CWM troubles

long story short i had to flash a ftf file to my r800at, so i used this ftf file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255095) and i got everything set up (data) and i rooted it with superone click and downloaded and installed the CWM auto installer and i can NOT for the life of me boot into the recovery to backup to the nandroid file i have (backed up before i had to install the ftf file)
any ideas?

I think you need unlocked bootloader.
But im pretty new, so wait for smarter people.

Turn off your device, hold search button and connect the cable, should glow blue.

you can install CWM from the app found in the market for the play. you dpnt need an unlocked bootloader.
i have a locked bootloader and i have the rom i mentioned above installed and the cwm it just wont boot into it now matter how many times i try (reboot and tap down volume button on SE screen)

I just read more, learning more every minute, Try holding volume down from the start of the boot.
Try waiting till you see the words Sony Ericsson. (then press repeatedly) Thats what the sticky says. If not maybe its not there for some reason.

tried both, no luck, hope someone can help me get into CWM

thinks for trying to help. im learning this device too. doesnt seem to be a lot of r800at users on this forum.
this device is so different from what im used to. if all else fails ill just set up all my apps and stuff on this rom, it is nice having a non ATT branded rom.

Ill be in your same boat in a couple days. Ordered an r800AT, just waiting for it to arrive, Its AT&T Branded, But i'll def be switching to a custom rom.

welcome to the xperia play forum, your gonna love the device. i cant put mine down, between MC3 and the emulators...its a great device

I don't think you're supposed to hold down the volume button, but rather press it rapidly from boot until the recovery pops up

I've wanted it since it came out. xD Im not using mine on AT&T though, going to use Straight Talk, But the A/AT is the only one with HSDPA 850/1900 for my region and a sim slot. xD
Cant wait to play everything this phone has to offer.

youll need to unlock it then, not sure if sim unlock unlocks the boot loader or not. someone else will have to answer that for you.
but if you get the boot loader unlocked, you will have more options as to what roms you can install

Did you ever find a solution? I'm in the same boat as you,well probably worse seeing as how my phone is an expensive paperweight stuck on the SE logo. I've tapped every button on this phone and can't get it into recovery.

[Q] Unlock/Root/Flash prototype Arc?

OK so we got a SE Experia Arc S LT18i with 1253-8238_4.0.1.A.0.165 ('prototype' model on loan from a friend = prehistoric!) and looking into upgrading the thing if at all possible.
So if I am correct it's a case of: 1st: Root, 2nd: Unlock bootloader, 3rd: Install recovery, 4th: Flash ROM of choice
Bootloader is locked and phone not rooted.
Tried using Flashtool to root phone but it is greyed out so tried Tools > Root > Force zergRush = fail, (not tried Force psneuter/Emulator ?)
Tried unlocking bootloader using Flashtool, but this also failed (SE unlock website wanted IMEI code one digit less than the phone reports?!! got a code by ditching the first 0 of the IMEI, but didn't work anyway - crashed phone)
Attempted to root using command line ADB method to push zergRush and execute the script, but this too doesn't work (phone crashes and reboots).
Fastboot? I have it installed but not yet come across any how-to's that use this (did I say yet? )
The apps available on Play Store seem to be automations of above methods for one-click users.
Further exhaustive reading/searching here and on talk.sonymobile.com leads me to believe that the first step might be to flash a different kernel version before it's possible to root, after which everything else should fall into place...I'm up for trying this but of course don't want to risk bricking the phone, so backing up first would be a good plan, *but* I need root to be able to install recovery! I know enough about booting operating systems to know that changing kernel version with a locked boot loader might just result in bork! This is where the expertise of you guys comes in!! Maybe you know that flashing another (similar?) kernel will be fine with Fashtool even without unlocking bootloader and rooting phone? Perhaps I missed a simple and easy way of rooting? Any suggestions very welcome - thanks in advance!
FYI: *I only run Linux* so pointing me at any of the windows tools on offer is of no help to me
Oh and PS: yes I have searched and found a ton of helpful info, well actually *way too much* info to the point of saturation and confusion!! :laugh:

Well it's not the quantity of info, but the quality of info! Failing that the filtration system used to distill the good stuff out!
Anyroads, I was still hoping for someone to chip in with something like "Yeah go for it, that will work fine"! or "Don't do it, try this instead"!
I'm believing from my readings so far, that short of flashing an incorrect radio, or interrupting a flash process, it isn't easily possible to brick an Arc?

I would have just tried it instead of starting a thread to ask, failing that I would have then read the stickys/guides explaining how to unlock and root.

No, you would just use the flashtool to flash a stock ROM.

Please can someone advise or point me in the right direction to lock my boot loader. Unroot and flash back to stock please.

I hope you have a backup of the TA partition. Otherwise it's impossible to relock the bootloader

You loose a few features like mirror link...

Yes you can flash the ftf directly, and here's what you'll get:
A stock ROM
unrooted
Lose some features related to DRM keys
No OTA
Stock recovery, which is none as far as i know
This is as close as you'll get to making your device feel locked.

Hmmm you're right, one can still relock the bootloader, but the TA partition along with the drm keys will still be missing, which will render the relocking kinda useless.
Better said, I don't understand the reason behind relocking if you're not getting the things you lost back.

I am guessing that OP wants to return his phone. If he is lucky, they will simply check the rooting status in the service menu and not if DRM keys exist.

If I do Relock the BL will it grant the device OTA updates or is that again TA/DRM reliant?
I just sold the phone on eBay for £200 so want to get it back to stock before I send it out tomorrow.
(Awaiting receipt of a pre ordered Z3c... there had been a significant price drop from £450 down to £350... So £150 for an upgrade seemed fair. )

You should get OTA updates if you relock bootloader. I've never tried but at least Sony PC Companian does not complain anymore about a modified device. I hope you informed the buyer that the device was actually unlocked though.

Yes the buyer is aware of the phone being previously rooted.
Is it normal for Sony stock ftf rom to have empty APN settings.... if I remember correctly this was also the case when I originally purchased the phone.

Are they aware the bootloader has been unlocked so might not be able to do what they might be buying it for.

the APN settings get generated depending on the current service provider (currently inserted SIM card). Even then it might be the case that there are no pre-registered APN settings for that provider.
I wouldn't worry about it much
Oh and do inform us once you sell it, and get your new toy

Does this work on the VZW varient without an unlocked boot loader. Nobody has posted a working bootloader unlock for the VZW z2 tab SGP 561 so i can't load anything that installs or uses a kernel other than factory.
Ofcourse is someone has a working bootloader unlock method im open to that too.

I'm in the same boat muchlove. Damn. Anybody with Verizon connections out there? Put in a call for us poor bastards? I would unlock it but I'm paranoid that because it's a VZW device, the typical unlock either won't work or worse brick it. I know these things are pretty brick-proof - or at least can be un-bricked but still...I'd rather follow the instructions of somebody who's been through it on this VZW Z2. I just cannot wait to have a remote 10.1 monitor to my PS4. Every day seems like a week.

[SOLVED] I followed this thread to get everything updated and make sure I was all stock, and then went to bootloader and ran fastboot flashing lock to relock the bootloader. Everything working great now.
I'm trading my Verizon Pixel XL for a normal Pixel, and need to relock the bootloader first. I haven't installed a custom kernal or ROMs or anything, so can I just lock via fastboot safely?
I don't want to do something that will brick it!
I'm aware this is stupid and I'd rather just leave it, but dude is sketched out by warning on startup and won't trade till it's gone :/

Yes if you are stock you can safely lock the bootloader.
run
fastboot flashing lock
phone will factory reset and appear frozen on that screen 30seconds or so.
