[UPDATE: SALE IS OVER]
Verizon Wireless is offering the Galaxy Nexus, refurbed with a one-year warranty, for $230, without a contract.
Edit: Added link. (Thank you, blahb)
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...t&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5862
Update: As of Thursday, Oct. 25 the price listed on the Verizon site has risen to $450. I hope at least a few people were able to get one at the $230 price.

They must really want this out of stock.
-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-
Yep. Also read yesterday that Bell issued an "end of life" memo for Galaxy Nexus, meaning all remaining stock will be sold off.
Thats a pretty sweet deal.. I wonder how the quality of them are?
Great Deal
Just about to share this as well.
Galaxy Nexus by Samsung (Certified Pre-Owned)

A sweet phone for $229 off contract straight from Verizon, would assume you get the one year warranty through VZW as well. Would recommend to anyone who is waiting for a contract to expire with a broken device or wants to keep their unlimited LTE data plan. Will be looking for similar deals in the future on other devices to keep my unlimited LTE.

I've gotten certified pre-owned's on both the HTC Droid Incredible and HTC Thunderbolt due to power buttons going out before 1 year warranties expired and both were in new condition cosmetically. As I mentioned above I think VZW would have to honor the one year warranty as well. If they run out of stock I believe their policy is to give you a device of similar quality as a replacement (certified pre-owned as well). Gonna look into this because I've got one off eBay and I'd love to have a 1 year warranty replacement through Verizon. If they sell out stock, I wonder if the warranty replacement would be an S3?
Wow good deal. Should I get this or the LG Nexus? S3 is too big and I have small hands. Worried the LG might be too big compared to current nexus

As long as you're aware that the VZW GNex's will only work on Verizon. As I understand it, the LG Nexus will be GSM.

If you are getting discounted pricing on an upgrade I wouldn't waste it on the Galaxy Nexus. I love mine but this is a great deal for those that want to keep their unlimited LTE plans while upgrading their phone. I eBayed my Thunderbolt early this year and got $190 for it. You might be able to get over a $100 for your Thunderbolt on eBay and get the Galaxy Nexus for now to hold you over till some of the newer phones come out that fit your needs.
IMO the S3, Galaxy Nexus, LG Nexus will all be about the same size in hand. If your looking for something smaller the HTC Droid Inc 4G would be a good option with the S4 proc in it but think their is very limited dev support on it. I'd probably hold out for a while if you don't like current lineup of phones.
Don't know your situation but if I were you I'd sell my Thunderbolt on ebay, buy the Galaxy Nexus month to month for $229 (keeping your same plan) and see how you like the size. I thought it'd be to big but if you can use this phone comfortably the S3 and LG Nexus shouldn't be an issue. Their is a HUGE upgrade in user experience from the Thunderbolt to the Galaxy Nexus IMO.
Good Luck!

Oh yeah good point, I was assuming mordakk would be using Verizon service so the GSM option wouldn't be an option. I'm also still hoping Verizon will get a CDMA variant of the LG Nexus as they did the Galaxy Nexus.

The warranty will be most likely only be 90 days for a pre-owned phone. It's not really Verizon that decides that, it's Samsung itself. But this is still a great deal, and there are a few people I'll be sharing this with!

No doubt about it being a great deal. It also appears it is the 32GB version vs. the 16GB new version.
Yeah, I wasn't sure about the 1 year warranty thing on pre-owned. I just know I've had to use the 1 year that used to come with new devices in the past on HTC phones but haven't kept up variances in their warranty policy.
I decided to ask them on live chat about that and I was told a 1 year warranty. You guys can try to verify, hopefully it's correct.
Correct on the 1 year warranty.

Think I may go for this deal. If I get a hardware issue in the next year they will have to replace it with a "comparable unit" whatever that could be. Probably better stats than GN
Sounds like if you "break it" in the next 6 months you could get a GS3.

That would be nice, but they only state a "comparable" unit. And the warranty is good for a year. Still a very interesting offer, and a really smart business move on Verizon's part, to lure new users.

Got mine on the deal listed above. The 32gb version. Website wasn't set up to all for continuation of unlimited data plan, so I called and they talked me through it.
Device seems like new to me. Not a single blemish anywhere.
I asked for and got the customer service folk to let me use my last $50 NE2 credit AND keep the unlimited data plan. He claims it's because I am a 10 year Verizon customer, but ymmv.
Quite happy with the device so far, and the development community and activity is mind blowing. That's why I got the geek phone!

Looks like Samsung's Galaxy Nexus will be only $199 on contract at Verizon, unlike many other 4G LTE devices at launch.
Anyone more excited?
Verizon is real lucky on this one , people have been buying the phone for $600+ meanwhile they should have just waited to recieve one for $199 , it's worth the wait people now alot of people have learned their lesson .

What? People have been buying the HSPA+ one. This is the LTE for Verizon. And you have to sign a 2year contract to get it for $199... Nobody that bought the phone unlocked was waiting to buy this one. You can't even buy the LTE phone anywhere right now.

booooooo. and i don't think anybody has bought an lte version for version because it hasn't gone on sale yet.
Typically, you pay 500-600 for a no contract phone. So Assume you pay 220 (w tax) for your 2 yr contract phone. THe No Contract per month cost is average 20 a month cheaper So,
20 x 12 = 240 x 2 =480.00 for 2 year contact phone added cost or 700.00 total cost.........
Pay the cost now or over time about the same...... but no contract does no leave you bound by the the Carriers whims...
I prefer to have the phone paid for now and be free rather than paying over time and indenturement

Sure, LTE is better but the speeds you mentioned isn't really impressive for LTE.
Also, the 1 mbps you mention is not a problem of the phone. On a decent network you will get very nice speeds on HSPA+ too. With that said I wouldn't mind if there was a GSM/HSPA/LTE version for the LTE network in Sweden. CDMA2000 is and always has been crap though.
I'm buying it off-contract, so this means nothing to me.

That's a good price. Kudos to VZN for at least trying.
It sounds like a good deal on the surface, but....
1. If you travel overseas, the phone will not work internationally since CDMA coverage is very limited, maybe in Japan. GSM is the world standard.
2. TMO 4G, or 3G+, has good coverage of the major markets in the US. Right now, I pay $60, after taxes, per line per month with corporate discount on TMO. For the same unlimted voice/text/2GB data, I would pay $100, after taxes with corporate discount, per line per month with VZW.
Even if I got the phone free from VZW, I would end paying $960, which is much more than the $730 I paid to buy from Expansys.

Anybody else here STILL think its a ripoff paying a little more outright at BEST BUY for a brand new phone with their $10/mo protection plans with no questions asked, NO deductible, Unlimited replacements (within 2 week periods)???
Sprint can stick it.
Best buy protection is the best service I have ever had. Always got a replacement, for water damage, smashed screen, stolen, bricked, they even offer loaner phones until your replacement comes in.
This is the reason I never have an intrusive screen protector on, or sport a bulky ugly case that can never slide out of your pocket just right.
It doesn't cover stolen or lost but I have to agree it is one of the better ones, I have it myself. I paid for it for 2 years up front

I have worked for a Sprint Retailer for over a year now and still this the TEP is a bit off.
If your prone to normal wear and tear and cracked screens Best Buy's is much better. If your prone to losing it constantly, (no more than 3 times in 12 months however) then TEP works.
It's just another way to make a few bucks. What's horrible is without the TEP insurance, if a speaker blows or something your looking at $35 for repair
My only question is...will this count as a material change in T&C for our phone? I'm looking for an easy upgrade and have been waiting for Sprint to change the contract (they always do).

It won't count as the T&C hole applies to your wireless contract.
TEP is an add on so doesn't apply towards that.
(Already checked)
No questions asked doesn't exist at best buy. I bought a transformer prime from them. The prime has had a number of confirmed quality control issues and I had to exchange it twice until I got one that works. After the second exchange, they told me I wouldn't be able to return or exchange anything from them for 90 days, even if defective. I told them to keep the prime, got my money back, and haven't stepped foot in their stores since. I used to spend thousands of dollars a year there. No wonder they are going out of business.

Not true. They don't charge for warranty. If you want expedited warranty service, you have to pay the $35, otherwise it takes 1-2 weeks to get replaced. If you play your cards right, you can get the $35 fee waived.

Not false, sprint does not charge for warranty replacements. It would be illegal to do so. They provide a service for $35. If you object to the $35, they handle the warranty through the manufacturer which takes more time. However, if you threaten to cancel, they almost always waive the fee. This is probably just a case of you being an uninformed lower level employee.

I have always preferred best buy myself too. It seems that they are always willing to do what is right for the customer and I have never had any issues...
I read somewhere that someone had a bad experience. Don't let that experience ruin it for you... Could have been an employee with a hair up their ass that day and was taking it out on you... ALWAYS confirm things with another employee, customer, or even go to another store. I won't hesitate to drive to any of the three around here to confirm something or to grab something that wasn't in stock at the other store.... Worked for me so far! Otherwise, there's always the sprint store

I haven't had to use it but they just seemed way more pleasant to deal with than my local sprint store, and obviously like everyone else said the sprint plan is better if you're prone to losing/getting your phone stolen. Personally as long as best buy isn't going out of business and time soon I will buy my phone from and use best buy insurance. Just a personal preference.

Save your money. Equipment protection is a rip off. The phones have a one year warranty. Keep an old phone that you can port to for a couple of weeks while you send it out to the mfg if you can't afford the $35 for repair service. But if you pay 15/mo for 2 years + $100.00 deductible, you end up paying $460.00. Sounds like a huge waste of money to me when you can buy a new phone outright that is an older model for like $200.
Best buy protection used to be even better. I used it to pull off 2 upgrades with no cost to me. They have since changed it.
Before i took my evo in with a spider web for a screen. They sent it off, and a month later they said they were just going to give me a new phone. I got a gift card for $649 and they let me change phones.
Now, they only do rapid exchange with a referb. I had bby btp on everyone until this phone, because i got it in Amazon on black Friday for $.01.
And best buy does NOT cover lost or stolen, only sprint does.

Well, this puts me in a bind... I signed up with AT&T on Oct. 5th (just before they reduced the return time to 14 days). Was hoping it would get released on or before Nov. 5th so I could exchange my current phone (minus the $35 restocking fee). Would preordering still make me eligible for the $299 price as long as I returned my current phone before Nov. 5th? Sounds to me like I might have to go phoneless for those 4 days...
Best bet is to always call support or see a store rep for accurate answers. And extra friendly can go a long way with the reps who get yelled at all day.

Can't believe AT&T is slower to release than T-Mobile. I had always looked at AT&T as being the big dog on the block, but it appears otherwise now.
I know we want to beat up AT&T because we don't like to wait for our new toys, but d*** they are being slow, and releasing after the smaller providers is just crazy. I sure wished the international was LTE because I would pay the difference and never look back.

I know we want to beat up AT&T because we don't like to wait for our new toys, but d*** they are being slow, and releasing after the smaller providers is just crazy. I sure wished the international was LTE because I would pay the difference and never look back.
AT&T you s*** a** !!!!

Dude, take a breath. Att has almost 4 times the customers that TMO has. If they tried to rush it before they had enough stock etc you would flame them for that.
Big dog is right. They need a lot more phones and have more store etc. Perfectly happy to wait until the 9th with my SGSIII until I get my GNote 2!

I know T-Mobile is not going to have any accessories at launch. According to tmonews.com, and a leaked internal document that shows all of the accessories being sold for the Note II. The first accessories (Samsung branded included) are expected to arrive Nov. 7. It is my guess that AT&T could release the Note II the same time as Sprint and T-Mobile, but they don't want to release it without any accessories for fear of losing revenue by people seeking accessories elsewhere. Carriers count on revenue from accessories with an extremely high markup to make up for the big markdowns they take on phones, especially a phone as expensive as the Galaxy Note II. T-Mobile and Sprint have likely made a calculated decision to accept these losses in order to get a leg up on AT&T and Verizon. While people surely will not be moving in droves, it is likely to attract at least some impatient Verizon and AT&T customers to their networks and makes them look good for getting it first.
I've now gotten different answers from two reps on the Note II pre-order. Neither one knew the off-contract pricing, but one suggested that the Note II may not even be available for pre-order without a contract or upgrade. Any of you guys hear something similar? Is there any precedent on AT&T's part not allowing a new phone to be pre-ordered off-contract?
If I pre-order from At&T, will I have any trouble keeping my grandfathered "unlimited" data plan? If I do still go with the GNII, should I just take my chances with walking into a store on the 9th instead of pre-ordering?
I've received that answer from reps in the store before, (way back when I had my windows mobile phone in 2008); One of the smaller corporate stores refused to sell it to me out of contract. I said F them, and went to the flagship store in Houston, no problems checking out. I've never seen a restriction on off-contract phones, but then again, they are AT&T.

I pre ordered my SGSIII off contract without issues and there was tremendous demand for that phone. I doubt it will be an issue. I am sure this forum will be popping on Thursday with stories and tips. Can't wait!

FYI: Asurion Insurance company who handles Sprint Total Equipment Protection
As of now the LG optimus G is no longer being Stocked by Asurion. I had lost my phone and am going through the process to get it replaced through TEP. First Asurion technicians mess up my address so they try to recall the phone delivery. They send me out another phone. Long story short I receive two phones. A LG optimus g and an HTC EVO 4g. The lg optimus g has a soc lock on it (or lost and stolen flag) and is locked from being activated and the HTC EVO was sent because some genius seems to think that it is a comparable phone to the Optimus. The EVO is in noway comparable in price or specs! So after numerous calls to sprint and Asurion they still have not taken the soc lock off the phone after I was assured it would take 2-4 hours on the first call and then "up to 24 hrs" on another call and then this last call they now have to resubmit the ticket to unlock it and I have to wait some more. I'd like to believe I have a fair amount of technical knowledge since I am in the tech field but, correct me if i'm wrong it's just a tech behind a computer that needs to take the MEID# off the lost or stolen flagged list. I did manage to get a look at there ratings on there website before they changed them (I thought that was interesting when I saw quite a few other unhappy chumps like me) but this is not unusual. Coming from their website and from what the Sprint technician had told me it is happening more often.
Anyway lol, Asurion has only got in stock for the LGOG what they have left on their shelves and apparently they tried to deliberately stop me from receiving the one I had got. Just some FYI, If you have to have your phone replaced through TEP I would make sure they are going to send out an LGOG and if not make sure it is a comparable phone. I'm not bashing the EVO because that is the phone I had before I switched to the LGOG, it's almost a turtle compared to the optimus. They've got me so pissed right now I'm considering filing a complaint with the better business bureau. But sorry for the Vent of incoherent ramblings, I'm in a bit of a nerd rage right now lol.
What current sprint phones out there are comparable to the LGOG?

The EVO was great in its' heyday, but I totally agree with you. The EVO is not a comparable replacement to the LGOG. They could have, at least, sent you a GS3. That's total BS and I hope you make Asurion/Sprint's lives hell until you get it sorted out.

While I congratulate you on your speedy replacement, you are in a small group. I've dealt with Asurion a number of times both with my own and with my clients' devices, and while I've had the rare rapid recovery, I've since changed my tune after having them basically tell me to go to hell when my Evo needed replacing a few years back after it was knocked out of my hand and on to the concrete, and I complained that a month-long turnaround was unacceptable. And eventually it took them two months to replace them phone. In the meantime, I went and paid full price for an Epic, which I eventually replaced with my LGOG a couple of years later, and sold the Epic and Evo on craigslist.
Consumerist has an interesting workaround for the iPhone that makes me wonder if we could do the same the with our phones (assuming you have renters/homeowners insurance). Unfortunately, I haven't posted enough to post the link, but if you google consumerist electronics insurance, you should be able to find it on the first page of results.
I guess I'm quite lucky. I had to fork over $150 to get mines replaced after dropping it from my longboard. They processed the claim in a day and had another before 48hrs....I have heard some horror stories tho.

I have had several HTC phones on T-Mobile, my last one was the HTC One M8, which was easily unlocked through the HTC dev website to unlock the bootloader, which made it easy them to Root and more importantly install TWRP for ROM's.
Any word if this will still be the case through T-Mobile ?

its already in the HTC dev list. there is no "tmobile version" its the unlocked version which is 100% unlockable right on htc site, and currently able to do.

He is talking about the tmobile branded one you buy from the store. Tmobile has never blocked HTCdev in the past only Verizon has so I would say it is safe to assume that it can be. I would say that the same rules would apply as always that it will be probability be sim-locked that tmobile will give you the unlock code if you meet their requirements.
This is all because Samsung locked the bootloader for the S7/Edge. Everyone is all hurt and blame T-Mobile for it. T-Mobile is going as far to say if they can't get Samsung to unlock it they'll have people return their devices and get one that can be unlocked if the person chooses. That screams to me T-Mobile never locked it in the first place and devices will only be locked if the manufacturer locks it.

What is up with Tmobile US? Are they gonna release Htc 10 or not? I haven't heard anything or pre order yet, it's pissing me off.
Probably has to do with NDA and Verizon exclusively first carrier deal. Rumor is something is going to be announced tomorrow.

Just order the unlocked one and call it a day. Easier than waiting around for T-Mobile to release the phone. We know for sure the unlocked model has an unlockable bootloader. Why speculate?

The majority of people aren't gonna drop $750 up front so waiting for the T-Mobile version works out better. Or $650 with the $100 off from HTC.

Either way you're paying for the device so why not just buy it outright? I guess smaller monthly payments are easier to swallow, but it still doesn't change the price of the device. I imagine people will be up in arms about a locked down bootloader if T-Mobile does indeed lock it, but the fact remains they could have ordered an unlocked one from the start and called it a day.
If they don't like the device, they can always return it, or sell it outright without having to pay the device off on an upgrade program just to have it unlocked for another carrier. For the budget conscious it would make more financial sense to purchase an unlocked device for resale purposes.

You said it yourself, it's the exact same price no matter what so $20-$30 a month for a lot of people makes more sense than $750 up front. And in 6 months something new will be out and we can trade that phone in and get the new phone and T-Mobile pays the remainder of the balance off which will be maybe $550 left after 6 months. And you don't have to find a buyer, pay sales fees if you use eBay or Swappa and you don't have to turn in the charger or anything the phone comes with.

T-Mobile charges a hefty price to upgrade every few months. I had them at one point and used the Jump program a few times. Just wasn't worth the hassle when instill had to pay hundreds of dollars to bring the balance down to trade it in. Assuming that one will pay 25 bucks a month with no money down on a $650 device; 6 months later they have only paid $150 toward the price of the device. In order to upgrade you have to pay over 60% of the device's initial value. You're still coming out of pocket a few hundred dollars. In essence you lost money because you reset your time to pay for a new device and lost hundreds in the process.
I see the appeal, I truly do, but it's just not financially prudent to do that when you can own the device outright, sell it and recoup a good portion of your money in the process.
But that's not even the main point I was trying to make LOL. The main point is that buying an unlocked devices guarantees an unlockable bootloader. Waiting for the T-Mobile device does not. What will people do if the bootloader is locked down on T-Mobile? Not buy the device because it's too "expensive?" Or will they shell the money out like they probably should have done from the start?

I would have to disagree. With JOD, there is no fee and I can upgrade 3x/year... but something is wrong with that, because I have already upgraded more than 3 times LOL. I've been able to do like 5 jumps in the past 10 months. Not currently on a jump though as I bought a 6P outright.
I played with the HTC 10, G5, and S7 Edge in a Verizon store yesterday...
The 10 definitely felt and looked great. I loved the software. This camera should be the #1 camera out there... same sensor as the 6P but with OIS, laser AF, and f/1.8? Get the software together HTC! It'll be really hard getting used to the small screen though. The home button actually felt nice (it's recessed) and is capacitive, so luckily the 5.2" isn't hampered too much since no on-screen buttons are present. The speakers seemed tinny in the store... definitely needed more hands on time with it. Only concern is the potentially bad sunlight viewing, and the fact that it's LCD. I hate LCD compared to OLED. Camera app was decent but not great. Max shutter speed I believe was 2 seconds? Bummer. But with the large pixels and f/1.8 it might be killer for anything other than moonlight shots. I'm a big audio guy, sort of... I only use Google Music, but I have some expensive audio stuff. Earbuds are SE846, so I imagine the 10 would compliment them better than my 6P. The only thing that would make this phone perfect for me would be if it were 5.5" and OLED.
The G5 felt like a toy. It may be metal, but the primed and painted feeling is just crap. The power button is REALLY small and felt/clicked like a $5 toy. Even the volume rockers sucked. The screen is too freaking small with the DPI and on-screen buttons. The only thing that phone has going for it is the camera (app mostly) and the good LCD - but I still hate LCD. I wish other manufacturers would get with the program. Having up to a 30 second shutter is INCREDIBLE at night with a tripod. And the app is gorgeous and truly manual control. AOD is stupid with an LCD - it looks terrible at night. I would pay $100 for that app to work on any of my other phones, no questions asked.
The S7 Edge was no surprise. It looks great and feels great. The edge screen gives the feeling that the display is bezel-less at the sides, and sort of floating. It looks cool as hell at a glance. But the curved edges are also annoying due to color shift on white screens (what you mostly look at). The edges turn blue-green. They also look kind of weird when viewing video content. The camera's autofocus is mind-blowing. It's practically instantaneous. The app is good. I'd rate it in-between HTC's and LG's. TouchJizz is still lame as **** though, and lack of root almost kills the desire to buy the phone. Water resistance is pretty dope though, but using a micro-USB port again isn't. AOD is useless without notifications.
Anyone know when the 10 is coming to T-Mobile?! They did an un-boxing weeks ago, so it's obviously happening. I think that'll be my best choice if I want something new until maybe the Note 6 or next Nexus comes out. Thinking it over the 6P is truly still an amazing phone. I've always loved vanilla Android, the camera is great, it's still quick, and the 5.7" OLED w/ stereo speakers is just lovely to have.
