the proper modem (and it appears you also overwrote the modem.)

Perhaps - perhaps not. Until one actually flashes from the other, we don't know. (Many will tell you that they've done it with a different phone model - my answer to that is simply that it was a different phone model. Until its tried with THIS one, we can only guess.)
I think the biggest stumbling block for you right now is the modem. We have a stock kernel and recovery. A "near" stock system partition image can also be made from another device with a simple command. I have to be honest, though, that I have no clue how to extract the modem from these LTE phones.
A recovery (and kernel) can easily be flashed with ODIN (or with dd from a rooted shell.) Same for the system partition (which is, basically, the OS.) Getting a system image might be annoying, as you'd need to find someone with a roger's phone to make it for you, upload it, etc.
The modem, however... I'm not sure how to go about getting that for you. I've never had to create a modem image...
If/when a ODIN package appears, you can use a program that will, basically, reflash your entire phone to stock. Modem, kernel, recovery, bootloader, etc. Everything. Normally, users wouldn't see those ODIN packages, but there are a couple of websites that have access to some samsung servers where they a put. Once they are put there, we can get it...
Take care

Looking forward to this remedy as this is the reason I am jumping from att Galaxy S 3 to the note2. Want my international dev community back!
Unfortunately so far down here in Southern Florida Miami beach there is no white Note 2 anywhere.
For those that have the ATT version of the Note 2, if you've mistakenly flashed the ROM, I highly suggest visiting your nearest AT&T Device Support Center. Since I've previously worked in those centers, they have a propietary Samsung flashing tool that allows them to flash to the stock ROM, even if it's rooted. Granted they'll be able to tell if you've rooted it or not (which may or may not void the warranty, depending on who you talk to), as long as the phone can turn on and go to firmware recovery mode, the flashing works almost 100% of the time and it's a free service.
However, as I got my Note 2 yesterday, I've contacted my nearest DSC and they said that they don't have the ability to flash the Note 2 yet and they may have that ability to do so in the next few weeks or possibly by the end of the year (if you can wait that long). Being that the associates are just corporate drones, if they can't fix it, they'll more than likely replace your phone under warranty (which I don't suggest since the replacements are refurbished, and besides you should be within the 14 day return period for a new phone).
Sorry if it doesn't help the ones who have the Rogers versions.

I believe you can get away flashing an ATT rom and radio because I also have a t889 and even though its not unlocked, I can still run an ATT rom (specifically the cm10 port for the att variant) on it with no problem, of course, I did flash the tmo radio and I believe that you don't need to adjust your APN settings cuz I didn't have to. You might wanna have those settings handy just in case...
I do have them handy the tmo radio i dont however if i do flash a at&t rom i just wanna be safe with the modem and well radio so i can have all my call setting safe

How can I get LiDroid Toggles on stock ROOTED?

So basically I had LiDroid Toggles when I was using a ROM. I really miss how I can change the toggles on top when I slide down.
I have a stock recovery, I guess I can get TWRP, can I just flash the file even though im not on a stock ROM? I don't think I can brick my phone right since im flashing through recovery? ugh some please shed some light thanks.
You likely wont hard brick....but if the files you want to flash do not state "compatible" with the rom you are running, then the chance of a software brick is quite high...
you may want to use a rom suitable for those particular mods ??
I dont second guess developers any more, as it has cost me dearly in the past.
If Scott says it's a go, then go for it...but if his extensive thread info does not include the ability...then avoid it like the plague...
